I’ve been getting these tumblr ads for a app named Hallow, apparently a Catholic meditation/prayer app. And it’s actively preying on sick people. Tw for “pray the sickness away” bs, and mention of being suicidal.
[id: three ads for Hallow, which have different reviews under a five star rating. 1: “I was on the brink of depression but then I found God through this app. I'm a different person, free from chains of addiction, anger, resentment, sadness… I can't even describe it!"
2: "I thought of ending my life but I found this app. I felt the true presence of God here with me. Prayer is truly my best protection.”
3: "I know the miracle of my now being cancer-free is in part due to the renewed love I developed for prayer.”
Underneath the first review, text reads “Find God's peace in prayer with Hallow, the #1 Catholic app. Download for free and join this Easter with an extended 3-month free trial!”]
Plus there’s another ad for it that says something along the lines of “I used to take 3 pills to help me sleep, but now I just use this app!”
This is actively preying on people who are addicts, clinically depressed, suicidal, and HAVE CANCER.
This bullshit says “you dont need medicine, just pay us to keep your sickness away. If it doesn’t get better, it’s your fault, pray more.” These people are SICK and need a DOCTOR, not some goddamn prayer app.
@staff please stop this dangerous ad before people get hurt.
Sincerely, someone who was hurt by exactly this type of religious abuse.
