“Okay, so where am I supposed to put these?” Elias asked, motioning to the cases of drinks in his arms. “I didn’t know what everyone liked, so I grabbed nearly one of everything.” He chuckled to himself. “I haven’t missed the birthday boy showing up yet, have I?”

Luna could smell the food from the pool. She stood up looking over before getting out to ask, “Did they say it was time for food yet? I’m hungry and slightly excited.” 

Today is a special day! It’s Connor’s birthday, it’s my birthday. It’s kind of my one year anniversary with my girlfriend. And it’s the one year anniversary of the time I tried and failed to seduce my boyfriend. A lot of great memories go with today...I’m sorry if I’m oversharing. I talk a lot when I’ve had a few drinks.”

“How the fuck do sober people even stay sober on the 4th?” Grace asked. “Seriously, I wanna know. What’s the secret? Today was made for gluttons and bullshit over-patriotism.”

As everyone jumped out at him to yell surprise, Connor let out an over the top scream, pretending to be shocked, before clearing his throat as he announced, “Who am I kidding. I saw it comin’. I mean have you met my brother?  The kid can’t lie for shit. But, the question remains, why the hell are ya’ll dirtin’ my house instead of his? And more importantly, where’s the pie?”

“A surprise pool party sounds great I said. Let’s definitely do it I said...until I realized that I’d have to wear less clothes than I have in a very long time.” She still wasn’t as confident in her post baby body as she should be. But at least she tried to blend in. “You think I could convince someone to reverse the order of this thing, because that cake looks good! Or...I could sneak a slice off the back?”

“I think that I’ve almost had just enough drinks to expertly play Twister.” Nat normally wasn’t a very let loose and have fun type, so when it came to parties. The funnest and most care free things, took a few drinks to loosen her up for her to do. “Who is with me? Twister! Twister!” she chanted.

Damien cleared his throat after they’d surprised the birthday boy. “I’m not good at speeches, but thank y’all for comin’ to celebrate my brother’s birthday with us today. And thanks for not scarin’ him so much that he ended up having a heart attack...he is pretty old. But let’s have us some fun!” he said by way of speech before looking at the person nearest to him. “So I got a question in your opinion, if we play touch football with the birthday boy...do we let him win because it’s his birthday? Or should we destroy him? Because that’s what little brothers do?”

Iz padded around the pool. “Alright.” He grunted, looking around at his empty chair. He stood, wet from his swim moments ago and wearing only a towel and his trunks. “Haha, very funny.” Iz intoned, voice humorless. “Where-” He paused, wiping a hand down his wet face. Iz looked around again. “Where the fuck are my clothes?” Iz muttered aloud, body shifting towards the nearest person. “Hey. Did you see anything on this chair?”
