Elyxion Chronicles: The Beginning
Superpower!AU
Summary: The Red Moon is the only time where the door opens between the two Worlds. Nine members from Elyxion take this opportunity to visit the Human World, enthralled by the beauty of their World. Unfortunately, the Red Force has set their eyes on the prize.
A/N: This is heavily based off of the Elyxion teaser, including the order of events, so it may be slightly confusing. This is the introduction to the Elyxion Chronicles.
Kyungsoo slides the last letter into its envelope, sealing it. He sets a crimson wax stick on fire, letting it melt and drip onto the cream envelope, waiting until the wax is enough for the stamp to fit in.
He blows out the fire, setting the wax stick aside to cool down and harden as he grabs his stamp and places it precisely in the center of the still wet wax, holding it down for half a minute before removing it to reveal a perfect stamp.
He sighs as he gathers his eight letters, making his way out of his chair and to the world outside. He kneels to the ground, his hand coming to caress the soft soil at his feet.
Closing his eyes, he sets the letters neatly side by side onto the soil, allowing a gap about a centimeter thick between each one.
“Help me send these to them.” Kyungsoo whispers and watches as the soil takes in the envelopes and leaves not a trace.
Sehun stares off into the distance as he hums lightly, a gentle breeze rustling his dark hair.
He takes in a deep breath, closing his eyes as the wind around him grows stronger, twirling around him in a stunning dance. Sehun has always felt freest just standing in this plane that stretches out in the distance, the weather cold and crisp, the sky a magnificent blue as his wind sings around him.
His eyes snap open when he hears the melodic dinging of his wind chime, signaling someone at the door.
He ceases his wind and turns to head back into his house, wondering who it could be. When he opens his front door, he finds no one there. Sehun glances about, frowning at the oddness. That’s when he sees the letter placed neatly in front of his door, and he leans to pick it up.
His heart stops when he sees the symbol on the crimson wax stamp that seals its contents inside the cream envelope. The unmistakable tree in the center, protected by a pentagon.
Sehun quickly makes his way inside again, to the safety of his home. He rips open the envelope to read the letter within, his fingers tracing the black inked letters, recognizing the handwriting immediately.
His heart pounds when he starts to read.
“The day when the moon is red…”
Junmyeon searches the greenhouse, the Land right next to his own. “Yixing?” He listens for an answer, but one look at the place shows that the man he is looking for is not there.
Junmyeon clicks his tongue, wondering where Yixing could be. He often stays in his greenhouse to trim and mend to his plants.
The flowing of water in the distance makes Junmyeon smile, however, as it always does. It’s nice to be able to visit Yixing’s Land like this, sitting in one of his wooden chairs as he watches Yixing walk about with a smile and a hum as he dotes on his beautiful plants, all while having his own comfort so close to him.
Junmyeon spots a withering iris and, shrugging, Junmyeon puts on one of the gardening aprons that is hung near the door, the one Yixing uses. He was about to grab some gardening tools (Yixing often persuades Junmyeon to help him), when he stops. An envelope sits on one of the racks near the door. The wax stamp is what catches his eyes most, all blood draining from his face at the sight. He grabs for it, knowing that he shouldn’t be reading Yixing’s letters, yet he can’t help it.
Not when their Worlds are at stake.
“The sun and the moon are apart.”
Yixing hums as he watches the night sky from the roof he stands on. The city lights are so pretty like this. The Human World always brings him awe and wonder—knowing full well that they should never underestimate the abilities of humans.
He vaguely wonders if he should go back to Elyxion and tend to his plants—he hasn’t watered them yet. He remembers he has a pot of irises that are withering.
He shrugs, knowing that the plant won’t die under his watch. He decides to stay in this World just a little longer.
Baekhyun draws his curtains, allowing the bright light to stream into his dark room. Light has always been his comfort blanket; being flooded by light helps him relax.
And right now, he really needs that comfort.
He glances back towards his desk where the letter he got that morning now lies, its contents still fresh, the symbol stamped into his mind.
“You and I,”
Chanyeol sinks his teeth deep into his bottom lip to stop his growing frustration from bubbling over. He expertly dabs at his canvas with his wet brush, pulling the paint to create a faded streak of red on the black background.
Fire.
His painting feels like his emotions right now, wild and pulsing as he tries to control it. He closes his eyes and takes in a deep breath as he tries not to think about the letter he received.
“Couldn’t be together anymore.”
Jongin pants, his legs burning as he bounds up the stairs, two at a time. Run, run, run. They don’t have much time left.
The building is empty at the moment, a rare occurrence, and Jongin takes his chance to immediately flee, his letter safe in the pockets of his beige coat.
He skids to a stop when he reaches the door, pulling it open and holding his breath to reveal what’s behind it.
