I've read a few things about an autistic/ADHD feature described as "waiting mode." If somebody has an important thing to do later, they get stuck in a mental state where they can't do anything else in the meantime, because they're waiting. Which makes a certain amount of sense, in a way.
So. My formerly-employed, suddenly-laid-off spouse had a couple of very promising interviews. And then a proper job offer. Hooray! That was...a couple of weeks ago maybe?
And then he was in hardcore Waiting Mode. And was overwhelmingly jittery and grumpy and utterly impossible to cope with, because not only was he in waiting mode, but he couldn't stand anyone around him doing anything either. I've been alternating between trying to do things (like, y'know, keep the boring bits of our routines running and juggle the dwindling budget), and fighting endlessly and stupidly about no I'm not going to just...not eat dinner for the next two weeks, and neither are any of the rest of the household, can you please stop being so weird and obstructive about this?!? Or else hiding out in corners of the house wasting time on mindless computer games with the sound turned off, because hearing sounds was apparently also intolerable.
In short, I've been completely losing my mind with frustration. But now it's a new month, and job stuff is happening. It's all remote, so he's still around, but is at least occupied. With things that I hope will count as acceptable activities, so that maybe the rest of us can go back to doing things too.
