First Class Railway Mutton (Lamb) Curry History Railway mutton curry or first class railway mutton (lamb) curry is a spicy Indian curry dish served in all “First Class” compartments on Indian trains. It is said that it was first introduced on the Frontier Mail (Golden Temple Mail) run by the Western Railway during pre-independence era. There are many popular stories on how railway mutton curry originated. The story goes that a drunken British officer stumbled into the railway kitchen during midnight. By that time the kitchen service was over and the cooks were making food for them. One such dish was the Calcutta Mangsho Jhol or Bengali mutton curry known for its fiery and spicy taste. The British didn’t appreciate such spicy taste and the dish was changed from a spicy curry to a subtle one by adding coconut milk and yogurt. Such was the taste that the officer included it on the train’s food menu, and fondly called it the Railway Mutton Curry. The officer found the mutton curry very delicious and from that day it was served on the First Class Compartments of the Indian Railways. *Mangshor Jhol – Bengali Mutton Curry The second version retells the story with an English army officer travelling in a train. Whatever the story be, the Railway Mutton curry is one of the most popular non-veg curries of India. It is a less-spicy version of the classic Bengali mutton curry (Mangshor Jhol), with coconut milk. It is served with plain rice or bread. ~ Erik Baji Treasuryvala #muttoncurry , #mangshorjhol ,#Railwaymuttoncurry , #Goldentemplemail, #frontiermail , #loveforfood, #food, #foodbeast, #tryitordiet, #foodmaniacindia, #eatorpass, #mumbaifoodblogger, #mumbaifoodexplorer, #exploringplates, #foodiedilse, #indianfoodiye, #thecutsteve, #cookingdiary, #designedbite, #yummyfoods, #chompeatery,#Likes , #Likeforfollow , #like4like ,#follow4follow , #Followforfollow ,#commentforcommentback , #comment4comment , #followers,
