it was really your fault it turned out like this, but for your own pride, you preferred to think that it wasn't.
but who could blame you, anyway, when your boyfriend was the one who gave you that false impression in the first place? a ray of sunshine, incredibly naive, and a total ditz, unfortunately, in some scenarios. so, when it came to the topic of sex and intimacy, you believed that you would be the one to lead in it.
however, this… wasn't really the picture you imagined in your head.
“mmh…!” you gasped as you pushed your face into the pillows. you were lying flat on your stomach while he was right above you, hands splayed out on the sheets, and his thick cock buried to the hilt inside you.
“it's okay, you're okay. you're doing so well for me,” he cooed, shifting his weight to rest himself on his arms as he pressed a kiss against your shoulder. there was some kind of irony in the way he whispered words of reassurance in your ears, wiping away your tears when they trickled down your cheeks. but the way his hips snapped against yours was mean, wet, sloppy sounds filling the air with every thrust.
his cockhead kissed your cervix repeatedly, every sudden movement dragging along your walls as you felt every inch of him. your lips parted as you moaned loudly, too far gone to consider how shameful you sounded. “k… kalim…! i can’t…!” and it was the truth. you really couldn’t anymore. your nails dug into the sheets, your gaze bleary as you used whatever strength you had left in you to try and pull yourself away. you had lost track of how long this had gone on for, and how many times he managed to pry an orgasm out of you.
you heard a laugh, and then in the next second, you felt a sudden weight press down on you, preventing you from moving any further. kalim’s chest pressed tightly against your back, as he wrapped his arms around you, keeping you close to him. “i already told you… it will be okay. you don’t have to do anything, my love,” he whispered.
on one hand, it was embarrassing how unrestrained the noises you made while he smiled as he always did, and on the other hand, it brought great warmth to your heart that even in debauchery, he still found beauty in you.
but you would focus more on that later, because you were feeling another orgasm build up. “kalim…!” you cried out, shutting your eyes tightly.
he held you in his embrace, arms wrapped right under your chest as your walls fluttered around him, another orgasm washing over you. his hips stuttered, and then with a sharp thrust, thick, hot ropes of cum flooded your pussy. there was so much, inclusive of the amount that was already in you, that it spilled out, adding to the mess that was already present, evidence from your previous orgasms.
kalim nuzzled his face against yours, a smile as radiant as the sun present on his face. “i love you so much,” he mumbled, basking in the warmth shared between you both. and you?
you don't think you'd be able to look at him the same after.

Tale I: The Queen of Hearts and His Dearest
You run through the wacky terrain of Wonderland. Water that streams up, deer made of cards, and smiling cats with no bodies. You have no clue how you got here, nor where that white rabbit is, but… all of that doesn't matter. Especially not when your blue wear has been stained with red paint.
And…
"Who has been painting my roses red?" A dominating voice mutters, but your head remains looking down into the grass. For a moment, you glance up. Your eyes peek through the red paint that has dripped all over your head, and you see the queen and all his tyranny. Not only that, but… He's… "Who has been painting my roses red!?" You bury your face in the grass once more, hoping he won't see you. "It seems someone will lose his head today." The words stir up something in the soldiers next to you.
You look to your side. You're met with what should be 2D cards next to you, but instead, a familiar face. No… faces.
"Not me, your grace! The Ace! The Ace!" A soldier dressed in spades proclaims.
"You?" The queen spits.
"No! The Deuce!" the man dressed in an ace exclaims.
"The deuce you say?"
"Not me! The Trey!" The recognizable clover soldier furrows his brows at the statement.
"Enough!" You use his anger to flee at the same time. You jump from your spot, the bucket falling off your head in the process, "Off with their—!" Unfortunately, before you can even make it to the rose garden… Two arms reach out and take hold of your own, keeping you in place. You stop flailing when the feeling of a cold metal staff pokes your back, the heart ornament taking hold of your collar and dragging you to the floor. The deuce and club look at each other before gazing at you with pity. The queen looms over you as you look up at him, his shadow overcasting the sun. Yep, there's no doubt, "and who might you be?" The familiar red face, glare in his eyes at the rule-breaking… "A person." That's quite rare here, isn't it… You glance once at the flat-faced cards that stand behind him.
This queen is definitely Riddle Rosehearts.
And… if the truth of these legends is the tale you're in, then you might die at the hands of your very own admirers.
"Yes… uhm, I'm…" You jump when the same staff pulls you up by your clothes once more, forcing you to your knees. You cautiously watch as Riddle walks in circles around you. You open your mouth, but like before, he gently taps different parts of your body, making you straighten.
"Look up," He tilts your chin up with the cold metal. "Speak nicely." He gently taps your throat. "And don't twiddle your fingers!" he breaks apart your fidgeting hands, forcing you to keep them at your side. "Turn out your toes." Okay, so he's worse here, it seems… "Curtsy." You notice the way he smiles a bit at that word, using his finger to force you to bow rather than his staff. You can feel the warmth of his fingertip on your skin. "Open your mouth a little wider." Hesitantly, you do so, Riddle's enjoyment evident. It's as if he were the way you first met him once again! "And always say…" He steps closer, your eyes made to look up at him from where you curtsy, "Yes, your majesty." For a moment, you grimace, but one glance at familiar faces who could've had their own necks chopped reminds you you're in no place to disobey.
"Yes, your majesty!" He hums in approval at your greeting, patting your head in pride. When he walks away, you're unsure whether to follow or not. It's only when you see Ace mouthing 'Go! GO!' in the corner of your eye, do you trail behind. "Now… Where did you come from? Where are you going?" Riddle throws one of the failed white roses to the side, placing a properly painted one in your hair as he walks to the un-birthday party table.
"I am… trying to find my way home—"
"Your way?" he stops, your body bumping into his back at the sudden halt. You tense when he turns to face you, a prominent vein in his forehead. "It is my way! Always my way—!" You can tell he's on the verge of a beheading shout, and so in a panic, you place your hands on his shoulders, holding tight. His eyes widen at the contact, glancing down at your touch.
"Yes… Yes! Your Majesty! Always your way… Yes…! your majesty…" You might have overdone it, but you'd rather that than anger him more. As far as you're concerned, there's no rule for that. You hope… "Forgive me…? I was just thinking—" His eyes remain focused on your fingers, before suddenly snapping back at you.
"… Curtsy while you're thinking. It saves time." You let go the moment he attempts to walk out of your hold.
"Yes…! I was only going to ask—"
"I will ask the questions." He snaps.
One glance at the card soldiers, and you recognize the pitying stares on Ace and Deuce, all as Trey sighs at the sight.
… At this rate, how will you ever get home…?
You freeze when a finger is on your chin once again. Your head turns back to Riddle as he makes you look at him. "Do you play… Croquet?" From the few times you've played at Heartslabyul… Unfortunately—
"Yes, your majesty… I do."
"Then let the games begin!" he smiles, his eyes watching you. When you hesitantly return the expression, the smile seems to finally reach his eyes.
It has been… 2 months… since you've arrived in a bizarre, twisted fairytale world. And you still… have no way home! How is it possible for a person to travel to a different world twice?!
"You broke rule 339." Cater looks at you with his head resting on his arm, elbow placed on the table's surface. You snap out of your thoughts, looking up at a familiar friend who's no longer a friend.
"… Right. After a meal, tea must be lemon tea with 2 sugar cubes…" You mutter, but you don't seem very concerned. Especially since that must be your Fourteenth rule broken in the past few weeks.
Weeks…
Why are you still here?!
"Mhm." He hums, tilting his head to the other side. "Yet our queen still hasn't beheaded you." He should be painting the roses currently, but you can see he's left the other diamond soldiers to the task. "I think he likes you." You sputter at the notion, quickly regaining your composure.
"Riddle—I mean the Queen…? No, there's no way he would."
You're Alice. Well, not literally, just her role in the story as far as you can assume. You don't have her appearance or her age, but… You can tell you're the lost wanderer trope. Even more so… You're 100% sure the queen doesn't have feelings for Alice. Considering, well—
You jump when Cater appears right next to you. Wasn't he just across the table…?
"It's not that surprising, is it?" If he had his phone in this world, you're sure he'd pull you in close like he always did and click that button before you were even ready. He twiddles with his fingers instead, as if something's missing for him, but he doesn't know what… He props his head on his hand while staring at you through his lashes. "You're something new. Not heard of in Wonderland. It's adorbs." He stares at you like you've cured the disease called mundane and normal… even though he quite literally lives in the least normal place in fiction.
"A lot of things aren't heard of here…" You fix the diamond accessory on his card soldier uniform. "No waterfall flows upstream while 2D deer of card walk up it."
"You can see those anywhere." he lets you, his eyes blinking like his own camera shutter. Remembering the visitor from another world. "Not every day I see someone so picture-worthy." his voice lacks the usual upbeat. When you quirk an eyebrow at him, he sits back up, as if he didn't let his voice drop, grabbing you harshly by the arm. Not for any particular reason.
"Cater…?"
"What if you became one of the talking frames in the castle?" His grip softens.
"And be stuck here forever?"
"It's better than your head rolling, yeah? You're just too cute to be a decoration!" Why are those your only options…?!
"… No." He deadpans for a split moment before dramatically slouching in his chair, his hand wrapped around your wrist.
"Aww. And I wanted to hang with you… You're so different to be with." In any other case, the better word would be fun, but… You ponder the usage of different. You hold your arm up, allowing Cater to hold it from the angle. "Our Queen isn't too happy about that either. He probably feels the same pain."
Why is he talking in present tense…?
"Cater—"
"Oh! It's time for you to play croquet!" He sits up, dusting off your lap as if there was something there before pulling you to your feet and walking.
"But the Queen isn't here—"
"You're playing with the Treys today!"
… There goes your escape plans… or… planning.
…
"You're a bit off!" Despite Cater telling you it's time to play, it was more accurately 15 minutes before you were meant to. And so, here you are, having Cater coach you on how to swing a flamingo.
"Then show me how to do this…!" You've played so many times at this point, but somehow you still can't play right… You're about to put the Flamingo down before a pair of gloved hands hold onto yours. Cater stands behind you, his arms lifting yours too. And with a swing, the hedgehog goes through. To be fair… it seemed to have a grand time disobeying you before listening to Cater…
"See?" You turn your head, Cater smiling behind you. His hands still hold onto your flamingo. A moment lingers before he finally lets go, sitting back as you play. "You're off again!"
"No I'm not." You deadpan, pulling back the bird beak as Cater smiles, leaning in on his hands.
"Yeah, you're not—"
"No, you are." You both jump at the stern voice. But, well… Riddle wasn't meant to be back yet…! It's too early in his schedule for him to be back. "Diamond, do leave us."
Cater stares for a moment, one for Riddle and two for you, before he bows and walks. He takes one glance back, but nothing more, for he still wants to keep his head on his shoulders.
"Your Majesty…" You curtsy out of reflex, Riddle's heels somehow clicking against the grass. You think it's Wonderland logic. When a second passes, you quickly stand straight before Riddle can fix your posture for you. "You look like you had a beheading afternoon."
"What?" With the way he glares at your words, you almost curl in on yourself before remembering that would probably get you poked again. "Are you saying I have no head?"
"No no no, not at all, Your Majesty. I am saying," … Oh crap, what were you even trying to say there…?! What would Alice say…? "I meant that your head looks quite nice on your shoulder. Such a lovely red that no head could compete even on someone's body!" What does that even mean..?
Despite your horrible wording, a familiar expression adorns his face. The one he always pulled when someone was being foolish, but not quite enough to garner his rage. It brings you a sense of comfort. Like, you're simply sitting at a library table with Riddle as Ace utters something inconceivable.
"Riddle—"
"Since when were you allowed to say the Queen's name?" … that's not good.
"Please forgive me, your majesty—"
"Apologizing for a broken rule you did not commit is a crime." Okay, you're sick of the nonsense this wonderlandian version of Riddle keeps spewing…!"
"Yes, of course it is…" You actually don't follow, but you're not risking your head for this…!
"Well then, it is time for Tea."
"But Trey—"
"I SAID IT IS TIME FOR TEA!" … Even your Riddle never had a temper this horribly easy to enrage…
Tea is spent following every tea time tradition Wonderland has to offer, which is a whole lot of nothing and everything all at once. And somehow, it has ended with you and Riddle about to drink from the same cup… If this, well, wasn't the Tyrant Queen of Wonderland, you're quite sure Riddle would consider the idea scandalous.
"D-Drink from the same bottle…?!"
"Riddle, it's not that deep."
"To you it might not be, but the exchange of saliva could be considered—"
"A kiss."
"Yes. This is quite a big deal for me. Especially my mother…"
"And why is that?"
"You should only kiss your spouse."
"People kiss outside of marriage all the time."
"Well, I will not be one."
"Do I have to marry you for you to hydrate?" He jolts at the idea. You don't think in disgust, but rather in embarrassment.
"Do not talk down to me…! I will simply buy my own drink."
"If you say so." You put the bottle to your lips, and for a moment, Riddle's eyes linger. Before you can catch him, he's already looking away.
"You are not allowed to think about others in the presence of the queen." Riddle sticks the teacup to your lips, the tea going down your throat without warning.
"Ack—! Y-Your Majesty…! You can't just make me drink when I'm not…! Blegh… Ready…" You put your hand up to slightly push the cup away.
"We are not drinking." Then what have you been doing this whole time… "We are kissing."
"… What…?"
"You have been here for—How long?" You assume he's signaling for an answer. When you open your mouth though… "For however long I think you've been." You don't think you'll ever get used to this version of Riddle… "And that is long enough to know the rules."
"Ah, yes, Your Majesty… I know the rules, but do you know the rule?" If this were your Riddle, he would deadpan and tell you you're being foolish.
"You question your Queen?" You quickly grab his hands, putting them in your lap.
"No no no! I question myself!" Pfft, no you don't. "I question if I know the rules by you knowing the rules! Because if you don't know, then I must not know either!" Wonderlandian is easy. Simply talk nonsense and hope your head doesn't roll.
Riddle takes his hands off your lap. His black claw ring slowly traces up, tapping your shoulder once, before swiftly taking hold of your chin.
"Rule 803, a kiss must be shared between the queen and betrothed through a teacup to make the arrangement official." He smiles at the rule.
"…"
You spit out the tea, and Riddle stares in disbelief.
"Did you just break a rule right in front of the Queen?" You stay silent. A single mantra repeats in your head.
Please be in love with me. Please be in love with me. Oh my gosh, please be in love with me. I don't want to die!
"Ahhh… No, of course not… Uhm, I just—" Quiets you down with a wave. Staring back at the tea. Once again… another broken rule overlooked. Your dust down your blue wear, scooting closer to Riddle. "Forgive me, Your Majesty, I didn't mean…"
"It is no matter. You are mine anyway." He says it so normally it freaks you out, and somehow it's the craziest thing he has said to you so far.
"… Huh?"
