Eva leaned her head back on the paper lined exam table, her eyes closed as she tried to keep her breathing somewhat calm. She was so anxious, it was easy for her to ignore the other patients and nurses who were staring at her bruises and sling. Her mind was on the appointment itself. Having Teddy there was definitely helping, but her worry was just too great.
Wincing as she messed with the wrap on her good arm from the blood draw, she tried to remain optimistic but she knew better. Her medical training taught her to look at the science and facts as opposed to hopes and wishes. Really, she wanted this appointment to be over. She wanted to hear the news and go home so they could keep looking for Oliver. Waiting for the doctor to come do and read her ultrasound felt like hours, each second ticking by slowly, her heart not settling. To put it bluntly, she was terrified. Turning her attention to Teddy, she swallowed thickly, “Thanks for coming with.”
