Semi Final 1 Review
Okay that was a ROLLERCOASTER. I'm going to go through each act, what I thought of it and if I thought the result was fair. This is going to be LONG. Out of my pre-made list, 8/10 of the acts I predicted to go through did so I'm pretty happy. If it was up to me they'd all be going through to be honest😂
1. Albania: Eugent Bushpepa - Mall
Alright, I made a top 10 a while ago, but BOY has it changed since then. Albania's song is EASILY in my top 5, maybe even top 3. I love this song so much. Eugent, as always, slayed this performance. He was my favourite for the whole semi final and I voted for him more times than I care to admit. I was worried for him, I'll be honest, but now I know I should have never doubted him. He was amazing, I'm so proud of him and he deserved to go through.
2. Armenia: Sevak Khangyan - Qami
If you've seen my top 10, you'll know I put this at number 10. I really rated this song. I thought Sevak really gave it his all in the semi final and thought he'd sail through fine. I am so sad to see that he hasn't gone through. He really did deserve it.
3. Austria: Cesár Sampson - Nobody But You
Cesár performed this PERFECTLY. This song was also in my top 10, so when I heard that he's made it I was so happy. This is a really REALLY good song, and I am excited to see this in the final.
4. Azerbaijan: Aisel - X My Heart
I never rated this song before tonight and I still don't rate it afterwards. I already knew it wasn't going to go through. She sings it well, and she looks lovely, just the song is really uninspiring. Sorry.
5. Belarus: Alekseev - Forever
DON'T EVEN TOUCH ME. Alekseev didn't deserve this! The performance was great. The staging was so creative, yet he doesn't get through? I am in shock to be honest. He was high in my top 10, I rated this song a lot and still do. I'm very sad he hasn't made it to the final.
6. Belgium: Sennek - A Matter Of Time
I really thought this was another one that would go through. I thought this song was really good, however I think the staging kind of let her down. Sennek is so talented. It's a shame we don't see Belgium in the final this year.
7. Bulgaria: Equinox - Bones
I predicted this to go through, and it did. I'm not mad on this song, but I can certainly see the appeal and it was performed pretty well. Not quite Kristian Kostov though.
8. Croatia: Franka - Crazy
I knew this wouldn't go through really. It's a pretty mediocre song, even though Franka has a brilliant voice. It's just sort of... meh. I love the bass, but that's about it. No surprises for me that it's a NQ.
9. Cyprus: Eleni Foureira - Fuego
I think there was no doubt Cyprus was going through. The energy was unreal when she performed. I can't dance at all yet I was up trying to do what she was doing. A great performance, Eleni is stunning and I think this will do very well.
10. Czech Republic: Mikolas Josef - Lie To Me
MY BOY MIKOLAS. Man, am I glad Mikolas is through. If there's anyone who deserves it, it's him. Pre-injury I had zero doubts in my mind that this was going through. It's in my top 3 for a reason. When I heard about Mikolas' injury I got super worried that because he couldn't move so much people would feel like his performance would fall flat a bit but boy, was I wrong. Mikolas BROUGHT IT tonight. Still so charismatic, Lie To Me is still a bop and I am really cheering Mikolas on.
11. Estonia: Elina Nechayeva - La Forza
Again, I think there was no doubt that this was going through. Elina is stunning, the dress is stunning and her voice doesn't falter once. Opera isn't my thing, but there's really something special about this. I get goosebumps when I listen to her, which can only be a good thing.
12. Finland: Saara Aalto - Monsters
Oh my goodness, Saara is slaying! She's amazing, her vocals are fantastic and the staging is so cool. I really enjoy Monsters, I think it can do really well, and I look forward to seeing Saara on the stage in the final.
13. F.Y.R Macedonia: Eye Cue - Lost and Found
When I first heard this song a few months ago, I thought it sounded pretty good. What let it down tonight was the staging and her performance. It doesn't surprise me they didn't get through.
14. Greece: Yianna Terzi - Oniro Mou
I know a LOT of people rated this, but I never really connected with it. It wasn't a surprise to me it hasn't gone through. Yeah, not for me.
15. Iceland: Ari Ólafsson - Our Choice
I really love Ari. I think he's adorable and actually, I like this song. He performs this song so perfectly, with a beautiful smile on his face. However, I knew others didn't like this song, so no matter how much I liked it and love Ari, I kind of knew he wasn't going through. Still, I'm upset for him.
16. Ireland: Ryan O'Shaughnessy - Together
I really do love this song, and I think Ryan is cutie. I'm not just saying this because Ireland are our neighbours, but this deserved to go through. Ryan's vocals were flawless, the staging is beautiful and it'll be a lovely break from a bunch of pop songs. Happy for Ireland!
17. Israel: Netta - Toy
We all knew this was going through to the final. As usual, Netta slayed and I am quite excited to see where this comes in the final.
18. Lithuania: Ieva Zasimauskaitė - When We're Old
I did NOT expect this song to get through at all. To be honest, I think this song is dull, even though when he husband rocks up I do get a little goosebumpy feeling, which is cute. Other than that, there's other songs I would have put through instead of this.
19. Switzerland: ZiBBZ - Stones
I liked this song, but I kind of knew in this tough semi final that it wouldn't go through. Definitely a strong performance, just unfortunately didn't make it on the night. Vocals and visuals were great though.
And that is it! What a great semi final :-)
