It had been months since Y/N’s passing and Dean was finally back from being within Michael’s mind prison. How? Sam had no clue. He was just happy to have his brother back, but yet, also griefed with the burden of having to present him with the letter she had left. A bittersweet moment.
“Dean, I have a letter for you,” Sam sighed as he handed the envelope to his older brother, Y/N’s handwriting along the outside.
“I don’t want that,” Dean gruffed back.
“Why?”
“Because it’s a goodbye letter, and I’m going to figure out how to bring her back,” Dean replied like it was another milk run. “It’s my fault she’s dead and-“
“And what Dean!” Sam snapped back. “You think we haven’t looked for a way? There is no way!”
“I’ve looked,” Cas spoke up with solemness. “Her presence, it’s gone. She’s not in heaven, hell, purgatory, or anywhere that can be touched.”
“She’s somewhere,” Dean gruffed back. “People don’t just disappear. We’ve all died a million times and we’ve come back. That’s the way it has been.”
“Maybe it’s the way it should be,” Sam breathed out deeply.
“You shut your mouth,” Dean growled while pointing hard at Sam. “She belongs here. It’s my fault and I have to fix this.”
“Dean,” Sam sighed. “It’s not your fault. It was Michael and-“
“No, it was me who plunged the knife into her!”
“Dean I-“ Sam started to mutter but could not find the words. He didn’t know it was him nor why.
“She put the blade in my hand and I stabbed her!”
“She put the blade in your hand?” Cas spoke up, his eyes furrowed with intrigue.
“Yes, and you know the screwed up part?” Dean growled. “She said ‘I’ll see you soon’. Like what the hell am I supposed to do with that but find a way to get her back!”
“You’re her weakness,” Cas spoke up again. “Gabriel- he showed us.”
“Cas-“
“She knew, she knew that if you did it, it would be final,” Cas revealed with a grim sigh.
“It’s not final,” Dean breathed out. “It can’t be.”
“Here,” Sam handed him the letter again. “Just- just read it. Hopefully it will give you answers.”
Sam walked out with Cas, hoping that Dean would listen to them. Y/N was gone and she meant it to be.
“You know she probably saved us all?” Cas spoke to Sam.
“What do you mean?” Sam questioned him.
“Michael. He was trying to make more of her. Those bodies… what we found when we got Dean back. He must have known… she must have known what he would do if he were to have her.”
“Selfless to the end,” Sam sighed. “I just wish she would have told us sooner.”
“Would you have let her?” Cas looked up to Sam.
He was right; he wouldn’t have. He knew what losing her meant to him, but most of all, what it meant to Dean. This was killing him and this was one case he didn’t think could ever be solved.
_____
Dean sat in his room in silence, holding the letter in his hand steadily. Tears formed in his eyes as he rubbed his fingers along his name. He didn’t want to open it. Opening it meant that it was real; she was gone. With a deep breath he carefully undid the glue that held the envelope together and pulled out the letter. Even the paper smelled like her; orchards, jasmine, and something sweet he could never name. He smiled while the tear fell down on the paper as he opened it.
My Dearest Dean,
I know what needed to be done was not fair to you. I could have done it a million different ways, but… I couldn’t go without seeing you, the real you one last time. If I had stayed, all we loved would have been lost. Death had shown me and it would have been Michael eventually to end my life; but not before hurting everyone that we both love. I know it’s a character flaw, but one that I know you understand too well. I cannot let those I love be hurt when I could stop it. I’m sorry it had to be you, but it was the only way for sure that I knew that he could never touch me.
All our lives we’ve known each other, without knowing. Fate played its part in keeping us together; while others moved to tear us apart. That’s why I trust that someday, we will be together again. I don’t know when or where that will be, but I have faith in it.
Please live your life and continue to protect our family. They will need you now more than ever. There is still work to be done and someday, when it is your time, I will see you again somewhere over the rainbow. Someplace that we call home.”
Yours Truly,
in this world and the next,
Y/N
_________
Two years later-
Dean opened his eyes, the sun blinding him as they focused and he was met with the most spectacular view he had ever seen. The endless blue sky, the green pastures and mountains in the distance, it was all breathtaking.
“Well, at least I made it to Heaven,” Dean smiled.
“Yep,” a familiar voice spoke up, startling him.
Dean walked around towards the voice and saw Bobby, sitting on a chair in front of 'Harvelle's Roadhouse'.
“What memory is this?”
“It ain't, ya idjit,” Bobby laughed.
“Yeah, it is,” Dean stated as walked and looked at the roadhouse. “Cause the last I heard, you... you were in Heaven's lock-up.
“Was.”
“Now I'm not.”
“That kid of yours, before he went... wherever, made some changes here. Busted my ass out. And then he…” Dean sat down next to him, still in disbelief. “Well, he set some things right. Tore down all the walls up here. Heaven ain't just reliving your golden oldies anymore. It's what it always should have been. Everyone happy. Everyone together. Rufus lives about 5 miles that way... With Aretha.
Thought she'd have better taste. And your mom and dad... they got a place over yonder. It ain't just Heaven, Dean. It's the Heaven you deserve.
And we've been waiting for you.”
Bobby moved to open a cooler between their chairs and pull out a couple of beers. He hands one over to Dean as he opens his own.
“So, Jack did all that?” Dean asked.
“Well... Cas helped. It's a big, new world out there. You'll see.”
Dean shook his head in satisfaction as he pulled the bottle to his lips.
“Oh, wow. This tastes like the first drink I ever shared with my dad.”
“Quality stuff?”
“No, it's crap,” Dean laughed. “But it was fantastic.”
“Just like this?”
Dean felt the ping of sadness as he remembered his last earthly moment. Sam telling him it was okay. Telling him to let go.
“It's almost perfect.”
“He'll be along,” Bobby informed him, almost as though he could read his thoughts.”Time up here, it's... it's different. You got everything you could ever want... or need or... dream.”
Dean took a deep breath and sighed. It was all almost perfect. All he could ever want or dream. He knew what that was, or rather who. But instead of seeing her, he was having a beer with her father.
“So, I guess the question is... what are you gonna do now, Dean?”
Dean glanced over at Bobby who moved his gaze off to the front of them with a smile. Dean's eyes followed his and saw her. Baby sitting there pretty parked along the road.
“I think I'll go for a drive,” Dean smiled before getting up from his spot and moving towards her.
“Have fun.”
“Hey, baby,” he stated as he approached her, looking at her with pride that she made it too.
“Hey back there,” he heard another voice state.
Dean whipped himself around to see Y/N standing there with Baby’s keys.
“What? Did you think it was the car talking to you?” she laughed. “Ya idjit.”
“Y/N,” he rushed over and gripped her up tight, lifting her off the ground in the process in a spinning motion.
As he set her back down he couldn’t believe his eyes. It was her. Y/N. The smile could not be torn off of his face.
“How?” he breathed out.
“Like I said,” he turned his gaze back to Bobby who was now walking up with a woman who looked like Y/N next to him, his arm draped around her shoulder. “It’s the heaven you deserve.”
Dean continued to smile as he turned back to Y/N and gave her the biggest kiss he had ever had.
“Now you make sure you bring her back at a decent time, ya hear?” Bobby spoke up again, causing Dean to pull away from the kiss with a raised brow.
“Bobby?” he chuckled as he motioned around him.
“Nothing crazy, just before the next century,” Bobby chuckled back.
“Thanks dad,” Y/N smiled as she handed Dean the keys. “Let’s go old man. Live for once.”
“I plan on it,” he smiled back as the two of them entered the car and drove off with nothing but the road ahead. His home and his heart all in the same spot. The perfect ending
I hope you all enjoyed this. Leave the love if you will.❤️❤️

“I have a proposition for you.”
It has been a little over a week and you were back on campus, sitting in front of Dr. Frankel, your new boss. Things were coming together at the bunker, but some of the younger people from the other world were having difficulty adjusting to the new life. Or rather, the lack of things trying to murder them at any moment. The older ones as well, but Mary had them handled. There was a need for structure. Discipline. Knowledge. You knew just the place.
“Jack?” He spoke with a smirk. “Bringing him to us?”
“No,” you spoke firmly. “Another deal.”
“So you’re breaking the last one and now you want a new one? So why should I bargain with you? I see no reason to trust this would be of any use to us.”
“Lucifer is gone, is he not? And because there’s people that need our help,” you replied. “That is what you do here is it not?”
“For our kind,” he grumbled. “Not theirs, especially ones not of this world.”
“You know already, hmm?” He nodded in reply. Guess you couldn’t hide much from the head of Monster U. “They’re kids, college aged, who came back from the other world. They need help in this world. They need to be watched.”
“And you want to bring them here?” His eyes squeezed with disbelief. “Why?”
“Because you want to build a better future for those that are different? Isn’t that correct? Those who people would fear? Wouldn’t a group of kids from another world count? I mean, they do come with their own special skill set and knowledge…”
“And what would I get out of this?” His light shifted. He was intrigued.
“They know how to fight. All of them. They’ve battled worse than you could ever know, and survived. If anything comes to your doors, they’re the ones you want on your side. They've also seen what happens to your kind when you’re not fed properly or kept in line.”
“An alliance?” He replied. “Their safety for the future of ours?”
“Yes.”
“This also means that you would have to be here more permanently as well to watch that no one goes… astray.”
“I will watch them, teach them to understand the world. I just need a place to keep them close. To keep them safe. The world can be cruel to those who are different. Wouldn’t you agree?”
“And Jack?”
“He is being watched by the best.”
“The Winchester’s you mean?” He smirked. “That’s not so assuring for our kind.”
“My kind too,” you replied. “They’re teaching him to use his powers for good. To be a good person. He’s adjusting at the moment. Learning who he is. He needs to be around people he trusts. That's the Winchesters.”
“And if they fail?”
“Well, you did just agree to help protect an army under my watch,” you smiled. “I haven’t broken my promise from before. I am handling it. But take this deal and he will see it as an act of truce between us. Wouldn’t you feel more at ease with the son of the devil on your side rather than against? Be a smart man. Take the deal.”
_____
“Hey,” Dean spoke into his phone as he answered its ring.
“We have a deal,” Y/N responded. “I’m on my way back for them all.”
“I still think you're crazy,” he laughed into the receiver.
“Not certifiable yet,” she laughed back. “Although I have agreed to marry you.”
“Hey now,” he smiled. “That’s the smartest decision you’ve ever made so far.”
“Anyways, I’ll be back in a couple hours. How’s Sam doing with the world lessons?”
“They’re all playing on google, getting lost on pinterest, YouTube,” he listed off.
“So completely normal things huh?” She giggled. “They’re adjusting?”
“Mostly,” he said as he looked over to Jack’s door, sulking alone in his room ever since they returned. “I’ll see you soon.”
Jack, the one person he didn’t know how to help. He couldn’t help. He was plagued by the loss of his father, his true father. He couldn’t bring back Lucifer. There was no way he would ever risk that, not that it was even likely he was still alive with Michael in the other world. Michael. The thought of him brought shivers down his spine. No, they could never go back. He couldn’t allow it.
___
“Hey there Doc,” you heard a familiar voice state as you walked down the stairs.
“Hey Bobby,” you smiled. “How’s it going?”
“Trying to figure out this apple thing they handed me,” he replied with a phone in his hand. “Why couldn’t they just give me an android like a normal person? Idjits.”
You laughed at the word idjits. Yup, it was a Bobby thing alright. This world and others alike. The last week had been insightful overall into the man whose face and spirit matched your fathers. He was warm and kind, but easily agitated and took no shit. Just like you. Although this Bobby had no daughter of his own, that didn’t stop him from treating you just as a father would. Giving you advice and just listening to you talk about your life. It was nice. He even offered to walk you down the aisle if Dean finally got the balls to ask you. His words, not yours. You didn’t tell him yet. No one knew. It had been an agreement between you and Dean while trying to figure out how to help everyone. Waiting a few weeks before giving the news. Giving you time to know the family that you never had.
“Well give it time,” you chuckled. “You’ll figure it out.”
You walked past Sam who was helping some of the people with operating their phones. He saw you enter and smiled at you as you walked through. Just a normal day home. You continued to walk to Dean’s room where you knew he was probably hiding out in.
“Hey there gorgeous,” you smiled as you entered the room. He smiled back as he continued to load his duffel bag that laid on his bed. You wrapped arms around his abdomen as he loaded his gun.
“What’s happening?”
“Werewolves,” he replied. “A couple miles out. They got a couple that were camping.”
“Need help?” You offered.
“Sam, Cas, and I are taking Jack to train him. Teach him how to be a hunter. To use his powers for good. Get him out of his room.”
“Is he still having trouble with it all?”
“Wouldn’t you?”
“I mean I did,” you teased. “I didn’t exactly take the news of being born from monsters lightly.”
“Maybe you could talk to him?”
“Therapy session for the son of satan?” You teased with a roll of your eyes. Honestly, the thought intrigued, yet scared the hell out of you.
“No, person to person. Someone who understands. Maybe that will help.”
“I’ll try,” you agreed. “But there is no telling what is going on in that mind of his Dean. He was born of pure evil.”
“He’s half human too,” Dean spoke up. “Just like you. You're a good person Y/N. If anyone can reach him, it’s going to be you.”
You agreed to talk to him. A task you had been avoiding the last week. You didn’t want to talk to him. He scared the shit out of you although he was just a child. An innocent child confused in the world. As you approached his door Gabriel’s words came to your memory. ‘Not everything that looks like a monster is.’
“Jack,” you called through the door after you knocked softly. “Can I come in?”
The door slowly opened. His blue eyes stared at you with puzzlement. This was the first time you had talked to him. Of course he wouldn’t understand.
“Hey,” you smiled. “I thought it was time we talked.”
He nodded as he moved over to let you in. His room was similar to the others, just a little more empty. No real possessions, just him. Lonely. That was the only way to describe it. The way you had felt most of your life.
“We need to get you a poster or something in here,” you giggled nervously, unsure how to start the conversation without sounding like you were interrogating him.
“Of what?”
“I don’t know,” you shrugged. “Musicians. Movies. Do you like movies?”
“Dean has shown me a couple.”
“What’s your favorite?”
“Favorite?” His eyes squeezed together.
“Yeah, which one did you like the most? Feel connected to?”
He took a pregnant pause as he contemplated his answer. You were hopeful that Dean actually showed him some classics and not that smut he hid under his bed.
“Star Wars ,” he replied with a smile.
“Star Wars? Okay,” you chuckled. “Favorite character?”
“Luke,” he nodded with a smile.
“Why Luke?”
“Because he fights evil,” he said so innocently. “He protects people. With the force.”
“Sounds just like someone else I know,” you smiled.
“Who?” He asked with a tilt of his head.
“You.”
“How so?”
“We’ll look at you,” you said as you leaned up against his empty desk. “You have Dean as Han Solo. Sam is definitely chewy. Cas could be your Obi Wan, or Yoda. You're also powerful. You have your own force, and you’ve chosen to do good with it, right?”
“You mean not going darkside?” He said with annoyance in his voice. “That’s what Dean has called it.”
“Well, can you blame him?”
“I’m not like my father,” he shot you a hard look. His light shone bright. He was sincere. For the first time, you felt an ease to your worries.
“And neither was Luke. In fact, Luke defeated him in Jedi, remember?”
“Yes,” his eyes diverted to the ground.
“Look, I know it’s difficult not knowing who your parents really are and only hearing from others what they were like,” you spoke softly. “And there’s no way to really fix that. Nothing anyone can say or do.”
“So what do I do?”
“You be good,” you smiled softly. “And strong. Be the type of person that makes your family proud:”
“My family?”
“Us Jack,” you replied. “Sam, Dean, Cas, and everyone else. We are your family. Family isn’t just the people who made you, it’s the ones who are there for you even when time seems the darkest. They love you and want you to be the best version of you.”
“What is the best version of me?”
“Only you can answer that Jack,” you smiled.
“My father,” he spoke slowly. “He did try to help us. After everything, all the stories, he did try”.
You swallowed the pit that you felt stuck in your throat as he brought him up. You wanted to argue that his intentions were impure, but you couldn’t. That was probably the one and only time the devil’s act of selfishness ever helped anyone.
“He did,” you nodded with a tight lipped smile.
“So if he could be good, there’s hope for everyone?”
You watched the hope in his eyes for your response. He needed that hope, if only to continue being on your side. The right side.
“Hey, look at me,” you chuckled. “Blood of monsters and all sorts of witchy crap. If there’s hope for me, there’s hope for you.”
________
“Going already?” Dean gruffed as you helped the kids get their stuff together.
“Soon,” she replied as you handed a bag back to Liza, one of the girls that was a bit older than the others.
“I should come with you,” he stated.
“You have your wolf hunt to get to,” she responded. “Besides, I’ll be busy with everything else going on. Helping the kids get settled. I’ll probably even help them get some stuff like clothes and that for their room.”
“Look at you being all motherly there,” Dean chuckled.
“Hey there,” she shot him a look. “Don’t get any ideas there.”
“I’m not,” he shook his head. “But you could use the help.”
“And that’s why Garth is meeting me.”
“Garth?” Dean wrinkled his nose. Why of everyone, would she call him?
“Yes Garth,” she replied. “I figured he could help with the whole not all monsters want to eat you lesson. Help ease the tension.”
“Makes sense,” he sighed. “I still wish I could go with you.”
“It’s not like this is the last time I am going to see you Dean,” she rolled her eyes. “I’ll be back in a couple days.”
“That’s too long,” he pulled her close to him with a grin.
“Dean,” she pushed back gingerly with a smirk. “Two days, tops, and I will be back. You have my word.”
“Well what if I’m not here? Hmm?”
“And where would you be?” She laughed back. “On vacation with Sam?”
“Who the hell knows,” he sighed. “I feel like we’re constantly being pulled apart.”
“Dean,” she looked up to him with those glowing eyes. “Nothing will ever keep me away from you forever. I promise that. Wherever you go, I’ll be waiting for your safe return.”
“How did I ever get so lucky to have deserved you?” He stated as he pushed her hair back.
“Fate, angels and demons messing with our families. You know the usual romance story,” she giggled.
“This is the only time I’m ever going to be thankful to them,” he chuckled back.
“You and me both,” she snickered. Her eyes went back to the group of teens all gathering their items.
“You still think trusting those things at the university is the smart move?”
“We need them on our side Dean,” she replied. “We need to all work together, create that better life we’ve always wished for.”
“I still don’t trust them,” he sighed.
“Trust me,” she assured him. “I got this handled.”
“You and your crazy plans,” he scoffed.
“Hey,” she smirked. “They always work, don't they?”
“Yes,” he rolled his eyes. “I guess they do.”
“And don’t forget there Mr. Winchester, you’re one of those crazy plans as well.”
She laughed as she began to walk away. Stopping to talk to Maggie who was one of the only teens not packing.
“Not going?” Dean asked.
“No, Maggie replied. “I'm not ready to leave yet.”
“Understand,” Y/N smiled. “ Can you do me a favor then?”
“Yeah, anything,” she replied.
“Watch out for this guy for me,” Y/N nodded over to Dean. “He gets lost without me.”
“Do not,” he chuckled back.
“No problem,” Maggie laughed back. “I will.”
Maggie left to talk with the others as everyone made their way outside. Dean was surprised to see a big suv there instead of her normal purple beast.
“Now I know something is wrong,” he stated as he slapped the hood.
“Couldn’t fit them all in my Baby,” she laughed. “I had to improvise. It still has a V-8 at least.”
“Well that’s something at least,” Dean laughed.
Dean watched as the last teen packed their bag in the back of the big SUV. It was time for her to go. Time to say goodbye.
“I love you,” she said as she hugged him close.
“I love you too Mrs. Winchester,” Dean teased.
“Mrs. Winchester,” her nose turned. “Yeah, I don’t think I’d ever get used to that one.”
“Well you’re going to have to one day,” Dean grinned. “Someday soon. I promise.”
____
It had been at least an hour and a half before the first person complained from the back for the bathroom. An hour long of arguing and other teenage banter all while they whined over your repertoire of music. Apparently in apocalypse world they had their own version of Taylor Swift and Kanye West. You just rolled your eyes with a smile as you played “their” type of music to appease them. Everything seemed normal. At least for the moment.
While waiting for the last person to come back from the bathroom break, your phone began to ring.
“Hello?”
“It’s Mary. Are you and the kids safe?”
“Yeah, just stopped to pee,” you readjusted yourself to look towards the bathrooms. “Halfway there.”
“Did you see Maggie before you left?” Her voice cracked a little.
“Yeah, she waved us off as we pulled away,” you replied with concern. “Why? What happened?”
“Maggie is dead,” her voice broke mid sentence.
You stepped out of the SUV quickly while holding the phone to your chest. You didn’t want to worry the others without more information.
“How?” You said once you knew you were out of earshot.
“She was attacked,” she replied. “But it doesn’t look like a creature. It looks… human.”
“Suspects?” You breathed out.
“None so far, but everyone that was here. I didn’t know if maybe one of them…”
“No, all of them with me were accounted for and she was alive,” you answered rapidly. “We will turn back around. I can help-“
“No,” she interrupted. “Get them to safety. I’ll keep you updated.”
“Are you-“
“I know they’re safe with you,” she replied. “Get them there and settled. It’s not safe here for them.”
“You be safe Mary,” you replied.
“You too.”
As you hung up the phone everything in you screamed to turn back around. Who there would want to hurt Maggie? She was a sweetheart. There was something or rather someone that threatened your family and you weren’t there. It didn’t sit right with you.
“Hey Doc! You coming?” You heard Jerry yell from the backseat.
“Coming,” you replied with your best fake smile. Gotta get the the kids to safety. Got to keep going. No matter how much it killed you.
_______
“Well that was a milk run,” Dean laughed as he slung his bag into Baby’s trunk as they walked out of the werewolves cabin. “Jack, that thing you do with freezing them is helpful, but next time, we’re working on weaponry.”
“I used the force,” Jack smiled. “Just like Y/N told me too.”
“Well even Luke had to learn how to use a lightsaber kid,” Dean smiled.
“Dean,” Cas spoke up from being in the phone. “We have to get back. Now.”
“What’s up Cas?”
“Maggie,” he replied. “She’s been found dead.
“Maggie!” Jack exclaimed. “What did this?”
Dean could see the look of red fury shining in Jack’s eyes. He was angry. No telling what he would do.
“They don’t know. They just said she was attacked,” Cas replied sternly. “Y/N has the others safe on their way to Lawrence. None of them were involved and there’s us. Everyone else…”
“Are suspects,” Sam interjected. “Let’s get going.”
Dean nodded and they all got into Baby quickly. He had a sick feeling in his stomach. How could this happen? Who or what would hurt his family? Whatever it was, was about to pay severely. If not by him, but the ticking time bomb in his backseat by the name of Jack.
_____
Getting to campus couldn’t happen fast enough. The SUV sure wasn’t your baby, but the V8 in it definitely was able to kick it up in gear. Not too noticeable to the kids though. You still didn’t want to freak them out although you knew you’d have to tell them sooner, rather than later.
“Garth!” You smiled as you saw him leaning on his old cutlass.
“Hey Doc,” he smiled back as he walked up to give you an epic werewolf hug. It lingered for a minute, before he pulled away. His face twisted. “Something smells wrong.”
“Yeah, I need your help.”
You quickly explained everything to Garth. He was more than agreeable to watch the group for you. After showing them the house right on the edge of campus that they would be staying in, you handed your credit card off to Garth for supplies along with the keys to the SUV. In return, he handed you the keys to ‘ol Betty, his ‘79 Cutlass.
