Ik we assume that katara took after kya and sokka after hakoda considering what the series portrayed, but I've always felt like even though they have traits from them, it's the other way round? Katara gets her stubbornous and temper from hakoda, while sokka gets his even temperament and compassion from kya. and I just. yes it hurts my heart
I had a full answer to this and it got deleted omg okay so . I like this a lot really because Hakoda never really picks up on it? Like, he’s always been close to both of his children but he’s only ever seen himself fully in Sokka (the jokes, fighting, art skills, strategy etc.) but one day Bato points out just how much like him Katara is and Hakoda is like huh wait no? And then it’s laid out for him that they’re both stubborn, fighters, want to help anyone they can, don’t put up with people’s bullshit, and also strategic. It’s almost like the world has been turned on its head until Bato goes and points out that Sokka is just like Kya and Hakoda spends so much time thinking about that one that it hurts him. Sokka has such a big heart. He knows when to help and when to leave well enough alone. Both skilled at their craft beyond compare. They’re both so strong-willed and that’s when Hakoda realizes that holy shit his kids are both him and Kya and sure he knows that but it had never settled in that their personalities were so melded into their children and he’s nothing other than proud about it.