"In the end, I am the Queen. My rules are my rules, and I can have there be rules or no rules whenever I want." Well, that is sort of a guarantee, but—"And I can have whatever I wish, as it is a rule. Therefore, you are mine, and I am right."
"Ahhh. Of course, my Queen, it only makes sense." Going back is gonna be much harder… "So, I should find you a present since I am wholeheartedly yours!" Slowly, you get up from the chair and quickly curtsy before running away. You only make it 3 steps before a bush blocks your path.
The sound of a gavel hitting the table makes you jump. When did he get a gavel?? Before you even have any time to process it, a crowd of card soldiers surrounds you two, including 4 other faces you know all too well.
"I declare a new rule. My human can no longer leave this castle. Adjourned!"
… You're so done with this place.
…
You're thrown back into the premises by the foot. By the arm. By your clothes. Each soldier is different because every time you try a new exit…
Everywhere you go, you're caught! You thought some of them were supposed to be idiots with what you remember from the story… but you guess they're very dedicated to their Queen.
Ace vehemently stands in place as your hands push against his chest, using all your might to push him. If this were your Ace? You would totally be able to tackle him down. But now? This guy is a trained soldier who won't budge from his spot at all…!
"Ugh…! Move it, porcupine head!" You're about to kick him before he dodges. You take the chance to run past him, but you're spun back around, Ace's arm around your waist. "You're so annoying even here…!"
"What does that mean?!?" He clutches his chest, very clearly hurt by the comment. "Mann, sometimes I don't get you! One moment you're chill and even brushing up on me as you laugh, and now you're tryna kick me in my cards and break the most lethal rule ever!"
"Lethal? How is it lethal?" He looks at you like you just asked him a stupid question.
"His Majesty said if you're even a foot outside of the castle grounds, it's all our heads." He points his finger, circling it around in the around. You grimace at the sentence before realizing something.
"… And you didn't think to tell me that before I tried running away?!"
"I didn't know you were even gonna run in the first place!" An idiot just like your own…!
Your back falls onto the rose garden bush behind you, a hand dragged across your face as you slowly fall.
Ow, ow, ow ow, ow.
That was stupid. But what's more stupid than the thorns in your back is the fact you can't even leave the castle anymore… What if your exit is somewhere in the rest of Wonderland…? You're probably meant to follow the story's plotline, but somehow you ran into the Queen before you could even go to the Hatter's tea party…!
"… I wanna go home," you mutter under your breath. Ace watches the way you sit on the floor, especially how you only continue to put more thorns in your back. He sighs, finally leaving his post to pull you from your spot, plucking each thorn from your side.
Weirdly enough, it only hurts for a moment. Now they smell like cotton candy. Wonderland is weird…
"Why do you wanna leave so bad, huh?" He dusts off his hand when he finishes, sitting down in a way where his leg blocks you from the bush.
"Your Queen is a Tyrant."
"… Okay yeah, but it's not that bad." You deadpan at him. "… There's gotta be other things that aren't that bad here…"
"Like what?" Your eyes focus on the exit. Left wide open because the guard meant to stand there is instead rubbing your back to soothe your pain.
"Like…" He hesitates, watching your side profile with a sort of embarrassment he's never known. "… Man, never mind." You both sigh in unison. He may be a different person, but… so far he's the most familiar you'll get. Slowly, you lay down, resting your head in his lap. "… What are you—"
"Let me rest up before Mr.Queen comes and suffocates me with wedding planning…"
"Ace!" You groan at the yelling, but with the familiar voice… You know who it is that's calling.
"Bro, can you quiet down? It's not time for yelling. That happens during yelling day. You should know this by now." Ace sighs, leaning back as the Spade Soldier walks up to him from behind.
"Of course I know that…!" Deuce taps his black spear in the ground next to Ace. "You're meant to be guarding the exit. We can't let the smiling squirrels have their crying parties here again, or His Majesty is gonna go crazy."
"Why do you care so much?"
"He's our Queen?" He pauses for a moment, sighing. "Besides… You know we can't let [Name] out." Ace stops talking, as if luring Deuce to keep talking. "Not just for the Queen but… us too, you know."
"Mmm, don't know what you're talking about." Does Deuce not realize you're here?
"You know exactly what I'm talking about! The castle feels a bit lighter when they're around and I—we, like talking to them and they're pretty and funny and fun to hang out with—" you pop up. Both of them look at you.
"Hi Deuce." You wave, the Spade soldier's mouth slightly agape.
"Y-you… heard all that?" Should you save him embarrassment or do what you usually do…?
"Yup." His hand finds his mouth, covering it as he stands.
"Bro…" He whispers under his breath, but you can hear it clearly. You stand up, Ace following behind you as you walk towards Deuce. Your eyes glance at the exit once more. You could run…
"Don't worry. I think it's sweet." Deuce presses his lips together, obviously still embarrassed over how obvious he was with his feelings toward you. "I appreciate that you find my company that enjoyable."
"Well… It's you, so…" You can hear Ace snicker behind you, and you're sure Deuce does too. "You got something to say?"
"Yeah. That was funny as hell." You drown out the sounds of their bickering.
"…"
You make a quick run as they're busy with each other, both of them turning in unison to the way you run.
1 foot out.
2 feet out.
3 feet.
...4
...5
...6—
A firm arm quickly grabs your waist, hoisting you above a soldier. There should be something hard to stab you in your stomach from the uniform. This isn't the first time it's happened… however, right now, it seems Deuce took off his coat before putting you there. He's the first to do it.
You couldn't even make it 7 feet out before getting grabbed again. Unless…
"I'm really sorry, Deuce…! Love you!" You quickly shout it out before your next action.
"Wha—?!"
"What?!"
You kick off of him, your body falling on the floor before you swiftly push yourself up and run.
...7
...8
...9
… 10…!
"Wait…! [Name], please come back…!" Deuce is a fast runner. He most definitely would've caught up to you… if he wasn't standing in shock at your sudden "I love you". Ace had already taken off before him, but he's not nearly as fast, and before they know it…
"Bye-byee." A familiar smiling cat takes you away.
"… Bro. We're so dying when His Majesty finds out—" Ace jolts when a presence is felt.
"Find out what?" Silence… Riddle glances around. "… Where is my Rose?"
"Am I here? Or am I there?"
"Chenya, stop it…! You're the Cheshire, so I know you know what's going on!"
"Do I? Or don't I?" You groan, crouching down as you bury your head in your knees. "Maybe I know how it happened. But maybe I know who you are." That doesn't help… "Maybe I know how to get you home." You perk up.
"Yes…! That's what I want—!"
"But don't you think this could be your home?" You droop back down. "… Or maybe, you need to live the full story." Chenya has somehow appeared behind you, his tail grazing you as he circles.
"I already thought of that, but the tea party isn't where it's meant to be…" You finally sit down, the laughing flowers giggling at your misery.
"When a book is being read, you don't read it backwards." But then you wouldn't be living the story…? "Even without every party, a story is still a story until it's finished." The flowers stop laughing.
"The trial." When Alice is framed by the Cheshire and made to stand in court before the Queen… However, since you've apparently broken the most lethal rule, you already have a reason to stand at trial. "Chenya—"
"[Name]."A gentle voice speaks up. You know it's not their usual tone, but they're using it with you. Chenya seems to have disappeared because he knows this needs to happen. When you turn, you see him.
"Trey." He would usually smile when you call his name out, but his face looks pensive. "… We're surrounded, aren't we?" He doesn't say anything. Instead, he sits next to you. You look away, while he looks right at you. He throws his spear aside, presumably in an attempt to ease your tensions.
"Riddle is close." He mutters. You assumed so. "He's not very happy you ran away." You assumed that too. "I know the castle isn't exactly the most freeing place in the kingdom, but… It is safer there than out here."
"The Jabberwocky?"
"And more. We do have trees that turn people upside down for the rest of their lives." He laughs like it's normal. Probably is for him. For you, however, you're left pondering how wondrous this place really is…
"Trey… I just… want to go home…" He frowns, but makes it disappear when he places a hand on your shoulder.
"What's over there for you?" For the first time, someone asks without the underlying intent of making you stay.
"Well, technically it's not home home, but…" You glance at him. "I have you guys there." He tilts his head.
"Us?" His hand remains rested on you, showing a growing comfort in your spiel.
"Different versions but, yeah." He listens intently. "I know you guys well over there. You're good at baking." He pauses. "Are you good here?" You know that somehow.
"I… would say I'm average." His hand finally falls, placed only right next to yours.
"He would say that too." You mutter. "… Only thing that's different is you're a trained soldier and sometimes speak crazy…"
"Do we speak crazy? I thought it was fine." His fingers twitch, his eyes looking down at your hand.
"Yeah, I only realized it when you guys would switch the way you talk with me." Do they do that? He never noticed… "Trey?" He hums. "You don't want me to leave either, do you?" he's quiet, letting the silence speak for him.
"I think that's just normal though." His hand inches closer. "Who wouldn't want you to stay after changing the routine in the castle?" The purple light of the forest does good in showing off your eyes. "The same rules, the same schedule, the same rule breakers who have their heads taken. It only ever changes when Riddle occasionally decides a new rule is right and should be changed." You can hear it. He's changing tones. "Then the sun laughed, and you danced into the rose garden, or did the rose garden dance you in? No no, maybe the paint just spilled you into our castle. But you came. And then you laughed, and we laughed. Then you looked perfect, so we looked at perfect whenever—" He snaps out of it. His hand leaves your side. You think speaking in Wonderland has you reveal deep feelings in poetic nonsense without meaning to. "Sorry… What I was trying to say, though, was you are a well-needed retreat from our duties."
"… I get that." You linger. "But I don't belong here."
"We know." We…? "But you found your way there, didn't you?"
"I mean, I did, but I still have another home…"
"I know, I know… But it is nice to find comfort somewhere unfamiliar." You feel like there's more he wants to say. But he's holding off to improve your impression of him. It doesn't matter though, because someone else can say it for him.
"You can make a new home here."
Riddle appears from the shadows, a gaze of anger on his expression. However, it's overpowered… by the betrayal on his face.
You're on trial. At least… You hope so.
Currently, you're alone with Riddle in his room as he paces back and forth, watching from outside the window as his card soldiers can be spotted moving around everything needed.
"Riddle—"
"Silence…! Silence from you…" He waves his hand. "Do not think I will fall for your misbehavior just because you say my name…!" He frowns, watching you lying down on his bed. Apparently, you should be held in a man-eating flower-holding cell as you wait, but Riddle took you before you could be placed there. "… What did the cat tell you?"
"… Nothing."
"Lying to your queen is against the rules. Do not stack your sentences." … You might not get away with breaking rules this time… Your sentence might not be a beheading, but something much worse…
"… Chenya told me how to get home."
"You know his name?" No way he's jealous right now… "… No matter." He grimaces. "And how is that?"
"To live the rest of the story." You don't tell him what exactly "the rest of the story" is. Riddle is silent. Maybe you should guide him away from the truth… "A tea party." He perks up. "A tea party is what I need to leave…" You slowly sit up on the mattress. "My Queen… please grant me one?" He looks at you before a gavel sounds on the table in front of him.
"New rule. No more tea parties. Adjourned!" No card soldiers were present this time, but… you don't think it matters. If he says it goes, it goes. And… if he were to back out of your running away trial… you need to make sure there is an absolute chance it will happen.
"… You really banned tea parties just so I couldn't leave?" You make your way across the absurdly large bed until you're at its edge, facing Riddle.
"No. I banned tea parties because I wanted to. And my word is always right." He glances your way. "And you will realize that Wonderland is right for you as well."
"Riddle?" He hums. "… Why do you want me to stay so bad?"
"…" He's silent.
"Everyone else says they like me because I disrupt order. Isn't that the exact opposite of what you want?" You watch him walk over to you. "The first time you saw me, the story should've played out the way it was meant to." You don't back away, continuing your words. "Then an hour in and the story is thrown off course…! I mean, when does the Queen want Alice to stay…?!" He stops in front of you. "… Why do you want me?"
"I don't know."
"W-wha… What do you mean you don't know…?" You utter. "You're keeping me in a castle and, apparently, marrying me because… you don't know???"
"You have said it yourself. Wonderland does not make sense. Do I need a reason, other than it's right?" Your breath hitches. "… I realized the moment you swung your flamingo that I had this feeling you're what's right. I do not know why it suddenly happened." He sits down, taking your hand in his. "And then I was only proven right more and more whenever I talked to you." You look out the window as he speaks, watching your trial being set. "I think that is why I was never made to have another by my side." You come to a grim realization. "Wonderland was waiting for you."
This tale was never the original in the first place.
The Villains, are destined to fall in love with you, no matter what.
"Riddle… what happens if I'm found innocent?"
"You're rewarded to be by my side as King." He says it so calmly, as if it's expected.
"… Guilty?"
"Married to me."
It's then that you have a realization. This trial won't go the way it's meant to, is it? Your story doesn't end when the trial is over… it will keep going… Until it ends a different way.
A knock is heard, and four familiar faces greet you.
"The courtroom is ready."
…
"I call to the stand a witness! Ace Trappola!" You stand on the podium, watching as cards, bunnies, hares, and so on look around until they find him. Rather than a genuine judge, Riddle remains with a gavel in hand, Trey asking the questions for him.
"Is it true this human has stolen the Queen's heart and planned to run away?"
"The Queen is the Queen of Hearts? Even if they did, he has some to spare." Does that even make any sense…? "But they did sleep in my lap, so does that count as treason?" What…??? "Man, they hung out with my hedgehog too…! Guilty!" He's a witness! He can't say you're guilty!?
"We accept!" It's obvious that if the other two witnesses are who you think they are… You're definitely getting the sentence. "Next to the stand, Deuce Spade!" the process repeats. However, even you're shocked when Deuce appears by your side. "Is it true this human is bad at croquet?"
"Well—" You cover Deuce's mouth, the soldier easily letting you. His hand even holds on to your arm as if… helping you shut him up.
"Objection! How does that relate?" The hares and bunnies snarl at you for questioning their queen. You can tell ones about to shout before—
"If anyone yells at my King, it is off with your head!" They immediately sit down and cower. "It relates because I say so. Overruled!" You sigh, taking your hands off of Deuce to let him continue.
"Yes, they are horrifically horrible." Of course that's the only statement that isn't complete nonsense… "Not guilty!" Your eyes sparkle.
"We accept the guilty verdict!" You genuinely can't win in this story, can you?
"Next to the stand… Cater Diamond!" Everyone looks, but… He's nowhere. "Cater?" You look around as well, turning in your stand before feeling something in your pocket. You have no idea when they got there… but… You can assume with the sharp smile underneath you who it came from.
"I-I'm here!" Cater quickly runs to his place, wiping sweat off his forehead.
"Being late is against the rules, Cater." Riddle's domineering voice echoes in the court. "It will be off—!"
