Part 3/3 Evelyn passed away in 2012 after an impressive career that spanned five decades, where she explored not only different materials but also subjects. Part 2/3 At first they were mostly focused on Jerome’s pottery, but soon Evelyn started experimenting with mosaics, then wood-carvings and textiles, eventually taking over the design role while her husband took charge of production. They mixed traditional techniques and modern production methods, and produced her works in small batches with artisans in places like Mexico, Japan and Greece. Evelyn Ackerman was a versatile american artist and designer, praised for her sense of color and compositions. You can see her designs in all sorts of techniques and applications like mosaics, wood-carvings, tapestries, ceramics and metal. Born in Michigan in 1924, it was there that she studied fine arts and eventually met her partner in life and business, Jerome Ackerman. After a visit to the exhibition “For Modern Living” organised by Alexander Girard, the couple was so inspired by the work of Charles and Ray Eames that they decided to start their own company.