You were maybe 5 minutes down the road when the demon Natalie along with a bunch of other monsters stopped you in the middle of the road. It looked like a trap. Felt like a trap. Dammit. You placed it in park as you sat contemplating what to do next.
“What’s going on?” You shouted as you got slowly out of the car, hiding the gun you had found in the glove box in your waistband behind you. All lights detecting anger. Shit.
“You broke the deal”, her eyes turned black.
“What are you talking about? I didn’t break our deal.”
“He’s back,” she seethed.
“Who?”
“Lucifer.”
______
Lucifer. Michael. Their worst nightmares were here. Jack was nowhere to be found and it was any moment that Michael would find them. Sam groaned into his hands as he heard the clicking of Dean armoring all the weapons next to him, preparing for the worse.
“Sam”, his mother spoke softly. “Sam, it will be alright. Jack will be back-“
“What if we’ve failed him? Hmm? What if when Lucifer talks, he actually listens?” Sam could feel the tears form in his eyes while thinking of Jack taking Lucifer’s side.
“Jack is a strong and bright boy, Sammy. He cares about everyone here. Nothing could or ever will change that.”
“Jack will be fine,” Dean grunted. “If anything, Lucifer wants to protect him. That whole bullshit father relationship thing he never got with his own. What we need to worry about is Michael.”
“The bunker is warded. He shouldn’t be able to come in-“
“I’m not worried about him coming in,” Dean interjected with the sound of a bullet loading into the chamber echoed throughout the room. “We have people out there. People we need to worry about.”
“Dean-“
“Y/N is out there and she doesn’t know. She’s not answering her phone. I'm not standing here with my tail between my legs while they’re still out there.”
“Y/N will be fine,” Mary pleaded. “They’re far away from here.”
“Mary, there’s something about Y/N that you should know,” Cas spoke up. “Something that of Michael were to get her, it would mean possibly the end, of all of us.”
_____
“Lucifer,” you breathed out. How was he here? How did he get back?
“That’s not the only archangel you let through,” she continued. “Seems we have another problem. Of a different world.”
Michael. Your eyes widened at the thought. Everyone at the bunker would be slaughtered. Dean. Sam. Everyone.
“You have to let me go! To get back there!”
“To what? Sacrifice yourself for the Winchesters? You swore your allegiance to us,” she growled.
“I can stop them. Both of them,” you stated.
“We don’t want you to stop them,” her eyes stayed black as her smile grew. “We want to use you as a trade.”
The two shifters and three demons at her side started to round you. Cornering you from escaping.
“I don’t want to fight you,” you warned.
“Bitch, please,” she laughed. “You may be strong, but we’re stronger. You’re nothing but a pathetic human.”
With the drop of her last word you felt your blood begin to boil with rage. Your mind became a fog as you fought them all off as they jumped to secure you. You had managed to get out the gun and shoot off a couple of rounds, only injuring them to submission. Luckily, Garth always had a devil's trap etched on his bullets. A trick he learned from some old friends. Punches and kicks continued to be thrown until you managed to finally break the last shifter's leg in a swoop, causing it to let out a piercing scream.
You had been worn down from the fight that you collapsed next to the car. Your rib cage slowly healing itself from at least two broken bones. As you tried to catch your breath your heard someone approaching you from behind. Dr. Frankel along with two men were standing there with a look of disgust.
“Clean this mess up,” he ordered.
You watched as the men killed those who had attacked you. You sat there in utter confusion as to why they would hurt their own.
“Ms. Y/L/N, I do apologize,” he spoke up while offering his hand to you to lift you up. You were cautious, but his light showed sincerity.
“What-?” You stumbled out.
“A few rogue members seemed to act out of fear,” he interjected. “I told you we take care of our own.”
“I need to get back.”
“To the Winchesters,” he answered. “Yes, we will clean this up. You have more important things to take care of.”
“Lucifer,” you breathed out.
“And Michael. Either one around brings unfortune for all of us. If there’s anyone that can stop them; it would be you and your friends.”
“We will,” you stood up a little straighter, feeling your ribs slowly mend back to normal.
“Good. We’re counting on you. For the sake of all human and monster kind.”
_____
Coming face to face with Michael again was what Dean had once feared more than anything. Now? As he felt a part of his soul rip from him the moment that Sam disappeared with Lucifer and Jack, he stood there saying the word he promised he never would. Yes.
Allowing Michael to possess him was the only way to get Sam back. The only way to save Jack. The only way to stop Lucifer once and for all.
“Dean! No!” Cas yelled.
“Tell Y/N I love her,” was the only words that Dean was able to say before the flash of light consumed him: Michael and Dean were one.
A nightmare come true.
________
You sped the whole way back as fast as the car would go. The closer you got, the more you felt a growing sickness inside of you. As you entered the bunker you discovered the main door was destroyed, blasted by something or rather someone.
“Dean!” You yelled out.
“Y/N,” Cas rushed to the stairs, meeting you at the bottom. “Deans gone.”
“Where-“ you turned your head in a frantic. Gone? What happened here? Where was he? Where was anyone?
“He said yes to Michael Y/N,” Cas grabbed at you face to steady your eyes on him.
“He did what?” You choked out.
Cas explained what had happened as you felt your legs begin to give out from under you. You fell back into a chair as Cas continued to tell you Dean's last words.
“I have to find him Cas,” you cried.
“You have a connection to the Winchesters,” he said out loud. “Perhaps, if you concentrate you can locate them.”
“I-I’ve never done that.”
“You have to try,” he urged.
You closed your eyes tightly, feeling sick from the thought that you would lose them. ‘Concentrate,’ Cas continued to urge as you tried to push through the feeling. You breathed deep as you focused on the thought of Dean. His green eyes sparkling as he laughed. The way his lips moved when he said he loved you. The way his hands felt on your skin. The smell of his skin against your nose. Just then you saw a flash of light before you, running rapid down the road, along a pathway to an old church tucked away in the woods that time forgot. You saw Dean, Sam, Jack, and Lucifer.
“I know where they are.”
_______
There was a weight that lifted as Sam watched Lucifer’s lifeless body lay. A breath of relief followed by a smile in satisfaction arose. They did it. They killed the devil: he would never be able to hurt anyone ever again. He would never plague Sam’s dreams ever again.
“Is he…”
“He-he’s dead,” Sam let out.
“Holy crap,” Dean breathed out.
“You did it.”
“No, no we did it,” Dean smiled. “We did it.”
Sam turned his head to the sound of the doors opening. Entering in was Y/N with Cas. Their eyes wide at the fallen angel on the ground. Sam was just about to speak when he saw Dean rumble down in pain, grunting.
“Dean? Dean!”
“We had a deal!” Dean yelled as he continued to groan.
Then silence. Y/N went to move but Cas, put his arm in front of her to stop her. She looked back at him annoyed before they all watched in horror as Dean got up slowly and calmly. Something was wrong. This wasn’t Dean anymore.
“Michael,” Sam whispered.
“Thanks for the suit.”
_______
Seeing Dean surrounded by the blinding white light was surreal. His own colors barley shinning through. It was him, but not. The colors were mixing as you watched him keel over in pain. Until it was white. Pure white.
“Michael,” you breathed out a moment before you heard Sam say it as well.
“Thanks for the suit.”
With a flap of a wing, he was gone. Michael was gone. Dean was gone. That moment, your heart broke into two as you collapsed to the ground, Cas trying to stand you up.
“Y/N,” he pleaded. “We have to go.”
“He’s gone Cas,” you cried. “He’s really gone.”
“We will get him back.”
“What do we do with the body?” Jack asked as he looked down at his fathers corpse, the outline of his torn wings singed into the ground.
“We burn it,” Sam stated.
You looked over to Lucifer. His body still, yet…
“He… he’s alive!” You yelled out.
“What-“
You scrambled to your feet as you rushed over to Lucifer’s body. The person that was inside was still alive, his light faint.
“He’s still alive in here!“
“Lucifer?” Sam rushed to your side.
“No, not him-“ you picked up his head as you watched as his eyes began to flutter. “The human!”
“Nick,” Cas said out loud. “How?”
“Get him in the car! He needs help!”
Sam didn’t move from his spot as you held the wound on Nick’s chest to stop the bleeding. Cas rushed to your side to help with healing him with his grace.
“He’s badly wounded,” Cas continued. “We need to get him out of here. Back to the bunker.”
“No!” Sam yelled out.
“It’s not Lucifer Sam!” You cried out. “Help him!”
You watched as Sam clenched his jaw before he helped with picking up Nick and moving him out along with Castiel. You were left to pick up the archangel blade, it’s golden edges soaked in the blood of the devil. They did it. They really killed the devil. A chapter closed, but as you let out a heavy sigh you knew a worse chapter had opened.
“I warned you about them,” the familiar voice making you spin in your spot to turn to it.
“Billie,” you breathed out. “Why are you-“
“Archangels are collected just the same as everything else, to go to a place that is empty of nothing but time.”
“So Lucifer-“
“He’s been taken care of and out somewhere that can not harm another being in this world,” she answered your unspoken question.
“And Dean?”
“What about Dean?” She smirked.
“Wh-what’s going to happen? With Michael?”
“I can not predict how things will get to their end, I just know the ending,”her smirk continued.
“And his ending?”
“His, entirely depends on yours.”
“My-my ending?” You sighed out deeply. “How I die , you mean?”
“Exactly,” she continued. “All one has is choices, or at least that is what the fates say. But you my dear, have only one possible ending, unless-“
“Unless what ?”
“Unless I show you right now, at this moment and you make your choice.”
You felt your heart pump harder than ever as you swallowed hard. This was it. This was your choice to make.
“Yes”.
_____
“Sam,” Cas grunted. “We have to get him medical attention.”
“We should just leave him here. He made his choice,” Sam snarled. “We have to find Dean.”
“We will find him, Sam. But Dean would have wanted to save Nick. Deal with Lucifer or not. He is just a man who can be saved. Now help me save him.”
Sam grumbled as he assisted Castiel with putting Nick into the backseat of the car. He couldn’t stand his face. It was not the face of a man, but a monster from his nightmares. As Y/N walked out of the church, he felt even heavier with dread. Dean was gone. He was trapped now with the one monster they all knew she would never win against. They were doomed.
____
“Oh Dean, I do wish you’d stop fighting in there,” Michael grinned at himself in the mirror. “Let me see what you see.”
Within his reflection, Dean appeared; angry, trying to fight out. Michael just grinned as he watched Dean’s face turn trying to break out.
“Now be civil,” Michael continued. “And I’ll let you play.”
“We had a deal you son of a bitch!”
“No one ever put a time stamp on it Dean-o,” he raised his brow with a chuckle. “I am going to enjoy this world. But first, who was that girl?”
“You stay away from her you-“
“Ah, so she’s important to you?” He pursed his lips. “Why?”
“I’m not telling you a goddamn thing!”
“Oh you will,” he grinned again. “Remember Dean, I am you now. Sooner or later. I will know all that you know.”
_____
A month had passed and there was still no word. Nothing. With every day that passed, you knew what was to come. The eventual day when you would be face to face with the man you loved again, only not him. The creature you now feared more than anything.
You stayed busy with the kids at the university. Each day, showing them something new and directing them into the way of this world. That was of course while you also kept busy with your classes and prepped for the fall semester. That was during daylight hours. Almost every night you would venture out more and more with Sam to try to find something, anything that could bring Dean back to you. Billie had to be wrong. She just had to.
“So if I leave Lawrence by noon-“
“Y/N,” Sam interjected causing you to turn to him. “When was the last time you slept?”
“I’ll sleep when I’m dead,” you smiled at him. He was not buying it as being a joke.
“Look, I need you. Dean needs you. We all do, but please. Please Y/N, go home and sleep. You’re running on fumes.”
“More like espresso, but I get your point,” you sighed out. “What about you, huh?”
“What about me?”
“You haven’t shaved in weeks, you’re starting to look like Chewbacca there,” you teased.
“I-I just haven’t felt like it.”
“Yeah, I get it,” you leaned into him as you both stood next to your car. “I miss him too. It’s just not the same.”
“Who’d thought that this is where we would end up? With everything that happened. How did we even get here?”
“Well, Fate is a bitch,” you chuckled. “Trust me, I know.”
“We won. We actually won for once only to lose yet again. It never ends”
“It goes with the territory I guess,” you shrugged. “No one ever said we were guaranteed rainbows where wishes come true.”
“Yeah well, I’m getting sick and tired of losing,” he let out a deep breath. “My only hope is that Dean comes back Dean.”
“What do you mean?”
“When Lucifer,” Sam cleared his throat, the thought of him still bothering him after his demise. “When he was in me, I felt nothing but pain and anger. It took a long time for Dean to get me back.”
You stood silent. You didn’t even know what to say. The thought never occurred to you that Dean wouldn’t be your Dean if he ever got out of this. The sadness trickled down your cheek to the thought.
“I just hope I’m strong enough,” Sam continued.
“Hey you are,” you nudged him. “You’re one of the strongest people I know and you won’t be alone.”
“No, I have you too.”
You took a deep breath and smiled at him. “There’s a whole big family out there looking for him. Your mom, Cas, Charlie. Everyone will get through this. One day, one step at a time.”
“But first, sleep,” he stated as he pushed himself up from the car.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah. That sleep thing,” you smiled.
You turned to your car and through the open window, pulled out a big sealed manila envelope to hand to Sam.
“What’s this?”
“Give it to your mom when you see her,” you smiled. “She knows what to do with it.”
“You know, Dean told me before that he wanted to marry you,” Sam shyly stated as he played with the envelope. “I don’t know if he had gotten the chance to-“
“He asked,” you replied.
“And?”
“I said yes.”
“Good,” Sam smiled. “Because I can’t imagine you not being around. You’re my sister now and I love you.”
“I love you too, Sam,” you smiled. He held out his arms for you to go into his big bear hug. It was warm and reassuring. Just what you needed as the tears started to push again once more. Your little big brother Sam. He was more than you could ever ask for.
______
“What do you want?”
“I don't know. Chanel, Dior, Louis Vuitton,” sister Jo responded with sass. This Michael, he was different. Scarier if that was possible. What was he going to do?
“You think this is a joke?”
“I don’t know what this is. You asked, I answered. We done?” She wanted to get the hell away from him and any of his plans.
“No. I asked, and you lied,” there was venom in his voice.
“I didn't,” her voice quaked.”
“I know about you, Jo. Because he knew about you. You're the rebel, the angel who doesn't like playing by Heaven's rules or whatever. You pretend to care about these things -- pretty things. But that's all it is -- pretending.
These trinkets, they don't make you happy. They just pass the time. They're not what you really want.”
“And if you're so smart, what do I really want?”
“Love. To belong, to have a place -- a home, a family. It's very very human of you. And so, so disappointing. I can sense how many angels are in this world. There aren't many left. I thought... maybe I could help. But if they're all these sad, lost, fallen things -- things like you -- maybe they're not worth saving, either.”
“Yeah well the last Michael was a lot of talk too,” she quipped back.
“I am not like my other self,” he smiled. “I can see now why he failed. Angels, hiding away from humans. They were created to serve us.”
“To serve us?” She mocked him. “What book have you been reading?”
“I’m the only archangel in this world,” he breathed out. “I see it is up to me to fix the balance. No one can stop me.”
Jo felt a cold shiver run down her back as his eyes seemed to gleam at her, his eyes turning blue with power. He was going to kill her.
“And I won’t be needing defiant angels like you.”
“Wait!” She cried out. “Wait a minute. I can help!”
“How could you possibly-“
“There is someone who could defeat you. A girl.”
“A girl? Not likely.”
“Yeah well, likely. There’s stories of her and her powers. She was created to be the bride of Michael’s true vessel. Your vessel. Her powers, I’ve only heard stories, but she’s strong. She could defeat you.”
“You lie.”
“Ask Dean yourself,” she replied. “If he’s still in there.”
“Would her name happen to be Y/N?” He grinned.
“Yes. I think so.”
Michael smirked as he shook his head with a slight chuckle.
“Oh Dean, what a secret you have been keeping.”
______
You tapped on the dinette table as you stared at your computer screen. Reading essays on your Saturday at 6 am was not what you wanted to do, but at least there was good coffee as you sat back in the worn vinyl seat of the coffee shop.
There were a few patrons already up and starting their day, but overall it was pretty quiet. Quiet. How you missed it. You watched as the waitress moved from one table to another, busily taking orders when all of the sudden she stopped mid step. Frozen, she was frozen. You look around you too see everything else, including the clock was all stuck in time. All but you.
“Hello Michael,” you stated out loud as you turned your head back to the seat in front of you. A lump in your throat rose as you couldn’t see Dean’s light beyond his. Was he still in there?
“Hello Y/N. Nice to finally meet you,” he smiled. “Dean’s told me all about you.”
“Hopefully not everything,” you snarked back with a fake smile.
“Enough,” he continued to smirk. Those lips. Those damn lips. Dean’s lips that now made your blood boil as they moved.
“What can I do for you?”
“It’s more of what I can do for you,” he replied. “I can say, my world has nothing like you so when I learned about you and your…abilities I was intrigued.”
“Flattered, I’m sure,” you rolled your eyes.
“You see this world, it's all wrong. The balance is wrong. I am here to right that wrong,” he moved forward a bit in his seat like he was trying to sell you on his doomsday plan. He really believed the shit that came out his mouth. “I want to make more you.”
“Excuse me?”
“You. The perfect being. The rightful to inherit this earth with you by my side to rule them of course,” he continued.
“Why would I ever agree to that?”
“Because I know what you want.”
“And what’s that?”
“To be like everyone else. To be accepted for what you are,” he replied. “But you are so much better than they are. You should be loved and worshiped by all.”
“I am loved,” you quipped back. “I’m good.”
“By Dean, yes,” he shook his head. “He surely does love you. But don’t you want more?”
“No,” you shook your head with a furrowed brow. He didn’t get it. He didn’t know what love was. “I just want him.”
“You are foolish,” he sat back with a look of confusion. “Say yes to me and I will give him back to you.”
“Let me speak to him first. I need to know he’s okay.”
“You don’t trust me?”
“You’ve already broken one deal,” you snapped back. “I’m not taking chances.”
“Very well,” he nodded.
You watched as the light shifted within Dean’s body to show that Dean now had the reigns. He blinked rapidly like he just awoke from a dream.
“Doc! Get out of here!,” he cried as he shook the table with both of his hands hitting the top.”It’s not safe-“
“Shhh. Dean. It’s okay. I promise. Everything is going to be okay,” a tear started to fall from your eyes as you moved what was hiding in your lap to your hand. “I’ll see you soon.”
As soon as you finished your words you placed the object, your knife, into his hand and grabbed it with your own hands to stab yourself directly into the chest, just right of the heart in the aorta. Fatal almost instantly to any one or thing.
“No!” You heard him yell as his light shifted back to Michael. As your vision grew fuzzy and your breath slower you heard the muffled sounds of him yelling. “Why won’t you heal!”
With your last breath you vanish from the coffee shop. No trace to be found as everything came back to life. Michael was on the ground furious looking for you or any of your blood. He let out a howl before disappearing again once more.
_______
One month ago…
“If I do this,” your nervousness was making its presence in your voice. “I need to know that no one will be able to bring me back or use my blood. No one. Not heaven or hell.”
“I will take care of that,” Billie replied. “Your soul is strong and it will stay in the middle, with me. For all time as long as I am death.”
“And what do you get out of all of this?”
“Balance,” she stated. “The correct balance.”
You let out a deep sigh as you shook your head.
“Your balance you mean?“
“You were never meant to be Y/N. I am sorry, but your presence makes things…complicated. I don’t like complicated.”
“And Dean?”
“Dean will be fine,” she smiled. You didn’t trust it. She was too…at ease about the whole situation. “Your sacrifice will ensure it.”
“Then yes,” you let out a deep breath.”I’ll do it.”
“You’re ready then?”
“No,” you shook your head. “I do it on my terms. “I have unfinished business to take care of first.”
“You have a month and it will be all too late for you to stop it. To stop him.”
“A lot can happen in a month,” you chuckled. “I’ll be ready. This is happening my way.”
“Very well,” she shook her head. “I’ll be seeing you soon Y/N.”
______
Sam woke up from what seemed like a two day sleep to noises clamoring outside in the halls. He groaned into his pillow, wishing for the days of old where the bunker was quiet. At least at 7 am. He got up reluctantly and made his way out to the hall. People stoped talking as he drew near. They just stared at him, almost in pity. What happened?
“Mom?” Sam asked out loud as he saw her hunched over with tears down her face.
“Sam,” she breathed out while getting up to embrace him. He was confused as to why she was crying and the whole room now stood silently still watching them.
“Mom,” he pushed back. “What happened?”
“Y/N,” she managed to breathe out. “Michael got her. He… killed her.”
She fell apart again into his arms as she spoke those words he had dreaded. Michael had not only taken his brother, but his new found sister as well.
Sam felt his own tears roll down his eyes as he remembered just last night their time together. Just hanging out and talking. She was so reassuring that everything would be fine. But how could it now?
“Mom,” he pulled back from her embrace. “Y/N gave me something last night. She said you would know what to do with it.”
It only took but a moment for him to get to his room to retrieve it, his mother following him in toe. Handing her the envelope, his hand trembled. Whatever was in there was the last piece that she would ever give them.
Mary opened it slowly to reveal 5 white envelopes, all sealed with names across each.
“Mary, Sam, Jack, Bobby,” Mary read them outloud. “And Dean.”
“What?” Sam reached over as Mary handed him his. His heart sank to see his name across the paper. He opened it slowly to reveal a letter specifically to him.
“Dearest Sam,
I know that this is the cowardly way to tell you, couldn’t let you talk me out of it. Lord knows I wish there was any other choice. I’m sorry that I can’t be there for you and everyone else. I’ve seen what would happen if I stay. I couldn’t let that happen so I made the ultimate choice. Please let Dean know that it wasn’t his fault. He will need you when this is done.
Sam, please remember that you are strong and everyone appreciates all that you do for them. Remember to stay kind and loving. Smile more and take care of yourself.
I don’t know when I will see you again, if ever. I’m not anywhere to be found, yet everywhere. Just know I love all of you and I thank you for treating me like family while helping me find my real home.
Take care,
Doc”
Hey, there's an epilogue....
~leave the love ❤️ ~
Tag lists ( This is so old, if you didn't want to be tagged , I apologize.
I’ve seen an increase in binging my fics and figured a reintroduction was necessary. I’m an ADHD writer, so I get really hyper focused on one, then lose interest and start another. I’ll also admit that sometimes I lose the drive to write, but the love left helps! I have at least 6 works in progress at any given time that need to be purged from my drafts soon.
I’m also a psychologist that works with individuals in the criminal justice system. My mind is twisted at times because, well, for my job I have to understand the rationale behind the twisted behaviors of my clients. It’s a fun way to destress myself from all the sad stories I’m told.
I am a stickler for paying homage to the original script and rewatching episodes over and over so I can get my scene right. I share a birthday with Eric Kripke and Baby, April 24th, so that probably explains it.
Anyways, my tag lists are old because I was MIA for a bit, so if you want tagged or to continue to be tagged, leave a comment please!! I’m trying to get back to organized as there is a couple series about to roll out soon 😁.
Summary: The reader has had a unique gift all her life. While considering it a curse, she discovers the identity of her real father after her mothers passing. Journeying towards her new life, she finds herself thrown within the Winchester’s world. Is it her destiny?
Setting: End of season 13. This takes place in the midst of episode 21. Flashbacks are italicized.
Warnings: Language. Angst. Sooo much Fluff.... some implied sexy time (nudity & kissing). Death. Blood. Self harm (I guess cutting yourself for a blood spell would be?)