"I was chasing Chenya, Your Majesty!" The Diamond quickly shouts before his sentence is called out. "It looked as if he had the mushrooms that could grow a person a mile high!"
"That is no good, yes, Rule 42 states anyone over a mile high must exit the courtroom, indeed." He crosses his legs. "You shall keep your head." He waves him off, Cater visibly relaxing, to which you rub his back. "Trey! Continue with the trial." He nods.
"Is it true they are right?" Cater pauses at the question. Pondering for a moment, and pondering…
"In what way?" Cater glances at you for one moment, before turning back.
"I think you know." Trey and Cater exchange a glance, a silent agreement. One that Riddle doesn't need to be a part of, because he knows exactly what they mean. Whispers are heard, several Wonderland residents muttering what's, who's, and where's.
"Mmm…" He turns again. Your eyes finally meet. "For me, for you, for them, for who?" his hand holds the same wrist he held just a few weeks ago. Everyone stares at him, even Riddle leaning forward in his chair. "This cutie is perfect everywhere." You furrow your brows. "Inside and out." Everyone awaits one more sentence. "They are just right."
The sound of a gavel harshly hitting its stand over and over again sounds throughout the court. It catches everyone off guard, so much so that Cater pulls you closer and Deuce steps forward. The sound is only slightly muffled by Ace's hand covering your ears.
"Guilty! Guilty! You are Guilty!" Riddle repeats it over and over again, until suddenly stopping. "Now come home with us—" A scream cuts him off, mice and lobsters scurrying away.
"It's the Cheshire!"The name immediately causes Riddle to scowl.
"Get him… GET HIM!" Every soldier in the room immediately flies after Chenya, his purple form disappearing and reappearing with a smile. In the split second, though, you can see him mouth a word to you.
Eat
You quickly take the mushrooms out of your pockets, hurriedly eating them, and waiting for the effect. The chase of the cat suddenly stops when the Future King grows to be a mile high.
"Rule 42," You parrot, "I need to get out, don't I, Riddle?" You take one step back, every Wonderland civilian moving out of your way. You can see a familiar expression. His face is bright red as a vein clearly pops out of his forehead. He lifts his gavel, and you know in that moment, if you don't get out, he'll recall the rule and a million soldiers will be on you once again. You swing your arm back and break the court walls, making a quick escape.
"Forget Chenya… Get them… GET THEM NOW!" The cat chase is immediately forgotten in favor of taking back their runaway king. Such desperation that their Queen joins them in the chase.
…
You're already back to your normal size. But you continue to run, as the sounds of soldier and their spears clinking against each other are enough to remind you you're being chased. But you can see it.
There's… a fuzzy sight of yellow in the distance. You can smell dust and sun from it though… and you know it's your exit—
You scream when you're tackled to the side by red, white, and black fabric.
"Riddle…! Riddle—Please let me go…!" He covers your mouth, letting thousands of his card soldiers pass you by. Only four of them catch and linger behind, and they're familiar, of course. His eyes stare at you, slightly teary, before letting his hand fall.
"… What's so bad about us?" He mutters.
"… What? There's… There's nothing wrong."
"Why can't you just pretend we are the same people you know?" The other four have closed in, creating an effective guard circle around you two. "Why can't you just stay…?!" You grab hold of his shoulders, forcing him to look at you this time.
"Because you're not…! You're not them…!" For a moment, they all look hurt. It's only Ace who speaks up.
"Yeah, we're not. But you can't even try to just enjoy it here?" You frown at him, letting Riddle pull you into his arms as his head rests there. "You ever think you're miserable because you kept thinking about them?" You pause.
"I'm not miserable because I'm thinking about them."
"… Then what?" Deuce whispers, not looking at you when he asks. Your eyes stare at him, though. Well… not him but rather… The lone smile behind him. Trey catches on immediately.
"What are you looking at?" Trey asks, looking in the same direction. Riddle doesn't speak, but his grip tightens as if he knows you'll make a run for it.
"There…!" Cater throws the spear, but it misses. And the smile appears behind you.
"Aww, group hug~" Chenya's arms wrap around your waist, but before Riddle can even look up, your cold air.
When they look, they can see Chenya carrying you over to that golden light.
"No… no… no..! " His face turns red once more. "It's forbidden… IT'S FORBIDDEN TO LEAVE! BECAUSE I SAY SO!"
They're all running after the two of you. When you look over Chenya's shoulder, you shout at Riddle.
"Then we can get married!" You feel your body thrown into the air. "Next time you see me." You look back at Chenya, a big smile on his face for the last time.
“Say hi to RSA for me~”
… What?
They all reach for you, but you're already gone.
…
Riddle paces back and forth in his room. He never thought he would have a reason to travel outside of Wonderland… but it seems he's found one.
And he'd be a fool to just let you get away with breaking not only his rules…
But his heart.
You fall flat onto the dirt path. Your hands fly everywhere. Your face, your neck, your clothes. Finally... You've made it out!
...
The smile on your face fades when the scenery you're met with isn't Ramshackle, but a savanna. Not only that… your ears feel weird—why are you a lion-beast man right now?!
Your face buries itself into your hands as you kick the floor.
No, no, no ,no ,no…!
"My Queen!" You jolt at the title. A tiny lion beast man bows before you. "Leona is at the Pride! You must come quickly!"

ramshackle's finally turned into a heap of rubble. you saw that one coming a long time ago. what you didn't see is the harem of unsavory magicians trying to keep you confined within their dorms. ( <- prev | intermission | to be continued...? -> )
( not exactly dissociation, but detaching from reality (?), h4rassment [Lilia 😒😒], sexual innuendos [still lilia 🙄], dubcon [yes him], breakdowns, implied mind control, malleus gives bad advice to his brother 👍👍, mentioned violenc3, reader has it bad, lots of crying. )
You’re slowly forgetting the look of your home.
There are times when you lie in your bed at Ramshackle, stare up at the rickety ceiling, and marvel at how vastly different it is from your back home. A room that you had lived in since childhood, full of marks from different parts of your childhood, and decorated to make it your own. Living in this grim, run-down shack for months now, you can barely remember what shade of [Color] your walls were, and the view outside your window was a blur to you now.
Now you move from room to room, changing colors and beds and roommates. Your own bedroom was slowly losing its image in your mind.
You also remembered loathing the creaking of the stairs when your family decided to barge into your room to either order you around or just to bother you in general. Now, every time the walls of Ramshackle creaked, you closed your eyes and imagined that it was your sibling on their way to annoy you again. But the other dorms were more maintained, no creaks or drafts to imagine your family to. You only turn your head to see the outline of the men who love to smother you in this suffocation they call love.
“[Y. Name]?”
Very rarely is there someone so gentle-spoken and princely in this mess of a school, so you knew that Silver Vanrouge was there waiting upon you as you peeled your cheek off the school desk. Your short nap has you yawning into your palm, and Silver’s stoic face quirks into a fond smile as he regards your messy look.
“Nice nap, I take it?” He asks, gently taking you by the hand and guiding you onto your feet. He tucks a strand of hair behind your ear and nods approvingly. “Father— er, Lilia— um.” He sighs when he catches your knowing look. “Sorry, force of habit. Everyone is eagerly awaiting your arrival at Diasomnia. Lord Malleus seems to be quite excited, too. He’s looking forward to dinner with you.”
“Dinner, huh?” Walking alongside Silver’s languid pace, you think back to the Master Chef and the food that General Lilia whipped up in his dream. Silver takes note of your darkening expression and shakes his head.
“Father was insistent on cooking, but Sebek tried to convince him that ordering takeout from Mostro Lounge would be better. Lord Malleus was also quick to jump in and sway him.” The two of you share a chuckle as you imagine how chaotic that scene must have been. “Father was on his way to Mostro Lounge when I departed to find you. Where’s Grim, if I may ask?”
“Infirmary,” you say as lightly as possible. Silver smiles wryly.
Outside Diasomnia’s mirror, Silver slowly comes to a stop, and he turns to face you. You are surprised when Silver drops to his one knee, looking every bit as knightly as he prides himself on being. When he lifts his face— fair, gorgeous, and tinged with sympathy— he presses a hand to his chest as he holds your gaze steadfast.
“On my honor as a knight, I promise that no harm will befall you in Diasomnia,” he pledges to you, taking in that weary look in your eye as he takes your hand in his. “After all, I— we adore you so. We owe it to you to give you a sanctuary when you have nowhere to turn. So, please, rest easy. We are Diasomnia, after all.” He takes your hand and presses its back against his lips, turning to you with a reassuring smile, yet something uncertain flashes in his eyes. “Who else would be the most suited to give you a proper sleep?”
Even at such a small dinner party, Diasomnia spares no expense in making sure you’re cared for. As soon as Silver escorts you through the massive doors, Lilia is quick to pop out of nowhere with his youthful grin. “Well, well, if it isn’t the belle of the ball! I trust my son has been a wonderful escort!” He winks at you before hurriedly pushing you. “Come, come, Malleus has been eager to see you since forever! If we leave him alone for any longer, I’m afraid that even Sebek cannot calm his tantrum!”
“T– Tantrum?” You echo, letting yourself be pushed around by the bat fae. Silver quietly follows behind. “Is Tsuno— uh, Malleus angry?”
Lilia chuckles. “No need to act polite. You know that Malleus is quite fond of your nickname for him. But no, not angry, but he has been sulking about the other dorms having you to themselves.” Stopping at a smaller yet equally impressive door, he steps in front of you and gives you an apologetic smile. “Now, I won’t pretend to be ignorant— we’re all quite aware of the rumors around you.” The expression on your face must be exceedingly bitter, because Lilia reaches up to pinch away the frown and shakes his head. “You know how overprotective our Malleus is, so we have taken extra precautions to keep him away from those nasty whispers.”
“Sebek’s taken too many precautions, I think,” Silver speaks up from beside you. Lilia waves it away.
“They do deserve it, and it’s not like Malleus has heard of Sebek’s actions. Yet.” Lilia puts two steady hands on your shoulders and levels you with a stare. “Us hardworking knights have done our best to protect you and others from Malleus’ wrath, so please don’t let it slip, okay? I am not against Malleus smiting those wicked men, but you…”
You shake your head immediately. Lilia steps back with a satisfied smile and pinches your cheek one last time. “Of course. Our [Y. Name] is ever so kind, after all.”
Silver and Lilia push aside the doors to reveal a small table fit for five with Mostro Lounge takeout placed appetizingly around green-flamed candelabras. Malleus is looking out the window, lightning flashing to illuminate the stormy expression on his face, while Sebek is saying something to placate him. When they hear the doors creak, they quickly turn around.
“[Y. Name],” Malleus greets you warmly, approaching you in long strides. He is handsome as ever, the friendly expression sitting so regal on such an otherworldly face that makes you feel small compared to him. You think back to the days when you didn’t know how much of a deal Malleus was, taking late-night walks with him outside of Ramshackle. You’ve always thought him handsome and imposing, but certainly not someone you would be scared of.
The image of his Overblot form overlaps with his current form as he stops in front of you, but you return his smile as sweetly as you could. “Malleus! Thanks again for the invite; the others were driving me crazy.”
He chuckles, smooth as butter, but you catch the darkening of his eyes for a sliver of a second. “Mm, yes, I’ve heard whispers.” Behind him, Sebek starts telling you to stop with a cutthroat motion. He quickly stands still when Malleus follows your eyes to look behind him. He turns back to look at you, smiling the same as ever. “Would you care to join us for dinner? We’ve prepared quite a feast to welcome you.”
You say your thanks as everyone joins Malleus at the table. “I could’ve cooked, you know~!” Lilia sighs. “Is it not rather rude to serve take-out to a guest as dear as our [Y. Name]?”
“N– Not really,” you nervously laugh. “In fact, I’m already getting shy from all this unnecessary welcome. None of the other houses really did this for me…”
“Of course!” Sebek booms with pride across you, thumping his chest with his hand. “It is to be expected that Diasomnia, the dorm that our Lord Malleus leads, will be a step above the rest!”
Lilia, on the other hand, leans forward on the table and perches his sly face on his hands. “Oh, I’m sure the other dorms must have been hospitable in their own way…” He purrs, eyeing you knowingly. “But fae pride themselves on being hospitable. I think serving takeout is somewhat distasteful, but if our guest has no complaints, then who am I to say so!”
The dinner falls into a comfortable conversation, each one playing a role they’ve clearly been playing for many years. Lilia cheerily inquires about you on the general state of things, with Malleus slyly trying to weasel information from you on what (or who) you’ve been up to these past few weeks. Sebek loudly demands that you answer his young lord’s questions while Silver scolds Sebek for being too imposing.
The scene is… familiar. Sharing takeout around the dinner table, interacting freely with each other— they overlap with people from your world. Your parents, your siblings, your friends… You bow your head and force yourself to take another bite, blinking away the sting welling up in the corner of your eyes.
You don’t quite notice the shared looks around the table, the green candlelights of Diasomnia flickering every so slightly brighter.
SEBEK ZIGVOLT has no duty to you. Nothing is binding him to you, so why does his heart squeeze so painfully when he sees you with that vacant look in your eyes?
You’re standing on one of the dorm’s many balconies, unmindful of the chilly wind blowing throughout the night. Bathed in the serene glow of the moonlight, Sebek would have mistaken you for a nocturnal fae had he not known any better. The indifferent look on your face, as you look upon everything that Diasomnia has to offer, is eerily inhuman.
Sebek swallows down his feelings and knocks on the glass door leading out to the balcony. You turn to him, a little light returning to your eyes, yet your expression still stays somber. “You’re supposed to be in your room,” Sebek says stiffly. “It’s already lights out. Do yourself a favor and get some rest.”
“Hi, Sebek,” you softly greet him, turning back to the dreary view below. You study the twisting vines and branches. “Don’t you get depressed living in a place like this? It’s so… well, depressing.”
He frowns, taking the space beside you. He’s never thought of it. Briar Valley was full of similar twisting vines, and they weren’t so scary when the woodland fae were there to light the way. “I don’t think much of it,” he huffs. “I don’t have the luxury of admiring views when I’m busy serving Lord Malleus.”
You laugh shortly, like you expected that answer. “Of course, of course,” you hum, smiling to yourself as you continue looking out. “My mistake. Our dear Sebek is wholly devoted to making his young lord proud.” There is a silence as you ponder to yourself. “... One question.”
“I will permit it.”
You playfully roll your eyes at such haughtiness but continue anyway, expression taking on a softer note, “Your dream… When you dreamt of celebrating Lilia and Malleus’s internships… Were you happy?”
Sebek’s eyes widened at the unexpected question. “I– Well, yes, I suppose so.” The memories of that dream and the circumstances that came alongside it left a bitter taste on his tongue, but he supposes that he could forgive you since you were caught up in it as well. “The dream was intended to make one happy, and nothing would make me happier than to see Master Lilia and Lord Malleus thriving and healthy.”
