•Rosa Parks-not a quiet soul, but a woman wanting to be free so others could also be free. 1• Civil Rights activist, born February 4, 1913 refused to surrender her seat to a white passenger on a segregated Montgomery Alabama bus, which began the 381 day long Montgomery Bus Boycott. 2• Rosa was a devout Christian and found comfort and peace reading the Bible. Rosa felt as if she could stand up for rights just as the children of Israel stood up to the Pharaoh. 3• The General Motors Bus is on display at the Henry Ford Museum after being found in a field deteriorating and rusted. In 2002, Save America’s Treasures awarded the museum $205,000 to restore the bus. 4• President Obama sat on the same bus where Parks began the Montgomery Bus Boycott. President Obama also played a part in unveiling the statue of Rosa Parks in the National Statuary Hall of the U.S. Capitol on February 23, 2013.