A/N:Second to last chapter. I’m finally ready to say goodbye to it. Things have unraveled more and more, so I hope you’ve been paying attention. I wrote this while watching episode 21 at least 6 times. Reworking it had to happen, but I think I did the original script justice. Let me know what you think!
Any grammatical mistakes are all my own, because I am human. Remember all comments and feedback are welcomed! If you want a tag in future posts regarding this series or other writings please send an ask! As always thank you for reading! Enjoy!
Series Masterlist
”Slow down Andretti, ” you heard Dean chuckle out. ”There’s a clearing up on the left.”
You took your foot slowly off the gas as you stuck out your tongue to him. You turned your head back and saw the clearing, braking to turn into it carefully.
“And here we are.”
”Middle of the woods?” you looked around from over the wheel. ”Now's the time you plan to kill me huh?”
”I mean, our first night together we did dump a body in the woods, ” he smirked.
You almost spoke up about that not being the first time but stopped yourself. You were unsure if Dean even remembered the night he had been your protector all those years ago or if a certain someone happened to have taken those memories away from him too. Better to leave it alone; keep the good memories...well, mostly good.
“Come on, ” he said with the creak of the opening door.
You followed his lead, walking up to him holding out his hand for yours. It was dark, but the night sky made it easy enough to see with the millions of stars above. After a few minutes he led you to a small pond, the moon shimmering in it's ripples.
” It's beautiful here, ” you smiled over to him.
”Thought you'd like it, ” he smiled back, his light glowing brightly with the moon. “It's no pool, but I'll have you know that this is private property, so we shouldn't be here.”
”Taking a risk there Winchester?”
”Yeah well someone told me I should. And then they called me an old man, ” the side of his lip curling up.
”You are, ” you giggled back as you dropped your hand from his and walked towards it, discarding clothing as you drew closer to the edge.
”What are you doing?” you could hear the laugh in his voice.
”Living Dean. You should try it, ” you said as you looked over your shoulder to him as you shimmied off your underpants. “Come on. Old man.”
“I’m the same age as you smart ass!”
The water was chilly, but not much. With the warm summer air, it was refreshing. Could have made do without all the random fish and gunk surrounding your feet, but the sight of Dean standing there on the edge with a smile was all you needed.
”Not going to join?” You called out.
”I like the sight from here, ” he replied.
”It's better up close, ” you teased while splashing the water around you.
You watched him as he undressed, his eyes never really leaving yours but for a moment to look around before his boxers came off. He walked in slowly, making faces as the water continued to reach higher up his thighs.
”Just jump right in!”
He rolled his eyes comically before diving headfirst into the almost still water, causing a huge splash. You watched and waited for him to surface, but it was taking a long time. Too long.
”Dean?” you called out, as you circled around. ”Dean!”
”Right here Doc, ” his voice stated behind you, making you turn around swiftly.
”You worried me there, ” you sighed in relief.
”I’m a really good swimmer, ” he smirked back. ”This is the first time in a long time that I've gotten to do this without clothes though.”
”Oh really?”
”Yes really, ” he moved in closer to you, making waves with his hands. ”It's a little freeing. Normally I'm pushed in by a really hot chick, one that I can't stop thinking about kissing.”
”Sounds like a real bitch, ” you smirked, remembering the night at the hotel pool, how you pushed him in because you didn't want him to kiss you. A plan that failed miserably later.
”She can be.” he gave a shrug. ”Ah, but when she smiles the whole world stops and I can't believe that a smile like that is for a grunt like me.”
”Maybe it's not, ” you teased as you pushed yourself to be almost flesh with him. Looking up to him, you began to rub your hand down his arm. ”Maybe it's because she can't believe that she's so lucky to have such an amazing man want to see her smile.”
Dean leaned his head into yours, kissing your lips gently. You pulled away with a smile planted on your face. Everything about this moment was perfect. You could almost forget everything that was waiting for you back at the bunker.
”Dean?”
”Yeah?”
”What if things go wrong? What if- if it doesn't work or you don't come back?”
” Let's not think about that, ” he started as he leaned into you again, leaving light kisses along your neck to your ear.
”Hard not to think about it, ” you pulled away again. ”Can we be serious for a moment?”
”Fate wanted us together right?” he sighed, earning a nod from you. ”So it will work. I'll be back, safe, and sound. Can't run from fate.”
”I wish I was as hopeful as you, ” you sighed out. ”I'm just worried, that's all. And this- this almost seems like you're saying goodbye.”
”I can't hide anything from you huh?” he chuckled softly. ”I won't lie. I'm worried too. I wanted to make what could be the last night together special.”
”Dean-, ” you softly spoke.
”Hey, I don't want any boohoo moments, ” he cut you off. ”I know the risks but I know what the prize is too. My family, everyone including you, all together again.”
You looked up to his eyes with the moon gleaming in them. Those damn eyes. So full of hope, courage, and bravery. You envied him at that moment. This was a first for you; the feeling of powerlessness. Just what you had been afraid of in getting too close to someone, but he was right. Everything was worth it because you wouldn't trade the way he looked at you for the world.
You leaned into him and laid your lips on his. His own welcoming you as his arms wrapped around your body. The two of you became one in the water as the ripples of your movement steadily caught in the night sky. A moment, you were never going to forget.
”I love you Y/N, ” he managed to breathe out.
You moved and looked up to him, waiting for you to say it in return.
”I love you too Dean.”
The two of you made it back towards your discarded clothing along the ground. Taking your time to dry a little, you got them back on, hoping that the night could go on forever.
”We should get back, ” Dean stated as he pulled his shirt down over his head.
”Not yet, ” you replied as you placed your warm hoodie back on. ”How about something to eat? I'm starving.”
”A woman after my own heart.”
At such a late time of night, the only thing that was open was fast food. But that was alright. You'd eat gruel if it meant a few more minutes before you had to go back. A few more minutes to forget what awaited the two of you.
Sitting in the car with the radio playing and tearing into your burger your mind kept going back to all your worries. You didn’t want to ruin the moment of peace, but you knew your mind would not stop until you had some sort of answers. Anything to make you feel some relief that he was not walking to his doom.
”What's it like over there?”
”Where?” Dean replied with his mouth full.
”You know where, ” you chuckled as you dropped down your burger. ”How bad is it?”
He reached over to take a sip of his pop from the straw. Either you clear his throat from the half a cow he just demolished or to give him a second to ignore your question. His light started to shift, so you guessed the latter.
”So?”
”It's bad. Real bad. Unicorns that fart glitter and fairies as beautiful as the sun. Its random orgies bad, ” he smirked.
”Be serious, ” you rolled your eyes.
” It's dead, ” he sighed out after a pregnant pause. ”Everything. It's like a wasteland of nothing. Nothing but angels and monsters preying on the few humans left fighting.”
”What if-” you let out a deep breath. ”What if you can't find them?”
”Then I'll come back and keep trying.”
”And Michael?”
”What about him?”
”You're his true vessel. What if he sees you and won't let you go until you say yes?”
”I would never do that, ” he reassured you. ”I have too much waiting for me here.”
”You have done that though, ” you replied. ”I read the books. You did try to say yes, but Adam had already taken your place.”
”That was for Sammy, ” he shook his head. ”That was different.”
”It could- it could happen again.”
”Are you having some sort of premonition or something? What's with the doomsday worries?”
”Death, ” you sighed out. ”She's been warning me about you. About being near you. She even offered to show me my death.”
”And?”
”And I didn't want to know, ” you replied. ”But I have a bad feeling Dean.”
”Hey, stop it, ” he smiled sweetly. ”Aren't you supposed to be the level headed one? Come on Doc. I've survived worse.”
”Just being a realist, ” you turned your head away from him.
”I know. That's what I love about you. But seriously, you freaking out has me scared.”
”Sorry, ” you mumbled under your breath.
”I don't know how long it will take, but I’ll be back. With everyone, if they'll come. Mom, Jack, Charlie, and Bobby.”
”Bobby?” your head snapped towards him. ”Not…?”
”He’s not our Bobby, your dad. But yeah, there’s one from that world and I gotta say, he's just like him. Stubborn and one hell of a fighter.”
”Do you think, ” you paused for a moment. ”Do you think that there is another me? His daughter?”
”Didn't get a chance to ask, ” he replied. ”Even if there was, I doubt that she’d be anything like you. There's no one like you and I'm not even talking about the whole magical gifts stuff. You're one of a kind.”
”I love how you get all sappy there Dean, ” you giggled a bit.
”I'm just a regular Cassanova, ” he smirked.
“For better or worse, this is happening though.”
“Yup.”
“Then what? What do we do? I mean Lucifer will be tied up with us, it won’t hold him forever.”
“True.”
“And Jack. I know you said that you trust the kid, but what if...what if he does go rogue? Turns out like his dad?”
“We’ll take care of it Y/N,” he promised. “I’ll take care of it. Whatever means necessary.”
“I hate all these unknowns,” you rolled your eyes. “I’m so used to having everything all played out. Not worrying about anything really. Things are different now. I’m not alone in it, and it’s scary.”
“Do you trust me?”
You rolled your eyes over to him, giggling a little at his statement while thinking of the cartoon Aladdin saying the same thing when he was lying off his ass to Jasmine. You hoped to god that Dean wasn’t though.
“I do.”
“Good,” he gave a firm nod before smiling. “Because once this is all over. I’m taking you out on a real date.”
“Oh really?”
“Yeah, dinner, movie. Whatever you want.”
“Sounds boring,” you playfully smiled.
“Okay then,” chuckled a bit. “Road trip. Find a haunted bourse or something and hunt down a ghost.”
“That does sound fun,” you laughed.
“That’s my girl.”
________
Sam tossed and turned in his bed the whole night. His attempt to sleep was becoming futile. All he could think about was Lucifer, standing there with a grim smile taunting him.
How the hell was he going to face him? He wanted him dead, but he needed him. A sickness rose up his throat to that realization. He needed Lucifer; his tormentor.
Sam walked out to the library, Rowena sitting all alone with her nose stuck in one of the spellbooks.
”Can't sleep there Samuel?” she looked up to him. ”I can give you something for that.”
”No thanks, ” he shook his head. He couldn't risk taking something that would distract him from what was to happen next. ”Where’s-”
”They are in the kitchen, ” she interjected. ”Having some sort of family meeting.”
Sam walked towards the kitchen, the pit in his stomach not going away.
”Your plan was ludicrous, ” Cas was stating to Gabriel. ”How could you do that to her?”
”And do what else? Hmm Cassie? Let her be used as Michael or Lucifer’s plaything? No thanks, ” Gabriel stopped himself as soon as he saw Sam enter. ”Hey there slugger. Couldn't sleep?”
”No, ” Sam replied sharply. ”Are you talking about Y/N?”
”No.”
”Yes, ” Cas darted his eyes to Gabriel.
”Fine, yes, ” he rolled his eyes. ”Cas doesn't like that I kept her a secret.”
”We could have used her to get rid of Lucifer once and for all!” Cas glared hard at his older brother. ”This could have ended years ago.”
”Cas, ” Sam breathed out with a disappointed sigh. ”How could you think of using Y/N like that? Giving her up to Michael?”
”Not Michael, him, ” Cas glared at Gabriel. ”He could have trained her properly and stopped them both.”
”I'm a lover, not a fight there Cassidy, ” Gabriel smirked. ”Plus, I'm not her type. It was the Winchester’s that she was destined for, not the archangels. No matter which way you look at it, she belongs next to one of them.”
”Where is Y/N and Dean anyway, ” Sam spoke up, looking around the room. He felt uncomfortable that there was a discussion of Y/N’s destiny without her present.
”She left with Dean.”
”Probably getting in their last chance of nookie before all hell comes home, ” Gabriel stated nonchalantly. ”Not a bad idea if I do say myself. Maybe that is what you need, Cas. You need to be laid.”
”I do not require coitus, ” Cas glared.
”Don't knock it until you try it, little brother, ” Gabriel smirked. ”After this is done, maybe we should take a trip somewhere warm. I know a bunch of friendly porn stars.”
”Sam?” Sam turned his head to Dean with Y/N draped under his arm. ”Everything good here?”
”Yes, ” he lied, trying to avoid Y/N’s glare.
”Liar, ” she spoke up. ”What now?”
”Old Cassie wants you to take down Lucifer, ” Gabriel chimed in.
Cas’ eyes widened to Y/N, almost like he feared what her response would be.
”You think I could Gabe?” she asked, almost like she had been wondering the same.
”Possible, ” he shrugged. ”You pack one hell of a punch there kid. You've gotten me a few times. As long as he isn't joyriding Sam, it could happen.”
”Joyriding Sam?” she glanced over to Sam, the bile was rising in his throat again.
”Winchesters are your weakness my dear, ” Gabriel gave her a funny look. ”I thought you would have figured that out by now?”
Everyone’s eyes shifted around the room. Sam watched Y/N stood there in confusion. Gabriel let out an audible sigh as he reached over for a kitchen knife.
”Let me see your hand, ” he motioned to her.
”You're crazy, ” Dean barked, moving in front of her. ”You're not hurting her.”
”Relax Romeo. I'm just showing you why I've kept Y/N away. Why during the big battle royale, she couldn't be anywhere near. Not without dying at least.”
Sam watched as she placed her hand gingerly on Dean’s back to move him out of the way. She held up her hand as Gabriel took it in his. With a brief hesitation, he slid the blade across her palm nickingit just enough for blood to slowly drip from the wound.
”What’s that going to prove?” Dean growled.
”Give it a second.”
Everyone watched as the cut closed itself off. Within seconds it was perfectly healed with no trace that it had been there.
”Deeper ones tend to leave scars, ” Gabriel confessed. ”She is human after all.”
”So she can heal quickly? What's the point?” Dean snarked.
”Your turn big boy, ” Gabriel handed him the knife. ”Don't cut too deep. Do the same as I did.”
Dean took it from him with hesitation. Sam watched as he hovered the knife over Y/N’s palm. She looked as though her breath had stopped until it glided over her hand. There was blood, slowly trickling, not stopping. Over a minute had passed and no change.
”Cas, ” Gabe bumped into his arm. ”Heal her would you?”
Cas didn't hesitate to use his grace to heal her wound. Sam along with everyone's eyes turned toward Gabriel.
”Sam can try too, but I think I've made my point. You can heal from almost any type of wound, human and otherwise pretty rapidly. If Michael or Lucifer were to be in their true vessels, you would have been dead, kid, ” Gabriel looked to Y/N. ”But I think you already knew that.”
”I didn't know how bad it was, ” she wiped the blood off with a towel. ”I just knew things were different.”
”So the other day when we fought…” Dean started with a look of guilt.
”It hurt like a bitch, ” she smiled. ”But that wasn't the first time I suspected something.”
”Rough sex?” Gabe wiggled his eyebrows causing Y/N to give him a hard look before sheepishly shifting her eyes to Dean.
”I-I didn't know I had hurt you, ” He quietly admitted in a whisper that only you could hear.
”It's fine, ” she smiled at him, laying a hand on his shoulder. ”Now we know why, which is great news.”
”How is any of this great news?” Cas raised his brow.
”Because as long as Sam doesn't go crazy and say yes, then I'm safe. I can hold back Lucifer until we are done with him, ” she looked over to Sam who was gazing at the ground. ”And then, we will kill him. Make him pay for the damage he has caused. Once and for all.”
____
“Has Rowena and Gabriel tracked him yet?” You asked Dean who was busy packing his bag filled with various weapons for the trip.
“I guess so,” he stated while holding a darkened glass bottle.
“Holy water?”
“Holy oil,” he responded. “Arch angels hate it.”
“Good to know.”
“Just have to be prepared for anything,” he sighed as he put it in the bag. “We don’t know what is happening over there right now.”
“Well you should take this too,” you lifted an angel blade up. “Just in case.”
“Yeah,” he nodded as he grabbed it from you.
You watched as his light shifted more and more as the time went by. Anger? Fear? Doubt? It was all so hard to tell.
“You alright there?”
“I’m fine,” he smiled back a tight lipped smile. “I just want to get this over with.
“Well let’s go see what they’re doing,” you held out your hand to his.
He placed his own hand in yours as the two of you walked out. Sam and Cas were just outside the hall talking to one another.
“You ready?” Sam looked to Dean.
“Are you ready?” Dean lifted his brows to Sam with caution in his voice.
At that moment you heard a muffled sound, coming from the library. It sounded like someone was dying. You had asked what that was, to which no one knew an answer. The four of you walked out to the library only to see Gabriel and Rowena in a position no one should ever see.
“I’m going to be sick,” you grimaced.
“Hey, so, um yeah. You ready?” Gabriel smiled as he put on his pants.
“Seriously?” You snarked. “You couldn’t wait or go to the bedroom?”
“All of you were taking so long,” he tried to justify his actions. “Plus, you can't stop this kitten.”
“Gross.”
“Let’s go,” Dean commanded as he rolled his eyes.
“Hey,” you placed your hand on his chest. “Be safe okay?”
He leaned in to give you a warm, soft kiss. As he pulled away he told you that they would be right back. You knew they would, but the shutter of doom still rolled off your body because you knew who they’d be back with.
____
“Okay, so the plan one more time- Sam. Hey, Sam.”
Sam shook himself out of his thoughts as he looked over to Dean giving him a furrowed look.
“You good?“
“Yeah,” he lied. His stomach was in knots. He wanted to vomit everywhere just thinking of what was happening next.
As his brother continued on with the plan, he kept his head nodding in agreement to it. What choice did he have? This was it. No options. He just kept hoping that Y/N was right that at the end of it, someway, somehow, Lucifer was going to be gone once and for all.
_____
You did your best to set up everything that was needed as you waited for them. Laying out all the ingredients Rowena had instructed in a meticulous order, you looked back at it with a smile. If you couldn’t go with them to the dark unknown, this was at least you could do.
You heard your phone chime with a message. Pulling it out of your pocket you sat down as the message laid across the screen.
haven’t seen you in the office lately. Hope your boy toy isn’t doing anything stupid. ~Nat.
You rolled your eyes to her message. The IT demon who apparently wanted, or more expected you to check in. Your fingers glided across the screen, sending your message back.
Busy with lecture prep. Figured it would be better for everyone if I just did it at home.
Only a moment after clicking send, another chime arrived. You breathed out deep as you looked at your phone again.
Lebanon is home now I see. Don’t forget your deal.
I haven’t.
You dropped your phone down to the table as you decided that maybe you could do more prep for your classes. It was busy work, but that was what you needed as your nerves tensed up. They had been gone a while. They should be back soon.
After a couple edits and getting lost going through old YouTube videos you heard your phone chim again. You sighed out in annoyance, thinking that she wasn’t just leaving you alone, but your heart stopped as you saw the message.
We have him. Is everything ready? ~ Sam
All set.
We will be there in 10. ~Sam
For a moment you had forgotten to breathe. You had to remind yourself to exhale and inhale again. This was it. They were going to go over there for sure.
A little after 10 minutes you watched as Dean and Sam dragged a blonde man in. He had Piercing blue eyes that penetrated your soul, his light was as bright as Gabriel’s, but yet filled with so much darkness.
“Lucifer,” the words escaped your lips in a whisper.
“Ready?” Dean asked Rowena as she quickly put together the ingredients of the spell.
“Almost,” she stated.
You didn’t move. You couldn’t even make yourself move. His mouth was gagged, but his eyes spoke a million words as he stared at you.
“You good?” You heard Sam ask as he carried his and Dean’s bags into the room from behind you.
“Yeah,” you muttered out, looking at him. He was scared. They all were. Not one glimmer of hope amongst them. This was wrong. Something wrong was going to happen.
“Here,” Sam handed you an angel blade. “You may need this.”
“Thanks,” you responded as you grabbed it.
“It’s ready,” Rowena spoke, her words sounding more like the call of doom than anything.
You watched as they all walked over to the center of the room. Dean slung his back back on his shoulder as Sam fastened his own.
“Hey,” you called out, making them turn to you. “Give them hell and come back alive,” you said with as much confidence as you could muster.
They all nodded to you as they turned back around, Dean giving you a slight smile before. Rowena moved to Lucifer, slicing his throat open with her blade. You watched as his grace trickled down into the gauntlet. With a few words a bright portal opened in front of your eyes. They didn’t hesitate. One by one they all walked through leaving you alone now with not only a witch, but the devil himself.
______
“So why didn’t you say goodbye?” Sam looked over to his brother, awaiting his response as they trudged through the dirt path, on their way to the survivor camp.
“Because it isn’t goodbye Sam,” Dean continued to look forward as he walked. “I’ll see her again soon.”
“You don’t have to act like such a tough guy Dean,” Sam shook his head with a smirk. “It’s alright to like her and act like it.”
“Shut up,” Dean stifled his chuckle. “Bitch.”
“Jerk.”
“So how long do you suppose it will be until dark?” Dean turned his head to the sky.
“10, 12 hours by the way the sun looks. That is, if it’s like ours.”
“Here’s to hoping,” Dean fixed the bag on his shoulder again.
“So what do you think mom is going to say?” Sam spoke up again after a few minutes.
“About?”
“About us being here. About Y/N.”
“Well if she says anything but thank you, not going to lie I may be a little salty,” Dean glanced back to Cas and Grabiel talking amongst themselves and turned his head back to the road. “As for Y/N, I hope to god she doesn’t say anything crazy like we’re cousins.”
“We’ve had crazier stuff happen,” Sam chuckled lowly.
“Like what?” Dean gave him a scrunched up face.
“Anything involving a certain someone back there,” Sam motioned with his thumb behind him to Gabriel.
“Still hard to believe that he was behind a lot of this,” Dean gave another quick glance behind him. “Who would have thought, he actually cares about something other than himself.”
“Every day is a new surprise,” Sam shook his head. “That’s just our life, Dean. Never a dull moment. But what we do, we keep going. No stopping. Eventually, it all works out in the end.”
“Well just keep your head in the game there Sammy,” Dean’s gaze looked into the woods along the trail. “We’re in uncharted territory full of spooky shit and angels who are out to murder people just for breathing. Anything can happen and I don’t like surprises.”
_______
For the last three hours you prayed for silence. Lucifer was relentless in humming the muffled version of “it’s a small world.” You tried to just ignore him like your companion. She didn’t seem to mind, but with all that hair on her head, you wondered if she had placed ear plugs in when you weren’t looking.
“Fuck,” you rasped out. “I can’t take this.”
“You never had children did you dearie?” She looked up from her book with a smirk.
“Definitely not,” you glared at her. “How can you stand this?”
“In about an hour's time, I get to slit his throat once more for the spell to make sure it stays open,” she grinned. “That knowledge helps.”
“Well I need a fucking beer or something,” you groaned as you stood up. “Are you alright here for a minute?”
“I’m fine dear.”
You walked out to the kitchen, pulling out a beer from the fridge. After twisting off the cap, you leaned against the counter, lifting it to your mouth to take in a deep sip. It’s only been three hours. How the hell were you going to last more than a day?
You stood in silence, there was an echo in the halls of Lucifer now switching it up to the fucking song from Lamb chop, a kids show that you wished you could forget. The show always played whenever you had to go to see the doctor, only to realize later that it was a psychiatrist that your mother had sent you to for many years. No wonder you grew up interested in it. You spent so many of your years being analyzed, of course you would grow to analyze everyone else. That’s when it hit you. How would he know what the song would do to you? Could he read your thoughts? Fuck.
You walked back out and without thinking smacked him hard against his head.
“Shut up now or I’ll make you,” you warned.