“How was it?” You press on. “Did it really feel like the paradise that Malleus intended it to be? Did it feel like you wanted to be there forever?”
Sebek looks at you once more. You’re staring at him, eyes probing him for answers. He bites the inside of his cheek before tearing his gaze away from you. “Of course, I did,” he says hesitantly. “Lord Malleus was happy, Master Lilia won’t leave us permanently, Silver would still have his father, and nothing could make me happier. Before you and Silver barged in, I was as content as I could be.”
“If you didn’t know anything,” you continued to press. “If Silver didn’t tell you that it was a dream, would you have ever woken up?”
Sebek stays silent before he looks at you almost angrily. “What is this about?” He demands. “Why are you so curious about my dream?”
You stare at him, looking a bit shocked at the hint of frustration coming from him, before you press your lips together in a bitter line. “... my dream.”
“What?” Sebek raises his voice, brows knit together in exasperation. “How am I supposed to understand you if you keep slurring your words!”
Jaw clenched, your hands bundle into fists as you stare long and hard into the distance. “My dream.” You say louder. “I couldn’t experience it.”
“What could you possibly gain from such an experience?” He practically spits. “Lord Malleus is indeed great enough to spin such a realistic dream from his magic alone, but the fact that it isn’t real should already deter you. It’s already a humiliation for me that you, Silver, and that beast of yours have seen that side of me.”
Tsk. You find yourself growing irate with Sebek’s frank words, though you know that he’s said nothing wrong. “I know that, I’m not stupid. It’s just—! It’s just not fair, okay! I’ve had to jump from dream to dream, see all of you live your best lives, even for just a moment. You had maybe an hour or even more to live out a reality where you were perfectly happy!”
“What part of fake do you not get?”
“It wasn’t fake for you!” You spin to him, angry tears welling in your eyes. Your expression had contorted into one so ugly, so pathetic, so human that he almost reeled back. “Before Silver and I came along, that was your reality! I wanted that! For one hour at least, I could live out a life where I was actually happy! I could be back in my room, I would be hanging out in my usual cafe, I’d be grinding my dailies on my PC, I’d get to see my family again! I don’t—!” You let out an ugly laugh. “Fuck, I don’t even remember the color of my walls anymore! It’s not even been a year! This school is fucking killing me!”
A moment of silence passes after your outburst, your chest heaving from the screaming, and Sebek watching you crumple onto the floor. Human. You’re so human, like the rest of them. Ugly and jealous and inferior and everything he didn’t want to be.
A beat passes. “... Do you hate it here…?”
You avert your eyes. “I don’t even know anymore,” you plainly say.
It stings, but anyone would have seen this coming, especially Sebek. You were always an outlier in every event, unable to familiarize yourself with Twisted Wonderland’s culture and traditions in such a short amount of time. You don’t fit in. You are an alien, no matter how hard you try. Even if people say they accept you, you wouldn’t accept yourself.
Sebek turns his back to you, unable to properly form his words. “Then– Then how do I…?”
You look at Sebek’s broad, muscled back. In the darkness of the night, you don’t know whether you’re imagining the shaking of his shoulders as he mutters something to himself. “D– Did you say something, Sebek…?” You see him shake his head and rub at his eyes with his sleeves, before turning to you with a scowl.
His eyes are wet, but his glare has real heat behind them. “Of course, you would want to leave,” Sebek plainly says. “You don’t belong here.”
Now, you glare at him for stating something so painfully obvious. Did he really have to rub the facts in your face? “But how could you leave? There’s been no spell in history opening a portal to another dimension. You are the first of your kind. It is a fool’s hope to even think of devising such an unthinkable spell.”
“You don’t know that—!”
“And you don’t know if a spell like that even exists,” he shot back. “Do you think, in all his greatness and power, Lord Malleus would not have done so already? He has a terrible fondness for you that I cannot fathom, but if Lord Malleus couldn’t do it, then who else can?”
You think back to Malleus overblot, those inky hands clawing at you from dreams as he latches onto your body with enough vice to never let you go. “Would he?” You say sardonically. “Come on, Sebek. We’ve been through so many dreams because of that. Would he really?”
Sebek shoots you an infuriatingly smug smile when you finally come to the conclusion that he’s wanted. “Exactly. If Lord Malleus of all people would not permit you to leave Twisted Wonderland, then—”
You stare back at him in stunned silence as it finally dawns on you. Sebek, with the smallest hint of guilt, relishes in it.
“— Who are you to believe that you could actually leave?”
You (SILVER VANROUGE): Father.
You (SILVER VANROUGE): Father. You must do something about Sebek. His violence is getting out of hand.
You (SILVER VANROUGE): I cannot keep covering up for him. Day by day his outbursts are getting more and more aggressive. It is also unseemly for us to be attacking civilians.
You (SILVER VANROUGE): I know he would agree. He was never the type to lay hands on civilians before. Why now would he…?
Father (LILIA VANROUGE): ohoho :3 young love, how I love to see it !
You (SILVER VANROUGE): This is no laughing matter, Father. I’ve tried talking to Sebek about it but won’t listen to a word I say. Just this morning we got into a fight over how I don’t care enough for [Y. Name].
You (SILVER VANROUGE): I was so upset at the accusation that we almost exchanged blows. But still… am I in the wrong?
Father (LILIA VANROUGE): Of course not! u n sebek care in ur own way!! since ure so easygoing, ure able to be by the prefect’s side whenever to protect them from any harm
Father (LILIA VANROUGE): but sebek can’t be honest with himself, the poor thing (っ´ω`)ノ(╥ω╥) u and i know that all he wants is to protect those dear to him,,, so let’s just look the other way, ok ? ♡
Father (LILIA VANROUGE): otherwise, i fear that even the cute prefect won’t be able to handle sebek’s overeagerness (・ω<)☆
“Oh me, oh my!” LILIA VANROUGE sits on the edge of your bed, kicking his legs back and forth as he greets you with youthful cheer. “That’s an awfully glum expression you have there, dear! Did Sebek say something to upset you again? I’m sorry, that boy has such a mouth on him. I fear that he gets it from his grandfather.”
Having just entered the room, your throat feels dry as you watch Lilia pat his side. “Lilia,” you croak out. “I thought…? Is this your room?”
Lilia covers his mouth with both hands as if you’ve suggested something very scandalous. “Oh my, I could never! You sly thing! You look so innocent, but here you are insinuating!” He wags a finger at you. “Bad, bad! Of course, we arranged for you to have your own room. It wouldn’t be very noble of us Diasomnia folks if we had a guest share, now would it?”
Turning to the side, Lilia then mutters to himself, “And Sebek and Silver wouldn’t let me.”
“What was that?”
“Oh, nothing!” Lilia leaps up and drags you to the bed with him. “Now, come! It wouldn’t do for you stand there all night long with such a grim look on your face! What’s got you in a twist?”
“N– Nothing…” You say, twiddling with your thumbs as you look despondently down on your lap. You ignore Lilia’s constant moving in the background. “Just came to a realization, that’s all.”
Lilia hums knowingly, having produced a brush from one of the dressers and starting to run its bristle across your strands. “Oh, don’t mind me. I just thought you might do with a little grooming, that’s all. Do carry on. Realization about what?”
“... My current predicament?” You sigh hopelessly. “Lilia… Is there really no hope?”
“For you to return home?” He replies in an upbeat tone, as if the conversation wasn’t heavy at all. “At the beginning, I would have said that there was a chance. Even if our headmage is a lout, the fact that you were summoned here means that there is a way of opening the fabric between worlds— just that it hasn’t been explored yet.” Then he pinches your cheek, grinning at you from the side. “But then you had to go charm Malleus! How could you ever leave after that!”
Sebek said the same thing. Malleus this… Malleus that… If you weren’t ignorant on the night that you met Malleus, would he have ever held any affection for you? Or if he would, would it be to the degree of possessiveness that everyone thinks he has? The fists clenched in your lap relax. What was the point of ruminating over the past?
“You know, Malleus was such a selfish boy growing up,” Lilia sighs, using his fingers to unknot a particularly stubborn one in your hair. “So possessive over me as well! Why, when Silver came along, he could hardly comprehend that he had to share me! I didn’t know whether to be flattered or troubled. Everyone in that family, really... what a bunch of troublemakers!”
You smile to yourself. “I saw.”
You feel Lilia nod behind you. “Oh, you did, alright. My embarrassing past… I’m happy that it was only you, Silver, Sebek, and dear Grim who saw it! I wouldn’t know what to do if my other schoolmates saw such a grumpy side of me… It’s very uncool!”
“I think a lot of people would disagree otherwise,” you say. You think back to when Lilia would glare down at the four of you coldly, every bit of the terrific general as his followers praised him to be. “We were certainly scared… and awestruck.”
“Now were you?” You hear a bit of pleased satisfaction in Lilia’s voice as he finishes brushing your hair. “There you go, smooth as a baby’s bum.” From above, Lilia looked down at you with half-lidded eyes and a smug smile. “Did I hear you correctly? Did our pretty prefect fall in love with General Lilia at first sight?”
“Now you know I said no such thing— w-woah!” You find yourself pinned to the bed, your head in between Lilia’s thighs as he continues to stare at you. “Lilia! What the hell!”
“Now that’s a look,” he hums. His lithe fingers trace your expression— to the crease between your brows to the dip in your cupid’s bow— and cocks his head to the side. “From depressed to angry, you sure are a fickle one. When I first laid eyes on you, you were as meek as a mouse, but I would never have thought that you had such fire in you! I’m sure you were well-adored in your world as well.” At the mention of your world, your eyes dim a little, and Lilia pats your head lovingly as you become lost in thought. “And yet, that fire cannot be stoked in this world. After all, there’s so many bad men who are willing to douse that water out just to have your cinders for themselves… One cannot blame you for losing that spark.”
You continue to be silent, his vague analogies lost on your drifting mind. His rhythmic strokes lull you to a false sense of comfort, the back of your brain nagging at you that something is wrong. “But it’s not so bad, is it? When your future begins to look bleak, it’s okay to depend on us. We all love you so much, surely that means something to you?”
Love… You turn the word around in your brain like a stone to be examined. Does love feel so suffocating and so hopeless? Is love supposed to make you feel fear? Glancing up at Lilia’s red eyes, looking down at you all, fatherly and doting, you wonder if love is supposed to look so sinister and scheming. He tuts at you.
“Now, now, you’re in no condition to be thinking so hard.” He massages the creases between your brows and cocks his head to the side. Blocking out the ceiling light, it haloes around him and casts a dark shadow on his face. You are unable to decipher the strange expression he has on. “On the chance that you can’t come home, you’re not lacking for anything here. So many possibilities! Royal consort of Sunset Savannah’s second prince, married to the heir of the al Asim wealth, the partner of A-list star Schoenheit… or even live out a cozy life baking treats with your lover, picking apples with dear Epel in the countryside, managing the ever-so-successful Mostro Lounge with Ashengrotto… The possibilities are endless!”
“As for what I’d do with you…” He taps a finger on his porcelain cheek, making a display of thinking. “Sevens, I’m already old, so I’m afraid I can’t compete with the younger ones’ vigor. Still, you’ve enamored me for a long time now, and this old man can’t help but spend the rest of his days with you and the boys. What do you think?” He smiles at you cheerfully, pointy fangs poking out from his upper lip. “We make a pretty cute pair, don’t you think?”
You hum thoughtlessly. “Whatever you say…”
He pouts at you. “Have the other fiends harassed you so much that you don’t react to this anymore? I remember when you’d squeak at the slightest touch. If a face as cute as mine can’t move your heart anymore, then what am I to do?” He sighs.
“You could let me sleep?” You suggest hopefully. He snickers, and you drop any hope of actually getting in an early rest.
“But I haven’t had my fill of playing with you yet! Silver and Sebek may think that we’ve taken you under our roof under the goodness of our hearts, but I’ve always been a ruffian. Less knightly and more soldier, as you well know.” He lifts himself from where he sits, the mattress pushing upwards as he stands. It’s a rather awkward position as you avert your eyes to avoid seeing any more up his shorts, and you hear him laugh at your politeness. Those slender legs straddle themselves on your chest, and with a squeak, you look back at him to see a rather self-satisfied expression on his face. “Well! There you go! Just a little bit of skinship to have you squeaking like a mouse. Not so cold as I thought.”
“Th– This isn’t a little bit!” You protest, attempting to push him away before your fingers curl in on themselves just inches away from his bare legs. “You’re literally on top of me!”
“Just some innocent roughhousing!” Fully playing the act of an innocent boy, he purposefully squirms to feel the friction between the two of you. He laughs in delight when you cover your mouth to stop any inappropriate noises. “What’s the fuss? Is our innocent prefect actually thinking naughty thoughts right now?”
“You know what you’re doing!” You whine. He chuckles again, toying with the fray of your clothes in silence as you try to settle into the new position. Lilia finds it rather endearing that you haven’t tried to push him away, whether it was out of politeness or simply because you’ve learned your lesson from past houses. The perfect and cutest doormat. He sees you toss your head to the side and squeeze your eyes shut as his fingers tease and graze along the curves of your hips, watching closely every minuscule change in expression as he gently grabs your waist and presses his thumbs into your abdomen.
“If anyone walked in, this would be enough to fuel their fantasies for months,” he muses to himself, enjoying the way your abdomen tenses under his touch. “Two cute things playing with each other, me straddling you in between my legs, your thighs shivering as I touch you all over… What a sight to behold, I’m sure. Being like this together makes me rather happy that we met at my current age. I wouldn’t know what my younger self would do to such an adorable, pathetic thing like you.”
You whimper as his fingers go higher and higher, circling your chest but never fully committing. Your shirt is well above your neckline, exposing your torso to the cold air. “That brute may have ravaged you on the spot in front of all his army, maiming your neck just so every fae in the vicinity will know that you’re the general’s. He may not control himself when another man tries to touch you. I’ve always been messy… Thorn Fairy knows how many times Baur has tried to lecture me on this front.”
“That is why~” He leans down, your bare chest against his clothed one, and he grinds down for good measure. “You’re so lucky to meet cute ol’ me. They say patience comes with age, and I’ve 700 years of it.” He presses a kiss on your forehead, sickly innocent in contrast to his perverted fondling. When he lifts his head, he is grinning down at you like he knows exactly what’s going to happen next.
“So even if you try to resist, I still have plenty of years left to make you see things my way.”
This… might be the longest you’ve slept in any dorm yet. You’re rather surprised, yes, but you’re not going to complain. Although the darkness of Diasomnia may have fucked up your internal clock for a little bit, you find yourself waking up refreshed in the mornings. Really, this is the hospitality that you’ve been needing for a while now.
And yet… why does…?
You shake the minuscule worries gnawing at the back of your mind and start getting ready for bed. You and Grim fucked up another potion-making test today and have to wake up early in the morning to retrieve the ingredients for your retake. Well, it was more so that you fucked it up for both of you. Your mind has been foggy these days that Ace and Deuce have to literally shake you by the shoulders to snap you out of it.
