Edgar leaned against the front doorway, without a single care that the door to his house was wide open. If he weren’t so concerned, he would have been ecstatic to have Emmeline coming over to his home. Plus, by the looks of things, his daughter was going to spend the night. And that was all very nice, but he was worried. Too worried to bask in that excitement.
Amelia had said something about owling Emmeline, and that’s why he was just hanging by the door, waiting to see the young witch make her way to his house. What if she didn’t come? Would he get in trouble because he had his daughter overnight? What if the Ministry found out? Would Amelia be deemed unfit to continue to have custody over Dora? What would they do then? Would Oliver step in then?
Her timing was impeccable, and as soon as the thought crossed his mind, he saw Emmeline turning the corner of the street, her features twisted into a scowl. He waited for her to cross the boundary of the house arrest spell before pushing himself off the threshold so she could walk into the house. “By the look on your face, you’ve no idea what’s going on either.” He was hoping that she did. Maybe he’d try phoning Mia again later.
