MIT Engineer Builds Bionic Leg That Feels Sensation
As we inch closer to the future promised by the late 20th century (still waiting on you, flying cars), technology we thought to be impossible is now starting to become reality.
Just take a look at Everett Lawson, a research assistant at MIT’s Media Lab. Born with congenital clubbed-foot, his left leg was weaker and prone to breaking easily. After undergoing reconstructive surgery, which…

much ado about everything | everett x toby
Toby was used to waking up at the butt crack of dawn, his coffee maker set for 4:45, his internal alarm clock for 5:03. That’s what years of working on the grind will do to you, Toby his father had once told him one morning after he had first started helping with his father’s business. You’ll get used to it. He had gotten used to it.
As the traces of sunlight crept in through curtains that weren’t his, the events of the previous night seemed to wake him up from his sleepy slumber. He darted awake in alarm, the new addition to the bed waking up as well, cocking his head in concern. Lucky. Toby reached up to wipe the sleep out of his eyes before turning to look down at Brett, blonde hair sprawled about her pillow, face scrunched cutely into the covers as she slept on. He crept out of bed, finding his pants and sliding them on as quietly as he could manage. Just before leaving the bedroom, he turned to Lucky, patting the pooch’s head, scratching softly behind the ears. “Watch her for me, ok?”
Toby hated the idea of bowing out before she even woke up, but the thought of putting off what needed to be done was enough to get him in gear. Especially when daylight already seemed so precious. He grabbed his shirt off the living room floor, buckling his belt and sliding on his shoes before slipping out the door.
The walk to Everett’s was brisk as he quickly made his way. Truthfully, he wouldn’t risk making it easier on himself and just shifting. Not when he wasn’t exactly sure how Everett would want to handle Toby’s little predicament. It was enough that he’d gone and let a human find out about them — even if it was only Brett and she technically did guess. Not to mention, it was still fuckin’ early. Better to keep his wits about him and his head on straight before he went banging on his packmaster’s door.
The only problem was, even when he made it to his door, Everett still had absolutely no idea what to say. If possible, he was angrier than he was before. Hands wringing against his pants, he brought a hand up to pound at the front door.
