Getting started is the hardest part
I am excited to tell you about my exercise class last night. The first group fitness class I've taken in ages. I'm not sure why it's been so long, maybe a little bit of fear, money, or "being too busy." But I know everyone will always tell you the hardest part is getting started. I normally work out by myself, I normally do a lot of stuff by myself, but now is the time to expand. I want to make more friends and I want to change more lives and the only way to do that is to meet more people. You never know who they will turn out to be.
So yesterday I was a bit hungover and felt awful, but I had already signed up to go to this class. I almost went straight home after work, but I told myself that if I didn't go today I would never go. So I went! It was called Barre Motion, and incorporates yoga moves, pilates moves, and ballet moves into a cardio routine. I got there early, greeted the instructor and her dog (super cute bulldog!) and started stretching. The other women were really nice and fun. The class was a bit intense! It was good, but I wasn't prepared for it. I had to stop about 10-15 minutes before it was over. Everybody was really nice about it and tried to make me feel okay for doing that. I was actually okay with it. I wasn't embarrassed or anything, it was a very welcoming environment and I will be going back.
I'm glad I convinced myself to go even though I wasn't feeling so good. It's funny how I'm only just now getting sore 18 hours after it finished. I'll probably go for a walk tonight after work.
P.S. It's funny how over 10 years after my last ballet class, everybody always knows I used to do ballet. It's in my posture and my movements without me even realizing it. I love that!
