5, 12, 13, 35?
Hi @evilasiangenius !
Here is a long rambly answer to your lovely asks.
5. What’s the fic you’re most proud of?
There are a couple that I’m proud of for different reasons. Do Androids Dream On The Fury Road because it was my first attempt at action. Our Mister Jobassa for the volume and level of enthusiastic commentary (the comments were a delight for which I am eternally grateful, yes I’m looking at you @ravynfyre). He Ain’t Heavy He’s My Leprechaun because it was my first inter-season canon-is-fucked self-care fix-it fic, which seems to have adequately resonated with more than one other person. And last but not least The Rivals for the sheer bloodyminded stubbornness it took to finish a 20k Fury Road Star Trek reinterpretation of an eighteenth century comedy play.
12. Tell us about a WIP you’re excited about.
It’s finished now but I think if I’d been asked this question this time last year I’d have jumped up and down about Our Mister Jobassa, a Fury Road/Firefly mashup which started as a rehash of Our Mrs Reynolds with Fury Road characters and ended up going off in a tangent and spawning an OC of sorts that I had a lot of fun with. I got pretty invested in that fic, and will quite happily re-read it and the comments as a pick-me-up. My current American Gods WIP I’m more quietly interested in, rather than excited, as it’s more of a ‘getting characters emotionally from A to B’ kind of fic.
13. First fandom you ever wrote for?
Technically, the first fic idea I came up with was a fix-it for The Woodlanders, where the five-person chain of tragedy is broken by Mrs Charmond falling for Grace instead of being envious of her. Only about a thousand words have been written though. Maybe it’ll see the light of day some decade or other and Marty South will get her happy ending!
35. Ramble about any fic-related thing you want!
God I would love to but I’m honestly kind of tired which seems like such a waste of a rambling opportunity. I wish I could create fanvids without doing any of the work. I keep hearing new songs that don’t suit being made into a fic but would be AMAZING as a fanvid. I WILL UPDATE MY FIC THIS WEEKEND. I have five chapters outlined (I never outline chapters, I must be tired) of which the first is nearly finished and the second is more or less there. Okay I’ll leave it at that and go make some lasagne.
Have a very excellent rest-of weekend!
Draw the same picture with your dominant and non-dominant hand.
@evilasiangenius wow guess which hand is my dominant one
Hey~
Heyyyyy1. First impression: I don’t really remember? Probably something along the lines of “YES another person who really love ACE a lot!!!!”2. Truth is: You’re a cool writer with a lot of brilliant ideas!!! You’re also a person who’s nice enough to deal with my weird convo.3. How old do you look: My age???? Maybe a year or two older? again i’m very bad at guessing this kind of stuff4. Have you ever made me laugh: Yes :D5. Have you ever made me mad: Nope, but the future belongs to the mad so we better get started 6. Best feature: Your personality! I love the range of conversation we have! From deep discussions of fictional works and art to dumb talks about the bloody lore of Lazy Town7. Have I ever had a crush on you: Nah8. You’re my: Cool friend who’s good at maths 9. Name in my phone: Don’t have you on my phone 10. Should you post this too? if you want :) I’m not your real mum I can’t tell you what to do