He looked at you, the creases in his eyes turning to satisfaction. He had gotten under your skin. That’s what he wanted. Dammit Dean. Get back now so you could end this jerk.
_____
Dean’s heart was heavy. Sam. How could he have left him behind? How could he have let his brother down like that? Cas tried his best to console him, but it was no use. Sam was dead and there was no saving him.
“It’s not much further,” he heard his companions say.
He felt his feet grow heavy. He didn’t want to continue. He didn’t want to walk on. He was tired and defeated already. Without Sam, he was missing a piece of himself. A piece no one could ever replace. Cas must have seen what it was doing to him as he helped to guide Dean along with his hand on his back.
“We must continue,” he heard Cas speak.
Dean nodded as they walked on. Thinking of what Sam had said to him all those hours ago. ‘It’s what we do, we keep going. No stopping. Eventually, it all works out in the end.’ This was the end alright and Dean felt like he was walking it alone.
_____
“I have to use the loo,” Rowena stated as she stood up carefully from her seat. “Will you be alright?”
You had just arrived back in the room, after your mandatory power nap that was more of a lay awake and smelling Dean’s pillow session. You missed him more than you wanted to admit. Sixteen hours in. A million more to go. At least, that’s what it felt like until he would return. After giving her a nod, you sat down and watched the clock strike minute by minute, hoping that time could speed up.
You glanced over at Lucifer who was in the same position. At least he was kept at bay and the humming had stopped. You rubbed your hands across your face, attempting to wake yourself up more. It didn’t help. You were still stuck in this nightmare.
“I know what you are,” you heard a male voice say in an eerie tone that brought shivers down your spine.
You glanced up to see that Lucifer had managed to ungag himself. He was smirking at you, his eyes shining red for a moment.
“Shut up.”
“I didn’t know about you there Y/N,” he commented. “You seem like my type of girl. Made just for me.”
“I said shut it!” You yelled again.
“How does it feel knowing what you are?” He continued. “Knowing what you are meant to become?”
“I swear if you don’t-“
“Shut up?” He raised his brow with his smirk rising. “I don’t think you really want me to. I think you’d rather hear about dear old grandpa and grandma. How were they chosen?”
“I already know dickwad,” you seethed. “Your pet, Abaddon.”
“They had strong blood coursing through them. Direct descendents from Cain himself. Now he knew how to make a deal.”
“Now you’re turning biblical? What’s next? You going to tell me that I’m related to Jesus or some shit?”
“Jesus was a carpenter,” he replied. “You come from a strong line of warriors. Ones that have always benefited my family.”
“Great and your point?” You snarked back.
“You were meant for so much more than playing babysitter. Just look at you. No wonder my brother kept you hidden from me. You're a beautiful creature, capable of tearing down God himself.”
“If I’m that powerful, you should probably try not to piss me off then,” you glared at him hard. “A body holds 1 ½ gallons of blood. I’m sure that’s around the same amount of grace you have in there. Don’t think that I won’t drain you so we can toss you back to the pit where you belong.”
“Is that a promise?” His eyes twinkled as he looked at you.
“You’re trying to distract me,” you realized. “Find out what makes me tick. It’s not going to work. You aren’t going anywhere. And when this is done, I will kill you myself.”
“Why would you want to do that when I can give you what you want?”
“And what do I want?” You sighed out in annoyance.
“You’re family back,” he simply replied.
“I have all the family I need,” you shook your head, your brows scrunching down. “I have Dean, Sam...”
“Your mother?” His words made your heart skip. “I can see what you truly want. Dear old mommy back, along with your father. Both of them. The one you knew and the one you never had a chance to meet. I can bring them all back.”
“You’re lying.”
“I’m not just some regular Joe angel,” he quipped. “I can do things that you couldn’t even imagine, including bringing back people from the deepest parts of heaven or hell.”
You felt a knot growing in your stomach. Could he really do that? Could he bring them back? How? Gabriel never told you an archangel could do that, but then of course, why would he? What is dead should stay dead. But your mom and your dad, what you wouldn’t give to feel their arms wrapped around you again. And Bobby, the man you never knew. To be able to talk to him, tell him all about yourself and learn who he was truly beyond the stories of everyone’s memory. You started to contemplate what Lucifer was suggesting. No. You couldn’t. It’s not right.
“Is everything alright in here?” Rowena’s voice shook you out of your thoughts.
“Fine”, you replied quickly, standing up at the same time. “I need to go for a run for a bit. Get some things. Will you be alright?”
“Yes,” she stated, looking at Lucifer with suspicion. “It’s about time again for another cut.”
You didn’t bother to respond as you collected your things and made your way to Dean’s room to grab your keys. You needed fresh air. You needed to leave here. It was the only way to get it off of your mind.
Sliding into your car you laid your head back in the seat. Tears followed through your eyes almost in an instance as the door shut. Dammit. This was too much. They were taking too long. Why weren’t they back yet?
You brought your baby to life and pulled out of the garage. The wind whipping through your hair as you drive along, the radio playing a familiar tune. Home. This felt like home again. Away from the chaos and turmoil. The road, your baby, and you. No place like it.
______
“You know without my brother at full strength, your boys won’t stand a chance against Michael.”
Rowena let out an annoyed sigh to Lucifer’s continuous warnings.
“I mean, I’ve been over there. It’s not very pleasant. And Michael, this world's Michael, was nothing compared to that one. He’s ruthless. He makes me look like a Boy Scout.”
Rowena continued to ignore him, but he didn’t give up. She glanced at the clock. It had only been about five minutes since Y/N had left. Poor dear. She had heard what Lucifer was promising her. She knew how much it hurt to lose someone that was a part of you. Only weeks ago she had tried herself to regain her son, a task that had failed miserably.
“But who am I to say what will happen, ya know?” He continued. “It’s not like I’m an expert on killing powerful creatures or anything. Like your son. He went down quick, like a slice of butter.”
“Attempting to bring up my son will do you no good,” she warned. “I’m not afraid of you. I know my death and it’s not by your hand.”
“Oh really?” He smirked. “Let me guess, plague? A little too much eye of newt in your cauldron?”
“Sam Winchester will be the one to end me,” you glared at him. “And you are no Sam Winchester. You only wish that you could be him.”
“You forget,” his smirk widened. “I was him once. He had said yes. And if given the right circumstances, he would say yes again. Your prophecy may be correct, but who’s to say that it will be Sam holding the cards?”
“You keep going on about all the power that you hold, but who was the one that was found lost and cowering away? No one wants you around, not even your son. You speak of my son as though he was weak, but who stood up to you? Hmm? Who stood to protect those he cares about even when he knew he would not win? You talk about power. Family is power. And that, my dear Lucifer is one thing you will never have. No one cares about you or will cry when you are gone.”
Lucifer’s eyes glowed intensely with red. In an instance he had managed to move from his spot and rush his hand across Rowena's throat, threatening her life. In a desperate act of survival she pushed him away, only for him to disappear in the rift.
“Bollocks,” she seethed as she grasped the edge of the table to stabilize herself. She looked over to the gauntlet, it still had grace inside of it. But how much longer would it last? Did she just send them all to their death?
“Bollocks.”
_____
You laid out on the hood of your car. You were in the same spot that Dean had taken you just the night before. You watched the sun go down slowly and the birds hide within the outstretched branches of the trees above you to nestle with their family. Why did it feel so awkward being alone again? This was what you were used to. Just you and your car, taking on the word mile by mile. Now it felt more like you were stranded, unknowing what the next day, hour, or minute might bring.
You picked up your phone, to check if there had been some sort of message sent. With a bare screen, you checked to see if you had reception. Full bars and not one new notification to be found. Was this going to be the rest of your life? Waiting around for someone to tell you that everything was okay? You sat it down besides you and rested your head down on the windshield with your arm hooked behind your neck. Whatever tomorrow brings, at least you got to watch the sunset one more time.
______
“We got to get out of here, now,” Dean growled as he darted his eyes to Lucifer standing in the distance. “Without him.”
“Dean,” Mary places her hand on his chest to soothe him. “He saved Sam and Michael is out there. We need him.”
“Mom’s right,” Sam breathed out heavy. “We can't piss him off now. We have to keep moving, but if Michael shows up, we are all dead.”
Dean growled lowly to the thought of Lucifer joining them. He had saved Sam, yes. But at what cost? What did he want?
“We will take care of him later Dean,” Sam whispered so only the three of them could hear. “Just like our plan. Y/N can help.”
“Y/N?” Mary’s brows squished together.
“Y/M/N’s daughter, mom,” Sam informed her. “She found us.”
“Y/M/N? Is she with her?” Her voice broke as she spoke.
“I’m sorry mom,” Dean shook his head. “She died while you’ve been here. Y/N, well, Y/N was looking for her father, Bobby.”
“Bobby Singer?” Mary asked softly.
“You knew?” Dean furrowed his eyes.
“We knew him growing up, but I didn’t know that was her father,” Mary sighed. “Y/M/N would never tell me who it was, just that it was something she had to keep a secret.”
“Why? Why keep her a secret? Especially from Bobby?”
“Because of her past and well…,” Mary’s eyes gazed over towards the alternate reality Bobby as she spoke. “Because Bobby, our Bobby had it bad as a kid. He swore he would never have any.”
“Yeah well he got a bouncing baby badass,” Dean let out a breathy chuckle.
“What do you mean?” Mary looked up to Dean.
“The family curse,” he glanced around to make sure no one was listening. “Y/N got it. She’s amazing, mom. She…”
“You love her don’t you?” Mary smirked.
“That’s to say the least,” Sam smiled and playfully shoved at his brother.
“Yeah, well let’s get moving,” Dean cleared his throat. “I’d like to get back to her. I don’t believe for one second Lucifer didn’t harm her. There was no way he got over here without a fight.”
“So what’s the plan?” Dean heard Cas from behind him, Jack in toe.
“Get the hell out of this world and go see my girl,” Dean stated as calmly as he could. Was Y/N alright? Did Lucifer tell the truth by saying that she was alright? Couldn’t be. If she wasn’t hurt, knowing her, she’d be right behind him trying to stop him. The thought made his stomach sick. Y/N alone in the apocalypse world, fighting against the evil that lurked. And Michael. If Michael found her he’d lose her for sure. No, they had to get moving. Time was running out.
“Hey Bobby, what can you tell me about that bus?”
______
“Rowena, I’m back, ” you shouted as you entered the library only to discover she was alone and panicking. ”What the hell?”
”He escaped, I tried to stop him-”
”The rift, it's going to close!” you shouted back as you ran to it. ”Dean, Sam. I have to go find them.”
”I need your help.”
”How?” you breathed out. ”What can I do.”
”Your blood seems to keep it moving, but not for long, ” your eyes furrowed to her. You caught a glimpse of the empty vial next to her. ”I need more.”
Without hesitation you grabbed at a knife besides her and cut your wrist open sideways, dripping it inside the gauntlet. The rift grew brighter.
”Where is he?” your voice trembled, fearing the worst.
”In there, ” her eyes moved to the rift. ”With them.”
”I have to warn them!” you went to move towards it but her shout stopped you in your tracks.
”Stop! They can't come back without you being here! I need you here to keep it open.”
”But Lucifer-”
”They will be fine. He just wants his son. They'll return, but I need you here, ” she warned you.
”Fuck!” you seethed. ”How long has it been?”
”About two hours.”
”If that rift starts to fade and this doesn't work I am going in, ” you shot her back a hard look.
” Let's pray that doesn't happen.”
_____
“We’re getting close now,” Dean stated to his comrades as his eyes scanned the area.
“Everyone needs to be ready,” Sam informed everyone as he readjusted the knife on his thigh.
“What-“ stammered a girl to his left. “What is on the other side?”
“Our home,” Sam replied with a comforting smile. “Our friend Y/N is there waiting for you. She will protect you. Just listen to her.”
“And him?” Bobby nodded to Lucifer driving the bus.
“Once everyone is through, I will take care of him,” Sam’s eyes stayed on him.
——-
Rowena was continuously reciting her spell as you sliced into your palm, allowing the blood to drip down into the gauntlet. The rift was open, but it was getting weaker.
“Hurry Dean,” you said to yourself before turning to Rowena. “It’s not working! I have to go in.”
“Just wait!” She shouted back before continuing.
The seconds that passed seemed like hours until you watched as a person walked through, and then another. None of them being Dean or Sam. As the people continued crossing over you got up from your seat, frantic to know why they weren’t leading everyone in. It wasn’t until you saw a familiar, yet frightened, face that you knew something had to be going on.
“Mary,” you shouted to her attention. “Where are they?”
“Michael,” she gasped. “He’s there-“
You didn’t even let her finish her sentence before you sliced open your hand deeper for more blood to drop down to then quickly turn to the rift.
“I have to get them,” was all you said before you heard the cries to stop. It was too late though, you already crossed over.
The light, the sun trying to illuminate the grey sky blurred your vision as your feet hit the dead ground below you. There were people continuing to push past you to the rift. You stood tall calling out for Dean.
“Dean!”
“Y/N!” He yelled back as he rushed over to you.
“Get her out of here!” Gabriel yelled back with a look of pure fear. The look in his eyes was not one you had ever seen as the bright light approached him with a menacing grin. Michael.
“Go!” Dean yelled at you again, trying to push you to the rift.
“Not without everyone!” you snapped back, attempting to push your way past him. In the midst of your struggle you saw it; Michael stabbing Gabriel with his blade. The light leaving him forever.
“No!”
“Go!” Dean yelled again, pushing you back into the rift with full force. Your strength was no match at the moment for him. Dean had successfully pushed you back to the bunker amongst all the people running for their lives.
“Dean!” You called out as you scrambled to your feet.
A step away from the rift and you felt someone pulling back on your shoulder to stay. Looking back you saw blue eyes on an aging man’s face, desperately begging you to stay. A face you had only seen in pictures. The face of the man you had so desperately wanted to meet. The reason for all of this.
“Let me go Bobby!”
“No!” He barked as he continued to hold you. “Just wait!”
You listened to him. You don’t know why but you did. Tears flowing down as you watched lights enter one by one. Ketch. Cas. Charlie. You didn’t even realize you stopped breathing until you saw Dean’s light enter.
“Dean!” You pushed through to him, wrapping your arms around him tightly, smelling the musk of sweat, dirt, and blood.
“I told you I’d be back,” he responded as he held you closely.
“Where’s Sam?” You asked as you pulled away.
“Handling things,” he said as his eyes hit the rift.
“Dean-“ just at that moment Sam entered. Covered in the same mess as his brother. Beaten, but not defeated. You let go of Dean to wrap your arms around Sam. You didn’t even know what he had just done, but you could tell that a weight was lifted. His darkness was gone.
“We good?” Dean asked.
Sam looked behind him as the rift disappeared in a flash. With a smile he turned back to you and Dean.
“We’re good.”
_____
Dean watched as everyone talked to one another. A mixture of new and old faces of family. They were safe. They were home. He smiled as he watched Charlie and Y/N talk to one another. It appeared as though it did not matter that this Charlie was not theirs, she was still the same person that could make anyone smile with her nerd references that he was sure Y/N probably understood.
Bobby walked to the landing of the stairs, addressing his people that this was not the end of their journey, but a new adventure. When he lifted his glass to thank and welcome Dean and Sam to the family, Dean couldn’t help but smile. Family. He had all that he could ever want right here.
____
“Nice to see you again, Y/N,” Mary spoke behind you, making you turn to her with a smile.
“Mary,” you replied. “Glad to see you too.”
“Dean told me what had happened,” her smile faded and her light changed to sadness. “I’m so sorry.”
“You know, I want to be mad at her,” you replied while thinking of your mother and your life full of lies. “And Gabriel for that matter. But I can’t. Without them, protecting me, who knows what would have happened? I just wish…I wish that I could have met my father. My real one.”
“Well he may not be your real one,” her eyes glanced towards Bobby. “But I can say that they have the same spirit.”
“I don’t even know what to say. I’ve rehearsed it in my mind so many times, but yet, nothing I can think of seems right.”
“Try hello first,” she warmly smiled back. “And although we aren’t blood, I’ve always considered your mother to be my sister. If there is anything I can do, perhaps talk about her life, I will.”
“Thank you Mary,” you softly replied before giving her a hug.
“Your family Y/N,” she whispered. “And perhaps one day, even my daughter.”
You pulled back from her slowly to see her smirk. Dean must have told her everything, including his feelings for you. It was at that moment that you felt something inside of you change. A warmth that felt like you have been put back together. You were whole. What you had been missing, you finally found. Family. Your true family.
_____
The warm water felt amazing on his skin. The droplets easing his stiff muscles, the steam clearing his mind. He was home. Home and safe, with her. He opened his eyes to see her standing across from him, naked with a smile. They didn’t even need to say words as he pulled her close to him, the water hitting both of them as she buried her head into his chest. This was home.
After cleaning each other, Dean and Y/N got dressed and went back out to the library where everyone still gathered eating a feast that was prepared. Smiling faces all chattering filled the once empty halls with life. This is what home feels like.
Y/N went to continue walking in, but Dean stopped her by pulling back on her wrist. She looked at him puzzled, but reluctantly moved back to him.
“What’s wrong?”
“Just enjoying the moment.”
“Well come on,” she laughed. “Let's join them.”
“Not yet,” he sighed with nervousness. “There’s something I need to do.”
“Which is?” Her brow raised with her question. Dean smiled at her irritation while she patiently waited. That attitude of hers that matched his own.
“Spend forever with you,” he said as he pulled out the silver ring that was once his mothers that he wore for many years for protection. Her eyes widened as she realized what he was proposing.
“Forever?” Her eyes lit up with her words.
“You’re already a Winchester,” he smiled. “How about we make it official?”

Do you ever remember me, baby
Did it feel so good
'Cause it was just the first time
And you knew you would
The roadhouse was looking like it was just winding down. There were only a few cars in the lot when you pulled up. Most likely just a few stray hunters not sure where to go next. None of them looked like Bobby’s beat up van. The thought of Dean driving it sure was amusing.
Inside the stale smell of cigarettes and whiskey hit you quickly. It was like a second home when you were off traveling around, especially when you were trying to ignore Bobby. There were two guys practically passed out at the table in the corner. Three guys by the pool table arguing about something. Last but not least Ash leaning over the bar to fill up his glass when he thought no one was looking.
“Y/N!” He grinned with a wobble. “I was just being a gentleman and pouring this for the most beautiful girl who ever walked in our fine doors.”
“Sure ya were,” you grabbed the beer and took a long sip. “Where’s Ellen and Jo?”
“Y/N!” Jo’s voice sprung up behind you, coming at you quickly to give you a big hug. “Happy birthday!”
“Yes! Salutations! Let’s drink,” Ash stated lifting a glass in cheers while leaning over to fill it up.
“I think you’ve had enough there Ash,” Ellen warned while coming out of the kitchen, making him sit down his beer. “Don’t you have some project you promised them Winchester boys?”
“Right, demon tracking,” he stuttered with a point of his finger. “On it!”
Ash stumbled back to his hideaway, making the three of you shake your heads with a laugh. Winchester boys? Demon tracking? Yup, they’ve been here and you needed to know more.
“What’s this now? He’s tracking demons? It’s not that hard,” you slyly commented while taking a sip of your beer knowing that one specific one was hard as hell to track down.
“Don’t you worry about that,” Ellen sternly warned. “Happy birthday darlin. Drinks on the house.”
“Couch in the back available too?”
“For you, always. It’s near closing time,” she nodded to Jo. “The two of you will have all night to chat after we get the rest of these guys out and finish closing up.
You had offered to help, but of course she declined. One of Ellen’s rules when it came to her customers- she was the boss. She always did last call because if they dared to disagree with her, she would show them her mean side. It was not pretty. Her mom glare was worse than staring down at a hungry and growling wendego.
After an hour or so you were on your 3rd drink. The last guy had finally stumbled out, allowing Jo to lock the door behind him. She looked unimpressed by whatever lines he had been spitting out
“Not Mr. Right huh?” You laughed while watching her walk over to sit next to you.
“I don’t get these hunters that think that they can get into my pants by telling me all about their gun collection and latest kills. Be a real man and take a girl out, show her good time in the action.”
“Mom still giving you grief about going out?”
“Of course,” she rolled her eyes while leaning over the counter to pull out a bottle of jack to hand to you. “Anyways; happy birthday.”
“Thanks,” you replied while twisting the top off and pouring out two glasses.
The two of you continued to go on talking. You had gotten her on the subject of her mom for a bit to distract her from noticing that your drinks were lasting longer than hers. You wanted to know more about the Winchester’s visit and what Ash was doing in the back. Poor Jo was easy to get gossiping once she started drinking.
“Anywho; today when I asked her who this Winchester guy was and his two sons, she told me it was just an old friend of my dads. Pretty sure she’s hiding something there.”
“John Winchester?” You coyly asked, pretending to not know.
“Yeah that was his name. You know them?”
“Heard of ‘em,” you lied. You didn’t want to tell her that you knew them, especially given the way that everything seemed to be a secret about their arrival.
“Guess he died somehow and his sons are looking for what killed him,” she downed the last of her glass, prompting you to fill it some more. “Sad really. I guess it also killed their mom.”
“So why would they show up here?”
“My mom called their dad a while back when Ash got an idea for some alg-o...algor-,” she slurred for a moment. “Whatever. Program to track demons. Guess she thought she could help. They got the message and showed up. Gave Ash all their dad’s research to figure it out. Pretty cute though.”
Her comment made a slight chuckle come out of you as you took a sip of your drink. Yeah, Dean and Sam were definitely cute. It’d be dumb of you to think that Jo wouldn’t think so as well given the rough guys that typically pass through.
“Dean started to hit on me, but coward out for some reason,” her statement caught you a little by surprise, making you give her a raised eyebrow. “Wrong place, wrong time was what he said. Whatever that means.”
There was a feeling of relief that he had stopped himself. Maybe besides the fact that he was looking for a demon he decided to not go through it because of you. You shook off the thought as you lifted your glass again to drink. Jo was a pretty girl and Dean was sure handsome. Neither one of them had a literal doomsday clock counting down, why would it be a bad thing for them to hook up? Maybe have a little hunter romance?
“Sounds like a genuine guy,” you sighed a little. “Maybe give him a chance.”
“Maybe,” Jo sighed while leaning her head on her hand, slowly falling closer to a drunk sleep.
“Where are they now?”
“A hunt, some clown thingy,” she yawned. “I was going to give it to you, but mom gave it to them instead.”
Clowns: Sammy hates clowns. The thought made you chuckle again. That’d be an interesting case to watch.
“Any idea when they are returning? I might have to put this Dean guy in his place if he passes up a chance with my best friend.”
“At least a day or two more,” she yawned again, this time fully laying down her head to sleep.
“Come on you, off to bed.”
You got up and helped her to the back where her room was, assisting her in taking off her shoes to pass out on her fluffy bed. You felt a little bad for letting her get so drunk, but she’d shake it off in the morning.
You had made your way to the little office where the pull out couch was when you caught Ellen at the desk still awake.
“You two have a good night?”
You nodded with a smile as you sat down on the couch, giving a yawn yourself. It had been a long day.
“A year left now,” she stated with a sigh making you nod again. “When are you going to tell her?”
Ellen had been the only other person besides Bobby and John to know about your deal. That was only because she got it out of you the first night you came in battered and bruised because of a damn werewolf. You had been careless and stopped giving a damn because the clock was ticking anyways, why be careful? She saw right through that.
“ I’d rather it just go on like it has been,” you replied. “When the time comes, I died in a hunt. That’s the story. It happens all the time and will be a reminder of what happens to the people we leave behind.”
She nodded her head in agreement. She didn’t like it, but she agreed that it was the last option.
