Carlisle x Esme x Charlie au

In this au instead of Esme's shitty canonical husband during her human life Esme marries a man named Charlie Swan, a man she was happy and in love with. I'll have to play with the timeline a little bit.

Charlie and Esme met when she moved out west to become a teacher despite her parents wishes.

Their romance was slow. Esme wanted to fulfill her dream and Charlie had gotten out of a bad relationship before this. They started as friends slowly getting closer until they decided to marry.

They were happy together and when Charlie was drafted for World War 1 he encouraged her to find a way to keep busy. Esme went back to teaching, the schools allowing married female teachers during that time periord due to shortages.

They kept in touch through letters and one visit Charlie had gotten lucky to make home before being deployed again.

In 1919 when the soliders returned home the solider that met Esme was not her's. Pregnant Esme learned her husband was killed in action.

Esme moved to Wisconsin after that to her cousin's so she could get help with the baby. As a war widow she didn't have trouble finding a teaching job. She was starting to build her life again when another tradegy struck.

Esme gave birth to a baby girl she named Isabella. The baby contracted lung fever and two days later Esme was told the baby died.

Esme didn't want to live any more. Dr Carlisle Cullen, who found Esme in the morgue couldn't let her die.

Slowly Esme opened her heart again. She married again when she married Carlisle and took the others in as her own children.

Decades pass and Esme while still loving her first family loves this new one too.

Esme's heart cracks when they move to Forks and sees the chief of police home schooled daughter is what she always believed her daughter would look like growing up.

Esme's heart shatters when Carlisle introduces her to the Chief of police and she sees her dead solider.

Now let's rewind.

During world War 1 after his short visit with his wife Charlie Swan returned to the front fighting in Europe. It was here that a vampire took advantage of the chaos and drank from several soilders. The chaos is also how Charlie escaped with only a bite. For three days Charlie laid on the battlefield with fallen soldiers in agonizing pain while the venom worked his way through his system. He woke p thirsty, so thirsty.

The battlefield was barren but he needed to drink. Confused and lost, Charlie caught sight of a smell and ran towards it. His teeth sank into flesh, and finally he could drink.

As Charlie became more clear headed he stared terrified over the carcass. He stood over a deer, two holes in it's body with small amounts of drying blood. Immediately Charlie wanted to return home.

Charlie made his way across Europe to get back home. At one point he found himself in Ireland where he met Siobhan and her coven. Siobhan gave Charlie a better understanding of what he was and officially informed him of the vegetarian lifestyle that silly Carlisle Cullen lived by.

Charlie took that information to heart. He already been feeding off animals as that's mainly what he's been coming across during his way back home. Old instincts from his hunting and fishing trips with his dad.

During his way back home Charlie also leanred he had an ability. Those who's powers worked on the mind barley worked on him. A mind reader could only get a glimpse of his emotions, if someone made you feel pain he feel a pinch.

Once back in America Charlie spent two months tracking down his wife. His heart broke when he learned of her suicide and it broke again when he found out the reason was because of a mix up at the hospital.

There were more than one newborns with lung fever at the hospital. Paperwork got mixed up. When the doctors told Esme her baby had died they were talking about a baby boy born the same day as their Isabella. Isabella survived her lung fever.

Charlie looked for his daughter, found her in an orphanage and stole her away. Charlie raised as best as he could for years. He wanted his daughter to live more than either of her parents could. It was during the 30s, on Bella's 18th birthday did they both agree to change her. The great depression at the time, Bella couldn't take being hungry anymore, she rather be thirsty.

Father and daughter roamed around settling in place to place from time to time. Charlie often took night jobs as an officer as that was what he was doing before being drafted, and Bella was "homeschooled" or in college taking mostly night classes depending if she wanted to learn something new or not.

This go around they settle in Forks, Charlie's home town though it wasn't called Forks until the 40s.

Charlie meets Carlisle.

"So you're the vampire I hear so much about," Charlie joked.

Charlie feels like something punched him in the gut when he meets Carlisle's wife and sees the mother of his child staring back at him. His mind instantly racing on how he's going to break this to Bella.

Carlisle is going through a bisexual panic in the background.

Random thought of the day: Stuckony in a magical girl au. Like you got your classic "secret" identity, the love triangle (that obviously gets resolved into them loving each other), the over the top dramatics and outfits/ transformations. Help. <3

I've been trying to get back into writing everyday, but right now I'm on a family vacation and recovering from the worst sunburn I've ever had, so any actual progress is going to be a bit sporadic right now.  (I don't like where the next chapter of Gentlemen Thieves was going, so that's temporarily back-burnered.  You guys deserve better than what I was coming up with.)

In the meantime, I'm working on the also-de-aged!Kaito KaiShin fic, so for anyone interested, here's what could someday be the first chapter--sorry if the pacing seems a bit weird.  I'm still fixing it up.  (I'm playing around with the next chapter as well.  ;D)

After a moment of listening to insistent knocking, Shinichi opened the door to Professor Agasa’s house, yawning so wide his eyes were forced closed.  (Next time Haibara asked him to stay up with her, he was refusing.)  When his eyes refocused, he froze.

