Another prompt from the 52 Week Challenge. This one is charcoal drawing in which I use only charcoal brushes in my sketchbook preview program. It was fun experimenting with different brushes. Question for you is what kind of brushes should I experiment with next?

Week 8 October 25th: Creative Research

So after looking into more artists and having a bit of an emotional crisis, I started wondering about the fact that when I was doing my research, I brought my characters to my world and my reality. So I ended up deciding to flip the script. I decided to build a mini of myself as a character because I wanted to see what it would feel like for me.

To do this, I used the site hero forge, which lets you make custom mini's based on your character (https://www.heroforge.com). This was both fun and I will admit, a bit weird since I felt like I was trying to direct myself as a character and it was a lot for me to handle at times. Some of the features also didn't completely match how I actually look so sometimes I had to work around it. I ended up creating a decent impression of myself as a character and it was something interesting for me to explore. I did wonder if me being character meant that my identity is a separate persona from my characters or if my characters are just other persona fragments I work around and bring to life.

Week 3: September 20th: Creative Research. 

For this week, I figured out two different creative avenues to explore. One is altering a portrait of myself into a character with mixed media content. The other is to build a full character outfit out of pieces that can integrate into other outfits.

The reason why I wanted to explore these if because while I do want to make a video, I want to explore other avenues of media to see if those can work for the capstone.

I decided to explore the outfit creation first because I was planning on going to a Renfair for Creative Research and while I do have l an outfit prepared for that, I wanted to build a character and their life piece by piece since a large part of LARP is building a character and integrating them into the story and the world around them. So I wanted to make a character for real life.

I started on two different pieces. The first is a pair of knee length pants and the second is a kerchief like the one I made in my 7 days of making. For the kerchief and the pants I actually decided on making a mockup first as I made the kerchief too small and I was also going off of a pattern for my pants.

The mockup turned up fine for the kerchief and I do plan on making adjustments once I figure out the fit a bit more. For the pants, I actually needed to wait to get the pattern shipped to me, so I only have a few pieces of the mockup made. While I still am going to try this, long term this doesn't look great as a capstone project.
