- Any Major Dude Will Tell You - Steely Dan possibly my all time favorite song, and the namesake of this blog, which I almost certainly wouldn’t know if not for my dad

13) three songs that you want at your funeral --turns out i couldn’t narrow it down to three but: 

honestly any major dude but i already mentioned that one earlier so 

uhhh this is specific but this cover of heaven by the talking heads. it’s by Flyte 

maybe ain’t afraid to die by dir en grey. i have cried my eyes out to this song so many times... wouldn’t mean anything to anyone there probably, because i won’t be there, and it’s all in japanese lmao, but maybe if presented with a lyric translation somehow... i don’t know. just a beautiful, beautiful song, and it means so much to me, honestly this band is so powerful and skilled they do beautifully communicating the meaning even if you can’t understand the words. give it a listen. i couldn’t find a version on youtube with subtitles i felt were accurate enough so i’m attaching this translation separately

i will by the beatles to me personally this song is about soulmates. they don’t have to be romantic soulmates. there are just some people who you will always be close to in each life, whether they be family or friends or lovers each time around. this is another one of my all time favorite songs.

champagne: what topic could you talk about for hours?

Taskmaster and (anything related to Bitcom really, but I got this question twice so I’ll give different answers...) Radio 4 panel shows

gold: describe what you would call the most perfect meal.

If I could gather all my friends, in Edinburgh, so we could have all the pizza and cake and all the laughs... That would be perfect.

penthouse: what would you consider your dream home? describe it.

Just somewhere where I could fit all my pets! =P Nothing too big or too small. I just want them to have space and be happy.

satin: what is your most favorite article of clothing?

It’s a blue jacket I got from the United States Olympic Committee while I was working at the Olympics. It’s really gorgeous, it says USA at the back and the sleeves are really long and they have holes so I can poke my thumbs through! 

wine: what kind of drunk are you (happy/affectionate, angry, sad, fun/wild)? if you don’t drink, what kind do you think you WOULD be?

I used to be a happy/fun drunk! But thanks to my epilepsy pills, I can’t drink anymore... Now I’m a sad sober person... =(

1) Who did you first come out to, if anyone? 

My group of friends in high school were wonderful, a group of juniors who took in a terrified freshman and looked out for me. I think one day at the lunch table Hannah and Mary were talking about being pan and bi and about how they were treated for holding hands together in the hallways. I don’t actually think they were together at the time, that was just something they did, maybe to take the temperature of the school and decide how safe or unsafe it was to be Out out. The conversation felt so safe and normalized that I was comfortable enough to say, yeah, i think that’s a label that describes my experience pretty well, and they took it in stride, because of course they did, they were wonderful people. I wonder where they are now? Anyway I think that was the first time I said out loud to anyone that i didn’t think I was totally straight. 

2) Favorite LGBT singer/instrumentalist? 

Easy, Will Toledo. Car Seat Headrest. And my recent discovery: Sera Cahoone. I love her

8) What is your favorite color? 

My favorite colors shift all the time because i love to paint but the color i am consistently most drawn to is red!! I like red clothes and red shoes and red accessories. i think i have more than five different red sweaters. I don’t mean I’m a wall of red walking around all the time, it’s more like you can usually find something red on me at any given time even if it’s subtle. lol. The “life” stripe of the pride flag <3

12) Favorite LGBT artist/writer? 

Artist, probably Frida Kahlo. Writer, maybe Walt Whitman? Not to pick a dead old white guy who was probably a racist as my favorite, but Leaves of Grass changed my life and how i thought about poetry and the blatantly revisionist way gay poetry is interpreted by academics. I used to copy stanzas from it into my sketchbook, to practice my handwriting, to play with typography, write from it just for an excuse to cry, etc. Edna St Vincent Millay, too. 

18) Favorite LGBT film or actor? 

It’s Xavier Dolan’s movie I Killed My Mother; I talk about it all the time and what I always say is it’s the best movie I’ve ever seen and I won’t watch it again until at least ten years have gone by because it destroyed me. If you have any kind of a fraught relationship with your mom watch with care. It’s an unbelievable movie, written by, directed by, and starring a gay man about a gay boy’s experience. I bawled my face off, it’s so, so beautifully shot.

My best friend’s dad has written a porno. When you say a porno do you mean a script for a film? An erotic novel. He read, as he calls it “50 Colours of Grey” and thought he could do better and he’s retired now so he just thought “what the heck?”
