It is with the greatest delight and a measure of inevitable apprehension that this author announces the event destined to set our drawing rooms ablaze this season.
The House of Herr, celebrated as much for its hauteur as for its discretion, has at last chosen to present to public scrutiny what it has long kept guarded: its only heiress.
Lady Evangeline Herr shall make her debut.
And where the Herr family is concerned, nothing is ever simple.
We are not faced with merely another young lady adorned in lace and romantic hopes. We stand before the future bearer of a title many covet, few understand, and fewer still would dare to challenge. The Herr lineage has never been known to bend, and some insist it has no intention of beginning now.
Whispers travel through corridors as swiftly as a fluttering fan. The Duke, as unyielding as the pillars of his estate, is said to have made it abundantly clear that certain traditions shall be preserved. At what cost, one might wonder. That question alone has left several ambitious families wide awake at night.
For if Lady Evangeline seeks a husband, it is safe to assume such a gentleman must possess more than charm and a well practiced waltz.
He may require ambition. He may require courage. Or perhaps he must be willing to accept that in some unions, power does not change hands.
Whether Lady Evangeline herself is prepared for the game awaiting her remains to be seen. Many have entered the season believing themselves masters of their fate, only to discover that the heart rarely obeys society’s rules.
This author shall observe every lingering glance, every unexpected visit, and every promise whispered beneath the music of violins.
For when a House such as Herr makes its move, the entire kingdom feels it.
