The Superact Exe-Arts project has finished off with a celebration of all the work which has been created by participants over the past three months.
On Saturday December 12, Superact Exe-Arts held a festival with an exhibition, film screenings, Christmas craft workshops, and ending with a Lantern Parade.
The project ran at St David’s Community Centre, Exeter and aimed to open up artistic activity to the local community with accessible taster workshops in a variety of different art forms. They also ran projects with the local YMCA, Youth Offending Team and young people’s hostels. It was funded by Exeter City Council, the Arts Council and BBC Children in Need.
Many children and adults alike attended to see their work displayed, enjoy much festive food and drink, and sit down for one last workshop creating fanciful Christmas decorations and cards.
“We ended our celebration with a wonderful Lantern Parade from Exeter Community Centre up to the High Street and through the European Market. We brought smiles to many faces including our own, and photos were snapped by many bystanders,” said Exe-Arts.
There is great enthusiasm for Exe-Arts amongst the participants because it has allowed people of all ages to try out creative activity in a relaxed atmosphere, at a very minimal cost.
It has brought together many members of the community allowing them to meet each other in a friendly gathering. People have discovered their creative selves, the Exeter Community Centre, and each other. Superact hopes to secure additional funding to continue this in 2016.
