this moment heals something within me i didn't know was broken.
clarith sees this as herself being weak and unable to go through with avenging michaela. in reality it's her seeing the humanity in riliane and granting her the opportunity to move on and be better. mind you, clarith has made a whole-ass contract with a demon here. but the remembering that riliane too is a deeply lonely soul in immense grief for the one person she was truly connected with gives clarith pause. and in the end she allows riliane forgiveness. does she forgive her herself? probably not yet or in that moment. clarith is still angry over the horrors riliane has inflicted. and yet she doesn't let those emotions drive her to an act she may come to regret. the one moment where she had both the will and means to kill riliane, she didn't.
...you can really tell clarith has grown strong as a nun, huh? no matter how weak she may still see herself.
