Yira looks human, but she is actually part of another humanoid race from a different part of the galaxy. Her planet was severely damaged during a Time Patrol battle, hence why she was adopted by Exokarr and Sasha as a child.
The Saiyan and Frost demon stood alongside one another facing down their challenger, not without a sense of confusion about them mind you. Both had been ready for a formidable looking challenger to face them, or at least a sparring match against Keiko and Fruy. Instead Sasha’s elderly grandmother had entered the arena, dressed head to toe in her custom fit gi.
“Expecting someone else, you two?” Aimee asked in a silvery and pleasant voice.
Sasha looked on from the empty stands behind her grandmother. The usually busy high school dueling arena now stood deserted for the celebration of Conton City’s founding. Everyone was out preparing for the festival later. It felt nice to be alone, to be able to watch her grandmother fight. It had been far too long since she’d trained with her, and even longer since she had watched the old fighter spar.
Aimee’s purple hair had begun to fade with age, Sasha remembered it being much more vibrant when she was a child. Her grandmother still carried herself with confidence though. She hadn’t even taken a stance yet and already Sasha could see her analysing her opponents, looking for every detail that she could use to her advantage.
Even her gi seemed pristine. Despite being worn away and patches missing from various locations over the body, it still looked strong. It served as her armour and as a constant reminder of all the battles she had fought in the past.
Satsu let out an impatient huff. She had dressed herself in the new combat armour gifted to her by Capsule Corp expecting a challenge, not a senior citizen. Exo meanwhile relaxed his stand, sighing loudly and scratching the back of his head. This caught Satsu’s attention.
“Look, Miss Rezun, Sasha has told us a lot about you,” he began, looking up at Sasha in the stands. “but do you really thi…”
Before he could finish his sentence he felt a sharp sensation in his chest as he was lifted from his feet and sent hurtling back into one of the walls, crashing through it in a cloud of dust and debris.
Satsu’s eye whipped back to Aimee. There she stood, power pole in hand, extended outward. With a quick flourish she retracted the red pole back into its base form and returned it to the holster on his waist before adopting a stance Satsu had never seen before.
“I think you had better not take your eyes off an opponent, dear.” She replied sarcastically.
Sasha let out a little chuckle from the stand. She knew a light tap like that wouldn’t hurt Exo badly, and her grandmother’s quips always did make her smile.
Satsu’s mind was racing to try and figure out how she’d missed such an action.
“Was she always holding the power pole? Could she perform some sort of illusion trick? Or was this pure speed?” the questions swirled around her head.
“What’s the matter, sweetheart?” Aimee asked, in the same silvery voice as before. Satsu snapped out of her daze to look up at her. “Are you scared to hit an old lady?”
Satsu found herself gritting her teeth. A feeling of frustration swept over her, she could hardly believe this woman was testing her pride so much.
“Look, I don’t know how you just did that.” She started, trying her best to remain composed. “But I swear I won’t let tha..”
She felt a hard impact in the back of her head, sending her crashing into the stands beneath where Sasha was watching. Another cloud of dust burst onto the duelling arena from the opposite side, and in the centre of the arena stood Aimee, untouched, and ready to battle.
Both Satsu and Exo emerged from their respective dust clouds relatively quickly, and quickly after one another. Exo held his gut from the harsh hit he’d taken, coughing a little as he did so.
“My gas pocket…” he wheezed quietly before shaking off the daze and dusting himself off. Stepping back onto the field he kept his eyes fixed on his opponent, though he did take note of the dust cloud behind her.
Satsu meanwhile stumbled out holding the back of her head. The hit had left her somewhat dazed and confused. She did her best to snap herself out of it, though she couldn’t help but feel like this as somehow Exo’s fault.
“Alright..” she stumbled over her words a little as she spoke. “Not bad, but that won’t happen again…” she kept her guard up, waiting for any kind of sign that she had slipped behind her again for another strike.
“You won’t lower your guards again?” Aimee asked bluntly.
Exo and Satsu had to hold their tongues. The two were both proud fighters, the fact that she had easily landed a hit on both of them wasn’t something they were particularly fond of.
“How is a human this strong?” Satsu wondered in her head. She thought back to the times watching Sasha fight, remembering the strength and potential that was present but still needed to be drawn out. “Most humans don’t take up martial arts, even the ones that do hardly keep up with Saiyans…” she looked over to Exo. “He shouldn’t be having trouble either…his race are some of the fastest in the universe.”
