Vigils in Paris: A Virtual Reality Film
Tragedy hit home last week with the vicious terrorist attacks that occurred in Paris. The terrifying assaults and explosions that claimed the life of 129 innocent people have left the world shocked and grief-stricken. Attempting to understand the rationale behind such brutality is painful and frustrating, but thanks to all the journalists that are dedicated to bring us the latest information from that part of the world, at least we can remain informed.
For two New York Times journalists, Ben and Leslye, it was essential to document what followed after the unexpected disasters. “We decided to film around the places of remembrance: in the squares, at the attack sites and at memorials that Parisians and visitors had quickly constructed as a way to transform sadness into strength.”
As journalists that could feel both the grief and the strength across the streets of Paris, their mission was to create a virtual experience that could reach anyone through the use of an app. This type of new technology provides an experience that now allows viewers to feel present in the candlelight vigils being held in the attack sites and memorials. By downloading the NYT VR app available free on Android and Iphone app stores, you can virtually join those who have come together as a community to pay respect to those who lost their lives. “We always seek to help readers understand what life feels like in the places we cover. Virtual reality allows us to do that in an entirely new way.”