“Hey, so, a funny thing happened last night,” the messy-haired child before him said, stepping past him and into the house.  An older man followed him in, looking both concerned and disapproving, like the boy’s rudeness was something that bothered him.

Shinichi frowned at the boy.  He wasn’t one of them, but he obviously knew Shinichi somehow…

“Did you know,” the boy continued, “that if the men after you decide you’re too hard to shoot, they poison you?  I, for one, did not.”

Shinichi glanced over at Haibara, still mostly hiding in the kitchen.  She shook her head—she didn’t know either—and turned back to watching the intruder, eyes sharp and a hand resting just out of sight, probably on a weapon of some kind.

“I don’t think they recognize you, young sir,” the older man said, voice low.  The boy seemed startled.

“What, you can’t recognize your greatest rival?” he asked, grinning cockily.  Shinichi would recognize that shark’s grin anywhere, even if the body was far smaller than it should be.

“So, the great Kaitou Kid was laid low by poison, huh?” Shinichi asked, crossing his arms.  He nodded his okay at Haibara, watched the tension leave her shoulders.

“Like I said, they got tired of missing.”

“Well, what do you want with us?” Shinichi asked.  “When we finish the cure, we’ll let you know, but…”

“I want to help, obviously,” Kid rolled his eyes.  “Not with the antidote—though Jii might be of some assistance there—I want to help track them down and bring them to justice.”

“You’ll need an alias,” Haibara said, her voice soft.  “You probably won’t need a disguise if you’re going to school with us…  Unless there’s someone who would recognize you?”

“I’m from a different area, so as long as we stay away from Ekoda, I’ll be fine.”

“How did you even find us?” Shinichi asked, glancing between the two.  Were they going to need to up their secrecy again?

“Jii is friends with your Professor, right?” he asked, grinning up at the man, Jii.  The man simply nodded.  Shinichi was going to take the time to wonder about how long Kid had known about him and be annoyed with Agasa later; right now, there was too much going on.  (Plus, Agasa was still out picking up supplies for his next invention.)

“Where are you going to be living?” Haibara asked.  “You’ll want to find a place nearby so you can get to school.  Someone is already staying in Kudou’s house; Kudou is with Miss Mouri, and I’m staying here…”

“We’ll find a place near here, for sure.  Luckily Jii knows or this would be much harder,” Kid laughed.  “The disguising and lying shouldn’t be all that bad, actually, just more of the same.”

“Did you say your goodbyes?” Shinichi asked.  He and Kid made eye contact, the mood sobering quickly.  Kid frowned, the first sign that he was taking the situation seriously.

“I had my mom tell the school I was leaving with her.  I called my friends to tell them I was trying my hand at magic overseas and couldn’t bear to say goodbye.  I was called a coward by my crying best friend; one friend cryptically told me to be careful; and the third...” Kid looked thoughtful.  “He just sounded so relieved.  He must have thought I’d really died when I didn’t resurface…”

“We left a note with the inspector,” Jii added.  “We did not want him to believe Kaitou Kid was truly dead, but we told him to keep it a secret so we could track down the culprit.”

“He looked relieved, too,” Kid said, voice soft.

“Well, it’s good that you got that out of the way.  We don’t know how much longer this could take.  It will be easier for them, thinking you’re overseas with your mother,” Shinichi reassured him.  If he’d thought to tell his parents right off, his own transition might have gone smoother…

“You’re right.  It must be harder for you, living with Miss Mouri while she doesn’t know.”

Shinichi remained silent, unwilling to discuss his own situation, watching as Kid began to pace, running his fingers through his hair.  Shinichi was used to the situation, but the reminder still hurt.  He supposed Kid would understand eventually.

Kid continued to pace, concentrating on something for another minute or so.

“Nakamura Akito,” he decided, spinning to face Shinichi and Haibara.  “It’s nice to meet you, Edogawa, Haibara.”

“Move somewhere close to this house.  We can tell the kids that you’re our neighbors, so we can ‘meet’ you before you start school.”  Haibara walked back into the kitchen.  “Everyone sit down; I’m making tea.  Kudou, start explaining what we know, from the beginning.”

Shinichi sat down and, once their new allies were settled, began to tell the story.

  “I meant to ask,” Shinichi said, standing at the door as Jii and “Akito” headed out to begin their house hunt.  “Do you have a name you’d like us to use in private?  Being called Nakamura is going to get emotionally draining after a while, trust me.”

Kid looked thoughtful for a long moment, glancing up at the older man before turning back to Shinichi.

“My name is Kuroba Kaito,” Kuroba bowed briefly.  “I suppose, then, that I can call you Kudou in private?”

“You may.”

“And Miss Haibara?”

“Haibara is fine,” she said, voice cold.  Kuroba’s eyes seemed to flash with recognition of something—a kindred spirit maybe?—but he only nodded.  They seemed to reach an understanding, though Shinichi wasn’t sure what there was to understand.

“We’ll keep you posted on our progress.  I’ve taken the liberty of adding my number to your phones, of course.”

