there’s so many things one could say abt tfatws (most amount to “damn they’re really blatant abt the military propaganda in this one aren’t they”) & i don’t think it deserves the effort of putting them into words (yet)
however
wrt bucky, the mcu has written itself into not just a corner but a dead-end alley surrounded by 4m concrete walls and watching it trying to escape without tearing down the surrounding structure is objectively hilarious
#he's meant to be sympathetic#he HAS to be sympathetic for the story to work#but in order to make an assassin for the other side into a redeemable person they gave him a backstory#that is fundamentally at odds with what the military propaganda mandates#so they have to circle back around to 'hmm yes anyway he IS kind of a bad person'EXCEPT THEY CANT#because the backstory they gave him is so horrifying they cant SAY IT OUTRIGHT#& its clear they hoped the audience would just get it post-ws; would get that bucky is untrustworthy#absolute disconnect of authors and audience#its like w the introduction of the flag smashers & the writers obv assuming that we all agree 'no border no nation' is Bad#EXCEPT WE DONT#anyways someone come yell at me abt this because the more i think abt it the more i feel like im going insane#the sambucky show
