He had rules when it came to being within the castle walls, ones that he normally didn’t bother adhering to. Moreso for Thea’s sake than his own, he could handle himself, but he didn’t want her to catch wind of the violence that he’d leave in his wake. There weren’t a whole lot of vampires openly running around the empire, if someone wound up drained of blood, it wouldn’t be a stretch to blame the one that bothered showing up to court. He’d allow this one time, this one act of spite. Besides, it might be dangerous to head home without feeding anyways. Rather a bite here and there than a whole body, right?
Besides, he’d been well behaved for a while. Far more careful than usual, which was saying something considering Tenea’s sheriff-less state. There was no one to report him, he was almost certain a death of a citizen within the empire’s walls would be waved off. Hell, it’d please Gavyn at least. Would be about time he did something to do the bastard proud in the last few years.
“It’d be helpful if you’d just come back.” The thought crossed his mind as his fangs sunk just above the collar of the young guard he’d cornered’s armor. Go back to be something useful, go back and teach newborns to either shape up or be slaughtered. Help acquire more wealth, more power, be involved in politics. That wasn’t the freedom he was after, not the one he’d been promised.
This felt better, familiar, made him feel like himself, the tang of copper filling his mouth, a rapid heartbeat that he didn’t recognize ringing in his ears. Less than a minute and he was pulling away and mumbling the usual compulsion. Poor bastard fell asleep on the job and he wasn’t about to be the only one. @bloodfurious
