Wednesday Artist Spotlight: Calvin madeS.O.N. Early
Good morning, good people! It's Wednesday, again---and as you've so graciously inspired us, it's time we inspire you with our WEDNESDAY ARTIST SPOTLIGHT! Calvin madeS.O.N. Early!!
Name: Calvin madeS.O.N. Early
Craft: Professional speaker and Spoken Word artist
Current Projects: The Spoken Word Exchange Abu Dhabi. I've spent more than ten years working in youth development and public speaking. In this time, I have had the good fortune to be blessed with some amazing experiences. I've been interviewed by literary icon, Maya Angelou, on Oprah Winfrey Radio, been a guest on Lifetime TV’s “The Balancing Act”, a featured guest on CBS4, and performed at more than 45 high school, colleges, and universities across the country.
My most recent accomplishment was the start of my company, iCHOOSEgreatness.
Creative Process: I can’t say that I have a particular process but I have learned how to help trigger and inspire creativity within myself. I am observant and very much a visual learner and I use this to my advantage. In times where the words or ideas don’t seem to be flowing I take to the screen. I watch major and indie films as well as documentaries, videos of other poets, and shows like TED Talks. Another great source of inspiration has been the website www.postsecrets.com which I frequent often. Some of my best work comes to me while driving alone or in the wee hours of the night when the words won’t let me sleep.
Goal: My primary focus is to be a voice that will empower, encourage, and inspire youth and young adults to believe in themselves, to see their value, and to be the change they want to see in the world around them.
Philosophy: "The difference between living and existence is a matter of choice”- Calvin “madeS.O.N.” Early
“Who we are, is a collection of the choices we’ve made till this point but, who we are today is not who we have to be tomorrow” –Calvin “madeS.O.N. Early”