It’s a pleasant daze… something that you wouldn’t mind falling deeper into. But… You shake your head and slap your cheeks in front of the mirror. You gotta take this retake seriously, or Professor Crewel will seriously chew your ass out. Now, where were those notes…
As you rummage through your bag for your papers, you hear a steady rapping on your door. “Coming!” You call out to them, quickly rushing to the door while you make yourself appropriate. You find MALLEUS DRACONIA staring down as soon as you swing open the door.
“Care for a walk?” He asks with the expression of trying not to seem overeager. You hesitate, thinking back on your upcoming test before shaking your head and looping your arm through his.
“I have to retake a test tomorrow,” you tell him as you step outside. “I messed up today’s test.”
Malleus hums. “It’s highly understandable that you don’t excel in Alchemy. You’re no mage, and you have an unruly direbeast to perform magic on your behalf. Does Night Raven College not consider your predicament?”
“Mmm, not really.” You idly kick a pebble. “I mean, Grim and I make up two halves of one student, right? Grim performs the magic, and I have… opposable thumbs.” You shrug and look up at him. “I’m the one who messed up. I accidentally dropped a whole lot more mugwort than the recipe asked for. It didn’t need magic or anything; I was just being stupid. I haven’t been thinking straight these days…”
“Hmm…” Malleus hums again, looking to the side thoughtfully. “There has been a lot of activity going on with you recently…”
“Um, activity?” You cock your head to the side. “I– I don’t think so? I’ve been doing the same as I’ve always have, I think?”
He smiles at you, looking like he knows something that you don’t. “Oh, that was just some off-comment of mine, pardon me. After this walk, perhaps I could educate you on whatever potion it is that you’re struggling with.”
You perk up. “You would?! I mean— ahem.” You sheepishly look to the side. “Sebek would have my head for making you do that. It’s okay, really, I can manage.”
The century-old dragon fae pouts at you, lifting your chin by the finger to make you look at him. “Do you prioritize my retainer’s word over my own?” He grumbles, looking oddly adorable as his mature face creases into a childish sulk. “It is not every day that I offer to tutor someone. You ought to be grateful that I offered my services.”
You can’t help but crack a wry smile, becoming increasingly aware of the faint electricity crackling in the atmosphere. “Well, if the Prince of the Valley of Thorns insists, then who am I to refuse, right?” Malleus pulls away, looking smugly satisfied with your words and with himself.
“Exactly,” he croons. There is a mischievous expression on his face as he looks down on you, lips pursed into a rogueish smile as he draws his face closer to you. “Well, then, shall we start the session?”
There is the cool sensation of his lips pressed against your forehead, before you feel the tender trunk of vines wrapping themselves around your ankle, twisting further up and up to your thigh till they create a cradle around your torso. Malleus’ pale face blurs in and out of focus, looking at you just like he once did when he was covered in ink and going insane.
“See you in a few, my dear,” is all you hear, faint and soft like a lullaby, until the black thorns block your vision and you finally go to sleep.
You open your eyes to a familiar [F. Color] ceiling, popcorned and patchy with stickers you stuck on throughout different phases of your childhood. There is a loud, obnoxious banging on the door, along with an even more obnoxious voice telling you to wake up. A more muted one, so faint that it’s drowned out by the banging and shouting, says something that you can’t make out.
You groan and roll over, hugging the pillow to your chest. “Shut uppp, Sebek!” The banging stops for a loud gasp before it resumes with an even louder force. Man, this guy.
Knowing that nothing will stop Sebek from knocking your whole door down, you decide to spare yourself the misery of broken hinges and swing the door wide open. Still in your pajamas and sporting a bedhead, you scowl at the already in-uniform Sebek. “What?!”
He scowls back at you. “What do you mean by ‘what’?! Look at you, underdressed and disheveled at six in the morning. School starts at eight, and here you are wasting precious daylight! Get moving!”
You open your mouth to argue back, before Silver steps in between the two of you. “Okay, that’s enough. [Y. Name]’s already awake, and that’s all that matters.” Silver looks to you and smiles. “You can freshen up after eating breakfast. You pulled an all-nighter again, didn’t you?”
“Malleus had me memorizing formulas the entire night!” You complained, yawning into your hand as you began to walk downstairs. “I’m pooped.”
“Malleus taught you?!” You wince and plug your ears with your fingers as Sebek yells into your ear. The two of you stop just short of the staircase, glaring into each other’s eyes again. “You had Malleus teaching you, and you have the nerve to complain!”
You stick your tongue out at him. “Maybe Malleus could teach you, too, if you lived here—” You fake a gasp, hand covering your mouth like you just realized something. “Oh, but you don’t live here, do you? Blehhh.”
“Why you—!”
As you and Sebek begin duking it out in this cramped hallway, you feel something boring into the side of your skull. When Sebek claims his victory by (lightly) smacking you upside the head and begins to head down himself, you shoot a quizzical look towards Silver, who’s been staring at you with an odd look in his eye. “Silver?” You call out. “You… er, okay? What’s up?”
Silver shakes his head before returning to his stoic yet soft expression. “Nothing. I was just… wondering. Let’s head down and eat breakfast before it gets cold.”
“Ignore him,” Sebek scoffs from the foot of the staircase. He has one hand outstretched to you, blush faintly covering his cheeks as he averts his eyes from you. “He’s always an airhead.” Sending a teasing grin Sebek’s way that he pointedly ignores, you gladly take his hand and let him escort you to the kitchen.
“Well, well, looks like Sleeping Beauty has finally joined us!” Lilia teases as soon as the three of you enter the kitchen. Donning a frilly apron, he sets the table with Malleus taking the head of the table as always. You find your usual positions on the table, grimacing at the odd-looking concoctions. “I could hear the racket you were making from all the way here!” You and Sebek grumble out varying volumes of apologies.
“Are you prepared for your test today, [Y. Name]?” Malleus leans on the table with his arms propped up, watching you with glimmering green eyes. “I take it that you’ve familiarized yourself with the potion’s recipe?”
“P– Potion…?” You furrow your brows. You were taking a… chemistry test today, weren’t you? But… but of course! Potions and chemistry. That much was obvious. Your confusion melts away into sureness, and you nod cheerfully. “Yep. Got the recipe down pat. I think I’ll ace Crewel’s test today, no sweat!”
He reclines with a pleased smile. “Under my tutelage, there is no doubt you will ‘ace’ this test.” Sebek, who’s been piling heaps of rice on his plate, eagerly leans forward.
“If— If it’s no bother to you, Malleus, could I join you for your next session?” He asks hopefully. “I– I’ve been struggling with academics as well…!”
Malleus chuckles, looking beyond amused at Sebek’s attempts. “There’s no need to downplay yourself, Sebek. I know your academics have been far more than satisfactory. You have your own due diligence to thank for that.” Sebek shoots you a haughty look across the table, to which you respond by kicking him by the shin under the table. He glares at you but does not attempt to respond.
Breakfast goes by with Malleus and Lilia conversing about everyday topics while you and Sebek try to stomach the food. Lilia eats some of his own cooking, but Silver and Malleus don’t touch anything. Malleus never had a large appetite, but you nudge Silver with your elbow. “Aren’t you gonna eat?” You gesture at this empty plate. “You can’t go to school on an empty stomach, you know! You’re in a sports club!’’
With an odd look of helplessness, Silver stares at his plate for a second. “I doubt this could fill me up,” he mutters under his breath, before he looks at you. “Pardon my asking, but does this have any taste to you, [Y. Name]?”
Something in the air tenses, Malleus narrowing his eyes at Silver’s direction. “Silver,” he says in a tone so dangerous that it has you and Sebek focusing on your own plates. “Leave it be.”
Silver purses his lips, like he wants to say something, before defeatedly looking away. “Yes, my— I mean, yes, Malleus,” is the only thing he mutters before he heaps himself a serving of rice just to poke at it. The silence is so awkward that even the ever sociable Lilia looks like he’s at a loss as he tries to figure out this mysterious interaction between the men.
Malleus’s green eyes don’t seem to quite leave Silver before they soften and settle on you. “Let’s pick up where we left off last night on the way to school. I shall be your escort today.” He gestures to Sebek. “Sebek, kindly see to it that Silver goes to school on time. [Y. Name] and I shall make our leave first.”
Although Sebek looks disheartened at the command, he follows through with it and is still nagging Silver when you finally finish freshening up and head out the door with Malleus. Lilia waves the two of you cheerily off, and you both begin the familiar route to school in comfortable silence. Malleus seems to take in his surroundings with curiosity, whatever interest he may find in the same old suburban buildings and sky-high towers in the distance.
“It never ceases to amuse me,” he ruminates. “How a world can be so… ordinary. No magic to be found. It is charmingly mundane, indeed.”
“Hm?” Malleus has always had a habit of rambling about mysterious stuff that’s almost nonsensical to you, so you always brush his meandering off as some sort of personality quirk. “Well, it does grow boring when you’ve been living here for almost all your life,” you absentmindedly agree as you skip over a crack. Or break your mama’s crack, you hum as you continue skipping. You turn around to Malleus, who looks at you with an unreadable expression. “Where do you wanna live instead, Mal?”
“If I said a world full of magic and wonder, where you’d never want for anything, would you follow me there?”
“Of course, I will!” You nod. “I mean, we’re family, aren’t we? We might not be blood, but we’re a package deal! I’m sure Lilia would be too worried about leaving you somewhere on your own, and Silver will follow… then Sebek too… oh, but Sebek’s family…” Listing them all off, you raise five fingers at him. “Lilia, Silver, and me, then Sebek and his family! We’ll all follow you!”
Malleus stares at your outstretched palm, held up to him proudly as you look at him expectantly. Then he begins to chuckle into his palm, and eventually bellowing into full-blown laughter. Even you’re taken aback by this sudden burst of laughter, and you circle him to inspect what could be wrong with him. “Hey, what’s with you? What’s so funny?” You pout at him. “I wasn’t joking, you know!”
His merriment dying down, he continues looking at you with the same fondness as you both resume walking. “Of course, of course. How could a sweet thing like you possibly lie to someone like me?” Rather big ego he has there, but you choose to ignore it. “I guess that’s another wonder of this world. I’ve yet to see you so happy. It’s rather thought-provoking what a change of environment can do to one’s personality.”
“You always say the most confusing things!” You naively remark. You look back at him after skipping another crack. “I’m happy every day! I’ve got everyone with me. Later, my friends and I are gonna go to this ritzy mini-golfing thing.” You make a lousy attempt at swinging your imaginary golf club. “Putt! Or something.”
You stop your playing around when you finally reach the pedestrian crossing, and Malleus watches as your already carefree expression stretches into a happy smile as you wave at your friends from the other side. They’re unfamiliar to Malleus, clearly memories of people from your world— or what was left of those memories. They mirror the same carefree smiles and waves, but their features are darkened by the shadows of their hair. You are clearly forgetting.
He looks around. The scenery doesn’t seem to be coherent either. Now in the thick of the city, you are surrounded by skyscrapers and bustling shops, yet a closer inspection reveals things that should only exist in Twisted Wonderland. Why else would a magickless world need a store hawking magic pens and brooms? He looks down on his uniform. There are symbols from Night Raven College littered throughout the original design of the uniform of the school you used to come from, a clear mismatch with your relatively unblemished one. He hums.
“[Y. Name],” he calls. He preens when you quickly turn around, foregoing your friends to give him your entire attention. The way you look at him, all starry-eyed and untroubled, is a sight that he could never get used to. Always diminishing yourself for the sake of not getting picked on, jumpy at every show of magic— he would never have guessed that the otherworlder he had met on that fateful night outside Ramshackle would be this lighthearted and blithesome. “[Y. Name],” he calls again.
“Malleus, Malleus,” you playfully echo back to him. He represses an ungraceful snort.
“You always seem to favor this dream,” he muses, walking towards you and gingerly taking a stray strand in between his gloved fingers. “Partaking in breakfast around the table, squabbling with your family, taking leisurely strolls to school… Later, you will doze off in the middle of a lecture, making sure to hide your antics behind a book. Then you will race with your friends to buy whatever special the cafeteria has today. There will be your clubs, then you will make merry with your friends in town, then go back home satisfied and not having finished your homework. This unremarkable routine is what you always come back to.”
He cocks his head to you, taking in your confused expression. “Have you always been this easy to satisfy? If I’m not mistaken, this is what you already do, isn’t it?”
You furrow your brows. “What I already…?”
Malleus throws his head back and laughs. “So many hints, yet you refuse to wake up. I don’t mind. Silver can’t pin the blame on me if you are unwilling to release yourself from these delusions.”
The scenery shifts, the buildings dissolve into the ground and melt into inky shadows until a looming stone-walled castle rises to take their place. You stumble backwards and frantically look back to the images of your friends, who have vanished into the black thorns, gradually blocking the darkening sky. You yelp when you feel Malleus’ hand against the small of your back, and you look up to see his face darkened with…
“You would never respond this brightly when I placed you within the confines of my palace, adorned in fineries fit for royalty. This blinding smile you’ve always shown me in this world… nowhere to be seen even when I seat you on the throne next to me. I tell you— I order you to love me, yet you only nod and fold your hands subserviently. You give me compliance when I wanted your heart!” His taloned nails dig through your uniform and barely pierce your skin.
His expression is downright livid, glaring down at you as green lightning streaks against the dark sky. He brings his other hand to pointingly dig into your temple. “I could easily manipulate this feeble mind of yours. Humans are so eager to submit to pleasure, and yet—” He looks torn. “— Even I force you to be my betrothed, I cannot be satiated until I know that you wholly return my feelings. It would not be a happy ending if I turned you into a marionette, would it?” He looks off to the side, pondering something, and nods. “Yes, it would do me no good. Sebek adores happy endings. I cannot deny him or Lilia and Silver one.”
Malleus returns his gaze to you, gasping for breath as the thickness of magic begins to slowly fill your lungs. “Do you see the position you have put me in? No other dream will do for you, so here I am diminishing myself to the wiles of your ordinary world. I admit, it has been fun playing family with you and the others. How many times has it been? Walking hand-in-hand with you, playing with strays on the street with Silver, eating out at these ‘family restaurants’ to avoid Lilia’s cooking, stopping at these little shops to gorge on ‘crepes’ that Sebek has taken a liking to… I admit, there is an appeal in the mundane, and yet…” His eyes flick to the looming castle. Its pointed towers and gray-stone walls must feel intimidating to you when you’re so used to charming food stalls and cute models appearing on billboards.
“Alas, that is not the life I live.” With a flick of his wrist, everything melts away into the sunny metropolitan scene, but he is still draped in that inky garb, “So I have to make do for now. I want to know what about this world makes you happy. I want to continue seeing that smile. I—” Malleus’ voice hitches for a second, and despite the menacing ink floating around him, he begins to look like every schoolboy that you know. “I’ve learned my lesson. Delusions cannot make us happy.”