Junmyeon reads the letter carefully, going back and rereading everything as he tries to comprehend the words. He takes in each letter seriously, allowing it to sink in.
His heart pounds, yet he stays unusually calm as he always does. The flowing of water helps his mind calm as he starts to think.
Why? Why, why, why— Chanyeol throws his canvas onto the floor, yelling as his fiery rage finally breaks free.
His studio where he creates as his art now becomes suffocating as everything closes in on him, the fire inside him burning hotter.
He didn’t mean to. He really didn’t mean to. He only went to the Human World because he was curious. Because he just wanted to see.
He couldn’t have possibly known what would happen.
Minseok makes his way through an empty alley. He knows this place well, as he comes here often when he’s too stressed back in his own Land. The Human World gives him the luxury to wander, to not care about anything in the world.
He exhales and is surprised to see his breath fog up in the air. It’s not yet cold enough for that here, and he doesn’t think it’s because of his powers either. He feels something cold fall onto his cheeks, his eyes widening as he looks up at the dark night sky to find a large snowflake floating down towards him.
He opens his palms, cupping them together as the snowflake lands gently on them, melting away to reveal an envelope.
Sehun makes his way through the nearing forest, heading towards the neighboring Lands to find the others. Surely he isn’t the only one to receive such a letter.
The mist grows stronger, an odd shade of strawberry pink as it envelopes him, signaling the change of Land.
Chanyeol’s rage has finally burned out, leaving only a searing pain in his chest as sorrow takes over. It’s not my fault…I didn’t—
Alone like this, afraid to find the others, he allows a tear to drop.
Jongdae glances at the machinery in front of him, data he collected in the past months of the weather flashing on the screens. Storms have grown stronger, more often. He tracks the paths of the lightning to understand the world around him, understand the changes that are rapidly happening.
He opens his drawer to reveal the letter he received. He unfolds the letter carefully, rereading to ensure he didn’t miss anything.
“Hurry!” Jongin yells as he holds open the door, waiting impatiently for the male behind him. When Kyungsoo is almost to the top, Jongin reaches out for him, grabbing his hand to bring him into the room.
The room burns. It’s built so that it’s fire-proof, but it still burns brightly as Chanyeol sits on his bed, watching the flames lick against the walls. No more strength is left in him.
All he wants is to burn the world down so he doesn’t have to hurt anymore.
Why me?
Kyungsoo breathes a sigh of relief when he opens the door again, seeing familiar walls. Did they make it?
No. They didn’t.
Baekhyun studies the photographs he’s secretly taken, his hand coming to trace one. So close, he was so close.
He grits his teeth in frustration, the darkness starting to bite at him.
He was so close at saving them.
Jongin looks up at the building, feeling a shiver run down his spine. He received Kyungsoo’s letter, and knew something had happened. Surely Kyungsoo came by himself in attempt to free the others.
Jongin couldn’t let anything happen to them, and he’s the only one with the means to escape at all. He closes his eyes, taking a deep breath before teleporting in.
Sehun has been to almost all the Lands, and yet he hasn’t seen any of them so far. Sehun feels a chill run down his spine at the thought of something happening to them.
The wind swirls around him more urgently, warning him of danger but Sehun shakes his head, needing to go. It’s now or never, and he’ll definitely regret it if he doesn’t go.
Minseok sees them coming. He already knows the others have been captured.
Panic kicks in as he turns to run, but he’s not quick enough. Ice bursts through his fingers, but he realizes in despair that it doesn’t work on them—no, they’re much too smart for that now. They know, and they came prepared.
Junmyeon knows something is wrong. He watches the sun set and night fall as he continues to wait for Yixing, but he’s not coming.
He clutches the letter tightly in his hands as they shake from utter terror. Something is terribly, terribly wrong.
He decides to check on the others, standing up from the chair only to feel a wave of pain shoot through his body, causing him to topple down onto the ground with a groan.
The others are in trouble, their powers have been taken. Junmyeon’s body turns cold as the realization dawns on him.
They’ve always been attracted by the greatness that humans are. The world they live in is filled with so much wonder, so they always look forward to every Red Moon, the only time where all of them can go to the Human World.
Kyungsoo was trying to warn them, to warn them that the Human World is too dangerous for them now. Humans have destroyed too much, become too greedy.
But it’s too late. Everything is too late.
He has to go save them.
Kyungsoo curses as they’ve been found, Jongin hysterically yelling for him to pick up the pace. For some reason, Jongin can’t teleport in this place, and he’s panicking at the thought of being imprisoned here forever.
Kyungsoo finally catches up when the door behind him explodes, causing them both to lose their balance and tumble onto the floor, splinters and concrete battering them like bullets.
Shit.
“Through the countless nights and stars,”
“Until the day we meet again.”