“What if you find this thing though? The same thing the Winchester’s are looking for?” Her question catching you by surprise. “I know you know them. They grew up with Bobby too didn’t they?”
“Yes ma’am.”
“So what’s with the secret?”
“They don’t know what happened and I want to keep it that way. The soul I traded for mine. It was for John.”
“ You are a damn fool,” she glared before sighing deeply. “I’m sure it was because of them though wasn’t it?”
“It was, now it’s just all apart of a cosmic joke,” you replied. “He wasn’t supposed to die already.”
“John Winchester was lucky he didn’t die a long time ago. He was reckless and whatever situation he had put you in was asinine on his part. Now I don’t want to speak ill of the dead, but that whole family is cursed.”
“Not the whole family,” you chimed in, making her give you a skeptical glare.
“So which one is it? Hmm? The tall model looking one or the even taller model looking one?” She asked with that motherly knowing glare.
“Dean,” you bit your lip a little thinking about him.
“Be careful there Y/N,” she stated as she sat up from her seat. “We will try to figure this out, but you don’t have that much time. Don’t get yourself hurt these last remaining days. Life’s too short for heartache.”
“Yeah,” you mumbled as you yawned while laying down. “It’s definitely not long enough.”
“I’ll keep your secret, but she’s going to find out someday. Don’t you worry about it today sweetheart. We will figure this out,” she clicked off the light at the end of her words. “Happy birthday again.”
The next day, after you woke with a slight hangover you made your way over to the bar. Jo was hunched over it drinking Ellen’s hangover cure with another one beside her.
“Why is it that every year for your birthday my head hurts more and more the next day,” she groaned.
“It’s called getting older sweetheart,” Ellen chuckled while wiping out glasses from the other side of the bar. “Drink up, you’ll feel better.”
You took a sip from your remedy. The taste of the cinnamon and ginger mixed with tomato juice and honey was overbearing- but it worked. You contemplated what was going to be your next move. Stay around and admit that you knew the Winchester’s, go back to Bobby’s and lounge around, or say screw it all and head off to Vegas for a while.
“I wonder when the boys will be back,” Jo pondered out loud.
“Don’t you worry about them,” Ellen glanced over at you. “They’re busy with a hunt.”
“And I’m in the midst of this chaos called a tracking system,” you heard Ash add as he came in with a worn notebook filled with John’s handwriting.
“Need help?” You found yourself asking, making Ellen stop to stare at you.
“If you can organize these dates that would be most beneficial,” he slid the notebook to you while opening his laptop. “So far I don’t see a pattern by eyeballing it, but Molly here will find it.”
You took your time going through the papers on an empty table. One by one, trying to gather the dates. One in particular caught your eye. Your 15th birthday. John wrote it carefully down as a demon spotting with a 10 year deal, but he was careful not to say who. In fact, there was no mention of your name anywhere. He hid away what had happened just as much as you had. You would have said it was for your protection, but there were names everywhere else. Maybe he felt guilty? Maybe he didn’t want the boys to ever know.
Flipping through there was another repeat date. This time your 11th birthday with question marks and the words hellhound next to it. Had they made a deal? Or was it something else? That part you may never know, but if Ash wanted a pattern there was at least one- and you were the root of it.
Looking around to see if anyone was watching, you tore the pages out that revolved around you. No need for that minor detail. The dead crop circles and random fires like the one that happened to them should suffice. No need for everyone to look towards you. Not when a freakin demon already clued you in on his diabolical plan all those years ago. You knew the why, now the question was where next?
“I think they’re in order Ash,” you stated a few hours later. “You’re right, doesn’t seem to be a pattern really. Not a consistent one at least.”
“Molly here will figure it out and we will be in demon ass kicking business,” he stated while tapping on the screen of the laptop that was a living Frankenstein of parts muddled together.
You rolled your eyes at him, knowing that he barely had anything to go on, and while if he did find a pattern it was going to take a while. Especially to then track the demon just in time. What would be next? Who knew?.
“Ellen, Jo!” You called as you walked towards the bar. “I’m going to be heading out!”
“You can’t go yet!” Jo frowned. “Stay around and meet the Winchester’s when they return.”
You glanced over at Ellen quickly who looked annoyed. You knew what was about to happen. Ellen would tell her to stay away and Jo would argue back and rebel.
“You know Jo,” you piped up. “While I’d love to meet these guys, it’s probably for the best to keep a little distance from them.”
Jo gave you a look of disbelief while Ellen gave you a skeptical glare.
“I mean, come on,” you continued. “They have some powerful demon after them. It’s already killed their dad. Who’s to say it won’t go after anyone else.”
“You of all people were the last that I would ever expect to back out because of any danger,” she sneered with confusion and disbelief.
“Yeah well old age I guess,” you laughed it off, glancing at Ellen who gave you a knowing nod. If Jo was going to hate someone’s opinion it was better to come from you. “Just be safe around them.”
“You be safe out there Y/N,” Ellen spoke up with a smile.
“Always.”
Instead of going back to Bobby’s you found yourself going west instead. After a couple hours into Wyoming, for god only knew why, you decided to stop for the night at a hotel. A day just to yourself in a honeymoon suite sounded like just what the doctor ordered. A nice birthday treat for yourself all paid for by Ms. Yamgucci’s visa.
You had just gotten out of a nice hot bath when you heard your phone chime with a message.
Hey. You up?
The number didn’t seem familiar, but had a Kansas area code. You glanced over at the clock; it was roughly 10’oclock where you were. It was late, but not that late for anyone that knew you.
who is this?
Dean. Bobby gave me your number.
Dean? Well this was certainly a surprise. Why the hell would he ask Bobby for your number? Let alone text you?
Oh hey. Yeah, I’m up. Why?
Bored doing a stake out. Killer clowns.
Sounds exciting. And I’m the only person to entertain your boredom? Flattered.
Nah. I was curious about the other night.
What?
I was wondering if we could do it again when we get back.
Your mind raced at what he was talking about. The talking part, the drinking part, or the almost making out in the garage part. Only one way to find out. Your stomach turned as you typed and awaited the answer; hoping it wasn’t the latter.
What part?
It was nice seeing you again and hanging out. Plus we never finished our bet.
You’d lose. Plus, I’m not at Bobby’s anymore.
Where’d ya go?
I’m in some small town that I can’t pronounce in Wyoming right now. Trying to find a case.
Well maybe we can join you.
Maybe. Finish the hunt you’re on first. Let me know when you’re done and I’ll let ya know where I’m at.
Deal. Happy hunting.
You too.
You shut your phone closed as you laid on the bed, daydreaming what could possibly be going on in Dean’s head as he texted you. He had hit on Jo, but then chickened out. Was it possible that he had thought of you? Did he still have feelings for you? What the hell would you do if he did? The questions plagued your mind as they relayed over and over until eventually you passed out.
Nothing but darkness surrounded you, like a cloud of chaos dancing. There were screams of pain mixed with laughter. The darkness slowly began to lift enough for your eyes to catch two yellow ones gleaming in the distance.
“Beautiful,” was all he said with a grin. “Just perfect.”
Your eyes shot open wide in a frantic. It took a moment for them to adjust as you darted your focus all around you. It was just a dream. You were safe in a hotel in Wyoming. So why the hell were you having dreams of the yellow-eyed demon? The darkness that had surrounded you, what was that? And why was he smiling?
You decided to attempt to go to sleep again, which worked for a little while. The image was seared into your brain. Those eyes. Those proud eyes were haunting you.
After getting dressed and checking out, you made your way down the road for an hour or so until you found a little diner. It was an old western tourist attraction for their town, ‘Sunrise.’
The staff was all in very cheesy western gear that looked like they had ransacked Dolly Parton’s collection. They were friendly enough though. One plaque caught your eye, specifically the name on it.
“Home of Samuel Colt,” you muttered out loud.
“Did a lot for this town,” the waitress who overheard you responded. “Helped build railroads that are still active today.”
“Interesting,” you smiled. “I’ll just take an order of bacon and a coffee.”
“Sure thing sweetheart.”
You sat there wondering if it hadn’t been by chance that you had ended up here or that you were having dreams of the demon. You learned that the colt was real. The Winchester’s had it. Had it being the key word. Did they still? Is that what can help you out of your deal, to end that bastard for once and all?
You had decided to look into the town a little bit more, luckily the diner had WiFi which was surprising. After a while of getting lost in the pages you heard your phone chime.
headed to a friend in Nebraska to take care of something for a bit, then heading back to Bobby’s.
Dean’s message was nonchalant. You knew what he was doing with going to the roadhouse, he just didn’t need to know that you knew. With Ellen already watching out for you on if Ash did find something there was no reason to go there, but you did need to know if they still had the colt. Something about this place and Samuel Colt has to be your way out.
Take your time. I think I might head back there as well. No hunts near here.
C u soon.
You sat your phone down and waved to the waitress for your bill. It was going to take them a while to get back to Bobby’s, but you wanted to be there when they did. Clock was ticking. 364 days left.
It was a little after 11 at night when you pulled into the driveway. For a few seconds you took a moment to appreciate the view. Home. Every little imperfection that you had hated when you first laid eyes on it was now just perfect the way they were. It all held a story. The burn mark on the right bannister when you were learning how to make wolfsbane bombs. The missing siding on the left side of the house from when you were learning how to parallel park Bobby’s truck. This was one of the moments you were going to miss. Your heart ached as you glanced over at the spot that Rumsfeld had sat the last time you had seen him. Damn demons. Why always hurt innocent animals?
Bobby was passed out when you got there at his desk, so you didn’t bother to wake him. After so many years, he didn’t wake when he heard you, but you knew he did because a little smile would pull at his lips as he continued to snooze away.
Laying in your bed, you tried to find something to keep you awake, but alas you also succumbed to the sandman only for the harsh light of day to awake you.
“Morning Bobby,” you smiled as you walked to the kitchen.
“Thought I wouldn’t be seeing you for a while?”
“Changed my mind,” you shrugged as you attempted to pour yourself coffee, but there was enough left for a mouse.
“Have anything to do with Sam and Dean coming back in a few hours?” You could hear the skeptical chuckle in his voice.
“We’re out of coffee,” you stated to change the subject.
“Forgot to make a run to the store,” he responded. “Need milk too if you’re running anywhere. Whiskey would be nice.”
You nodded with a smile as you grabbed your keys. Giving him a quick kiss on the cheek, you made your way out.
————-
“Bobby!” Dean called out as he entered the house, Sam trailing behind him.
“Living room.”
“Hey ya Bobby,” Dean smiled. “Where’s Y/N? Thought she’d be here by now?”
“Just missed her,” Bobby replied with a raise of his brow. “She’ll be back soon. What brings you back?”
“Need to work on Baby,” Dean replied while peering through the fridge. “Any grub?”
“Whatever you make,” Bobby snorted while raising his eye to Sam.
Sam just shook his head with a disapproving glare towards Dean. They watched as Dean grabbed a cold piece of pizza out and ate it as he headed out the back.
“He’s not good Bobby,” Sam spoke up. “He says he is dealing with it, but I don’t believe it. I don’t know what to do. All I feel is this guilt and shame of how I treated dad, but Dean? He idolized him.”
“We all deal with things differently, Sam. Some of us think of the past, some the future.”
“That’s what you think he’s doing? Thinking of the future?”
Bobby took in a deep sigh before responding.
“Sam. Some of us know when our time is close to up, especially in this life,” Bobby thought of Y/N and everything he’d been telling himself for 9 years. “Too many lucky breaks start adding up. We can prepare people to live on without us. That’s what John prepared him for. For the day when he wouldn’t be here, but no matter what, when the day comes it still hurts like hell. And the only thing we can think about is time and how long will we survive without them.”
“Tell me what to do Bobby,” Sam pleaded.
“Just give him time,” Bobby replied while patting Sam on the shoulder as he walked out. “Give it time.”

You walked into the front door with grocery bags in your arms. Bobby was standing idly by the kitchen window, staring out intently.
“What’s up Bobby?”you asked as you sat down the bags.
“Boys are back,” he replied without looking. “And they’re falling apart.”
“What?” You asked as you stood next to him to watch what looked like Sam and Dean arguing.
“Dean is doing what he does best, ignoring his feelings and keeping his head on what he can do while Sam is stuck in the what if’s.”
“What’s the plan?” You sighed. “How do we fix them?”
Bobby shook his head with a low chuckle as he looked over to you.
“You don’t remember how stubborn you were when Danny passed away? No one could say or do anything for you. You had to figure it out for yourself,” he nodded to the window as you watched Sam walk away from Dean. “Just like they’ll have to.”
Bobby walked away back to his desk. Sam walked past you and him, going straight to the upstairs without saying a word. You looked back outside to watch Dean pace around before lifting the crowbar in his hands in a rage and smash it against Baby’s trunk. The action shook you. He loved that car. A gift from his dad...his dad’s car. That’s what it was. Everything he couldn’t say to his dad, all the anger was coming out on the one thing that he had left of him. You felt a ping of sadness for him as he continued to smash it against the trunk. He really wasn’t okay. Although Bobby told you to give them time, you knew that was one thing you didn’t have.
“Hey,” you called out as you walked out the door, Dean pacing around with his hands resting on his head. “There’s an easier way to change the trunk out besides smashing it.”
“Not in the mood,” Dean rolled his eyes.
“Good, because neither am I,” you sassed back. “Come on. Get cleaned up. We’re going for a drive.”
“No,” he dropped down his hands to pick the crow bar back up.
“I didn’t think I asked Winchester,” you argued back firmly. “Now come on. We’re losing daylight. I don’t have all year.”
You waited patiently for him outside while smoking a cigarette. He walked out a bit cleaner and gave you a turnt up nose look.
“You smoke?”
“Sometimes,” you shrugged.
“Those will kill you, you know what right?”
“Yeah, this’ll kill me,” you laughed as you put it out with your boot. “Let’s go.”
“Where are we off to?”
“Watertown,” you replied as you opened your car door.
“And why are we driving almost two hours away?”
“If you need to fix a Chevy, ya gotta go see Chevy,” you smiled back making him furrow his eyes to you. “Just get in ya idjit. I’d like us to finish that car before the end of the world.”
“Us?”
“Obviously you need some help and it just so happens that I am well versed in putting back together cars. A hobby someone suggested a long time ago,” you winked, making Dean shake his head while trying to hide his smirk.
The car ride wasn’t horrible; more awkward than anything. He didn’t say a word and you just sang along to the radio. Before you knew it you were at Chevy’s junkyard. Obviously by his name you could always find a piece or two that you needed replaced. Like a bumper a shifter made an imprint in or a new hood from a vampire jumping on it. Never asked questions and always had something for you in stock. He was bound to have something for Baby.
“Look what the cat dragged in,” the old grey haired chubby man smiled as you walked up to his trailer/office. “What’d we break now?”
“Hey Chevy. It’s not for me this time. I need parts for a ‘67 impala. What do you have laying around?” You questioned as you watched his eyebrow raise.
“‘67 huh?” He looked over to Dean. “You wouldn’t happen to be John Winchester’s son would ya?”
“Yes sir,” Dean spoke firmly but cautiously in case this was one of many people who his dad pissed off. “You know him?”
“He’d been here a few times getting stuff to fix up that ‘ol girl of his. Sorry to hear about his passing.”
“Word spreads quick,” Dean rolled his eyes a little.
“Good man, that John,” Chevy went on. “Stubborn as all hell, but one hell of a hunter.”
Dean was obviously getting a bit iterated but the kind words of Chevy; so you decided to step in to change the subject.
“So you got them parts?”
“I got maybe one or two in the back that might work. What all do you need?”
“Almost everything but the frame,” you replied for Dean.
“Well give me a couple of hours and I’ll dig one of ‘em up for you. I’ll even get Ted around here to tow it to Bobby’s. Which I am guessing is where you just came from, it being your birthday and all.”
“Thanks Chevy,” you smiled.
He walked away as you turned away yourself, Dean following closely behind.
“Why didn’t you tell me it was your birthday?”
“Because it’s not.”
“But that guy-“ Dean started to ask while pointing to Chevy’s trailer.
“It was yesterday,” you informed him. “It’s done and over now. Just another day. Ready to head back?”
“Wait, wait,” Dean moved quickly to the front of you to stop you in your tracks. “You mean to tell me that first, I forgot it was your birthday and second, here you are helping me out. No, we’re celebrating.”
“I’m good,” you rolled your eyes, attempting to move past Dean but he stopped you. “What?”
“Come on. It’s the least I could do to say thanks for everything you’ve done.”
“And what have I done?” You asked out loud.
“Besides sell my soul and get 10 years left to live,” you said to yourself.
“You’re here,” he shrugged sheepishly. “You’re not trying to say you’re sorry and fix me. You’re treating me like a normal person.”
“Am I not supposed to?”
“Apparently not,” Dean sighed with a roll of his eyes. “Everyone keeps telling me that they’re sorry for my loss and hope that I am okay. I don’t know who is just okay with their dad dying, but I’m handling it. Baggage and all.”
“What baggage?” Your brow raised.
“John wasn’t the world's best dad. You know that. He put a lot on me all the time, even up until the end. I’m angry at him and I hate it.”
“Sounds like you need a drink more than me,” you gave a small smile to him while he furrowed back at you. “ Come on. We’ll have one and head back. You’re buying though since I guess it is my birthday.”
GiGi’s tavern was a little hole in the wall, but it worked. One drink quickly turned into two, and two turned into a pitcher. After hot wings and pizza while reminiscing about past hunts, you started to get that feeling back that you had all those years ago. The weird turning of your insides that felt like butterflies.
“Yeah, well then Sam drove the impala into the house and whooosh she burned up quickly after seeing her kids,” Dean’s words caught you out of your trance. “Guess she didn’t want to face what she did. Took me a week to fix the damages on Baby.”
“Sounds like fun,” you mumbled while taking a sip of your beer.
“Thank you,” he said as he put his hand on yours that was resting on the table, making the butterflies even worse.
“For what?”
“Listening. Being a friend.”
Friend. The word hurt you like a thousand knives aimed for your heart. But why? That’s all you could be. That’s all you would allow it to be.
“Welcome,” you smiled while moving your hand away from his. “We should probably get back soon. It’s getting late.”
“We don’t have to go back tonight. We could crash here.”
“We’re only two hours away from home. We should be back by midnight. One at the latest, unless there’s a reason you don’t want to?”
“Not really interested in hearing Sam whine again right away.”
“It’s that bad huh?”
“He wants to avenge our dad, like it’s our duty. He’s not even thinking of going back to Stanford. But there’s no trail, nothing. And even if we find the bastard, the colt is gone so there goes that.”
Your ears perked up that the colt was gone. Damn it. There goes your ticket out.
“So what are you going to do?”
“Keep working on Baby, and go our separate ways,” Dean shrugged while taking a sip of his beer. “It’ll be better for him.”
“Bullshit,” you blurted out. “ There’s no way that you’re just going to go your separate ways. All those stories that you told tonight, there was one common factor- Sam. You like having him around, hunting together. He’s family, you’re not going to abandon him. Especially if he’s not giving up.”
“Where would I even start?”
“No fucking clue,” you responded with a shrug. “But you both won’t do this alone. Bobby and I will be there to help.”
“You’re not in a hurry to run off on a solo adventure?” Dean raised his brow.
“I’ll be around,” you shrugged again. “Who knows, more eyes and ears to the ground you might find something. The thing is though, you have to be honest about what the hell is going on.”
“You know all there is,” Dean shifted a bit in his seat, making it obvious that he was holding back something. “Yellow eyes probably has the colt and he’s gone. Killed my dad. The end.”
“So not a lot to go on.”
“Nope.”
“We’ll figure this out. We have to.”
“Why do we have to?” Dean asked skeptically.
“Because you’re not really going to rest until you kill that son of a bitch. I know it and you know it.”
He stared at you for a minute before shifting his eyes down to his beer. He did know it, but there was something else he wasn’t saying. Something he was afraid of.
“Anyways,” you said to break the awkward silence. “Like I said. You got me to help.”
Dean continued to stare off, leaving you to roll your eyes as you got up from your seat. You couldn’t sit there anymore with him wallowing in his own self pity. Sure he may want revenge, but it’s not like he had a freaking doomsday clock chiming away.
You made your way to the bathroom, the smell of urine and vomit was enough to make you gag. It was an excuse to walk away though, to a place he wouldn’t follow you. You allowed the cold water from the sink to run through your fingers before splashing some on your face. You felt anger towards John and the whole situation. Dean, not knowing, was only making it worse. But he couldn’t know. It would break him.
“Keep it together Y/N,” you whispered to yourself.
You stared at your reflection in the dirt stained mirror. The dark circles around your eyes seemed darker. The wrinkles next to your eyes seemed deeper. What the hell? Your face in the mirror started twisting in agony over and over until it stopped and your eyes blinked, showing nothing but darkness...black eyes. Your heart felt like it was about to burst from your chest as you cocked back your fist and slammed it into the mirror, shattering it into a thousand little pieces. Your reflection in the broken pieces all over the sink and floor was back to normal. You glanced down to your hand to see the deep cuts now on your knuckles. You grabbed a paper towel and quickly wrapped it up to go back out to the table . Whatever the hell just happened, you didn’t want to wait for more.
“Hey,” Dean looked up to you, before stopping as soon as he saw your hand. “You okay? What happened?”
“I got mad at the mirror,” you lied, well sort of, making Dean begin to reach for your hand, but you pulled back quickly. “Not really, just clumsy in there. Let’s get going before I have to pay for it.”
“Y/N,” Dean sighed as he grabbed you by your arm to stop you. “I’m sorry if I have upset you.”
“This wasn’t you. Just an accident,” you flashed a tight lipped smile. “Come on.”
“Well let's at least get it cleaned up.”
You wanted to argue. It wasn’t even that bad. Just a few scratches, you had thought as the blood soaked through the towel. Maybe not. You just wanted out of this place and whatever hoodoo was going on, but he was persistent, so you agreed. Didn’t want to explain how for some reason you were going crazy and seeing things.
After allowing him to drive (which took everything in you to agree to because you were “hurt”), you made your way to the closest gas station for a first aid kit. You shot down Dean’s proposal to get a hotel room for the night so he can clean you up and either of you wouldn’t have to worry about driving tired.
“Come on ya stubborn ass,” Dean firmly stated. “I’m tired, you’re hurt. We can go back tomorrow. No funny games, I promise.”
That was the part you were worried about. A hotel alone with Dean? Definitely nothing good could happen there. So why did it sting when he said no funny games? You finally agreed as he sat in protest until you said yes.
It wasn’t that much further down the road when you got to the room. You almost clocked out the guy behind the counter when he asked if you wanted it ‘by the hour’. Luckily Dean put him in his place right away by flashing his fake fed badge when he pulled out the credit card, stating ‘official business’. Also the sight of the pearl handled gun on Dean's hip probably made him shit himself.
“Room 14,” Dean stated as you approached the door down the long corridor.
For shit hole hotels, this wasn’t that bad. Didn’t smell as moldy as most. You glanced around the room. Two beds, good. Free cable, alright. Mini bar, jackpot. You went to grab a small bottle out when Dean grabbed your hand gingerly instead.
“Come on, let'sf clean you up.”
“It’s not even bleeding anymore,” you lied as you pulled away. “I’m fine.”
“Don’t be a bitch,” Dean huffed out as he rolled his eyes. “Just let me help you.”
“I’ve had worse. This is nothing,” you snarled as Dean removed the towel you had over it that was now drenched in blood.
“You need stitches.”
“Then I’ll need some whiskey too.”
