I love you guys. Best origin story. Hey, remember that time a bird was following us (kinda) and we thought it was Tobias? Also, Marco was awesome. And Cassie was an only child, not an aunt, stupid ghost writers.

LISTEN UP ANON IMMA TELL YOU A STORY

When I was little I used to be a little bit of an introvert (still am but really, who here isn't?) and didn't have a lot of friends and when we went to middle school I was separated from all my friends by department. Our school had a weird system where each grade separated their kids into like four different sections and unless you were taking an extra curricular you weren't going to see people in other sections. I was lucky (nerdy?) enough that I decided to pick up the cello as soon as I entered middle school. Now I love the cello, and I will always be super happy about the time I spent playing it, but as a 10/11 year old whose trying to learn music and an instrument at the same time as thirty other kids, cellos didn't get a terrible amount of attention so we had a lot of free time.

Now at this time Harry Potter didn't exist, and the latest and greatest craze in YA Literature was Animorphs. Literally it was brand new and I had managed to purchase or borrow every copy until then. It was reading these books in class (and I don't remember who first approached who but it's as they say history) that drew me and my future best friends together. Somebody saw the other reading, and the next thing we knew we were three girls who were giggling over the same group of teens.

And it only grew from there. Animorphs was my first source of fanfiction, my first literary crush, my first otp, the reason for my first sleepovers and my first feels (I can't even imagine 11-year old me going through a fandom the way we do today). But we used to have sleepovers where we talked about the books and how much one had a crush on Jake or what a pain Marco was or how badass Rachel was and would Tobias ever EVER get to be human for good again? Cinnamon bunzzzzzzzzaaaaaaaaah became an inside joke I still occassionally reference and I still get a little worked up over how poor the series ended (and I will go hipster over Animorphs, which I swear was picked up by the worst ghost writers in the very last and most crucial books in the series). But we talked and fangirled for hours and hours and hours and of course it progressed to other fandoms and of course we eventually found other friends and starting moving on with life but really isn't that was being a preteen/teen was about?

Our entire friendship was founded on the Animorphs book series and I still consider both of those girls of the most precious people in my life. Literally, Animorphs shaped who I am today.