Aimee cleared her throat, causing the two fighters to flinch a little.
“Well, if neither of you will make a move…I’ll have to start the warmup.” She shot the two of them a cocky smile. “Just promise you two dears will go easy on me, hmm? I have a bad hip after all.”
With that she moved quickly, using the afterimage technique to close the distance towards Exo. At the same time Satsu found Aimee in front of her too. This wasn’t teleportation, this was pure speed. All combatants quickly disappeared from view, moving quicker than a normal human eye could perceive. All that was being left were impact craters and large shockwaves from clashes in the air. Sasha could still see the battle though. Her grandmother’s speed, grace, and power were as amazing as ever.
“So, here’s where you are?” a soft and youthful voice called out from behind Sasha. It was the Supreme Kai of Time, with Trunks in tow and the large bird Toki Toki flapping behind them.
She stood up to bow respectfully to the Kai and to her superior officer in the Time Patrol. Trunks seemed a little embarrassed by the act but gave her a respectful nod. Sasha got the feeling he was still getting used to having this number of Patrollers looking up to him.
“I had a feeling I’d find you and your grandma here.” The Supreme Kai smiled, looking behind Sasha to the fight occurring in the ring.
“Wha? She’s fighting now?” Trunks seemed surprised, joining in the spectating. “Wow, she’s just as fast as ever.” He commented happily. “That’s my partner. Amazing, she’s not even taken a hit and she’s got these two on the ropes.”
Sasha sat beside her two superiors, continuing to watch the fight.
“Captain Trunks?” she asked softly, catching both his and the Supreme Kai’s attention.
“What is it, recruit?”
“My grandma always told me that humans have the potential to be great, like as great as even the strongest Saiyan fighter…do you believe that?” she seemed genuinely curious.
Trunks smiled at the question, looking back to the battle before back to her.
“When I met your grandmother she was no stronger than a Saibaman. I had asked Shenron to bring me a powerful warrior to help solve the crisis in Toki Toki city, and he bought me her. I was confused, thinking there had to be a mistake.” He looked back at the fight, taking in her movements against two much younger patrollers.
Sasha listened intently while the Supreme Kai of Time and Toki Toki cheered on Aimme loudly from their seats in their own ways.
“She improved so quickly, mastering so many forms of martial arts and ki based attacks. I never thought I’d see a human stand up against a fighter like Frieza, but your grandmother beat his ass down together with Goku. She even saved the Time Nest from Demigra when I could not.” He clenched his fist before looking back at Sasha.
“There are a lot of hurdles to overcome when it comes to races. I’d say humans have the hardest time, especially playing catchup to powerful beings like the Majin. But, humanity has one of the strongest wills I’ve ever encountered. Humans can do great things, even if it takes longer than it might take a Saiyan, a human fighter can beat any other fighter.”
With Trunk’s last words a mighty crashed rung through the arena as both Exo and Satsu hit the ground hard. Both were covered in bruises and marks from battle. Exo’s once white bio armour was now dirty and covered in scuff marks. Satsu’s new armour wasn’t much better. Part of the shoulder strap had become shattered and her white gloves were dusty and dirty too.
Aimee meanwhile remained pristine and untouched, standing proud and smiling up to her grand daughter in the stands. This show had been mainly for her benefit.
“Alright, that’s enough.” The Supreme Kai of Time shouted, her voice bellowing and echoing in the empty arena. “You two have had your fun and I think there’s festival planning to attend to. You’re dismissed. Captain Rezun, me and Commander Trunks need to speak with you in the Time Nest.”
The two beams of energy clashed with a booming crash. Purple and blue met on the battlefield as a strobing display of colour and power illuminated the area for miles around. Both struggled against one another, neither giving an inch, this was a contest of strength and will.
Sasha struggled to keep up the pressure on her opponent. Her Shining Blitz took a lot out of her, especially after the long battle she had fought. The ceremonial gi, bearing the Rezun family seal on it, had all but been torn to shreds by the impact of the fight. The wave of energy crept ever closer, slowly overpowering the lone fighter and what little strength she had left.
Even as she struggled to keep her arms raised to continue the attack all she could think of was her grandmother.
“I..I can’t, he’s just too strong.” She mumbled weakly.
“Sasha, you have to do this. This world depends on you winning this fight.” Aimee’s words echoed around her head.