“Got a kit anywhere?” He asked as he inspected your wound on your hand, still holding it gingerly until his own.
“In the trunk, a leather pouch.”
“I’ll be right back,” he said as he let go, causing your hand to suddenly become very cold with the absence of him. You felt yourself longing again for the slightest touch of his coarse hands. The pit of unease grew in your belly. Be careful, Y/N. Don’t allow your heart to take over your head.
As Dean walked back in, you quickly slammed back the tiny bottle of Jim Beam that was in the bar. The burning cool wasn’t enough to quiet the racing thoughts as he stripped off his flannel over shirt and exposed a tight white t-shirt stretched across his abdomen. The lump in your throat grew too large to swallow as he grabbed at your hand again.
“Not going to lie,” he looked into your eyes. “This is going to hurt like hell.”
You braced yourself as he grabbed a little bottle of vodka and poured it over your hand to stop any infection. The burn caused you to wince until he gently blew on it to ease the pain. His perfect pink lips squished together took your attention away from everything else in the world.
“Now the hard part,” he stated as he took out a needle and thread, burning the end of the needle with a zippo retrieved from his pocket. “Hold still.”
You braced yourself as you felt the needle penetrate your skin. The tickle of the thread as he pulled it gently through startled you for a minute. You had done this so many times to yourself, but this was different. Not rushed or harsh, but more calming. Like a gentle moment of being taken cared of- almost like you were being loved.
“It’s not the best job,” he commented as he cut the thread. “But it will do the trick.”
“Thank you,” you whispered as your eyes stayed on his hand holding yours. The pit continued to grow, making you feel breathless. You didn’t even realize that you were slowly trembling apart.
“Are you okay?” Dean remarked with noticing your quakes.
“I’m fine,” you pulled your hand away and held it against your chest. “Just hurts.”
“Well, we have about 4 mini bottles of alcohol left and a bottle of Advil,” Dean informed you as he got up from his seat. “Anything else I can get you?”
“Chocolate and salt and vinegar potato chips,” you said out loud.
“That’s a weird combination,” he chuckled.
“It’s comfort food,” you shrugged before you quickly realized that your cravings were due to something else coming soon.
“ Anything else?”
“Um…tampons?” You sheepishly stated.
Dean let out a low chuckle with a subtle roll of his eyes before for he nodded and went on his way.
You felt relieved as he walked away. One more minute and you might have lost yourself. It was just hormones causing this feeling inside of you. That’s all. Nothing more… nothing less.
____
“Okay, my turn,” Dean said as he tossed some peanut M&M’s in his mouth. “Never have I ever gotten stabbed by a witch.”
“Oh come on,” you grumbled. “I told you that story earlier!”
“I know,” he smirked. “Drink.”
When Dean arrived back there was nothing but uncomfortable silence for a while that would make a deaf man stir crazy. You couldn’t sleep, your nerves were too wound up as he lounged on the bed, now in just his boxers and tshirt as his pants soaked in the bathroom to rid themselves of the drops of blood that had accidentally dripped from your hand. He suggested a drinking game since there was nothing else to do. You reluctantly agreed, knowing you were playing with fire.
As you pulled the bottle back from your lips from the case of beer Dean had grabbed on his run, you thought of all the things you could ask. None sounded enlightening enough to not give away what you really wanted to know.
“Never have I ever been in a serious relationship,” you stated before nibbling on your lip.
“Define serious?”
“Longer than a week,” you giggled. “More than just sex. Someone that actually knows you and what you do.”
Dean took out a deep breath before he took back a drink.
“Oh really?”
“Her name was Cassie,” he said. “I told her everything and she freaked out. I saw her a little while ago, saved her life from some ghost in a truck.”
“And?” Your heart began to race as you admitted that after all this time, there was someone else he allowed into his life.
“And, I realized that it was more physical than anything else,” he shrugged. “She doesn’t get the craziness. Not like you.”
“What about me?” You scrunched up your nose.
“You get it. Hell, you could have done anything with your life and you still chose this.”
“I didn’t exactly choose this,” you rolled your eyes as you took a drink.
“What do you mean?”
“Family dead and raised by hunters,” you replied. “Think I could just go off and be a school teacher when I’m thinking about vampires and demons outside the door?”
“You’d be a hot school teacher though,” he smirked as he took another sip causing you to blush. “Okay, my turn.”
“I’m going to need another beer probably, ya cheater,” you laughed.
“Never have I ever forgotten about what it was like to kiss you,” the words fell off his lips with such sincerity that you felt the pang in your chest. With a long pause, he waited patiently for any indication of your response. “Are you going to drink or…”
“I think we should stop playing,” you stated as you got up from your seat on the edge of the bed.
“Not until you answer. What's the harm in that?”
“No, I don’t know what it is like to kiss me,” you mocked.
“You know what I mean,” he smirked. “I’ve thought about it every day since and every moment I’m with you.”
“Dean-“
“You don’t have to say it, but I know you’ve thought about it too,” he said as he moved closer to you.
“No, I haven’t-“ you lied.
“Liar,” he smirked again. “I may not be the smartest person in this room, but I can read people. I can see it in your eyes, hear it in your voice, the way you move away, but grow near at the same time.”
“You don’t know what you're talking about.”
“Then kiss me and tell me I’m wrong,” he challenged.
Your mind quickly envisioned the feeling of his lips on yours, his hands grasping at your hair as your tongues danced. But what then? Would you even be able to stop?
“I’m not going to kiss you Dean.”
“Is that because you don’t want to or you're afraid to?”
He could read you. You were scared. Scared at what this would mean if you allowed yourself to feel for him. To fully be with him.
“I’m not scared of anything,” you felt a tear roll out the corner of your eye.
As you tried to hide the tear that had escaped, Dean moved closer to you to the point of being mere inches from your face. You could feel his breath on yours as he brushed your hair out of your face before cupping it. Out of automatic reaction, you nestled into his hand.
“Tell me not to and I won’t.”
You wanted to scream for him to stop, to push him away, but you couldn’t. Your body wouldn’t allow you to even move. Like a magnetic pulse you were pulled towards him.
“I don’t do serious,” you managed to breathe out with a quaking breath.
“Me either,” he softly spoke as his lips grew closer to yours.
It was like you were possessed as your eyes shut in response as you felt his lips brush onto yours. Slowly, soft yet firm. But only for a moment. His hands grasping at the back of your head caught you by surprise as his lips pushed deep into yours, pushing them apart vigorously. It’d be a lie to say you tried to fight it, but you felt yourself melting into him. Your lips moving with his; tongues dancing their own melody. His hand was twisting into your hair, pushing you deeper, his other gently squeezing your ass. Your arms fell on top of his shoulders, pulling him in. The kiss continued, as you felt his hand drop from your hair and settle on the other side of your ass.
He pulled away slowly, lips pink and swollen.
“Dean,” escaped your lips as you caught your breath.
“Tell me you feel that too,” You looked into his emerald eyes, sparkling at you and pleading for an answer. A pit in your stomach said to walk away, but the ache in your heart wanted him more.
You pushed your lips on his again, falling deeper and deeper into the midst of pleasure. Your head was spiraling as you felt the heat rise. You knew it was wrong, but hey, you were going to die anyway in a year. Did you really want to go without knowing? What his touch felt like on your bare skin, what his kiss felt like with his lips pressed deeply into yours? You definitely were down the rabbit hole now and there was no turning back.

Series Maesterlist
Tomorrow was the first day at your new job. Monster University as some would say, well those who knew the truth about it. You decided it was best to get as much shut-eye as you could while waiting and doing everything imaginable to help pass the time. That didn’t work. You laid in bed staring at the walls, waiting for something, anything to happen. God this was boring.
You reached over to your phone and dialed out to a friendly voice. It was just a little after 10 at night, where you knew he was probably up, being a night wolf and all.
“Hey Garth, you up?”
“I was just about to head off to bed for the night,” you could hear the chirpiness in his voice. “What can I help you with?”
“Just checking in on how you and the others are doing,” you lied. “It’s been pretty quiet.”
“We like quiet,” he laughed. “Everything’s been good here.”
“Okay,” you sighed out. “Let me know if anything changes.”
“You don’t sound too good though,” he remarked. “You alright there Y/N?”
“I’m alright,” you lied again. “It’s just been a really weird month.”
“Well I’m a good listener,” you could hear the smile in his voice. “Tell me all about it.”
You hesitated at first with what your response would be. He was out of the life as much as he could be. No need to really bring him in, but for once you felt like being the other person on the couch for once, instead of the one listening. He was a doctor after all, although not quite the same. Next thing you knew over an hour had flown by as you explained your mom’s passing, the meeting of the Winchester’s, everything in between, and after. He was a really great listener after all.
“Dean and Sam are great guys Y/N,” he replied. “And Bobby? Well now I know why I liked you from the moment I met you. He was like a mentor for me.”
“Wish I had gotten to know him,” you sighed through the phone, thinking about how many opportunities you had missed.
“Well you did get to talk to him,” Garth spoke up.
“What?”
“Don’t you remember?” Garth sounded surprised.
“No.”
“Tallahassee,” he reminded you. “Remember? Our first case.”
You sat there silent, trying to remember what had happened besides it being the first time you met Garth, which of course had its rocky start.
When you had gotten down to Tallahassee, you had no idea what you were getting into. There was a case, you were sure of it, but what type? You had no idea. Some sort of creature was literally freezing people in the 90+ heat and killing them. An oddity for Florida, although for Florida nothing really surprised you. They kept gators as pets for god sakes. This case however sounded like something more of a Batman villain. Mr. Freeze quest for vengeance.
“Agent Morrison, Homeland security,” you flashed your fake badge to the local cop upon arriving outside the scene of the latest victim.
“Nothing better to do in Homeland security,” he raised his brow.
“That’s classified,” you gave him a hard stare.
“Well go ahead, we already have someone from wildlife protection in there. Hell, send in the National Guard. Ain’t nothing normal about that in there.”
You gave him a furrowed look before you went towards the back of the sheek apartment where you could hear talking. The AC was off, making it feel like a million degrees on this hot summer day. The sweat already running down your back and clinging your blouse onto you. God you wanted shorts and a tank so bad at this moment. You stopped in your tracks the moment you saw it. A woman frozen in a giant cocoon of ice that was not melting.
“Whoa,” you mouth opened agape.
“Yeah, boys,” you saw a skinny guy hitting the statue of ice like he was an authority. “This ain’t melting.”
You cleared your throat as you walked in, heels clicking along the wooden floor boards. You wanted to present with authority, if anything to get the locals out so you could do the real work.
“I’ll take it over from here boys,” you flashed your badge real quick.
Three of the guys in the room moved out, but the skinny one stood still. He stood there with his arms crossed and a cheeky grin, challenging your authority.
“Did you not hear me? I said I got it,” you stated again.
“Kinkos? Or Office Max?” He smiled cockily.
“Excuse me?” You shot him a hard look.
“Hunter?” He nonchalantly asked to which you didn’t reply. He took it as a queue to continue talking. “So vic is Tami Yaguisi. Thirty six years old, single, and no forced entry. Her sister was the last victim last week.”
“Great, now get out,” you nodded your head to the door, not even bothering to look at him.
“Why? It’s a case?” He sounded shocked.
“I don’t work with others. I do this alone.”
“I think there’s plenty of room for two hunters in the house,” he smiled. “Plus I found something the locals missed.”
He held out a box to you. You grabbed it with a roll of your eyes. There was something engraved in the top, but nothing in it. Just a simple wooden box. Probably used for trinkets or weed by the way it smelled.
“It’s in Japanese.”
“I don’t read Japanese,” you sassed as you handed it back to him.
“But I know a guy who does,” he pulled out his phone, took a picture, typed for a second, and then dialed. “Hey boss man, it’s Garth. Yeah, it’s definitely a case. Hold on, I got another hunter here.”
You rolled your eyes as you crouched down to examine the frozen body. Great, now there’s two of them. Her mouth was open like she was screaming in her last few minutes alive. Poor woman. To the side of the ice cocoon, there was a long strand of black hair. It was cold to the touch, like it was made of ice. It looked like a woman’s. Couldn’t have been Tami’s since her’s was dyed blonde. Must have belonged to the monster? But what type has long icy black hair?
“So I just sent you a picture,” Garth stated. “Hold on, I'll put you on speaker phone.”
You rolled your eyes again, trying to investigate any more clues. There wasn’t really much to see, unless you could get the ice to melt. The key word being ‘could.’ It wasn’t even melting a little in this heat. The case was going from probably to definitely quickly.
“It translates to ‘Winter’s Tale and Icy Snow. Forever sealed to save your soul,” the voice on the other end stated. “Sounds like your victim let it out of that box.”
Your mind went towards any Japanese mythological creatures you could think of from your moms books. She’d be the person to call, but she thought you were on vacation enjoying the sunshine. She’d kill you if she knew what you were doing. Maybe it was a Yōkai? But with the ice, it didn’t seem like any ordinary spirit. None you’ve ever come across at least.
“A Yuki-oona?” You said out loud.
“What is that?” Garth looked puzzled.
“Who’s that?” The man’s voice on the phone asked.
“Another hunter,” you simply replied, not wanting to really introduce yourself. No, you worked alone. No attachments. Not since Ash because, well you didn’t care to mourn another fallen friend and not since Charlie, but that was only because you were intrigued at the sight of another female hunter.
“Well you might be up to something there,” the voice stated again. “It’s a Snow Woman. An old Japanese fairy tale. I’ve never heard of one here in the states before.”
“Freezes people and sucks their essence out to live,” you said as you moved through the room. “Any idea how you kill it?”
“Fiery sword to the heart,” the voice replied promptly. At least he seemed to know his shit. “You know your stuff there kid.”
“I read,” you chuckled a little.
“Yeah well finding her and killing her won’t be easy,” the voice continued. “You two better team up. The damn idjit thought it was the abominable snowman.”
The word idjit caught you off guard, but you just smiled at it. It reminded you of your mom. God she was going to kill you if she ever found out you were hunting a Japanese ice princess. They were notorious for being cruel and vicious. You really hated possibly teaming up with anyone, especially in such a dangerous case. Someone was bound to get hurt, and you had your money on the scrawny guy. But the voice on the phone, he seemed like a good person, someone you could possibly trust. Hell, if he could handle this dork in front of you, surely you could. And that was the start of it. Your friendship with Garth all because of the man who said ‘idjit’.
“Thanks Garth,” you smiled into the phone, although he couldn’t see it.
“Thanks for what?”
“For reminding me. I honestly had forgotten about that. I wish I would have known then what I know now. Maybe I could have talked to him more.”
“Well you don’t exactly warm up to people quickly there Y/N,” you could hear the chuckle in his voice. There was a pregnant pause before he spoke again. “He did ask about you ya know.”
“What?”
“After that hunt. He asked about the girl who saved my ass,” he explained. “He knew who you were. I told him everything.”
You sat there for a minute with a smirk on your face. He knew who you were. You had interested him. He of course didn’t exactly know who you were, but nonetheless. He knew you existed as a person. The girl who managed to save Garth’s ass when he was about to live in his own icy prison because he had been too talkative to pay attention to the monster behind him. That was the best news you had heard in a long time.
“I have some of his old books and stuff that I can send you.”
“I’d love that,” you stated before rambling off your address. “Thanks again Garth.”
“Have a good night Y/N,” he replied. “And don’t forget to call more often. We miss you around here.”
——-
“How much longer,” Gabriel groaned from his spot in the backseat. “A guys gotta eat.”
“Angels don’t eat,” Sam shot back with a puzzled look.
“Well excuse me for enjoying the finer things in life,” Gabriel let out in sarcasm. “But seriously though, food? A little stop at the old watering hole? Anything?!?! Maybe a strip club? I might know a couple girls within the area who are really great at doing this thing with a ping pong ball and-”
“Stop it,” Dean growled from behind the wheel. “We will be there in an hour or so. You can wait to eat. And no strippers.”
“Cas and Rowena are ready,” Sam said as the light from his phone illuminated his face.
“And Y/N?” Dean raised his eyebrow to his brother.
As soon as Gabriel heard Y/N’s name his ears perked up. He knew exactly where she was. Far away where she belonged with everything going on. That’s where she had to stay. With the wonder twins asinine plan, there was no way that he was going to allow her to cross over with them. It’d be too dangerous if his doppelgänger brother was as much of a threat as they had described.
“She had to go home Cas said. She has some work thing tomorrow,” Sam responded with reluctance.
“She didn’t say anything,” Dean glared at his brother.
“Oh, trouble in paradise Dean-o?” Gabriel wagged his eyebrows. “Your new little misses won’t be home?”
“Cut the crap Gabriel. We know you know her,” Dean firmly stated while glancing in the rearview mirror.
“True,” he stated nonchalantly. “But how well do you know her?”
“What are you talking about?” Sam looked at him annoyed.
“I’ve known her all her life, you’ve known her for like 5 minutes? She’s not exactly a first choice team player for team stupid. Although she does pack a mean punch.”
Gabriel smirked a little at the fact that he did have a bit of an upper hand. He knew Y/N way more than they ever would. They didn’t know the truth about her and all the mess that came with it. Why it was idiotic to involve her at all more then she already was. They had to know. If anything, Dean wouldn’t allow her stubbornness to win when she would for sure argue with them. He wasn’t one to typically back down when he made up his mind, but neither was she. She’d have to stay behind; it was for her own good to spill the beans on what made Y/N so special.
“Some would say that about you too,” Dean shot back.
“True. But then again I wasn’t created to help destroy the world, now was I?” Gabriel spoke firmly. “Trust me boys. You want to open that rift, she’s the last person you want anywhere near it. Especially if I have a doppelgänger dickwad of a brother over there. He’d get a hold of her and it’s game over folks. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200.”
“What the hell are you talking about?” Sam groaned. “She wasn’t-“
“Abandon. Fate. All a part of the grandmaster scheme. Remember that apocalypse you two stopped thanks to yours truly?” He waggled his eyebrows again. “Yeah, well you had both sides playing that game. Imagine if dear old Luci or Mikey would have had her by their side. Someone as strong as her? Unable to be easily hurt? Stubborn as hell? It would have been world ending.”
“Is that,” Sam started as he looked to his brother. “Is that why we’re connected? Her mother and ours.”
“Aw Sam, you’re not just a cute face,” Gabriel smirked. “Like I said, both sides were playing the game. They were just waiting to see who would win in claiming their little pet project. But none of it went to either one's plan. Her aunt? Spitting image of her, but stronger. Her mother? Nothing unique, rather a normal child. So when old Ralphael got angry that he wasn’t in the fight, he sent angels to wipe them out. Michael wasn’t pleased but was none the wiser as to how genetics work. Of course course, Fate played with the birds and the bees, giving us Y/N. Bringing her as the new player one to pick a side. It looks like team ‘good son’ would have won by the way it seems, that is, if they had even known she existed back then. I may have helped with that one a bit. Guess she doesn’t have a thing for tall drinks of water, like Sammy boy here.”
Gabriel caught Dean glaring over to his brother, who was shifting himself from the uncomfortableness that Y/N could have ended up with him. Would have made an awkward thanksgiving.
Gabriel smirked over to Dean, who then glared at him hard through the mirror. It was working. Dean would keep her away. Dean’s mind was obviously racing with the facts. No way he would let her go over there and risk life as they knew it. No way he would risk losing her. He felt a little guilty laying out all her secrets, but it was best they knew before they did something they’d regret.
“So, food?” Gabriel sat up and pushed his head between them in the front seat.
“Shut up,” Dean shoved him back. “We will be there soon enough.”
_______
“Good morning everyone,” Dr. Frankel stated as he walked in carrying his briefcase.
It was Monday morning, the first official day at your new job. It wasn’t so bad, that is, if you didn’t mind sitting silently as you watched a werewolf and a witch trade pictures of their kids school pictures. God, this was your life now.
You had sat there 15 minutes before anyone had arrived, looking around for your exits. Your hunter instincts kicking in- just in case. Cas was wary of them, so you’d be a fool to just walk in like nothing was going on. He might have been annoying, but you couldn’t say he was wrong to be worried. Hell, everything in you was yelling at you that this was insane.
There was you and one other human in the room as they all sat down in their respective seats, awaiting the Dean, Dr. Frankel. Their leader.
“Excited?” Dr. Edwards smiled at you. He was at least human and probably naive to everything happening.
You gave him a polite nod as you glanced at your phone. Nothing from Dean. What were they doing? You made the choice that as soon as you were done here, you were going back to the bunker. You had to.
As Dr. Frankel walked in, everyone went silent. It was eerie like a weird cult. This was when you started regretting throwing your knife away to Rowena to use. A weapon would have been nice to have, you know, just in case.
“We have our new faculty starting today,” he looked at you. “Dr. Y/N Y/L/N. She will be heading up our parapsychology department and our liaison for the Nephilim matter. I trust that most of you have met her already.”
Well right to it. That was a surprise. Guess there’s no secrets at Monster University. You looked around to everyone, nothing about them flinched in surprise. Nothing about them said hungry or rage either, so that was at least a blessing for now.
“And what a good job she will do,” the demon who had cornered you in the bathroom weeks ago stated as saltured in before taking her seat. She glanced over to you and winked before Dr. Frankel continued.
“Would you like to say a few words Y/N?”
You flashed everyone a polite smile. Time to act. You stood up from your seat, feeling all eyes on you. Lights shifting around you. God you wish you had your knife.
“I would just like to say, thank you for having me. I look forward to getting to know you all more as time goes on,” you seated yourself back down after you finished.
“And the nephilim?” The werewolf spoke up.
“No new developments on that,” you smiled while glancing over to your boss. “But if anything does occur, I’ll make sure our deal stays intact.”
“How can we be so sure that that will happen? I mean, you're working with the Winchester’s and their pet angel. They’d rather chop off our heads than work with us. They are hunters after all.”
“You do know I am a hunter too there don’t you?” You shot back with warning, only realizing too late that you basically just threatened a coworker on the first day. Great start Y/N. “I’d like to believe that given the circumstances, we can move past that stereotype that we can’t work together. As long as everyone plays nice?”
The werewolf silenced himself, glaring over to the Dean who was smirking at the head of the table.
“And that is why you are here Y/N,” he spoke up. “If we want to keep up what we’ve built, we have to work together. No one gets out of line. Or else. We have not only our families to protect, but all of our students to think of. Hunter and monster quarles are a thing of the past. It’s a new day ladies and gentleman. With Dr. Y/L/N’s leadership.”
Leadership? What the hell? That’s not what you signed up for. But the way everyone looked to you, there was no way you could say no now. You sat there trying not to let your polite smile scream awkwardness. This was going to be interesting.
“Now, to other business,” Dr. Frankel spoke up. “How are we with the syllabi’s for the summer?”
The rest of the meeting went on with no more mentions of monsters or impending doom. It actually switched to be rather normal. You carefully watched everyone as they interacted. They were genuine educators, wanting to do right by their students. You wondered if it was possible that all this could work. That everyone could really get along?
“Alright everyone,” Dr. Frankel broke you out of your thoughts. “We go live in a week. Make sure you have loaded your syllabi’s before Friday.”
You waited until everyone else started to get up before you moved, checking your phone once again. Nothing.
“Dr. Y/L/N,” Dr. Frankel spoke up. “Natalie here will see you to your office to help you set up.”
You glared over to the demon that was smirking at you. Great. A bitchy demon as your tour guide. You followed her silently down the hall as her heels clicked along the tiled floor.
“This one is you,” she opened the door along the corridor with a key. She handed it to you, and pushed herself aside for you to walk in.
You reached around the corner and clicked on the light. Simple enough, nothing extravagant. A desk, bookshelves, and a little window that looked out to the courtyard.
