A documentary film about the life of an ex-Soviet military veteran and the effects of the transition from Socialism to Capitalism on his life. While many welcomed the changes promised by capitalism, there were many difficulties in adjusting to a new economic system that made some yearn for the comforts they once knew. Valdis was a retired military veteran in his 50′s when he was forced to learn how to take care of himself and his family all over again. He had a very hard life, but he overcame all his difficulties, and always kept his head held high. He spent his last years on the farm in rural Latvia where he was born.