Sasha strained to think under the immense pressure of the attack. It was as if an entire ocean was crushing down upon her. She would not falter though. With a roar of passion her body ignited in purple aura, forcing the advancing wave of blue energy back into the center of the two.
On the other end, enveloped in a bright blue aura, Mira fired back his own imitation Kamehameha. The stoic look on his face said all that needed to be said, he was giving this clash everything he had. As if to respond to Sasha’s renewed determination he too let out a scream of power, countering her advancement and cementing the struggle.
The resulting clash could be seen for miles around. Winds whipped up at the epicentre of the blast and the sky shone with flashing blue and purple lights. Rocks and surrounding scenery were sent flying by the vast display of energy on show and the entire planet seemed to react to this with almighty quakes of stress.
From the sidelines the rest of the Time Patrollers watched in horror as their friend and defacto leader took on this challenge all on her own. Exokarr, Keiko and Fruy stood together while Satsumaimo hovered above them, preferring to be alone.
All had sustained serious injury during the battle with Mira. With Towa’s modifications making quick work of whatever new skills they had been working on.
Exo slammed his fist into the ground, staring back at the ensuing battle.
“Sasha…” he whispered, looking on worryingly.
From her position in the Time Nest, safely away from the fight, the Supreme Kai of Time watched too. She stared intently into the orb of time, watching her Patrollers fight against this evil force with everything they had. Standing beside her was Sasha’s grandmother, Aimee, who continued to use what little influence she had over the battle to communicate with her grandchild.
Fruy and Keiko too looked on, though it was Satsu who couldn’t decide whether to watch of look away. Did she even deserve a say in this. She stared down at her arm, an arm that should have been blown off by Mira’s vicious assault. Sasha didn’t have to intervene she could have used Satsu’s distraction to her advantage. So why didn’t she? Why did she come and save the wounded Saiyan, not even giving her the satisfaction of dying at the hands of a stronger opponent. Though would it have truly been satisfying?
Satsu tried to shake these thoughts out of her head. Mira had made such a mockery of her Super Saiyan transformation, a form that was supposed to be almighty.
Fruy looked back at Exo and Keiko. Without saying a word he powered himself up, enveloping in a bright white aura and flying off towards the beam clash.
“Wh..what does he think he’s doing?” Keiko asked curiously. Exo was almost caught off guard. This was the first time he’d heard Keiko sound worried about anything.
“Idiot.” Satsu thought. “It’s not like he’ll have any impact.”
Fruy quickly flew by Sasha, catching her attention as he did so. Positioning himself behind Mira he let out a mighty blast from his hand, doing his best to remain stable in the violent crosswinds and cause some distraction to Mira.
While no damage was done it did catch the ire of the artificial fighter.
“I see.” He said calmly, looking back as if a fly had buzzed too close to his ear. “An insect wishes to die? Then all you need to is ask!”
With those words he let out a shockwave of aura, smashing into Fruy like a wave on a rock, and sending the Namekian hurtling back into the ground.
Keiko and Exo powered themselves up, reacting to the assault on their friend and joining him in battle. Landing beside him Keiko quickly helped him to his feet and began to summon all her strength alongside him.
Satsu looked on at the futility before her, clenching her fist in anger. “I’m not scared, I’m not. I…I just…” She almost shook in frustration.
“Keiko’s Blitz!” she shouted, sending her own pink energy wave next to Fruy’s orange one. Exo too joined in, hovering above the monster and sending a beam from his finger.
All impacted and all did nothing.
“More to die?” He asked, looking back again. “This is getting annoying.”
On cue he sent out another pulse of aura, smashing into the Patrollers, sending them both crashing into the ground again. Keiko and Fruy had trouble trying to lift their heads to look at the continuing beam struggle. Exo had been sent flying back several hundred meters and now lay unconscious on the floor, the last of his power used up.
“Sasha…” Keiko whispered, looking on at her friend.
Sasha looked on passed the beam clash, seeing her friends fight and fall by Mira’s power.
“Stop..” She thought to herself, summoning what strength she had left.
“Use that power, Sasha. Think of all the people he’s killed, all who will die if he’s not stopped.” Aimee encouraged, speaking directly to Sasha.
“I SAID STOP!” she screamed, unleashing the remainder of her power and pouring it into this attack. The momentary release seemed to make headway with the clash, pushing the blue energy back towards its master.