Shinichi felt for his phone on instinct, narrowing his eyes.  Kuroba laughed.

“Just because I’m a child doesn’t mean I don’t still have light fingers.  They’re a bit clumsier than I’m used to, not to mention smaller, but I’ll work around it,” Kuroba winked.  “See you both in school!”

When Shinichi closed the door after them, Haibara drifted over to hover by the window, watching their new allies with interest.  Shinichi followed suit.

After a long silence, during which they watched Kuroba and Jii drive away, Haibara said, “Ayumi might finally get over her crush on you.”

Shinichi groaned.  This was either going to go extremely well or extremely poorly.  Only time would tell.

There was a time when a man could take a joke and could even laugh at it for a few hours, but there was also a point where a man would just simply flip out because he hadn’t slept for like 36 hours and the clock on the wall his annoying little brother brought back from India was getting at his last nerve with its baboon-like shriek four times an hour.

Lucifer was having like the most important day of his life and he couldn’t afford fucking this up! It was troublesome enough that he had spent the previous night sketching like crazy and tossing in bed, but who could blame him? He was finally inking Michael up!

It was even better than his wildest wet-dream come true. Okay, maybe not, but it was really, really close.

Ever since he made his first tattoo he wanted to put one on Michael. He had impossibly perfect skin, the most desirable canvas an artist can crave but no matter how many years Lucifer had spent trying to convince him, Michael stood firm. Even as kids Michael always came up with excuses like “We just bathed, we shouldn’t get dirty again.” Mr. Goody-two-shoes was just no fun even at the age of nine. Lucifer and Gabriel just shrugged and soon they were a shrieking mess and all three of them were covered in colourful markers. As a result Mr. Shurley rolled his eyes and sent them back to scrub it off with a scowl. Michael didn’t talk to them for days.

Nowadays however, Michael sooner or later reached his final argument that he wasn’t supposed to mark up the skin he was created in by God, and usually at this point Lucifer flipped out and they would fight that Lucifer’s neighbours started praying for the Apocalypse to end quickly.

After that Michael would usually go ahead of schedule to visit his parents before he had to go back to his unit. Michael’s leaves were always too short when they fought (and didn’t they always?) and it would usually leave Lucifer with a bitter taste at the back of his tongue. He could talk the stars off the sky, why couldn’t he succeed with Michael of all people?

The baboon shrieked its final cackle marking the passing of 10 o’clock, and Lucifer slammed his hands on the counter. He was going to tear the damn clock off the wall and strangle Gabriel with its tail!

“Someone had a rough night,” Crowley sneered with his irritating British, Scottish, Lucifer could care less at this very moment, accent.

Luckily for the mole in human disguise the bell over the door chimed just in time to stop Lucifer from smiting him on the spot.

Michael was always on time. 

His face lit up from under his skin, a beautiful golden glow whenever he saw Lucifer after a long time. Michael was mean when it came to dispensing full-on smiles, the whole curl of the lip, wrinkles and creases that made his eyes glimmer and maybe even flash some teeth, but he could smile just as nice with arranging the soft shadows on his face.

It sucked to be an artist at times like these.

“Morning,” Michael greeted – pristine and tight, but awake, and Lucifer hated him for that.

The feeling dissipated quickly though, when he caught glance of the cup-to-go with a ribbon wrapped around its middle in Michael’s hand.

“Is that my birthday present?” Lucifer inquired and soon he was all very deep in Michael’s personal space.

Michael had his way of getting him coffee just the way he loved it but could never-ever order for himself. No matter where he was at the moment, which part of this goddamn huge country. There might be a suspicion of Michael operating with shady forces.

“It’s my birthday today,” Michael told him and pushed the warm cup to Lucifer’s chest. “Your present is that I let you ink me up.”

“You know,” Lucifer mused, and his voice was already smoother with the hot beverage of liquified life, “birthday boys usually get something. Not give.”

Michael cocked an unimpressed eyebrow.

“I could always retract if that’s how we are.”

“Please don’t!” Gabriel pushed his way past Lucifer to give a one-armed hug to his adopted big brother. “Lucy’s been going crazy over your tattoo’s design. I would pay you a fortune not to see him in tears over it.”

“Crazy?”

“You have no idea!”

“You are being an inconvenience, Gabriel.”

Gabriel only chuckled at his brother’s irritation and one arm still around Michael’s shoulder (which, otherwise, was a rather funny sight) he stage whispered, “You remember how he got when that teacher he had a crush on gave him a C for his painting.”

The shadows on Michael’s face morphed into amusement, the edge of his lips twitching.

“Oh, that was a nightmare.”

“Multiple it by three and add in the whole next week after in the mix and you’d get what we had to go through from the moment you stepped out of the parlour.”

“Fuck you Gabe. You know when I will make you another tattoo!”

“You poor little thing!”

The younger bitch-slapped Michael in the arm.

“I can’t believe you still take his side in everything!”

“He will hold the needles after all.”

Had Lucifer mentioned that Michael could be a sweet-talker as well when he tried real hard?