He swallows his tears, yet his glistening green gaze is enough to shake even the coldest hearts. “I don’t want to lose you to this world.” His plea comes out shaky, still giving his best efforts to be composed as he usually is. “I don’t want you to leave me.”
"So for now, I will place you in this world. The only world that will give me this smile." He takes a step back, yet his shadow continues to loom. "Till I know what will make you stay forever. Till you satisfy yourself with mere images and finally them let them go. Then you will come to me and I will show you another happiness."
You can feel still the sting of his claws. On your back. On your temple. You look at his black garb. The pedestrian sign above you chimes a signal for you to cross. You look up. The day is sunny and bright. Today will surely be a good day at school.
You’re fucking crazy.
You continue staring at the sky. The clouds are unmoving. Actually, you don’t feel even the slightest bit of wind. You try to tune in to the passerby’s chatter, but they’re all incoherent. Just buzz imitating human conversation. Your friends’ distant voices continue to repeat the same phrases as they beckon you to the other side of the street. They never stop.
You’re really fucking crazy. I never wanted this. I don’t want this. I want to go back home. I want to sleep and wake up and remember nothing. Why why why why why me why did it have to be me—
“[Y. Name]?”
Like an unused doll creaking its joints, you slowly tilt your neck down and look back at Malleus. When you weren’t looking, that mysterious outfit returned to being another poor imitation of your school’s uniform. The necktie shouldn’t be that color, should it? Malleus is staring at you, slowly watching your every move.
Every facial muscle feels wrong as your lips soften into a smile, and you stretch your hand out to wipe away the tears pricking the corners of his eyes. “What's wrong, Mal?” you ask softly. You take his hand into your own and begin guiding him into crossing the street. “I told you, didn’t I?”
“Why would I ever want to leave my family?”
“SILVER!” You call out, waving to him from the school gates. In this hazy dreamscape, in a scenery with blue skies marked by towering skyscrapers, SILVER VANROUGE finds you at the same location every time.
You are always so pretty in that unusual uniform. Like a magnet, he finds himself drawing closer to you in the midst of a faceless crowd. You shoot him a concerned look as you give him a lookover from top to bottom. “You alright?” You ask, poking at the creases in between his brows. “You look even sterner today! Something went wrong during club? You’re awfully early today!”
He shakes his head, but leans into your touch when you press your hand to his forehead to feel for a fever. You could never bring yourself to touch anyone like this so brazenly in the real world, so knowing that you were actually affectionate… gave Silver a few opportunities to be selfish. “I skipped,” he mumbles.
“You skipped?!” You cry out, staring at him with such comical bewilderment that it would have made Silver laugh were it not for the circumstances. You bring out your phone (not the cracked one that the Headmaster gave you, he observes, but (F.Color) and adorned with a personalized phone case) and hurriedly dial something. “I– I have to call Lilia!”
With hurried ease, Silver gently puts his hand on yours and lowers the phone. “It’s okay, really,” he assures you. “I… just wanted to go out early. Aren’t you the one always saying that ‘all work no play makes Silver a dull boy’?” At least, in the other dreams.
Fortunately, this comes to you as something as you would say, because you don’t comment on it. “B– But you’re always saying that discipline—!” He shakes his head and offers you his arm.
“Come,” he beckons you, looking princely in his dashing school uniform and striking silver hair. With a sort of tired fondness, he crooks a smile at you. “If I said that I wanted to spend time with you, would you indulge me at least?”
He watches as a blush blossoms on your cheeks, and you nervously wrap your shaking arm around his. He hides a gentle chuckle to himself. So this is what you looked like as a normal student. He thinks back to whose place he might be taking up in your dreams. Could it be a friend of yours as well? Did you link arms with them as you did now? Did you enjoy living out your youth under such a stunning blue sky with them?
He shakes his head. Whoever he might have replaced, they were long gone to you. There is nothing he could do in that regard but make you happy in their place.
“And so, I got picked on by the teacher again!” You whine to him. “Ugh, I stayed up all night watching anime and doing my dailies, so I didn’t have the chance to read the assigned readings! Waaah, Sebek’s gonna make fun of me again…!”
Another point of interest that stood out to him was how much your attitude towards education differed from that of this world and Night Raven College. He had always assumed that you were naturally diligent, acing high scores in subjects that didn’t need magic to excel. Finding you in the library wasn’t an odd sight, and sometimes he would even find you tutoring some of your fellow first-years and Grim with little success. Yet here you were in your natural habitat, foregoing academics in favor of hanging out with friends after school or binging your animated shows.
While he mulled over the differences between this version of you and the one that he knew, he is snapped out of his thoughts when you began dragging him to a pop-up gathering of indie stores in the middle of a plaza. “Let’s check it out before we head home!” You urged him, tugging his sleeve when he came to a standstill. “Come on~! It’s such a waste of your good looks if you keep wearing the same thing whenever we go out!”
“I don’t—” Silver starts, but sighs when you’ve successfully pulled him into shopping territory. He lets himself be dragged around by you, placing cute clips in his hair and even snapping pictures of him to send to Lilia and the others. At one point, he holds onto your hand to not get lost in the crowd as you get excited over thrifted clothes. You weren’t this absentminded either, were you? But as you turn to him with a cute hat on, posing for him as you ask whether it was cute or not, he decides that this wasn’t bad either. If you were so at ease that you didn’t feel the need to keep your guard up, then maybe he should let you enjoy yourself for a little bit.
There are things here that exist in Twisted Wonderland— cars, phones, colorful balloons— and then he looks up expecting to see a mage whiz by on their broom only for… nothing. Despite living the majority of his life in a secluded forest cabin in a country that was mostly old stone houses and gothic castles, the unfamiliarity of urban life did not perplex him, but rather what it lacked. Street magicians pulled coins out of kids’ ears rather than waving a wand and arranging a light show, brooms were not used to fly but to sweep, and vehicles emitted unpleasant smoke rather than magic exhaust, just to name a few. Your ordinary was… far more ordinary than anyone was thinking.
And yet it is in these ordinary dreams that Silver finds you happiest. You bound over to him with two cups of ice cream in both hands and sit on the bench next to him. “Here you go~!” You cock your head when Silver continues staring at you. “Um, Silver…?”
With a drowsy yawn, Silver plops his head into your lap. “Please feed me,” he says, closing his eyes as you pout down at him. “I’m tired.”
“You didn’t even attend club activities!” You complain, yet you feed him a spoonful of ice cream.
With the taste of nothing cooling down on his tongue, he lets the idle buzz of the plaza become white noise as he focuses on the plush of your thighs and the gentle touch of your fingers combing through his hair. In this cityscape that you keep returning to, Silver is always met with new things that he would never have experienced. Holding your hand as you window shop, playing around with filters on your phone, basking in the warm sun after a date… He had too much on his plate as Malleus’ retainer and a student of Night Raven College.
He pries his eyes open, your silhouette against the sun coming into focus like an angel’s halo as you busy yourself with your ice cream. “[Y. Name],” he breathes out your name, fingers coming up to graze against your cheek. You look down at him and smile. “Are you truly happy?”
“You and Malleus keep asking the same things,” you gripe. “Do I look sad to you?”
“I’m… just asking.” He puts down his hand. “Come, [Y. Name], you’ve had enough. Let’s wake up.”
You stare at him.
“Please, [Y. Name], wake up already.” He hears his voice breaking. He pushes himself up and puts a steady hand on your lap, looking earnestly into your eyes. “Wake up already. This isn’t real!”
The white bird continues to fly around your head. He buries his face into your shoulder and lets out a broken sob.
“I don’t know what to do, [Y. Name],” he whimpered into your clothes. “Please tell me what I’m doing wrong.”
He feels your hand pat his back, comforting, yet the last thing he wants right now. “You’re doing great, Silver.” You tell him the words he wants to hear, like it’s his dream and not yours. “Why are you crying? You’re doing everything correctly.”
“I’m not!” He yells, pushing you back by the shoulders. He stares into your eyes, hoping, praying, that he finds even the faintest flicker of realization inside them. “If I did do anything correctly, then you would want to stay with me!”
How could his voice echo throughout a busy plaza? No one looks at you. You only continue to stare unblinkingly.
“When I found you amidst all those dreams, awake and feeling, I was— I was so happy,” he sobbed. “I couldn’t take on the task of facing all those dreams alone. When you were there when the truth about my origins was revealed, I felt that, despite our brief meeting, there was no one else aside from my family that I would be happier to share my secret with. After all, you… You…!” His face twists as he tries to stop himself from crying, but his emotions continue to spill out like ink on paper. He delicately grasps both of your hands in his, but the way he’s squeezing you is desperate. “When you encouraged me to keep going… All those times when you held me by the hand and guided me forward… When we saw all those absurd dreams… Undergoing trial after trial…”
He presses his forehead against your hands in a silent plea. “Was it not enough to make you want to stay with me?”
The silence that ensues only further breaks Silver’s heart. He doesn’t know if you’re silent because you don’t fully comprehend the words that he’s saying in your dreamlike state or because that is your answer. He doesn’t dare look at you and only grips your hands tighter.
“Ever since I saw you in that dream…”
As according to the fairytales.
“Ever since you stayed by my side to weather the storm…”
As how the perfect princes start their vow.
“Despite our brief knowing…”
Because love does not discriminate.
“You have always been the object of my thoughts and my adoration.”
Because love is all-encompassing.
“Even If I know your kind heart would not say so…”
Because you are love.
“I would draw my sword for you if you so decree it.”
A heartfelt promise.
“I would do anything for you.”
A romantic gesture.
“No matter the cost.”
Even if it goes against whatever morals his breaking heart has left.
“So please,” he whispers, lifting his head to you as he bares his tears and feelings to you, as vulnerable as the day he thought he lost everything. “Please.”
“Just come back to us already.”
I love you.
But your eyes only crease in fondness, patting his silver hair like he isn’t falling apart in front of you. “Okay, Silver,” you murmur, smiling. “Let’s go back home.”
Silver bows his head and sobs, uncaring for the vacant stare the doll in front of him gives him.
“They’re not completely gone, Silver,” Malleus purrs from your bed, stroking your sleeping self as his knight stares at them from the doorway. “Do you not trust my word? I don’t plan on keeping them in this state forever.”
“Lord Malleus, please. Stop these dreams already,” Silver chokes on his words, stumbling into the room with his eyes on you the whole time. “Or at least, put me to sleep with the rest of them. I can’t bear it.”
Malleus tuts pityingly, thumbing the boy’s pale cheeks as he studies his bloodshot expression. “Look at you, barely a wink of sleep. It’s not my fault that your Unique Magic allows you to easily wake during your dreams. It is within my realm of power to put you back to sleep, but…” Malleus has a thoughtful expression as he looks at your peaceful slumber. “You always seem to be having a grand time before you decide to ruin everything for yourself.”
“I’m— I’m not,” Silver protests. To prove a point, Malleus stretches out his palm to portray a glowing pair of figures. Silver, with his hair tied back and in a formal suit, seems to stare at your figure with the most blissful expression as you twirl around the ballroom. Then, behind him in another flicker of green light, you, Silver, and Lilia are playing with cats just outside your home. Then, on his shoulder, Silver kisses your palm as he swears to protect you as your knight forever. Lastly, the green image of you both strolling hand in hand through racks of clothes dances in front of his eyes. “That’s—”
“It’s a dream, Silver,” Malleus says, the green figures flickering out when he closes his palm. “A place where you can momentarily forget about your worries. Is this not what the Child of Man came here for? A good night’s rest? They will wake the following morning feeling energized and refreshed, without knowing what transpired within their subconsciousness.” He cocks his head at Silver. “Are you saying that you would not allow [Y. Name] this slight reprieve?”
Silver shakes his head. “Of– Of course not. But every dream they have of their original world, they fall deeper and deeper. If we do not lose them to the world on the other side of the Mirror, then…” He swallows the anxiety in his voice. “Apologies. I… don’t mean to doubt you, my lord. It just…”
“Speak, Silver,” Malleus urges him. “Do not think for a second that I don’t know what ails you. After all, they occupy my heart as well.”
He bites his lip, feeling pathetically like a child in front of his liege as his eyes sting with tears. “I hate it,” he admits. “I wish they’d stop dreaming about that other world. I just wish—” His breath hitches. “I just wish I had made them happy enough that they’d forget everything and stay with… us.”
His voice trails off, ashamed of his own selfish inhibitions. “This isn’t the sort of thing a knight should think, but I… I’m scared. I don’t want to go hunting people like a mad beast like Sebek does, but…” He buries his face in his hands. “If that would make them happy enough to make them stay…”
“You would do anything,” Malleus finishes for him. Silver, face still hidden, nods. “I can tell. It is nothing to be ashamed of, Silver. I fear that just may be the many mysteries of love.” The prince smiles down at you, thumbing away the creases forming between your brows. “It drives us to do things we wouldn’t do. I thought it was a hindrance, the knot in my chest that forms every time this Child of Man invited me, and yet now I understand. Love is the start of many miracles. That was true for you, for Lilia, for me, for Baur.” He closes his eyes with a pleasant smile.
“That is why, Silver, you must never let go of those that you love.” Opening his eyes, he stares at the young boy with the eyes of a future king, glowing like the devil in the shadows of the room. “Do you understand? To make yourself happy. To make everyone around you happy.”
“Through love and for love, all things are possible.”
All things are possible…
With a renewed purpose, Silver rubs away his tears and stands tall in front of his liege, nodding. “Yes, Lord Malleus, I understand.”
“For love, I must do everything to make sure this love stays.”

(also PLEASE PLEASE SILVER AND MALLEUS MAY BE SIMILAR BUT THEY ARE FUNDAMENTALLY DIFFERENT. the brothers are similar but they grieve different) idk why i did that im just a bit insecure that they might be too similar
yan!dating sim twst x reader. inexplicably, you awake in the dating sim ‘twisted hearts’ as a run-out-of-the-mill side character. no worries, the love interests are already after yuu. you just gotta stay out of it all, right? 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓 𝐅𝐈𝐕𝐄 — book 3 prelude. previous part here.
♡ “Well, you look positively thrilled to be attending this class, pup.”
♡ Contrary to Professor Crewel’s words, you have the biggest scowl stretching your lips down, into a glower, into the most deepest suit of misery etched onto your face. Your eyes are foggy, words misty, and just as you hear Yuu’s foothall reverberate down the halls — the familiar bickering between Ace and Deuce, nearing you slowly but surely — you plead your case.
“.. Hide me.”
“I beg your pardon?”
Your head dips low. Since when were you type to stoop so low as to seek asylum from a first year, magicless, homeless student? “Hide me. From Yuu. Please. I’ll turn in all my missing assignments. Please.”