dinosaur replies
it only took me a week to finish this post nbd
regarding indigenous wildlife:
@renee-mariposa:
Re: the lack of modern animals - it just occurred to me that Hammond probably hired a fleet of exterminators to get rid of the “”pests”” (I.e. everything native on the island) because they “might disturb the guests” LOL
you’re right, that sounds like something hammond would do
@evilasiangenius had a similar idea and then ran with it:
eag: have you considered maybe the animal noises in the background are piped in? and that maybe they custom-cleared this island by taking off any endangered species and then wiping out the rest, because they were concerned about disase affecting their expensive-af dinosaur clones? eag: like, would just take one stray frog or lizard with some weird fungus or parasite or pest to sicken their expensive fucking dino clones, makes more sense to literally clear out any vertebrate life on the island (and maybe the invertabrates too?) and replace them with recordings for /ambiance/ eag: i'm tired enough to be wondering if there is some kind of chicken distemper disease that dinosaurs can catch from birds. oh man, imagine the kind of precautions they'd take to keep birds from landing in the park, cuz avian flu eag: i bet if you paid for the 'pet the dinosaurs up close' experience, they'd probably test you for all sorts of bugs like the flu, or make you wear a mask or both eag: i wonder if they purpose-built their own island? or just found one that was like, newly volcanic formed island, and added soil, plants, fake trees, etc eag: oh or did that thing China did, like find some coral atolls and add soil/rocks/etc
sigma: i'm pretty sure that in canon (of the book if not the movies where i don't think it's addressed), isla sorna and isla nublar already existed and were purchased from the costa rican gov't? sigma: on the one hand, there is biosecurity but on the other is consumer demand for a "normal" petting zoo experience and i am 100% certain ingen wouldn't come down on the side of biosecurity
eag: ohhh ok. then 'cleaned up' biologically, is my guess? move off any special/protected endemic species and then sterilize the whole place eag: i wonder if they have some dinos that they have that are like, the equivalent of sea stars and urchins at an aquarium: fairly easily expendable and okay to be in a petting zoo while big dollar dinos like the t-rex are kept in strict biosecurity? eag: like, maybe some small, docile, fast-reproducing dinosaurs that are the equivalent of guinea pigs or hamsters, easy enough to replace if they get sick or die, won't bite anyone eag: plus they could probably be used to test how susceptible the dinosaurs are to human diseases
what if: the “petting zoo” concept becomes a major bugbear for the scientists and planners. they were considering the compsognathi and were very dismayed to discover the pack hunting behavior and venomous saliva lmao; alternate choice of juvenile maiasauri was also problematic as they imprint strongly on “parent” figures and became very distressed when separated from their keepers, who eventually had to dress up as adult maiasaurs so the juveniles could eventually be released into a paddock. issue still unsolved by the movie’s timeframe. alternate alternate choice: juvenile brachiosaurus rides?
i can see it being more-or-less possible to eliminate land-dwelling animals from the island(s), but yeah, birds would be potentially impossible but yes, also the most vital bc of the potential vulnerability of the dinosaurs to bird diseases. frankly, they don’t even really know if the plants might be harmful, as we see with the triceratops and the lilac berries, and they clearly can’t eliminate all the plant life. ecologically the whole thing is a nightmare
general yelling:
@whitmerule: the visual effects are awesome everybdoy can fight me
renee-mariposa: I had a film-buff roommate who didn’t care for this film and that still baffles me to this day. This film is a LEGIT MASTERPIECE, wtf did he not like about it????
the visual effects are especially awesome for 1993 i mean ???? the big cgi shot of the lake is perfectly integrated and still holds up today, and the practical effects are fun and convincing. the choices this film makes and the themes it highlights are smart and well-executed. the main cast all give top-notch performances (especially the kids omg), and it’s full of shots and sequences that are still iconic over 25 years later. i don’t even have a bad word to say about john williams, and y’all know i’m a snob. that roomie maybe just had bad taste
whitmerule: GRANT/MALCOLM/SATTLER YEEEES
YES!!! the internet provides...
renee-mariposa: God id forgotten how much I love this movie!! Thank you for the live-blogging. Also, you’re right about the grant/Muldoon chemistry
you’re very welcome, yelling about jurassic park is my genuine pleasure
... however, the internet has not provided me with grant/muldoon arg i hate it when i have to write things myself (probably it’s bc there’s virtually no window of opportunity between them meeting and the t.rex attack/muldoon getting killed but that just means we’ve got to get creative *slams fist on table*)
BONUS: on sam neill’s accent:
renee-mariposa: Oh my god id never noticed! I’ll hear it every time now lol
lol sorry/not sorry. i don’t think i noticed it until the past year or so; hopefully it won’t haunt you too much!

If you were closer, I'd totally hook you up with some amazing blueberry fritters from a local donut store. I know where all the good donuts are around here. Grocery store donuts just do not cut it.
oh, totally, grocery store donuts lead to nothing but regret (and also heartburn). i was within a few blocks of a sidecar location this weekend and i’m kicking myself for not indulging then. there’s one donut place in my area that i like quite a lot but it’s a detour from my commute and there’s another that’s directly on my route to/from work that i’ve never tried but i just haven’t made time to stop at either one? really what i need to do is drag myself out of the house early and get a dozen morale donuts for work so i’m not tempted by having them at home. or maybe i should just, like.... stop on my way home and get One Donut Just For Me, hashtag treat yo’ self, hashtag self care
but yeah i’m a fool for not hitting sidecar when i had the chance

I've found that despite loving the introvert life, some zoom/skype/etc time with friends really helps me mentally feel a lot better.
it’s good once i’m actually in the midst of it but i get super nervous beforehand! also since i live with my family i’m mostly overtaxed, in terms of human interaction, than the other way around -- i had to ask one of my friends to please not call me so much bc just i don’t have the bandwidth rn. different strokes!

And the other day I had a dream so vivid that I distinctly remember feeling a wall with my hands and bumping something with my toe. I hear this vivid dream business is supposed to be symptomatic of lockdown life.
i don’t often remember my dreams any more -- in middle and esp high school i had really vivid dreams with, yes, phantom sensation even after waking, like you mentioned, but as an adult i mostly don’t, except for my bananas musician anxiety dreams. i guess maybe our sleeping brains are as bored as our waking ones.
