Description
Floreal it’s an allegorical (or poetic) expression of the richness and exuberance of the land around Valencia, Spain. Pinazo painted several girls and a boy dressed in costumes from the region, and they carry the fruits and flowers that their land had brought forth. While Pinazo was born in Rome, he moved to Valencia when he was two years old, and that is where he grew up.
You may wonder where they are going? Are they going to the market to sell their flowers and fruit? Or are they going to make an offer to the gods to thank them for a good season? In any case, the title Floreal refers to the month identified with Spring in the French Republican Calendar.
