Vanishing Grace :: Unicorn :: Knight in Shining Armor

This trip I wanted a Unicorn, a gorgeous grey stallion, had been dreaming about finding one for months. They are not as common as one might think. So making the decision to head to Adobe Town, an area known for greys the drive began. Calculating time and distance incorrectly, I made the decision to turn back and try to get to more horses before light was lost. Driving down a dirt road and coming to a crest in the hill I gasped for air as I had just uttered the words... “Guess I’m not going to see my unicorn today”...He didn’t even move a muscle as the truck came to a quick and hard stop. He turned back and stared. I always take my time getting out of the truck, especially at close range. Just knowing and feeling he was going to be okay with me as he stood there, calm and observant. As I approached he very slowly moved off up the road veering left and I followed. He came to a stop and looked down below, there in a small little gully was his herd, 4 beautiful grey mares, 4 gorgeous yearlings and 4 foals. The mares embodied the same qualities as he, confident, unconcerned, calm and gentle. This area had been rounded up just 10 months prior to my visit and to see a herd so calm after 2100 of their brothers and sisters had been ripped away from this area that covers 1.5 million acres of protected public land was astounding. After showing me his family he walked back on to the road and over to the right, crossing a small golden grassy area, then out onto a plateau of rocks that over looked an enormous and vast valley, peppered with more of his mustang members. The wind was whispering a light and low sound as he sat staring out, every so often turning back to me to take a glance. He parked himself there resting one of his strong back legs allowing me very close. I felt as if I was in the Chronicles of Narnia. This stallion brought me to his mares, then over to the rocks as if showing me his domain. Its always the strongest and wisest of stallions who barely have a mark on them and hold such a high and noble place in the hierarchy of their world. That was most certainly this stallion, this unicorn, this knight in shining armour of a noble, gentle and strong mustang. Unfortunately he will vanish if we don’t do something in their behalf.
