@exphcny liked for a starter.
“Is the sky really blue or is it clear?” Alvera wondered from her position on the floor, staring up at the ceiling as if it were the most important thing in the world right now. “If there’s so much clear does it always just become blue? Is the ocean blue because it’s reflecting the sky or is it just because all that clear makes it look blue?”
Adrianna nodded at the words a few times, not really having paid attention but understanding that the other girl was just having high thoughts. “I’m hungry!” She exclaimed suddenly, although she made no move to get up and go to the kitchen. “Do we have powdered donuts? Those would be really good right now.”

emily’s entire morning has been spent DREADING her meeting with quentin. there’s nothing to talk about, as she pointed out earlier. he left, they suffered. now he’s back, and for what? it almost doesn’t seem WORTH it to make amends when she and lucas spents months trying to put themselves back together. allowing quentin back into their life is also allowing him to leave them again. as soon as she sees him waiting at a table, emily’s heart flutters slightly. of course, she forces herself to ignore it. there’s no use in LOVING someone who’s just going to leave her again. “let’s make this quick,” she tells him quietly, taking a seat across from him. she almost can’t believe he’s actually in front of her, actually HERE again. “so,” she pauses, swallowing thickly as she tries to not get emotional in public. “what is it that you wanted to explain?”

Auden didn’t know why today felt different, why this school year felt like it wasn’t going to be like the others. She stayed settled in her car, head resting against the back of the seat, eyes scanning the number of kids who were making their way on campus. She didn’t want to be a senior, she didn’t want to be faced with this idea that she needed to decide what to do with her life. She spent all of her time in a small town, knowing she wanted to get out, but she couldn’t. Someone like her would never make it anywhere else, or at least that’s what her parents always told her. Her stream of consciousness was interrupted as her gaze caught a new face -- something that was relatively rare in their town. It couldn’t be someone new, could it? There was no way that boy would be going to her school.