“Meet your standards?”
“Yup,” you popped off your lips.
“So your login is your first initial and last name. Email is the same,” she informed you. “Password is Bitch123, with a capital B.”
“Let me guess, you set that up?” You snarked back, sitting yourself behind the desk.
“Thought you’d like that,” she smirked.
“Whatever,” you slide yourself in behind the desk and logged in to the computer, rolling your eyes to the password as you typed it in. It worked.
“So Frankel wanted me to show you how to set everything up,” she moved over towards you, invading your space.
“So what, you’re the IT demon now?”
“I sold my soul when Macintosh was growing,” she replied nonchalantly.
“Well okay then,” you pushed yourself back from the desk. “Click away.”
This was a new one for you. A demon showing you how to use a computer program. But it was easy enough in the long run. During the hour of her explaining everything, you kept glancing at your phone. Hoping to hear something from Dean.
“You have a hot date there, or am I boring you that much?”
“Just waiting on a call,” you slid your phone back into your purse. “So was that it?”
“That’s all until you screw something up,” she rolled her eyes while moving away from you. “You’re on your own now.”
“Great,” you got up quickly from the desk, collecting all your things.
“Where’s the fire?”
You gave her an annoyed look as you continued to get your stuff in order. She didn’t have to know what was happening. None of her business anyways even if you knew what was happening.
“So what’s the Winchester’s plan for Lucifer?”
Her question stopped you abruptly. Lucifer? Crap. You had been so busy in everything else that you never stopped to think about the fact that he was free roaming. What was their plan? You gave her a shrug, doing your best to just ignore the question.
“When he learns his baby boy is back, he’s going to want him,” she continued. “Surely daddy Castiel will not be pleased with that.”
“Why do you care?” You shot back in annoyance.
“I’m not buying this whole deal thing you have going on. There’s too many holes. Too much room for Winchester stupidity.”
“It’s being handled,” you went to move past her, but she moved herself in your way.
“I’m just letting you know that I will not be Lucifer’s pet again. You think I’m a monster? You have no idea what he is capable of. Especially if the rumors are true about you.”
“They’re not,” you growled. “Lucifer will be handled. I will make sure of it. Now move.”
She moved out of your way with a cockiness to her. God was she a bitch. But she was right. Lucifer has to be stopped. Just another thing to add to your summer to do list.
______
“Fucking hell,” Dean groaned as he walked away from the failed, sloppy rift into the kitchen.
Sam stood in disbelief. It didn’t work? Why did it not work? Dammit. Gabriel was not strong enough. He had lost all his juice. Who knows when he would get it back. All hope was lost.
As everyone quipped back and forth, Sam felt uneasy. Like a premonition that someone was going to drop a bomb on them. Cas firmly stared him down as he stated what was next. Teaming up with Lucifer was insane. There was no way he’d ever agree to it. Castiel left the room, giving his brother and him a second to think about it. He was sure his brother had already made up his mind though. Sam would have to face Lucifer once again.
Sam slowly followed his brother into the kitchen, Gabriel trailing behind. What next?
“Sorry boys,” Gabriel gave a sheepish look. “Guess I need a little more time to power up.”
Dean popped the top off to a beer and chugged it down as they walked in. Standing in silence. No clue at what to do next besides wait.
“Hey guys,” Sam turned his head to see Y/N walking in, dropping off a huge bag on the floor as she strolled towards them. “No one bothered to call?”
“Dean said he did,” Sam looked at her perplexed.
“Oh really?” She gave Dean a hard glare.
“Uh oh,” Gabriel smirked.
“Shut up Gabriel,” Dean snapped at him. He took in a deep breath and sighed, looking to everyone’s brow raised to him. Waiting for answers.
“Dean?” Y/N said softly. “What’s going on?”
“Yeah Dean,” Gabriel continued to smirk. “What’s going on?”
“Seriously Gabriel shut up. Go see if Rowena needs anything.”
“Fine,” he said with a huff, moving past Sam slowly. “My money’s on Y/N though.”
“Dean?” She repeated again.
Sam glanced over at his brother who was doing his best to avoid her gaze. What the hell was he doing? Why did he lie when he had asked about calling her?
“Are we back to this again?” She scowled, crossing her arms at him.
“You were busy,” Dean shrugged like it was nothing. “I didn’t want to worry you.”
“Worry me?” Really?” She sassed back. “Nice one. Try again. The truth this time.”
Dean looked to Sam with pleading eyes, like he wanted a bail out. Sam shook his head, still lost at why his brother would keep it a secret. She was busy anyways with her work thing. Is that why Dean has been in such a rush to get the rift open? So she couldn’t be here? Why? She could help. Suddenly Sam realized why his brother had lied. Gabriel’s warning from last night. Surely he didn’t believe all that hype about her being created to destroy the world? She was Y/N, a good person. He wasn’t that stupid to believe that she could have any part in that chaos between the archangels. Did he?
“It’s safer for you here,” Dean reluctantly replied. “Gabriel told us.”
“Told you what exactly?”
“He told us why you are the way you are. What you were supposed to be.”
“Key word ‘supposed’ to,” she shot back. “Not who I am.”
“Yeah well, forgive me but I’d rather not see a dickbag archangel from another world using you as a pet,” Dean snarked back.
“Is that what you’re afraid of?” Sam could see the hurt in her eyes. “That I’d ever agree to something so stupid?”
“You would if you didn’t have a choice,” Dean replied, looking nervous. He was scared. Scared of what?
“We all have choices Dean,” she sighed out. “Nothing is for certain.”
“Well I’d rather not tempt Fate,” Dean looked up to her.
She took in a deep breath and looked over to Sam who was shaking his head. He didn’t like what his brother was saying, but Dean’s intuition was almost always right. He’d have to trust him on this one.
“Fine,” she replied slowly. “I won’t go over, but that doesn’t mean you get to keep me out of this Mr. Winchester. Because apparently your little plan didn’t work or we wouldn’t be having this conversation right now. I’d be waiting to have a whole other conversation with you with a few choice words.”
“Sorry,” Dean replied. “Just thought it’d be easier.”
“Secrets always come out Dean,” she replied, but stopped suddenly as though she had just realized something about what she said. “So I guess the cat is out of the bag about me then.”
“How long did you know?” Sam found himself asking. They had been working endlessly to find the truth, her knowing didn’t make sense.
“A little while Sam,” she replied. “Gabriel finally spilled the beans. Guess he’s not such a dick after all.”
“So it’s true then? You were supposed to be some sort of tool for Lucifer or Michael?” Sam spoke up again.
“Guess so,” she shrugged back, glancing over to Dean. “Between Abaddon and the men of letters starting this, well I guess it was all a part of some cosmic Fate. Both sides trying to win. What they didn’t expect was the rouge player: Gabriel. He’s the one who hid me, convincing my mother to leave from everything she knew. He’s the one who kept me away. They all thought their big plan ended long ago.”
“Why?” Dean finally spoke up. “I still don’t get exactly why, especially with everything about your mother. Bobby, our family, us. We’d all protect you.”
“That’s the problem Dean,” she glanced at him with a soft smile. “You and I know damn well that even now if one of us were in trouble the other would do something stupid to save the other. Can you imagine if we had known each other our whole lives when the shit storm came? Selfishness is not one of our virtues. That’s why I’m not fighting you on this. I know the risk. I can’t say that I like it, but hey, someone needs to stick around to welcome you back to normal.”
“So it’s settled then?” Sam glanced back and forth between the two of them. “Are you two done with the secrets? Because honestly my head is hurting from it all and we have to focus on what the hell to do next.”
“No more secrets,” Y/N smiled.
“Agreed. So now to the next crappy plan?” Dean looked over to his brother.
“Well with Gabriel tapped out right now, I guess that we wait,” Sam sighed, not wanting to bring up what Cas had said just moments ago. “Not like we have any other options.
“Or you have one that none of you will like,” Y/N spoke up, making both of their heads turn to her. “Lucifer.”
“No way,” Sam tried to argue but he saw his brother nodding in agreement out of the corner of his eye.
“Any other ideas?” She shot back. “He’s roaming around, making the demons nervous. They know as soon as he feels Jack again when he returns he’s going to be looking for him.”
“Is that what they told you?” Sam furrowed his eyes to her.
“More or less,” she replied. “They have zero faith in the two of you to take care of it. That’s why they brought me in. Apparently now I’m their leader with this whole mess, which makes them all the more crazy.”
“Their leader?” Dean let out a chuckle. “Well I guess they know to at least pick out the pretty ones.”
“Smartass,” she laughed. “But seriously, you think that me possibly teaming up with an archangel might be bad? From what it sounds like, with Jack, things could be a lot worse. He’s part archangel. And not just any annoying archangel, he’s Lucifer's son. Who knows what his father will try to convince him to do?”
“Y/N’s right,” Sam turned to see Castiel walking in, looking solemn. “Lucifer is more unpredictable than before. He’s weak right now, but he’s been draining angels of their grace. He can’t be anywhere near Jack. Who knows what he would do.”
“So what do we do?” Sam glanced between everyone in the room.
“Whatever we do, we have to come up with a plan for how to deal with him,” Y/N spoke up. “I’ll get working on tracking him through my networks. Surely someone is keeping an eye on him.”
“Very well,” Castiel nodded.
“This is insane!” Sam yelled out.
“I’ll leave you to this discussion,” Y/N spoke up, breaking the silence after his cry. “Listen to them Sam. This might be the only way.”
Sam watched as she walked out, looking over to Dean and Cas, nodding in approval. She agreed with them. Y/N, who was probably the most sane person in the room was agreeing that Lucifer was their only option. He could feel the cold shiver that ran down to his bones at just the thought of him. His laughter echoed through his years of all that time stuck with him inside his head. He looked up to his brother, begging him for something else. But he knew that was a lost battle, they’d have to use Lucifer. They’d have to bring the real monster home.
________
“Team stupid come up with a game plan?” Gabriel smirked as he stood alongside the pillar in the room. You looked back towards the kitchen, where there was still arguing happening, but you knew who’d win. It was the only way.
“Inviting my brother over won’t be that easy,” he warned. “Especially when he sees you.”
“So he won’t see me,” you replied. “I’ll stick back. That’s simple enough.”
“Well here’s the issue with that,” Gabriel lifted himself off of the pillar and began to circle you. “Moi, being the only other archangel in the room that is at least trustworthy, has to go over with them. Just in case things go side-ways. They have Castiel, but he of course would never leave Dean’s side. So what we have left is a witch and you.”
“Rowena can take care of it.”
“But do you trust her?” He looked into your eyes, searching for your response.
“Why wouldn’t I?” You glared skeptically. You didn’t trust her, but he didn’t need to know that. Question was, why didn’t he?
“Wasn’t too long ago she had some fantasy about becoming his queen, wanting to raise him from the pit,” he began. “He dumped her like a bad prom date of course because, well that’s Luci for you. Then of course he killed her and her son later on. But I’m sure she wouldn’t want some sort of revenge on him now would she?”
“Get to the point Gabe,” you rolled your eyes.
“You have to stay and babysit,” he looked at you with seriousness in his eyes. “I really tried to keep you out of this, spilling the beans and everything to your boy, but I need you to be ready. He’ll be weak, but he will try to get into that mind if yours. And you’ll have to watch out for that witch so she doesn’t try anything stupid.”
“Babysitting the two evils of the room, got it,” you simply replied. “Any tips?”
“Just use everything I’ve taught you and then some. Also, keep that rift open and make sure it doesn’t shut until you see my happy ass come through,” he smirked.
“Got it,” you smiled back. “Hey Gabe?”
“Yeah?”
“So where is that brother of yours?”
“Now how would I know?” He smirked again.
“Oh nothing, just years of being able to hide from him while knowing his every move,” you smirked back.
“This old trickster might have one or two tricks up his sleeve,” he winked. “By this time tomorrow, we’ll be venturing into the great unknown.”
“Be careful alright?” You said with sincerity. “I just got you back. I don’t want to lose your charming personality again.”
“I’ll be alright,” he smiled. “And I’ll make sure our boys get back safe and sound. With your future mother in law too.”
“Gabe,” you rolled your eyes with a laugh. “Just do good. I’m sorry for everything that I said before.”
“You had every right to say it kid. I shouldn’t have ever kept it from you,” he gave you a heartfelt smile. “You’re stronger than I want to admit. And while I hate having you involved, I’m glad you’re on the good side watching my back.”
“Not everything that looks like a monster is one,” you began to say.
“And not everything that looks like a regular Joe Shmoo should be trusted,” he finished with a smile. “Remember, it’s what you choose to do with your free will that determines what you are.”
____
Dean trudged back to his room after they all finally agreed on the plan. They were going to trap Lucifer with Rowena and Gabriel’s help. Y/N would stand by on this side while they went over to make sure everything went fine on their side. Y/N. The very thought of leaving her behind and going towards a world full of monsters left a pit in his stomach. He’d make it through though. He had to.
When he got to his room he saw the most beautiful sight on the planet. Y/N was laying across his bed fiddling with her computer, oblivious to him entering.
“Hey stranger,” he stated, laying a kiss on the top of her head as he sat down on the edge. “What are you working on?”
“Uploading my lecture for next Monday,” she replied as she stroked the keys some more before making one final hit of the buttons. “And done.”
“Well aren’t you the overachiever?” Dean smirked.
“I already have twenty students signed up,” she replied. “I figured that by having it up now, then I can focus on bigger things.”
“I feel touched,” Dean cooed, circling little traces along her back as he sat in silence. “Let’s go for a ride.”
“To where?” She looked up to him with confusion.
“I don’t care,” he shrugged. “Anywhere. As long as we’re alone.”
“Alright,” she sweetly smiled, not giving him any objections.
Dean moved out of her way for her to swing her legs around, putting on her worn sneakers carefully. She threw on a simple black hoodie. Stating that she knew she would get cold. Dean smirked at that. Thinking of Y/N within his arms under the stars, holding her close for warmth. Sounded like a dream.
He allowed her to lead the way to the garage, knowing by now that she knew her way around the bunker. The sight of her little sway as she walked was nice to watch too. Man, how did he get so lucky?
Walking into the garage Dean slowly pulled out the keys to Baby. He moved them around in his hand as he thought about this maybe being his last drive. Something he didn’t want to face.
“Hey Doc,” he yelled out, making her head turn. He tossed the keys to her which she caught right away. “You’re driving.”
“Seriously?” She looked amazed as she held onto the keys.
“I figured that if you can handle that purple dinosaur you call a car, then you can handle my baby,” he smirked and winked as he opened up the passenger door.
“Cheap shot there Winchester,” she smirked back as she got into the driver's seat.
Dean reached over to check what was in the tape player, but Y/N swiftly slapped his hand away.
“Driver picks the music there Winchester,” she grinned.
He sat back with a smirk as she played with the tuner until she found a song she liked. She smiled at the one as it started to play, immediately turning up the dial and singing along.
“Did you see the sky?
I think it means that we've been lost
Maybe one last time is all we need
I can't really help it
If my tongue's all tied in knots
Jumping off a bridge is just the farthest
That I've ever been”
“Good song,” Dean nodded along to the beat. “I haven’t heard this in ages.
“Yeah ‘96 was a great year for music,” she smiled at him. “No Robert Plant though.”
“Yeah,” Dean furrowed his eyes to her. Why did that sound familiar? Like a distant memory he had forgotten? Dean shook it off as being nothing and just sat back and enjoyed her singing as the road led the way. For tomorrow, a new world awaited.

Cas wasn’t happy with how Y/N had left him alone. He has been instructed by Dean to watch and protect, although he was sure that Y/N didn’t really need protection. He sat down patiently by the door, focusing on hearing what was said. Of everything that was stated, she had handled it well, but why did his gut tell him not to trust them? He had to refrain from breaking through the door to show his force as he heard him speak to you. Measly creatures thinking that they had the upper hand. As he listened and heard that it was heaven who had killed her aunt, he all of the sudden felt grief for the actions the angels had caused. Heaven knew something, rather someone did and he had a feeling of who.
_________
“Still butthurt I left you back there Cassie?”
“I don’t see why you had to be reckless,” his rough voice spoke. “That could have easily gone another way.”
“Yeah, but I knew you were listening,” you smiled. “I’m sure that you would have come in if need be, angel wings flapping and all.”
You were back at your house now, going through old files and boxes to find your most recent lecture notes to use for the upcoming summer class. An easy enough task. The fact that Cas hung around through even after you had left the dean’s office was a little annoying.
“Sam’s right,” he shook his head. “You are like Dean.”
That comment made you stop in your tracks of digging out paperwork at your house for your upcoming syllabus. Just like Dean huh? That made you chuckle a little as you went back to work.
“So why haven’t you told Dean and Sam that you’re helping Gabriel?”
That comment stopped you dead, making you face him with a blank stare. Crap. He really was listening.
“You’re looking for Loki. An alias of Gabriel. The one who sold him out,” he continued. “I heard you ask that thing. Gabriel has contacted you, hasn’t he?”
“Yes,” you muttered out, unable to lie.
“And?”
“And, I didn’t want to get anyone’s hopes up,” you sighed. “I made a deal with him. I help him get his revenge and he helps with the next phase.”
“The next phase?”
“Opening the rift. Saving the people over there. Bringing back Mary.”
“And Jack.”
“And Jack,” you nodded. “He’s weak. I don’t even know if he can do it. Hell, I don’t even know if he will keep his word, but it was the Hail Mary play that I had to take.”
“Where is he now?”
“Unsure.”
“Well how did you contact him before?”
“Prayer. He heard me back at the bunker, he just took his time getting to me. Like I said, he’s weak.”
“What are you waiting for then? Pray,” he said impatiently.
You closed your eyes right after rolling them to Cas. Taking in a deep breath, you began, hoping he’d answer.
“Gabriel, I got the stuff. If you can hear me let me know. Or ya know, show up. So you can pay me back.”
You opened your eyes again to nothing. Cas roamed around the room looking for something, anything that proved that Gabriel was listening.
“I feel like I’m making a drug deal with an angel,” you laughed, making Cas furrow his eyes to you. “Anyways, it’s a long shot. It took a bit before, so I guess we just wait and see.”
“I will go to heaven then to see if they can help,” he let out a deep sigh. “Will you be alright?”
“I’m good here Cassie,” you smiled. “If anything develops, I’ll let you know through the old angel radio.”
He nodded as he left, leaving you alone amongst the few boxes that needed put away and your paperwork for your job. The normal life, what you had wanted. Normal, yet so alone.
_______
Mary was doing her best to help all the people from the angels. With Jack and her around, everyone was up in arms- paranoid at how they came to the world. She was busy splitting the last of the can food they had found. Brown mush and green mush that resembled beans and peas. At least it was something.
“Doing good over here,” Bobby smiled to Mary.
“Yes, just about ready to hand out the rations with the others. We’re running low and I don’t know how long we will last.”
Bobby nodded in agreement as he pulled down his mask.
“It’s been that way for a while. The angels have gotten worse, but now that you and Jack are here, well, you’ve given us some hope. All those people that you’ve saved have been more than we’ve been able to do for a while.”
“It’s not enough,” Mary sighed. “We need to find a way to open the portal and get them to safety.”
“Well, good news for you,” she heard a familiar voice behind her. Arthur.
“Arthur! How-How did you get here?”
“Dean and I came through. They had the archangel Gabriel’s grace, but only little. They are finding him to get more. Your sons have not given up the battle yet.”
“Gabriel’s alive?” She breathed out with relief.
“Yes,” Ketch smiled. “And I have a message from Dean. He said to be ready when he gets back because they’re not stopping until they find a way. For all of us.”
“Well that’s the best news I’ve heard in a long time,” Bobby smiled.
“I’m sorry, I haven’t introduced myself. Arthur Ketch,” he extended his hand to Bobby.
“Bobby Singer,” he replied while shaking Ketch’s hand.
“Ah yes, Y/N’s father.”
“Y/N?”
“I’m sorry. Y/N from our world. The new love interest of Mary’s son Dean.”
“I don’t have a daughter,” Bobby glanced over to Mary.
“Y/N?” Mary furrowed her eyes to Ketch.
“According to him, she’s a lovely girl. A psychologist that teaches at some university. He’s quite taken by her. He talked about her extensively. She was introduced to them while trying to find your Bobby Singer. I guess he had some scandalous secrets of his own.”
“Good for him,” she smiled while looking at the ground. Strange though that Bobby has a child. Guess she didn’t know him that well after all. “I can’t wait to meet her. If we ever get out of this alive.”
“We will Mary,” Ketch responded. “You’re boys have faced many dangers and have overcome them. You’ll get to see them again.”
________
Everything was unpacked. Syllabus was set, which was an easy task to just reuse one you had done before. Now, it was the sitting and waiting game for something. Anything.
How strange it felt to be in the midst of chaos, yet nothing to do? You decided to read some more of the Supernatural books as you waited for your pizza to be delivered. While reading, you found yourself getting lost in the pages. Wishing that you had been there, while trying to piece out the timeline to see if you had been anywhere near. There were a few, but usually something happened where you didn’t go. Like your car breaking down or something random.
Reading about your dad, Bobby, gave you mixed feelings of sadness and pride. You wished you had gotten to know him, but this was probably the closest you would ever get. He was a brave man. Smart too. All his quips made you smile because they were things you would often say in those situations. You definitely realized that your need to dwell over research for hours upon end was not just a quirk, but a family trait. Especially the part where a bottle of whiskey came into play.
You stood up to get yourself a drink. Nothing else better to do. And having a drink felt right, like you were honoring his memory. After you had retrieved it from the kitchen, you walked back to the living room where the dark haired reaper stood.
“Y/N, it’s about time we chat.”
“More than a few words this time then?” You snarked back. “Or more ominous ‘watch out for that one’ kind of chat?”
“You weren’t ready to hear it yet.”
“Hear what?”
“Your destiny.”
You gave her a hard look as you drank down your drink before sitting the empty glass down on the table.
“You see Y/N, Dean and you were meant to know each other a long time ago. Call it fate, but someone messed up things. Played around with what was supposed to be.”
“Let me guess Gabriel.”
She nodded as she continued.
“Everyone has a story of possible things, but you see yours is unique. I’d love to show you.”
“Interesting, but I don’t think so. Why would I trust some no named reaper anyways?”
“I’m Billie,” she smiled. “And I’m not just a reaper. I am Death.”
“Well that’s great,” you scoffed. “I was wondering when my life would get weirder.”
“As I said, I’d love to show you how your story ends,” she smirked.
You thought about what she was saying. How your story ends? It was intriguing to say the least, but knowing could change things. Could change everything.
“No.”
“No?” She asked in surprise. “You do know what I’m offering here?”
“I do. Thanks, but no thanks. Whatever you showed me, it wouldn’t be real. Unless you’re here to take me now, I believe that our stories can change. You said it yourself, mine already has. Why see what may be when I can focus on what is.”
“I have to say Y/N, you’ve surprised me,” her lips curled into a grin. “Not many people have said no to Death herself.”
“Yeah well, sometimes when facing death you have to say ‘not today’ and keep fighting,” you let out a slight chuckle to your Game of Thrones reference.
“Offer is still on the table. Think it over. Let me know when you’ve changed your mind,” she informed you, making you shake your head in response. “Oh and Y/N. Don’t forget my warning.”
With that, she disappeared from your living room. You fell back into an empty chair and sighed. Death making house calls? Ominous warnings? Yeah, must be a Thursday.

Dean rapidly texted on his phone while Sam sat patiently, waiting for Rowena within the hotel lounge. His anxiety was increasing. Death said he’d be the one to kill her, and if she wouldn’t agree to stop, he’d have to. Not something he was looking forward to. The fact that Dean wasn’t as anxious as him was starting to piss him off.
