Malaysians and racism? This morning, I accidentally read a post with many racism comments on Facebook. What a way to start a day. This is a topic that I have been thinking for a while. Why are there many Malaysians nowadays racist? Or does it appear that way because of the internet? I remember when I was young, I went to school at SK Subang Jaya. I have Malay, Chinese and Indian friends. No problem. I went to study in the States, and I have friends from different nationalities and culture. No problem. But what I don’t understand is, why is the racism happening now? We often complain when other people being racist to us - as an example when people label Muslims as terrorist, etc. But we overlook when we actually act racist towards other people. Why do you have to judge based on their race and nationality? Everyone can make mistakes - why mistakes have to take their races into account? Why can’t you be respectful of foreigners and think thousands of bad things when they are here to earn an honest living to support their family? Is there a difference between foreigners who come from first world countries and those who don’t? Just how you hate people being racist towards you, other people feel the same way too. So why not we start in ourselves and our family to throw away racism. After all, everything begins at home.