♡ That’s exactly how you’ve found yourself concealed behind his height, well-cloaked in whatever edges of his fur coat find you. The room is rife with suffocating quietness as the door creaks, slowly, taking its time, just so you can feel Yuu’s fingers graze the wood, and their eyes scavenge the vicinity for a trace of you. Closing your eyes tight-shut, you strengthen your grip on the fabric. Just this once - just this once - and you’ll survive.
♡ “Professor, have you seen them?”
♡ Them. They don’t name you, and painfully so, Crewel immediately recognizes who they’re talking about. Nameless, colourless, faceless. There is no one here other than you.
“As usual, no.”
“I can see them behind you.”
♡ Unfortunately, your breathing gave it away, and you're not exactly invisible, so you make do with just legging it again and stumbling into whatever room you get your hands on.
♡ Finally you come across a good one, and remember one thing: don’t breathe.
♡ Don’t breathe. Don’t let a single hint of your presence scrape against the floor, or taper off your lips. Don’t breathe, don’t look anywhere past the rows of ornate shelves or the very confused ghost librarian. Don’t breathe as you shimmy inside a cranny of dust, untouched newspapers and shield the crown of your head forevermore. Don’t breathe as you squeeze your eyes shut and imagine yourself anywhere else.
♡ Don’t breathe when the door creaks open. A slow, inevitable croak gliding against polished panes.
“Hi, mister. Have you seen -- well, uh -- a Scarabian student anywhere?”
♡ Don’t breathe even when you know it’s pointing straight at you. Traitor.
“Hey..”
♡ You don’t look up.
“Why’re you hiding from me?” Behind your lids, you imagine the dark cusps of their irises gleaming with sincerety. “I’m sorry. Did I do something wrong? Did I scare you?”
♡ You don’t like it. You don’t like the way they’re talking to you, slow and genuine and all too dehumanizing, as though you’re but a small rabbit in their eyes. They don’t know, they don’t know you’re an actual human being - one with conscience, humanity and awareness. They don’t know you know them, and they don’t know who you really are, all that’s left in their eyes is a perfect little image of a non-playable character - one that’s bound to come in their hands, in a way, or a thousand others.
In lieu of a response, you clamp your lips tight shut. Your eyes cinch into a glare; one you hope is full of the aversion you feel. “I thought I made it clear I want nothing to do with you.”
♡ You don’t know what to do. Give in. You’re doomed. Rebel. You’re doomed. Earning Yuu’s affection, or earning their loathing - neither option is good.
“...Oh.”
“Listen,” You crack one eye open in spite of yourself. Yuu looks devasted - you have to save yourself. Brain straining for excuses, you spout out a career-ending one. “... It’s not you, it’s just that..”
...
“...That?”
“That you’re not my type.”
♡ Yuu blinks - okay, this is your chance. You can’t just go into things that can be changed, look into things that are definitie. Look into.. ah, what would particularly steer your way clear of them?
♡ You look at the schedule in their hands. First year, huh?
“I’m into older people.”
“...How much older?”
You scramble. “A lot older.”
“...Like a year?”
“No. I like mature people.”
Their shoulders relax - you take that as a bad sign. "I can be mature."
"No, no. They need to look like they have taxes."
"...Taxes."
"Taxes. I also like people who are tall."
Yuu visibly straightens.
"Very tall."
Yuu visibly un-straightens.
"Like, concerningly tall. Like if they stand up too fast they're a threat to low ceilings."
"..."
"And older."
"..."
"And emotionally unavailable."
"That sounds unhealthy."
"Maybe."
"Maybe?"
"Actually, preferably unhealthy. I like people who look at me and immediately decide I'm none of their business."
Yuu's face falls, a slope to their brows as they frown, unknowingly, to themselves. What you’ve just said might just give you some time to prepare, because you, and any sane person in the world, know that a simple barrier like a preference won’t stop them. That’s how Yuu has always been. In a way, they need to get to you, no matter what. That’s how it always will be. "I like people who forget I exist."
It falls further, you realize. Something, the one thing, actually, that the latter is not able to do.
"I like people who don't text back. Oh, and they must have weird hobbies.. Like birdwatching, or growing mush-”
Ah. Hands clasped over your mouth, with horror, do you realize you’ve begun matching your interest to a certain Mountain Lovers president. Mission abort, the withdrawal symptoms must really be getting to you, huh?
"And NOT teal hair."
Yuu touches their hair, hopeful.
"NOT first-years."
Yuu lowers their schedule, hopeless.
"NOT extroverts."
Yuu winces.
"NOT people who follow me around."
Yuu winces harder.
"NOT people who keep asking for my number."
At this point, Yuu looks like every word is physically striking them. Relishing in the blow, you stand up, pivot on your heels and leave them to wallow in the destruction you’ve left in your wake. Not without picking up your belongings, which happen to a little journal you keep to maintain track of the plot, a chewed-up pencil, and an apple - shooting Yuu a confirmatory glare in case the thief is actually them. On the way, you realize the ghost librarian has tears in his gargantuan eyes. Oh-well, it seems like Yuu’s favoribility does not only extend to suitors, but ghosts as well.
♡ Something is going to go wrong today. Very, very wrong. You’re sure of it.
♡ And no, you don’t just say that because of your disastrous, almost-disastrous- encounter with Yuu.
♡ Your NPC sixth sense tells you there’s double trouble on the horizon, waiting to get a taste of you. Double trouble.. you work your throat around the words, and try to imagine anything of the sort - but your brain stalls, because apparently, rolling out of bed (literally) and forcing yourself through the daily morning rituals was still as bad as ever. It didn’t help Kalim was particularly loud today, something about the prefect, probably, you didn’t quite hear. Ugh, Vil’s going to slime you out if he ever finds out you’re skipping yet again-
“And just what are you doing in that flower bush, spud?”
♡ Speak of the devil, and he shall come.
Pretty purple eyes do not bode well with you.
“Uhh..” Tongue twisted, you crush one petal in the cusp of your palm, and bring it over your eyes, hoping to block out his face. Pretending very, very hard he’s just a figment of your imagination, because really, what are the chances you meet him in the very same place you thought he’d never come? “Well, er... I’m doing something very important and class-related right now, so I’d appreciate it if you left me alone.”
♡ Oh, no, he’s caught you dead in your right! Above, the glass dome over the botanical gardens greets you; limpid and beautiful, and if you squint your eyes just right, you can imagine the sky back at home. Homesickness, or whatever the afflicted call it, has taken a toll on you only after you’ve come to realize just how much of your life’s gone into a perpetual state of destruction. Teeth gnawing on lip, tarnishing Vil’s self-care advice right in front of him as you revert back to sqaure one; it doesn’t take a genius to figure out you want to vanish.
♡ Why exactly are you here? Somewhere in the middle of picking out a thorn from your thumb, you toppled over your boots and landed straight in a pile of.. whatever these are called. Now you’re just mulling your life over your tongue, wondering why you’ve just lost every ounce of hope in your life -—Jade (the scapegoat, you tell yourself) , normalcy, living in the shadows — and the blissful stretch of time in which you had not yet encountered Vil Schoenheit. Matter of fact, it seems he’s bound to run into you everday - much to yours and his very mutual chagrin.
♡ Hold on! The only reason he’s not turned on you is because he’s not yet privy to Yuu’s ever-growing and laughably one-sided affection for you, and the same can be said for everyone here.. you’re lucky he’s caught you alone, and not with Yuu, (the same person who confronted you outside your class, only to have you bolt away like they’d just set you on fire).
“Unbelievable. I was out on my usual morning run and I see this.” Vil points a long, long nail at you. You shudder, but don’t make a move, needle-like thorns prickling your uniform. “You’re sprawled over the Convallaria majalis batch, the very things I’ve planted. Dear me.. why am I not surprised? It seems your inclination of spelling ruin comes naturally.”
♡ Oh! By the miracle of the Sevens, it seems the damage you did to Vil’s Corona Marvellous or whatever they’re called, is mild. Otherwise, he’d not be letting you off with a mere shoo and one of those signature scowls. Taking his sweet time to inspect the bell-shaped heap with gloved digits, he tuts.
“Hm.”
”..What?”
“Nothing that should be of concern, to you, of course.” He says, reading your mind. “.. These look like they withered long before your weight.” The slope of his brows deepen into a fully-manifested, vexed frown. “Unbelievable! Whoever’s in charge of groundskeeping hasn’t been tending to them properly. Again.”
You blink. “Wait. So I’m not the floral equivalent of a hit-and-run?”
Vil exhales through his nose, already sounding exhausted by your existence. “You flattened perhaps three stems, I’d say that’s hardly catastrophic.
“That’s the nicest thing anyone’s said to me all week.”
“Don’t flatter yourself. It was anything but a compliment.”
“Okay, but the Corolla-”
“Convallaria majalis.”
“…Bless you.”
♡ Vil pays you no heed, opting to not dwell on your eccentricity any longer.
“Well. Since you’ve already made yourself part of the issue, you may as well prove useful.” Bells retreat to their home as the male ponders it over his tongue. Something sparkles in those of eyes of his before he straightens with a satisfied hum, glancing over at you.
“ Poor maintenance, trampled soil, half-dead roots…” Vil dusts off his gloves with visible disdain. “Why am I not surprised? Honestly, spud, you have a remarkable ability to entangle yourself in things beyond your understanding. Come along.”
“Wait- where-”
♡ In place of a response, he grabs your hand.
♡ And unlike the feeling you had when Kalim did the same, this one action has chills dancing down your spine. Frigid air pushes your words back in as Vil - suddenly - rotates your wrist, brow quirking. Tipped nails perch upon exposed skin as he momentarily gives you a look.
“Hm. New bracelet?”
“No-”
“You run away from me, yet you’ve no qualm catering to Al-Asim. I suppose he is your housewarden, after all..” Purple coalesces into an inscrutable suit. “But loath as I am to admit, do you realize just how terrible it is to take up so much of the precious time I spare you?”
♡ Huh? Squeezing your eyes open, you realize his focal point is.. a traditional Scalding Sands bracelet - one of the many Kalim had gifted you during his visits. Oh.. shit, you must’ve accidentally put it on rather than-
..“Take up?” you repeat carefully.
Vil stills. For the briefest second, something unreadable crosses his face, then it dissolves.
“Don’t misunderstand.” His grip loosens, though not entirely. “You’re the one repeatedly neglecting your studies. Naturally, the responsibility falls upon me when you fail to meet basic academic standards.”
“Wow,” you mutter. “You almost sounded a little emotional there.”
“I’d sooner drink diluted apple vinegar.”
“Isn’t that, like, healthy?”
Whether he seems apalled or disgusted by you, you can’t place your finger on it. “Why, you... Forget it.”
♡ Before you can formulate a viable escape plan involving perhaps a sudden, career-ending tumble down the nearest staircase, Vil pivots on polished heels and expects you to follow as naturally as one expects ducklings to trail after their mother. Oh, no.
♡ You want to bolt off, hide beneath the benches or do anything, instead- blurs streel your legs forcibly in the wake of his footsteps, and you chew the thick clump of dread down your throat. Glass arches overhead catch the amber spill of drowning afternoon sunlight, drenching Vil in celestial phosphoresence.
♡ Why is it so hard to just.. refuse him? You don’t know. Eyes straining, vision skewed, you try to focus on anything. But the slivers of parted sunlight bend around his frame, the back of his head, and it’s almost as if, painfully so, your attention is tethered towards him.
♡ Hmph! No one should look this gorgeous while actively ruining your life. Which begs the question: where exactly is he taking you?
“Ahh… there you are, Roi du Poison.”
♡ Your soul exits your body.
Vil barely pauses at the interruption, though the minuscule quaver in his brow suggests he’d hoped to avoid this exact scenario. Through the hanging curtains of ivy emerges another Pomefiore student, feathered hat unfurled and eyes glinting beneath panes. Rook - so, your luck has decided you’d do well being hunted for sport.
“Rook,” Vil says flatly, not even turning. “I should’ve known you’d be here.”
“Can a devoted admirer not seek the radiance of his beloved housewarden?” The hunter places a hand dramatically atop his chest. “Cruel, cruel Vil. I merely wished to deliver the pruning records and instead discover a most enchanting tableau.”
When his gaze lands on you, your muscles go rigid, being pinned to a board and encased without mercy. He seems to take pleasure in the way your gaze tries to settle on anything but him. Weirdo.
“Ahh…” The hunter breathes. “So there is our elusive little evader.”
“I’m an evader?” you ask, then chew down your words. Well, you are actively trying to act uninteresting, aren’t you?
“You vanished from Professor Crewel’s classroom through a window last Tuesday, did you not?”
Vil pinches the bridge of his nose. “Don’t remind me.”
“…Huh, I thought that was last Wednesday. Oh well.”
You don’t question how he knows, how the both of them know. It’d be futile as it is. Miraculously, as if reading your mind (which you’d argue he can), he directs at you a content little smile. “As a hunter observes the rustling of grass, the flight of birds, the trembling of leaves, so too do I observe the habits of those around me.”
Rook circles once around the Convallaria patch, boots silent against the stone path. His sharp gaze skims over the crushed flowers, then the dirt shrouding your weathered sleeves, the bite-rife state of your lips, and the fatigue pulling down your lids into a perpetual scowl. It takes less than three seconds for the both of them to concur on one, concrete agreement.
Vil starts. “I’ve said as much already. They insist on treating their body like an afterthought.”
“Mm.” Rook nods solemnly. “A neglected garden wilts all the same.”
You stare at the both of them. “Oh, cool. So this is an intervention now...”
“Far from it, actually. It would only qualify as an intervention if you intended to listen,” Vil replies smoothly. “You absorb perhaps one sentence out of every five.”
♡ Rook laughs then, rippling across the greenhouse’s feather-light air. It pulls his attention back to you again, unbearably focused.
“The way you shrink whenever attention settles upon you.” Pointing, tipping his head back, Rook croons. “And yet, despite this, attention finds you endlessly. Oh, what a haplessly ardent predicament you’ve found yourself in!”
Before you can recover, Vil abruptly thrusts a pair of gardening gloves against your chest. You stumble, and your belongings kiss the ground, thrown out of your bag. Vil’s left to wonder how such a light nudge could have you one with the ground, bare confusion written over those features before ebbing away with an ahem.
“Since you’ve already ruined my morning, you’ll assist us.”
Your jaw drops. “Us?”
Rook beams. “Bienvenue.”
“Bird Avenue? I dunno what that means.”
“Don’t absorb your setences. For all your resistance,” Vil says with immense satisfaction, “you’re staying right here.”
“Seriously?? Just ask Rook to use his signature spell and track the- ah..” You realize the chances of him setting a mark on the culprit beforehand are slim to none, cinching your lips shut. “Nevermind, but I’m sure we have some sort of camer.... don’t give me that look, please.”
♡ Silence.
♡ You close your eyes shut. Good golly, this is probably about the signature spell bit, isn’t it? Ugh, he’s going to be all up in your face within a minute, demanding you tell him why you know such a thing. This makes room for one more entry in your journal.. and wait, your journal-
♡ As if on cue, you hear papers rustle.
