top 5... games of 2014?? maybe
Oooooo I played so many great games this year! I’m gonna do games I played in 2014 and not games released in 2014, cause I don’t think I’ve even played 5 games released this year.
Zero Escape: 999 and Virtue’s Last Reward: Putting these together because they’re very related and I played them one after the other this summer. Just absolutely amazing games. Great puzzles, fantastic characters, super interesting plot, terrific storytelling, incredible soundtrack… The Zero Escape games pretty much have everything I look for in games. So much so that I almost ran out of commonly used positive adjectives.
Fire Emblem Awakening: Just so so fun. tbh I’m glad I started FEA after I finished 999, or else I probably never would have gotten around to playing 999 because I’ve been playing FEA ever since. You can seriously just keep playing this game forever. It has so many great characters and is just super fun and interesting game-play wise (I can spend hours on my spreadsheet optimizing characters, even though I still haven’t actually finished the main story ;v;)
Ace Attorney series: I think it was actually still 2013 when I started playing the AA games, but I actually played most of them at the beginning of this year (I didn’t finish DD until this spring). Absolutely great games though, I love them to bits. I love the entire AA series so much.
Persona 3 Portable: I spent probably two weeks at the beginning of the summer doing nothing but play P3P every day. I would get up, play P3P all day, go to bed, repeat. Such and immersive game. I literally started it over again immediately after finishing it for the first time. Even though I’d just spent over 100 hours beating it. I’m specifying Portable because the FeMC route is sooooo so so much better than the original (yes I have played both)
Persona 4 Golden: I actually played this in a similar way to P3; almost every waking hour for about a week. I loved it, but I played P3 right after, and it really overshadowed P4 in terms of story and characters (P4 has better gameplay in most ways, but that’s usually not my main focus)
Honestly the order of the list would probably shuffle around a bit based on what kind of mood I’m in, cause the first four are probably all on my all-time top 10. So yeah I’ve played some really great stuff this year, and I would recommend all of these games to pretty much anyone cause they’re absolutely fantastic!
