     after adding a touch of red to ranunculae’s cheeks, he turns to face magnolia, a small glimmer of hope in his eyes that maybe, just  M A Y B E ,  her half of the pact is finished.

“MAGNOLIA!” Nevy exclaims, practically throwing herself at her host. She wrapped her arms around Maggie’s neck from behind, drawing her in close. Nevy rested her chin on the other’s shoulder as she talked. Regardless of any others present, she demanded attention. “Listen to me!!! I think I remember something- maybe, almost- and we need to go back, now!”

A part of him has always held a certain amount of hatred towards Hellawez. Yet he always finds himself back here because her and her alone. There’s nothing for most people here in Hellawez. Up until fairly recently, he would’ve been among those people. Now he looks forward to the time he has to come back and pay her a visit. Unannounced, loud, and most likely unwelcome- it’s just his style. This time, he’d be making his appearance in the church where he had been told his love would be.

The cathedral doors are thrown open and there he finds his mark. Of course he startles the other patrons of the church and maybe even disrupts a prayer or two. But who cares? His primary goal was to surprise- maybe even scare the shit out of- his girlfriend.

     “Yo, Teresa, babe!”

The pet name he knows causes a small upset with people in the church but he likes to think that embarrassment comes with the territory of dating him. He walks along the aisle between the seats. Covered in scrapes and bruises, he definitely doesn’t look like he belongs in the church. Although being a Legate does keep the questions away.

     “Thought I’d surprise ya- got some time?”

     the flowers are  d y i n g .  he can’t for the life of him figure out why. no matter how much magic he pours into the earth, they keep wilting in his hands. some even become so brittle that the wind turns them to dust. the fairies are nowhere to be seen. he misses the sound of their  l a u g h t e r .

     everything is... dull. the grass is no longer green, the roses more white than blue. he finds dead, decaying vines nearly encasing the portraits of ranunculae, and removing them peels the paint away from the canvas.
