Development Association ADA has organized for the first time in Bacau, Romania, Yuri’s Night, placing the city of Bacau on the worldwide event list. In the memory of Yuri Gagarin and the first human spaceflight, Active Development Association held a themed evening on 11th April 2016, at Manhattan Pub & Pizza Bacau.
The evening started with a presentation about Yuri Gagarin’s life and activity, but also about the “Yuri’s Night” concept. Afterwards, the evening continued with the awarding of the participating students at the creative contest held by the Association. The contest had three sections - essay, visual arts, and plastic arts - and was intended for 5th to 12th grade students. The essay section had three themes: Astronomy and Mythology, Man in Space, and New Discoveries in Space , students having to choose one them. The other two sections of the contest had one main theme, the Universe, allowing students to use their imagination and be creative. The essay and the visual arts sections had each three winners, while the plastic arts section had only one winner.
The main moment of the evening was the presentation of the Solar System and of the main missions which helped us understand more about it. During the presentation, there were mentioned important details about our Solar System and its planets, aAs the date of 12th April marks one of the greatest human achievements of all times, Active nd then there were presented some of the major missions in space, such as Voyager 2, Cassini-Huygens, or Mars Curiosity.
After the presentation, there was an interactive contest for the participants at the event. They had to answer 15 questions about the Solar System, such as “how long does it take for the sun’s light to reach the Earth?” or “which galaxy is the closest one to Milky Way?”. The participants took the quiz in groups and had to answer the questions in maximum one minute. The winners of the interactive contest were rewarded with a free drink.The evening ended with watching a space-themed movie, the chosen one being “The Martian”.
Active Development Association is thanking the participants at this event, through which we could celebrate one of the moments which not only changed the world of the 20th century, but also had a major contribution to the evolution of the modern technology and society.
