Creating a double exposure image.
For this task I would be creating my own double exposure image. I went to Pexels.com. Here I am able to download photographs for free without copyright. This allowed me to get two photographs from different seasons when not actually of taken the photographs myself. I have copied both of the images into the same document so I could then experiment with the colours.
The image of the woman in the winter coat I turned down the Opacity just a little bit so the cherry blossom can be seen through her but only faintly.
Double clicking on my top layer brings up the layer style menu. Here there are loads of options to experiment with but I am only going to be switching the colours by checking and unchecking the RGB boxes. unchecking a box will highlight that colour.
Here I have unchecked the red box with only the green and the blue still ticked. This highlights the red which works well because it give a sense of changing from winter to spring. The tempature gets warmer, Which is why I have decided to use warm and cold colours.
This is my basic double exposed image but I can experiment further by creating a adjustment layer.
I selected, Selective colour. Here I could change the amout of a colour that is present.
For example adding in yellow to my image makes the photograph of the woman apear more red. Where the cherry blossom overlaps it creates a exposure which also makes that part appear red.
I turned down magenta and got this. I was originally only trying to focus on showing the seasons spring and winter but the part where the cherry blossom overlaps with the woman is now a shade of yellow. This makes me think of sunflowers which grow during the summer so now this double exposure edit is covering 3 of the seasons. I wonder if I could some how show autumn aswell so I could have a full cycle but I didn’t want to add too many colours to the photo.
I went to Adjustment<Brightness/Contrast so the image of the woman in the snow I could alter just a little bit because the snow is too bright.
I then decided that I actually prefered the image brightened up because it better showed the season and how it get warmer after winter.
For my second double exposure I have chosen two images from Pexels.com. One is a portrait of a woman and the other is a landscape of a woods.
First thing I did was change the portrait to be black and white. I did this by going Image<Adjustment<Black and white.
I altered the opacity of the portrait a bit so you can see it through the landscape.
i double clicked on the landscape I would then change the colour layers. Here I have check red and unchecked green and blue.
I create a adjustment layer to make the portrait blue. This would be exposed with the photo of the landscape.
Repeating all of the previously used techniques I created my third double exposure image.
