Customer feedback about LAUNCH ICARSCAN OBD2 CODE READER

I just played around with LAUNCH ICARSCAN for the last hour testing various functionality. I installed it for iOS and had zero issues. I used the QR code to download the first application (EZdiag), input myserial number & activation code from the paper slip, selected my “8 pieces of free software”, then went to full system scan and selected Porsche and it downloaded a second application called “US&Euro car”. The second app launches automatically when you’re ready to scan a vehicle.

As far as functionality, I was able to read and communicate with all of the major modules with no problems. I played around with viewing various real time values and scanning the modules for errors (had a handful of meaningless errors). There are very minimal coding options available on the ICARSCAN , but there are a few. I think once upon a time someone was asking about headlight programming. There is an option to code a ballast as “left”, “right”, or “new control unit” as well as calibrate them. Not sure how any of it works, but it’s there.

I also have the iCarSoft i960 so can provide a brief comparison with that. Both units read real time values from the various modules just fine. There’s too many to compare to know if one reads more than the other. The i960 does not provide the Porsche specific error codes on the various modules. The i960 also can not reset the service interval, whereas LAUNCH ICARSCAN resets the service interval like a champ. The i960 is self contained and a little quicker to get going (no BT pairing), while the icarscan obd2 code reader feels a little snappier changing menus. The big bonus is the X431 works on many more vehicles.

If you are installing Icarscan APP (ezdiag) and software in android system , please pay attention to the above points.

1. If you install Icarscan through scanning the QR code, please do not use the software like QQ or WeChat to scan the APP. Be sure to scan the installation with a web browser.

2. If you encounter the following error information, the software is not fully installed.

When the software download is complete, please do not click "installing” on the image as below. The system will be installed automatically. No human operation is required. If you click "installing”, the software will stop installing and it will not work properly.

The correct operation is shown below, and the system will be installed automatically. Don’t click "installing” with your hands.

If you click "installing”, the installation will stop.

Then you need to delete the APP and the software and reinstall it.

3. The methods to remove software are as follows:

<1> You have to connect your phone with computer

<2> Remove the cnlaunch folder from your phone. <3> Delete "EZdiag” APP. <4> Reinstall "EZdiag” APP and follow step 2 to download each car software and special function.

The most important point is software can install automatically. Cannot be clicked ” installing ” during software installation.

4.The language of your phone must correspond to your software language. If your phone’s language is different from the software language, it will cause the software fail to install.

5. If you encounter the following problem, it is also because the software is not installed. So there will be two versions of the software.

<1> You have to connect your phone with computer

<2> Remove the cnlaunch folder from your phone. <3> Delete "EZdiag” APP. <4> Reinstall "EZdiag” APP and follow step 2 to download each car software and special function.

6. You Can’t use two mobile phone bluetooth connection ICARSCAN at the same time: if a mobile phone bluetooth has been connected to ICARSCAN, another phone’s bluetooth will not be able to find the ICARSCAN.

LAUNCH X431 ICARSCAN OBD2 Code Reader and VPECKER Easydiag Testing report

LAUNCH ICARSCAN and Vpecker Easydiag , which one is a better OBD2 fault code reader ? One of our customer has tested both and make a comparison of Vpecker easydiag wifi diagnostic scanner and LAUNCH ICARSCAN OBD2 Scanner (Super LAUNCH X431 IDIAG Update Version) on Several Models.

Functions To be Honest, LAUNCH X431 ICARSCAN OBD2 Code Reader have a lot more options on that car then vpecker, for example on engine it can only read few parameters and it can read and clear trouble codes thats it nothing else on engine not even dpf regeneration, idiag have more to offer for that car, I tested on few more cars. I think what is can do more with special functions is for Toyota, Honda, Scion. But since it is original OBD2 code reader and softwar price is ok for it. It can do newest cars till 2017, software support online update. It can free to select 5 brand car software with 3 special functions, if you want to extra software, price is 39USD per brand ( Cost $158 ) So for now vpecker OBD2 scanner is good because it can do multi-brand cars. But software for this scanner is older. I think it is good for older cars. Price is $159, the functions are close to Delphi Autocom, but it is limited to do special functions.

I should say, each one have its own merits and demerits, but both Vpecker Easydiag and LAUNCH ICARSCAN are good work till now. It is a successful purchase from China.

Is ICARSCAN same or old version of LAUNCH X431 Easydiag ?

LAUNCH X431 Easydiag 2.0 is basically the same OBD-II Bluetooth device - but the software supplied with it is different - and the way it's sold is different.

Easydiag 2.0 is without ANY vehicle/manufacturer specific diagnostics capability. As delivered it will do just OBD-II and some ABS diagnostics. Generic OBD-II. It won't read the 30 or so modules in your Cayenne.

To get it to do that - you have to purchase the software for Porsche - which includes ALL Porsche cars. As someone mentioned - that's about another $50, so you're in at about $100 to JUST read Porsche codes. If you want additional vehicle manufacturers (all your cars aren't Porsches) - each manufacturer will cost you another $50. So - the adaptor and 2 cars costs the same as the ICarScan one - which includes in the $158/price - the ability to choose 5 different car manufacturers and 3 special functions. ICARSCAN replacement LAUNCH X431 IDIAG , LAUNCH X431 Easydiag 2.0, LAUNCH M-DIAG Elite.

So that's why not-really and no. But sorta.

Which is best for you? Dunno. At the time I bought mine - the Launch tool (made by the company that writes the software running on the ICarScan ) wasn't readily available.

I only know one person who bought the one from Launch - and he seems happy with it. If you notice - there are versions of it available for around $80 that include 2 vehicle manufacturer's diagnostics. That's not a bad deal either.

I haven't worked with that tool, and haven't tried the software. I know from seeing it - the software has some differences from the ICarScan software. Dunno if the differences are simply cosmetic or significant. If someone wants to buy one and send it to me I could do a side by side comparison. That might be interesting.