Keiko and Fruy pulled themselves aside, getting out of the way. If Sasha did win this clash they didn’t want to be vapourized with the adjacent several thousand miles of desert.
Mira’s attention turned back to the clash.
“Yes, that’s it. Help me test my power!”
With that he poured his own energy into his blast, pushing back against Sasha’s new found aggression.
The blue energy began to overtake the purple again, pushing it back closer and closer to the source. Sasha’s hands began to burn as the blue came close to enveloping her entirely.
Back at the Time Nest the Supreme Kai of Time let out a shriek.
“At this rate, he’ll destroy the planet and them!” she screamed.
Mira’s cocky laughter set up the mood. He had all but won and now had victory in the palm of his hand.
The huge impact of an energy blast on his back caught him off guard. This was much more powerful than the others. Turning his head to look up he saw the golden warrior flying above him. Satsu, powered up to Super Saiyan, had unleashed all of her remaining energy and now hung in the air, panting and exhausted.
“You!”Mira cried, taking his eyes off the battle for just a split second.
“NOW’S YOUR CHANCE!” Aimee screamed, signalling to Sasha.
Unleashing everything she had left and taking advantage of the distraction Sasha exploded with purple energy. Her attack smashed through the blue energy with ease and cascaded towards Mira who barely had time to look back before being enveloped by Sasha’s attack.
He screamed in pain as the attack burned away at his skin, cursing his own weakness at being distracted by mere insects buzzing around him. Sasha’s attack burned away his body down to its very core, and while he would soon be rebuilt by Towa, he was vanquished for now.
She asked, looking left to Exo. His stance was shaky, this much she noticed. Not that her own was any stronger. Both her and the frost demon had taken defensive stances against the mighty power that stood before them.
“Well..” he began, swallowing nervously. Sweat beat down his face in response to the huge pressure from the outpouring of ki energy from their opponent. “unless Sasha and Fruy can snap her out of it. Not great.”
She looked away from him, scowling a little to the ground. “Exactly what I wanted to hear.” Satsu muttered under her breath.
Before them the eruption of pink ki energy shot higher into the sky. Just being close to this much power reminded Satsu of her time in the gravity chambers at Capsule Corporation. She could feel the force pushing her down and away from the centre of this eruption, Keiko.
The dry earth splintered and shattered suddenly, causing the two to flinch. They knew there was only so much they could be prepared for. Keiko didn’t move however. She stood in place, power continuing to mass around her.
Howling winds and crumbling rocks provided the music to this concerto of destruction, a finer orchestra there was none. The deserts of this arid planet would be the stage for this piece, hopefully where none would hear it.
Satsumaimo and Exokarr remembered what this was like last time. Staring helplessly as they’d watched Keiko lose control, unable to intervene.
While Satsu had seen this more times than Exo he’d seen enough to know how the situation would end. They saw now why Whis had taken interest in training with her above the rest of them.
The two easiest screenshot opportunities for my newest Dragonball Xenoverse 2 character, Yira, pronounced “ee-ra”.
A Little Backstory
Yira is the adopted daughter of my pairing of Sasha and Exokarr, as they cannot have children biologically.
She is what I’ve coined a “Time Orphan”, and is actually the same race as Recoome of the Ginyu Force fame.
Following the death of Freeza, at the hands of Son Goku, his galactic empire fell into ruin very quickly. Soldiers and generals all wanted a slice of the power and war found its way to many of the normally stable worlds.
This chaos provided a minor opportunity for Towa and Mira to steal more energy from warring factions, Yira’s planet was chosen as the target.
Due to this the Time Patrol interfered, but the collateral damage was too high and many citizens died during the battles that followed. Yira was one of the casualties listed as “Missing, presumed dead.”
This was not the end however. Due to her involvement with time distortion and manipulation she was taken to Conton city, and placed in an orphanage with children of similar stories.
This provides them a new home for the time being, but also a chance for Time Patrollers of mixed species to adopt someone in need of a home, Sasha and Exo were one such couple.
Yira was four when she was taken into their home, and while it took her a little while to get close to her new father, she loved her new mother very much. After she got over the fact that her father was the same race as Freeza she became a clingy daddy’s girl.
Over the years she was trained by the couple and took her first chance to join the Time Patrol to help her parents do their job.
She adopted her mother’s style of fighting, but does like to use her father’s Death Beam and Supernova attacks to finish fights quickly.
