James rolled out of bed and threw back the curtains covering the window, letting in the weak autumn light. The room filled with groans as Regulus and Peter whined loudly at the intrusion of light.
“You are far too cheery for the amount of alcohol you consumed last night,” Regulus hissed, putting James’s pillow over his head. James laughed; it was apparently too loud for Regulus and Peter's hangovers, and he was banished from the room.
Those who had managed to crawl down to the common room or hadn’t made it out of the common room last night had fared about as well as Regulus and Peter. James quickly vacated the common room, too, not wanting to upset the slightly green-looking Gryffindors.
He ended up outside, heading down to the Quidditch pitch with a stack of toast in his hands, determined to perfect his double barrel roll while everyone slept off the night before.
He got out onto the pitch, setting his stack of toast down and casting a warming charm on it so he’d be able to eat it after his practice.
While he was in the air, he spotted something odd in the stands. A broom was propped up against one of the benches with a strange black lump beside it. He flew over to investigate. It was a cloak that had been enlarged to the size of a duvet. A familiar curly head poked out of the top, and he knew who was under it. He let them be and went to the other side of the pitch and started practising.
Sirius and Remus woke up towards the end of his flying, and he flew over to them, snagging his pile of toast on the way. They sat and munched their way through the toast.
“So, how did you end up out here?” He asked, licking crumbs from his fingers. Remus winced and eyed up Sirius’s broom.
“Remus said there was no way we could shag on a broom, and I proved him wrong,” Sirius said proudly. James furrowed his brow.
“How would that even—“ Remus slammed a hand over his mouth.
“Do not ask him that,” he warned. Sirius mouthed ‘I’ll tell you later,’ over Remus’s shoulder, making James snort with laughter.
