So in the clip, Korra, Asami, Bolin, and Mako are on a flying bison trying to find Kuvira's army, which they find. There's a comment that the army is a week early. Mako asks how a "super weapon" was able to move so fast when there's no train tracks to get it moving.
And then.
From behind a hill.
We see something come forward.
I thought it was some large carrier machine or something.
I was wrong.
Kuvira made a giant robot.
A giant robot that she pilots with her bending.
A giant robot that she pilots with her bending that has a pair of mountain destroying laser cannons on its arms.
Literally the worst thing I have ever seen out of this series. Worse than Korra's dickbag uncle doing dark energy-bending. Worse than Amon's story being fucking useless and the real concerns of the anti-bending talk being dismissed. Worse even than the bullshit attempts of romance between Korra and Mako.
ATLA was a show about mystical powers channeled through martial arts. It told a story of a world ripped apart by war and how the young people of that world band together with the world's savior, grow up as a family that had lost so much, and turned the tide to win the day. It was great, had good messages, and the characters were ALL likable, villains included.
Korra has been a show about a smug and overly confident avatar who doesn't actually know what she's supposed to do because her asshole guardians didn't let her join the world until she was sixteen--and only because she ran off on her own--fucks up over and over and OVER WITHOUT ANY INDICATION THAT SHE'S LEARNING, her stupid useless romance with an asshole who has never once shown any actual worth or deserving of happiness, the dick's little brother who is written like a fucking buffon, a young woman who gets the shaft repeatedly and isn't allowed to have agency because the dick has to look good, and all the follies they get into.
Their antagonist have been:
A guy who legitimately had a good point about benders being too powerful--until he was revealed to be a bender that was too powerful.
The avatar's uncle, who had some completely backward and stupid notions about balance and who was TOTALLY WILLING TO KILL OR SOUL-MURDER THE AVATAR WHO IS HIS FAMILY MEMBER to do--something.
A pack of anarchists, I guess, I didn't bother watching season three after a few episodes because of all the bullshit chatter about how Aang was a terrible neglectful father and that horseshit.
And a woman who people have been calling a fascist, who I've seen to be a giant smug brash awful asshole because ~~ooh metalbending~~ (and relation to Toph? I don't know.)
And season four has mostly been Korra away from the only character who really seemed to make her happy, make her feel confident through all the shit that's dumped on her for no reason: Asami. They built Asami as Korra's rock based on what I watched, and then--nothing???? Just--GONE? They made Korra actively avoid everyone including Asami for three or four years?
No one has been likable enough for me to keep giving a shit, even though Asami comes close. But everyone else? Mako, Bolin, the extended Bei Fong family, the villains, the incidental characters?
I hate all of them. I hate the bullshit way the world has developed with technology with these super mechs and giant fucking robots. I hate the introduction of all these politics and real dramas (the fucking equalists) with NO payoff on any of it in favor of one dude or another getting to look good over the main character.
KORRA IS THE MAIN CHARACTER, THE PROTAGONIST, AND THE AVATAR. SHE IS A FEMALE POC AVATAR, AND SHE STARTED OUT REALLY INTERESTING, I MEAN IT. BUT SHE KEPT GETTING SHOVED ASIDE FOR MAKO AND HIS STORY, OR HIS STRUGGLES, OR HIS VARIATIONS ON MANPAIN FOR HIS BULLSHIT "BOY THEY'RE BOTH SUCH GREAT GIRLS THAT I COULD SLEEP WITH I BETTER NOT BE UPFRONT ABOUT KISSING BOTH OF THEM WHILE I'M DATING THE OTHER ONE!!!"
I DON'T WANT TO WATCH MAKO. I DON'T WANT TO WATCH BOLIN. I DON'T WANT TO WATCH TENZIN, BUMI, IROH II, OR ANY OF THE MALE VILLAINS.
I WANT TO WATCH KORRA. I WANT TO WATCH KORRA'S SHOW. I WANT TO WATCH A SHOW THAT IS AS REALIZED AS ATLA WAS BEFORE IT, WITH FLESHED OUT CHARACTERS WHO AREN'T DRIVEN BY PETTY DESIRES OR TEENAGER BULLSHIT.
THAT IS WHAT I WANTED FROM THE START, AND THAT IS NOT WHAT I GOT. I GOT A SHOW THAT FEELS LIKE TECHNOLOGY SHOULD BE THE RIGHT MOVE FORWARD IN THE UNIVERSE, AND THAT THE TECHNOLOGY SHOULD BE COMPLETE BULLSHIT THAT GOES TOWARD EVANGELION OR POWER RANGERS. I GOT A SHOW THAT FEELS DEVOTED TO PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT THE MAIN CHARACTER OR THE CHARACTERS THAT SHE WOULD LOGICALLY KEEP AROUND HER.
I HATE THIS SHOW ON A WRITING BASIS. I HATE THIS SHOW ON A CHARACTER BASIS. I DON'T EVEN LIKE THE SHOW ON AN ANIMATION BASIS OR A MUSIC BASIS.
I HATE KORRA MORE THAN I HAVE HATED ANY OTHER SHOW, AND THIS BULLSHIT GIANT ROBOT IS THE ABSOLUTE LAST STRAW. I DON'T EVEN CARE IF KORRA AND ASAMI KISS OR RIDE OFF INTO THE SUNSET ON NAGA FOR THE FINALE.
THIS IS COMPLETE SHIT, AND I AM GOING TO BEG EVERYONE TO NEVER ASK ME TO GIVE IT ANOTHER CHANCE OR READ A FIC OR WRITE MY OWN FIC TO FIX IT ALL. I WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH KORRA'S UNIVERSE FROM HERE ON OUT.