♡ “Interesting.”
♡ Double trouble.
“So this is where your prowess lies. Story-writing?”
Though he tries his best to pull his brows together, there’s a little glister in his eyes. A relieved one, a midlly proud one, a..
“How original.”
♡ Your Scarabia room is really, really bland. That’s the first thing you notice. In the middle of your bed is a journal you exert all your pent-up vexation and guides in - and in a shelf by the side, you keep your belongings (which are, admittedly, lessening by the second. You’ve no clue whose wreaking havoc upon them. You have absolutely no idea who's responsible. Frankly, you're too tired to investigate, and if somebody wishes to steal your half-finished notes and collection of mediocre pens, then they deserve whatever curse comes with them.) Tomorrow is a new day, and judging by your luck, tomorrow Yuu will probably discover your class schedule, blood type and favorite brand of toothpaste.
♡ You sling your bag at the bed when you enter your cave of hiding.
♡ As you dive face-first into the mattress, you ponder on today’s events. Jade Leech has officially stood you up - there’s been no sign of him at all. He does not deign to loiter beside your class after its conclusion, he does not show up to your club (though you know, somewhere, he’s still fixating on his hobby without you). Your plans have gone awry, haywire and well...
♡ You don’t need another anomaly.
♡ Right on cue, knuckles rap against your door. Knock. Knock. Knock. Your housewarden’s airy voice bursts in:
"Hey! Are you awake?"
Even if you were, with the sheer volume of his voice, you'd be forced to come to. You groan- delving deeper into the plush mattress. If you were to pretend to be dead right now, you’d be steered clear of this burden. Fatigue coaxes your lids down, spots gyrating in your vision - but with another knock, Kalim shoves you off balance.
“You wouldn't happen to know why Yuu was wandering around Scarabia asking strangers what toothpaste you use, right?”
As falsely naive as Kalim seems, you quickly find out he knows just the right way to usher you out. Ripping the barrier between you open, he greets you with his ritualistic smile. “Aha!”
“Housewarden.”
♡ This is the first time you’ve had anyone over, and this is also the last. Seeing him without his sullen retainer is a novel sight, but to dissuade you from the anomaly, he places a basket of fruits in front of you.
♡ Well, there you go. Your arms now teem with different colours and hues - but you don’t tell him to leave, because well..
“Anyway, I brought fruit.”
“Thank you. You can leave now.”
“What? Why?”
“Because you've already delivered the fruit.”
“But we haven't hung out yet.”
“Close the door on your way out-- wait, what? Why?”
♡ After your little opportunistic venture, you doubt he’d listen to you so easily, and you don’t particularly want him to leave as well. Those pouches and jewellery he gifted you have all gone missing, and.. well, you'd be lying if you said you didn’t want him to compensate the loss.
♡ Inviting him in as per hospitable custom, he makes himself at home quite easily. You don’t know what you’re doing, you have a whole Housewarden in your room - albeit he did mention something related to friendship.. you suppose you have no complaint here, then - (except one related to the fact he’s in the middle of an excuse for a room while donning his sleepwear. He looks so out of place it’s actually shameful.)
“Oh, man!” He gives a bright laugh. You stand near, not wanting to admit you’re awaiting his approval. “I sat on the bed and the frame nearly fell through!”
“Oh...”
Kalim laughs again, bright and unbothered. "Sorry! I didn't mean it in a bad way. It just surprised me."
He gives the bed frame an experimental shake. The bed responds with an alarming creak, and you wince. It doesn’t do that when you lay on it, in your defense.
"There it is again."
"Don't."
You don't understand why he's so amused, your room isn't funny, it’s a room. A rather miserable, downtrodden room, perhaps, but still a room. Instead of criticizing it further, however, Kalim cranes his neck around, taking in the sparse shelves and barren walls.
“Huh.”
You brace yourself. “Huh?”
"It's kind of nice. It looks like someone forgot to move in, but I think that’s where its charm lies, y’know?” He points at your empty shelf. “There’s practically nothing stored there! It must be so easy to access whatever you need.”
“There’s nothing I need.”
♡ Somehow, your very loud exchange has, inevitably, amassed the scrutiny of yet another boy, and there he is, door opening, posture taut in the entry. This is arguably the first time you’ve ever seen Jamil in his sleepwear, and with his long tresses trickling down his shoulders in mild disarray, you get the feeling you’ve woken him up from his sweet slumber. As if you haven’t already garnered enough of his dislike, the universe still manages to blindside you with more.
“Kalim.”
“Jamil!”
“How many times do I have to tell you to-”
Though, you suppose Kalim didn’t intend for it to come out as such, the way it was worded seems to inevitably grab Jamil’s compliance. You don’t miss the way he stares at you, though, completely and utterly aware that misery will bring its company. Reluctance brews itself upon the tip of his tongue, and he wants to refuse, you can tell. At one point, he may have tried to veil it beneath his usual exterior, but now, after a most unexpected turn of events, he knows you know, and you know he knows you know, so what’s the point in putting up a façade?
“Come!” Kalim makes space on your bed, mind you. Your bed. “Loosen up a little, and play with us.”
Oh, no. You do not need this right now.
He trudges in, a breath of incredulity blooming in the air before he lowers himself to your level. Seated comfortably, he tries to get a good look at your surroundings.
At one point, his gaze lands straight on your journal. But before he can comment on it, you let a hand jut forward and snatch it away just as quickly. Now, he’s eyeing you openly, tenfold the usual suspicion he has.
“I’m surprised you’re awake at this hour.” He deadpans when you point at the fellow white-haired culprit. “I’m talking about you, not Kalim. Given his track record of doing the same, he doesn’t rouse as much disbelief as..” He pauses for a moment. “You.”
You droop. “I sleep when I can.”
“Ah, well, that explains nothing.”
“You're welcome.”
“No need for the formalities,” A crease in his brows as he looks at you, lips jolting. “For what it’s worth, I was expecting that answer.”
♡ Five minutes later, the board is spread between the three of you. You still aren’t entirely certain how this happened. One moment you were trying to sleep, and the next you’re participating in what appears to be an ancient strategic game involving polished stones. Eyes combing through its structure and language, it appears to be a Scalding Sands tradition, and with the way they both speak of it, dwelling in the past and mulling the game over their tongues, you realize they’re already familiar with it.
“Remember when we played this when we were kids? Huh, Jamil?”
“Yes. I remember you taking up half the pieces.”
♡ Kalim explains the rules, he then explains them again, then gets distracted halfway through his own explanation when you pester him with another question. Jamil finishes it for him - though, and even now, he has yet to relinquish that look in his eyes, that look, rife with wariness, caution and the feeling that he’s treading very, very carefully with you. Jeez, he probably thinks you have some sort of Kalim-assassination or tax fraud plan cooked up in that head of yours. Which you do. Just not as severely.
“You need to protect your centre, that's your only objective. Do you understand it now?”
“Sure do.”
♡ Anyways, three rounds later, you've somehow managed to eliminate your own piece. Jamil stares, Kalim stares, and you crane your neck at them.
“What?”
“You took your own piece.”
“It was in the way.”
“It was your strongest piece.”
“Soo? It was still in my way.” Despondently, you caress the stony object. “Oh, well, if you insist, Jamil, then its sacrifice shall be remembered.”
An eye roll. “..By who?”
“Me, who else?”
Jamil pinches the bridge of his nose, but just when you think he’ll respond in that quietness, he supplies. “I don’t think I've ever seen someone lose a game quite like this.”
“Yeah, well, you’re letting Kalim win every time, so I think I have a reason.”
He lets you go with an indecipherable look on his face, and you spend the night dealing with it, in your mind, in your memory, in your thoughts.
How predictably unpredictable.
♡ “Didja’ know?”
♡ You try to rub away the fatigue in your eyes.
“Know what?”
♡ Currently, you're trying to focus on the work at hand. Pen scribbling lines regarding history, you desperately try to ignore Ruggie Bucchi, but to no avail. Whenever you do so much as lean back, he tips his chair back and replicates the motion until you’re forced to give him a sliver of your attention. That gets him going, it seems.
♡ Apparently, waking up first and foremost - earlier than Jamil, surprisingly - and realizing that having two boys dead asleep on top of you was not ideal if you were looking for some sort of salvation. You’re not even sure what had happened that led to Jamil, of all people, knuckling under sleep and forsaking that strict demeanor. It seems atypical, atleast for him, but what’s more atypical is that you’d spent another hour trying to tip-toe around your room, lest you wake them up and cause them to actually remember you in the room with them. Ah, if you stretch, you can still feel the soreness in your limbs. Only the deities who sent you here would know how you even managed to breathe with that load on you.
♡ What’s good, though, is that you seem to have taken your mind off of Jade completely. Like a leech had he plagued your mind, now you like to think he’s an afterthought, and a bygone memory that served his purpose and left when he lost interest. Hah.. you’re finally, finally improving. You’re finally..
“Eh? Didn't ya know? Vil's been askin' around Octavinelle about ya. Somethin' about gettin' you to switch clubs, I think. Heh, maybe that's just the rumor mill talkin', though. Shishishi...”
“Mm- wait-”
♡ What.
“WHAT?!”
♡ The entire class looks at you now. Grumbling beneath their breaths, and with Professor Trein giving you the most scorching scowl known to man, you’re compelled into quietening down, but not allowing the cold knot in your stomach to simmer, nor the rapid staccatos of your pulse. This time, you willingly lean into Ruggie. Vil? Granted, he did see your.. journal work, but him going as far as to head to Octavinelle to strike a deal with them? It didn’t seem so far-fetched given the circumstances, but at that time, he'd tried his best to appear staid and unaffected by your entries. This.. this is bad, bad news. If Vil succeeds, then - you’re destined for failure.
♡ If Vil succeeds, then you are the failure.
“Who- where’d you hear that from?” You gawk, perspiration roving down your nape, pen abandoned. You don’t know what to say. Your heart is beating.
♡ Ah, what a dumb question. Ruggie is known to work odd jobs, it’d make sense he’d catch sight of Vil, of all people, amid the Mostro Lounge crowd during his shift. But really, Vil? Stooping so low as to seek Azul’s help?
♡ What even was in that journal? A few scribbles about Twisted Hearts, and the usual jargon.. nothing out of the ordinary. Nothing that would ultimately catch his interest. You hadn't even focused on it that much yourself, nor did you mention names, even if someone did manage to get their hands on it, you thought they’d just call you absolutely maniacal and do away with it.
♡ And you, stooping so low as to seek Ruggie’s help?
“You have to help me.”
“Whoa, hold it right there.” His lips pull into a moue, hands tugging at his tie from where you’d absent-mindedly rendered it askew. “ Remember all those times I asked, and ya told me to mind my own business? Why'do I go and help ya now?”
“I-”
“Besides, I got a pretty sweet side gig at the Mostro Lounge. If I stick my neck out for ya, who's gonna make up the difference, huh?”
He grins, teeth on display.
“Now, if you've got somethin' worth tradin', that's a whole different story. Shishishi.”
♡ Worth trading? You haven't got anything, you..are a lost cause. Your room is laughable, your grades are despicable, the company you keep is non-existent, and your pockets.. Ah.
“I can give you anything you want.”
A gleam in your eyes, your hands form a bridge to let your chin perch upon. The brightness that you’d once lost reclaims its reign over your face, and if this world were any more ridiculous, you are certain he would see a lightbulb forming over your head.
“Now we’re talkin’.”
“Anything. I have access to Kalim’s bank account. Trust me.”
So I bet yall have seen the leaks by now, and damn i love the new sillies so far, especially rielle he looks exactly how I envisioned him. He's so full of whimsy I cant
The yan potential with the RSA students are amazing too, with love at first sight, hopeless devotion to the ones they love and the whole "I need to save you from the villains" mindset, what's not to love ??
Not fully following canon events and a lil ooc becasue they came out a day after the release of the chatacters
As the preparations have to be made for the contest against RSA, of course Crowley forces you along with the students to prepare. At least it's not as akward anymore, as you now know them.
While you're just happy to hang out with your friends, Azul and Jamil have the time of their lives. Finally, FINALLY, some alone time with you (well, almost alone, but this is better than sharing with the rest of the pricks, as they can tolerate eachother if it means no one else joins).
They hope this moment would never end, but, seems like the universe has some other plans for them. They hear a shout, disrupting their lovely time with you. Rage quickly turns into pure horror as they realise who's interrupting them...
To their utter horror, seems to be their awful rivals from RSA, just what they needed. It could've been anyone that disturbed them, he'll they would've taken anyone else at this point, but it had to be these two, amazing.
Rielle was the one that spotted the three of you, well, he spotted Azul to be exact. He wanted to say hi to his childhood friend, as they hadn't seen eachother in a long while !! It would be fun to talk once again !! Meanwhile Minajael is just tagging along, just going with the flow
Rielle rather abruptly stops in his tracks as soon as he spots you, someone he has nevee seen before. He feels the world slow down around him, his heart racing and his face flushing. Is this what his textbooks was talking about when they meant love ?? If so, he loves this feeling !! He can't let go ! This has to be fate or something, he has to ask you-
Minajael feels at ease, despite still being right next to Rielle (probably the biggest loudmouth he knows). He feels a sense of calm was over him as he sees you. Is this, no, it can't be. Love always sounded like such shackles, like it would ruin his freedom, but this, he feels so free. He will keep a lower profile until he figures out what the hell is going on.
You quickly get overwhelmed as you NRC friends are pushed away by the new RSA stufents, one frantically asking you questions while the other seems to stare into your soul. It's all very overwhelming, but atleast the preparations are soon done so this will be over soon.
Just a few moments ago they had the absolute time of their lives, now these soiled BRATS are comming in, taking their very much precious time. It seems if the RSA students are gonna play dirty, so will they.
TLDR sore losers get prissy when RSA princes show up to take the spotlight, rhis was fun to draw, hope you like it. Haven't been writing in a whole so I suck at this but, enjoy.
Reblogs with text and comments are very much appretiated to keep me going and creating <3
I wanna se a fanfic where yuu discovers ramshackle is a living building
Like imagine the thing of ramshackle has in difference to the other dorms is that it is a living organism, it breathes, it pulses but never sleeps
It can change its space however it wants it but needs magic to do so, and since nobody has been living there for the past 100 years it grew weak and old in a sort of vegetative stage
But since yuu and grim have been living there for the past month/year or so its strength is sloooooowly getting back, its breathing again every creak of the floor is its breath, its pulsing again when you think its going to collapse on your head and you go outside and wait for a bit just to see if it will finaly crash, its vibrating with excitment of once again having residents living in it, always watching you sleeping seeing you grow comfortable in its walls
Filling them with joy once more
Houses are a place of rest, comfort, its where the heart lies, the crow cound't have possibly undurstand something he din't appreciate
