Title is taken from Putting the Dog To Sleep by the Antlers, Trigger warnings for angst, fearplay, and digestion (mentioned)
The feeling of the tiny red haired girl slipping past his collar bone felt wrong, her weight was too heavy in his throat, Finn could feel her fighting against the muscles of his esophagus, he wanted to tell her, Everly she was going to be okay, that he wouldn’t hurt her, but there was the fact that she probably wouldn’t believe him. How could she? He’d, he’d eaten--swallowed her, the only indication he gave that he wasn’t doing it with the intention of hurting her was the quick, mumbled sorry he’d given her before sealing her away from the rest of the world in his maw
And now, she was fighting against him, trying so desperately to escape the confines of his gullet. He gasped softly when he felt her slide into his gut, the feeling was, begrudgingly new, her shape dreadfully heavy, he swallowed thickly and tugged at his curls, whining low in his throat, it coming out choked as he felt a sharp kick above his liver, flinching and pressing a hand to his belly, throat knotting has he tried desperately not to cry
“E-Ev, it’s—it’s okay, I’m not gonna—fuck, I’m not gonna hurt you” he murmured softly to the girl in his gut, he hated how his voice cracked as he spoke. It was then that he could feel her tremors against the soft, sensitive flesh of his stomach, could hear her sobs, uneven and shaky
Biting his lip, he pushed his hand to his middle again, pressing “Everly?” he tried, the long, pregnant pause made him sink his teeth further into his lip, he winced when Everly kicked at his hand
“If you aren’t going to hurt me, then let me out, Finn!” she growled out, shoving against the walls that surrounded her “Did you literally not remember anything from Biology!? I could fucking die in here in an instant and no-” Finn exhaled and used the hand he’d had over her small form before and pressed down lightly on Everly, effectively pinning her in place “Ev, I promise that it’s safe, in there, for you...I wouldn’t have risked,y’know, swallowing you if it wasn’t” he finished, swallowing
Everly blinked, taking in the darkness slowly before answering “I-What?” she could hardly believe she was safe, the acid should, emphasis on should, have eaten away at her skin and clothes by now, and it-it didn’t
Hesitantly, she pressed a hand against Finn’s own “How, how’d you-how are you even keeping me alive, in here? I mean--”
Finn snorted at the smaller’s curiosity, his previous unease bleeding away “Our Biology class might’ve lied about a few things” Finn quipped, kneading at Everly as he spoke, he couldn’t help the affectionate smile that tugged at his lips as Ev relaxed against his touch. He wouldn’t admit that a little gasp may have escaped his throat, when Everly started kneading back, he shook his head “You finally convinced I’m not gonna, like, kill you now?”
The red-head rolled her eyes, she didn’t care to engage in semantics, giving the walls around her a playful shove, one that wasn’t as rough as her previous, gastrointestinal havoc wreaking self had intended “Can it, tallass” she grumbled, her words carried no bite as she shifted so that she was laying on her side, nestling into the walls around her and yawning “Yeah, yeah, whatever” Finn retorted, patting his stomach as he felt Everly drift off
He didn’t think that he would ever, ever be able to get over the feeling of Everly being so intimately close to him, the feeling of her being closed off from the world and safe beneath his skin, and, if he was being honest, he didn’t want to get used to it.