“Dude,” Sam argued with his brother. “Phone down. Head in the game.”
“I was checking on Y/N,” he rolled his eyes. “I haven’t heard anything from her.”
“And?”
“She said it’s all good. She’ll meet us when we’re done. Cas is in heaven.”
“Good,” Sam noticed Rowena approaching with some guy. “Because it’s showtime now.”
_______
In less than 4 hours, the boys were coming back, with an added guest. The witch Rowena agreed to join what you called the suicide squad. You decided to meet them at the bunker, but not without stopping to grab some supplies first. The last time there was less than to be desired in their cabinets and what could only be deemed a science experiment in the fridge.
Walking through the grocery store was just another monotonous part about being human, but it was fun at times. Especially when you're hungry. While trying to pick out which box of varied Oreos sounded better, you didn’t even pay mind the stock boy behind you.
“Double stuffed is always a classic,” you heard him say. “But if you’re looking for a sweet treat- you, me, aisle 6 with some pudding cups maybe a mars bar or two. We can have a sticky sweet time.”
“Hello Gabriel,” you sighed out as you turned to see him incognito as a store worker. “And ew.”
“Come on,” he wagged his eyebrow. “You surely can’t say you’ve never thought about me naked?”
“I’ve thought about me sticking a watermelon up your ass before.”
“Ouch,” he grimaced. “So you called?”
“I have an address for you,” you pulled a piece of paper out of your pocket. “But I don’t think it’s to who you want. I looked online and it’s some bar.”
“Must be where good old Fenrir is hanging out these days,” he smiled as he grabbed the paper. “Should be no problem in leading me to good old dad Loki. Guess I’ll just have to work up the list.”
“So our deal is good then? You’re going to help.”
“This,” he held up the note. “Is not Loki’s address.”
“So you’re not going to do it now? You’re breaking the deal?” You started to raise your voice a bit, but quieted down when you saw a lady staring at you down the aisle.
“Sorry ma’am we cannot accept your expired coupon on vagisil. No deal,” he yelled out loud for the lady to look flustered and turn away.
“You haven’t changed. You’re still a lying dickbag,” you seethed through your teeth.
“Seven years,” he growled. “Seven years I was locked away and waiting. You want to boohoo about your problems? Get in line. But sweetheart, no one is listening. You have to do things for yourself.”
You stared at him with anger coursing through you. You needed him. Dean and Sam needed him and he didn’t care. In a blink you cocked back your arm and punched him hard in his jaw, knocking him down to the ground.
He twisted around his jaw with a smile.
“Well someone has been eating their Wheaties.”
“You’re pathetic,” you growled while hovering over him. “You’re weak. Go kill yourself with going after your revenge. Don’t bother coming back. No one wants you or cares.”
You walked away briskly, leaving everything behind. Your mind raced with what to do next. Nothing. There was literally nothing you could do to change the situation except to go to the bunker and wait. You only prayed that they had some other plan.
______
Dean stared calmly at the road as he drove on into the night. Thirty minutes or so and he should be home; back to Y/N. A smile rose on the corner of his lips as he thought about seeing her again. But after the day he had, the meeting with Billie with her ominous warning, it left a lump in his throat. Could he really go back to Y/N and pretend that everything was okay? Normal? No, he had a feeling that he knew what to do. He just didn’t want to say it.
“So who are you so excited to see now?” He heard Rowena's question from the back.
“No one,” he shifted in his seat while glancing over to a sleeping Sam.
“Now who’s the liar now?”
“A friend.”
“A girl friend?”
“Stop it,” he warned.
“Fine,” she rolled her eyes as she sat back. “Figured I should know who else is in on this moronic plan.”
“Her name is Y/N,” Dean admitted. “She’s a hunter.”
“Another one in the plaid armor- great,” he could hear the sarcasm in her voice.
“She’s not like other hunters. She’s a doctor. She teaches kids how to stay safe from things like you,” Dean smirked at his gab at her.
“You don’t mean Y/N Y/L/N do you?”
Dean rolled his eyes as he shook his head. Fucking everyone knows her. How the hell did it take him so long?
“How do you know her?”
“Word gets around dearie,” she responded. “Especially if she’s as powerful as they say she is.”
“Who’s they?” Dean glanced back into the rearview mirror.
“I think you know who they are,” she smirked. “So is that your backup plan then? Using her?”
“No. She’s not a part of this.”
“Then why is she meeting us there Dean?” She leaned forward with her smirk growing bigger. “Like it or not Dean, I think she’s made herself a part of this and I do so look forward to meeting her.”
Dean rolled his eyes again to her and kept driving. Twenty minutes until he sees her. Twenty minutes until he has to say goodbye again. He couldn’t let her get further into this then she already has. The fact that Rowena now has a peaked interest was proof. The clock was ticking and they had one part left to go. He’d have to let her go before she got hurt or worse. It was for her own good.
______
The bunker was eerily quiet without the boys or Cas. You made due with what you could in the kitchen, making a balanced meal of steak stir fry for when they returned. Thirty minutes left for it to simmer. Thirty minutes until they arrived back.
“Y/N”
You heard your name off in the distance. Were they back? You walked towards the voice, trying to figure out where it came from while calling out ‘hello’. You felt lost until you heard it again. It sounded closer. You reached room 7B, and pushed the door open. After turning on the lights, you saw nothing but bookshelves.
“Odd,” you went to turn off the light, but heard your name again.
You crept in closer, pulling out your knife just in case. It seemed to be coming from behind the bookshelves which made you investigate them. You pulled on them just a little to reveal what seemed to be some sort of demon torture room.
“Wow,” you breathed out. They really do have a dungeon.
You walked towards the middle of the trap on the floor, curious as to where the voice was coming from. That’s when you felt something take over and transport you to another world that had been long ago.
The demon sat quietly in the middle of the trap, beaten down by his captors. His head lifted as he heard footsteps approach. A grin spreading across his face. The red headed demon from your dream walked slowly towards him.
“You have done well Azael. Thank you for your service of getting captured,” she stated as she moved closer, making a niche in the trap. “But your work is not done yet. Time to go to phase two.”
“I do as Lucifer instructs me to do. Not you. So Abaddon, what will he have me do next?”
“Lucifer requires his true vessel when he returns. We need to make sure that happens. You must find the one worthy of carrying such honor,” she grinned, loosening the ties that bounded him. “You have some deals to make.”
“What about the men of letters? Do we kill them all?” He said as he stood up from his seat with a smile. “I do wish to repay my thanks for their hospitality.”
“Not yet,” she smiled. “They are ensuring that his second in command will be born with all the power I’ve personally endowed and more. When the child is born, I will rid them of this world. But don’t worry, you’ll have your fun.”
“You’re trusting that a child born of the men of letters will follow you? You are insane. They may be a bunch of librarians, but they have spells-”
“The child will know none the wiser. She will be born into great power with me to guide her,” she cut him off. “They will have no choice, not that they’d disagree. Who would refuse to be the highest of the Holy's Queen? The one who will ensure that for generations his rule will continue.”
“Others will argue that it is their place. I’m surprised that you are so open and willing to do this? After all, wasn’t it you who dared defy Lilith?”
“She is weak and unpure. As time continues, he will need an heir of each generation that is pure. Part human, part … everything else. This is the only way to ensure it.”
“And what will you do when your plan fails? When heaven gets word of what you’re doing? Surely even you can’t be that naive to think that they will just allow this to happen?”
“Then they’ll all die,” she grinned. “Every last one of them.”
“You are crazy,” he grinned. “So I have to find the true vessel of Lucifer? That may take some time.”
“Time means nothing. Whether it’s this generation or the next, we will be ready. Lucifer will rise again and with all the power of his vessel and Queen not even heaven will stop it.”
The vision swept away with a cloud of smoke as you stood their in disbelief. That was the purpose for everything. That was the reason for everything. You were meant all along to be by a Winchester side, but it was Sam not Dean. The true vessel of Lucifer.
“Fuck,” you exhaled out as you regained your bearings.
Your mind raced as you walked out of the room, closing everything behind you. A part of you wanted to run away, especially if whatever was in this place would continue to torment you with visions of the past. Another part wanted to tell Sam and Dean as soon as you saw them, but what would that really change? Nothing except for Dean feelings being hurt that it was not kismet for you to be with him, but rather his brother? Confused was just one way to put how you were feeling, but you decided to leave it to fate whether you told them or not. What could a secret hurt anyways?
You were just finishing up dinner when you heard them come in, dropping their items down as they scattered throughout the bunker.
“We need to get started with tracking Gabriel,” Sam instructed Rowena.
You stepped out with two plates in your hands and a smile on your face. Trying to pretend like nothing was bothering you. Class A acting.
“How about dinner first? Apocalypse after a full belly?” Your smile had faded when you saw Deans face all bruised. “What the hell happened to you?”
“A little disagreement,” the lady whom you pursued to be Rowena stated as she smirked while she looked at him and grabbed a plate from your hand. Damn she was tiny for an all powerful witch. Her light was strong. “You must be Y/N that I’ve heard nothing about. We must chat.”
You sat down the other plate by Sam as you stared hard at Dean who was trying to refrain from looking at you. What had happened to him? His light was off, almost like he was sad? Maybe angry? Only one way to tell.
“Dean?” He finally looked over to you with a deep breath. “Come in the kitchen and get some food with me?”
He nodded and followed behind you slowly, glancing back at his brother.
“A wee bit of drama in the love nest?” You heard Rowena say with sarcasam.
“It’s their thing,” Sam scoffed with a chuckle. “Give them 10 minutes, they’ll be back to normal soon enough. They’re meant to be.”
______
As soon as he saw her car, Dean’s stomach dropped. Y/N was already here. He knew what he had to do, but that didn’t make it any easier. It definitely didn’t help that she had cooked for them and looked so perfectly normal, like she belonged. That made what he was about to tell her even harder.
“So want to tell me what happened there Dean?” She stayed as she dishes out food onto a plate for him.
“Rowena's bodyguard,” he simply replied. “Just another day at the office.”
“So is that why are you purposely trying to avoid looking at me?” She crossed your arm while leaning on the counter.
“Y/N, I-,” his eyes met hers, teary and remorseful. “I don’t think this is going to work.”
“You being a coward and not telling me what you’re thinking? Yeah Dean, that’s not going to work,” her words caught him off guard. “So spill it.”
“I don’t think you should be here. We’ve dragged you in this enough.”
He looked up to her, hoping that either she would understand and walk away, or get mad and walk away. Neither one was better in his mind, because both would hurt just the same.
“No.”
“No?” He asked, shocked at her reply.
“No, Dean. I’m in this. With you, with Sam, with Cas, and anyone else that is joining this rag team bunch of misfits,” he watched as she pushed herself away from the counter to approach him. “Ever since I met you I’ve been trying to think of excuses to say goodbye and never see you again, but it all keeps coming back to one thing. I love you. I love you Dean. That’s not going to change even if you try to push me away. I’m all in and so I hope you are too.”
His heart skipped a beat as she said those words. She loves him. He wanted to say it back, but he couldn’t when everything in him was telling him to send her away.
“How will this ever work? I don’t exactly live a safe normal life.”
“And I do?” Her hands met his, holding onto them. He felt the warmth and love moving through her.
“Y/N, I almost died yesterday. I could die today or tomorrow for all I know. Death has all but shown me the path.”
“You saw how you’re going to die?” Her eyes widened.
“Yeah,” Dean breathed out deep. “It’s not as an old man in his sleep either.”
“But Dean, that can change.”
“How are you so sure? Nothing else has pointed to anything different.”
“Because I have faith Dean. Also because I believe in free will. Sure we might have our possible endings, but nothing is never for certain until it happens.”
“I can’t risk losing you,” he felt a tear drop down his cheek.
“Hey, I’m not going anywhere.”
He pulled her into his chest and held her tightly. He didn’t want to ever let her go, but if he was to die tomorrow, at least he knew what heaven felt like.
“Why is it that we are each always trying to get away from each other when this feels so right?” You breathed into him.
“We both want what is right,” Dean sighed, placing his chin on the top of your head.
“Well I say fuck that,” you laughed. “As long as I want you and as long as you still want me. Neither of us are going anywhere.”
“You’re so stubborn,” he chuckled, making her lift her face to his. The crinkle of her nose made him grin. “And I love you too.”
______
As soon as Dean had started with his speech, you knew what it was about. Hell, you just tried to give the same speech a couple days ago. It was an interesting reversal to say the least, but the guilt ridden upon his face made it clear that he didn’t want to say the words, rather he felt he had to.
You weren’t going to back away, not after everything. Especially when there were so many questions left unanswered, like how your mom had kept everything a secret for most of your life. Or the fact that you were drawn to the Winchester’s, but for some reason it was Dean rather than Sam who was supposedly the one you were made for. No, you weren’t going to give up that easily.
You didn’t mean to tell him that you loved him either. Those were words that you swore you’d never say to anyone who wasn’t family. But there you were spilling your heart and it felt right. When he finally returned them to you, you knew that it really was.
Sam has all but demolished his plate as the two of you entered the room.
“Hungry there Sammy?” You chuckled as you sat down.
“This was probably the healthiest thing ever cooked in that kitchen,” he smiled as he patted his stomach. “We’re keeping you.”
You glanced over at Dean with a smirk. He returned one back with a roll of his eyes before taking a bite of the food.
“Damn, this is good,” Dean said with a mouthful. “I thought you couldn’t cook?”
“I can cook a little. There’s more out there,” you let them know before you took a bite.
Dean was only halfway through his plate when he followed Sam who was already pushing himself to the kitchen. Both men were comical as they nudged each other to be first. Brothers.
You let out a laugh as you went back to your plate, but not before noticing Rowena staring at you.
“Is the food alright?” You raised your brow to her.
“Why yes, it’s quite good. I’d like to know more about the chef though,” she leaned up with her head resting on her hands.
“What do you want to know?” You sat back with skepticism.
“Just how powerful are you?”
“I don’t know. Want to find out?” You smirked.
“Good answer lass,” she grinned. “I see why Dean is so smitten with you.”
“Pretty fond of him myself,” you retorted.
“But the question is, why? Why the Winchester’s? You would think someone like you would be scared of the likes of them.”
“Someone like me huh? I’m not quite sure which stories you’ve been reading at bedtime, but I’m not like those things.”
“And what things would that be?” She smirked.
“I think you know what I mean,” you gave your own smirk back. “I just happened to be passing through and met them. I can help, so I will. Does that sound like the stories you’ve heard about what I am?”
“If you listen to all that type of gossip,” she shrugged. “I like the one where I heard you were a leader. One who doesn’t back down from a fight for justice. A hunter with a heart. That just so happened to be extraordinarily strong and resilient.”
You let out a laugh as you shook your head. Leader? Nah. More like a background organizer. Hunter with a heart? Sure you’ll take that. Better than the wicked bitch that you had heard from a monster or two.
“You girls getting along out here?”
“Famishly!” Rowena smiled with a wink to you. “When you boys are done, I’d like to get started. We will need something that Gabriel has touched, especially if it was with his grace.”
“Will a pile of a prince of hell dust work?” Dean asked as he filled up his mouth, making you and Rowena both turn up your noses to him. “What?”
“Something a little less gross perhaps?”
“We’ll look,” Sam smiled as he finished up eating. “Just might take some time.”
“Well hurry dearie. We don’t have forever now do we?” Rowena glanced at you making you feel uncomfortable.
What was that about? Did she know something you didn’t? The Winchester’s trusted her, so you were trying to give her the benefit of a doubt. It just didn’t seem right.
“Y/N,” Sam stated, making you snap out of your thoughts. “Can you think of anything that might have some connection to him? You’ve probably spent more time with him than all of us.”
“Oh really?” Rowena raised her brow.
“Nothing that I can think of,” you shrugged while glancing at Rowena. What was that about? “He wasn’t really into gift giving or anything. More of ‘hey this is how you kill this’ and ‘apocalypse is happening, deuces’.”
“Perhaps we should try with you then?”
“What?” Dean and you asked in surprise.
“Why me?”
“Well Sam said it himself that you’ve spent more time with him than us all. Maybe you are the link we need to find him?”
“I’ve never been touched by his grace.”
“Are you sure about that?” Her brow raised again with a smirk.
“Yeah, I’m sure,” you retorted back. You sighed as you slouched back and considered that maybe she knew something you didn’t. You thought about his last encounter with him and how he backed out of the deal. Not likely that even if they found him, that’d he actually join, even if you did happen to know where he was going.
“Do we really need Gabriel anyways?” You found yourself asking out loud, making them all turn to you with furrowed brows. “I mean, what about Lucifer? Or Michael in the cage?”
“Absolutely not,” all three of them chimed together.
“Okay…” you breathed out again. “So we need the dickbag. Check.”
“Y/N,” Sam breathed in deep. “I know he wronged you, and hell he hasn’t been the best to us either in the past, but he’s the only one who’s ever tried to do right. His brothers, well, they only care about themselves.
You shook your head as you laughed silently to yourself. ‘No, Sam you’re wrong,’ you said to yourself. But there was no changing their mind. It was a dead end for them no matter what. He would never agree or he would and stab them in the back at the last minute. No use in arguing with them.
“What do you need me to do?”
“Just sit there. Allow the magic to do the rest,” Rowena responded.
“Fine. Whatever. You can try.”
“Y/N, you don’t have to,” Dean stated, looking into your eyes to make sure you were okay.
“All I have to do is sit. Not like I’m doing anything else,” you gave a chuckle back. “Let’s do this.”
You sat patiently with Dean as Sam and Rowena went to fetch the ingredients for her spell. There was nothing but silence as you laid your head in his shoulder, resting your eyes.
“Comfy?”
“Yes,” you moaned with a smile. “You?”
“I’d be comfier without all this extra stuff,” he replied, looking down to you turning your face to his.
“Soon enough,” you yawned.
“Go ahead and close your eyes until we’re ready. You can go lay in the bedroom.”
You nestled into him closer, not wanting to leave.
“I like this better.”
_______
Dean laid his head on yours as he waited. Y/N was blissfully sleeping now, nestled into his chest. He wanted to move, but he wanted to hold on to this feeling a bit longer. It was almost to the point where his arm had fallen asleep by the time he saw Sam and Rowena come back in.
“Aw, how cute,” Sam grinned, sitting the bowl full of ingredients down in front of him.
“Shut up,” Dean smirked as he lifted his head and shifted a bit in his seat.
He went to wake up Y/N, but Rowena interjected.
“Let her sleep. This will only take a moment,” she smiled.
Dean laid back his head onto Y/N while Rowena began to recite the spell. She laid her hand on Y/N’s arm, which made her nestle herself into him more. Sam sat down a chess piece along the map that laid across the table. As Rowena spoke, the piece lit up in a glow and started to shake. Dean’s eyes stayed glued to it as he sat up more, waking up Y/N in the process. She opened up her eyes slowly, adjusting to what was happening. The illuminated piece continued to shake rapidly until in a blink, it just stopped. It was nothing but a regular chess piece again.
“Bollocks,” Rowena sighed.
“Did it work?” Sam asked, hopeful that it did.
“No,” she responded with a scoff. “I thought it would. She has the stench of archangel all over her.”
“Excuse me?” Y/N piped up.
“Oh you’re awake now dearie,” Rowena tried to grin.
“What the hell do you mean I have the stench of archangel?”
Dean with his brother stared at Rowena hard for an answer. She pursed her lips before rolling her eyes in defeat.
“It means that obviously you have been around him quite often. Perhaps given gifts?” Rowena raised her brow.
“Like I said,” you shot back. “He’s never given me anything.”
“Fine,” she shrugged. “We will just have to find another way.”
You gave her a side eyed glance. What did she mean you reeked of archangel? Did she somehow know that you had seen Gabriel? You wondered how powerful this witch really was.
“Well,” Dean sighed. “I’m going to go check up on Cas.”
“I’m going to go look for anything else that might be in the archives,” Sam added.
Dean gave you a kiss on top of your head before he walked out with his brother following behind, leaving you alone with Rowena. You glanced over to her again, noticing her stare.
“Is there something you want to say?”
“I was waiting for you to confess.”
“Confess what?” You lied.
“That you know where our little angel is,” she smirked. “Like I said, you stink of archangel.”
“He’s not going to help,” you snapped back. “He wouldn’t.”
“And why not?”
“Because,” you groaned before sighing out. “Because he’s on some power trip for revenge. Also because he’s a dick.”
“So why the secret if you know where he is? The Winchester’s can be very persuasive if need be.”
“Because I don’t want to get their hopes up,” you breathed out deeply. “Because he’s their one shot and I tried, but it didn’t work already. We just need to find another way.”
“I’ll keep your secret, but they won’t give up. He’s they’re best chance. So anything you can tell me will give us a better start.”
“He’s going to a bar,” you admitted. “He’s going after Frenir. I have the address, but don’t...don’t say how you got it. I don’t even know if he will be there by the time they get to him.”
“I do suppose it’s a start,” she sighed with disappointment. “But keeping secrets does no one any good here. Especially in a time crunch.”
Before Sam or Dean could get back you gave her the address. When you both heard someone coming back in, she stated that she had a possible location. Central City, Colorado, about a 6 hour drive if they sped.
“How?” Sam said, walking back in with a worn book.
“A little persuasive magic,” she smirked.
At that moment Dean walked in, putting his phone away.
“Well apparently heaven is no help,” He said with a groan. “Cas is on his way.”
“Rowena has a location,” Sam interjected.
“Well let’s go,” Dean said quickly. “You coming Y/N?”
You glanced over at Rowena who was raising her brow to you. Why didn’t she tell them? She had the opportunity. What did she want in return? That eerie feeling that something else was happening would not leave you, especially since you couldn’t read her. That was the part that killed you. She somehow had it blocked. Freaking witches.
“Um, go ahead without me guys. It’d be better if it was just the two of you.”
“You sure?”
“Yup,” you smiled. “I’m going to work with Rowena more to keep tracking him.”
“Better hurry boys,” Rowena smiled.
They both left in a hurry, Dean attempting one more time to have you come but you declined once more. After they left, it was just you and Rowena with nothing but time.
You tried to preoccupy yourself with anything else to act busy while secretly observing her. She was up to something else. You even opted to clean up the mess from dinner, an easy thing to do when there were no leftovers. She sat patiently at the table reading a book, almost perfectly still. Only moving to turn the pages. At least two hours had past when you couldn’t hold it in anymore, you had to ask.
“So why didn’t you tell them?” You broke the silence.
“Because you asked,” she smirked as she sat down the book.
“And what exactly do you want in return for your silence?” You gave her a skeptical look.
“Nothing much, maybe a little drop or two of your blood?”
“Why?” You scrunched up your nose.
“Because you have magic unlike any other,” she stated. “Magic that may be purposeful, especially against an archangel.”
“There it is,” you gave her a smug look. “I knew you were up to something.”
“My dear,” she grinned. “Life is about two things. You play the game or you sit out. Isn’t it better to be one step ahead of the competition?”
She pulled out an empty vial from her bag of tricks. You rolled your eyes to the fact that she was well prepared to take your blood, almost like she knew she could get it from the start. You reached into your pocket and pulled out your knife, flipping it open with ease. You cut into the softest part of your hand and allowed your blood to trickle into the vial, noting that the first chance you got, you were definitely getting it back.
“That should do it.” She smiled, putting it safely back in her bag.
“I know the Winchester’s trust you and everything,” you looked her dead in the eye. “But just so you know that if I ever find out that my blood was used for anything malicious, you won’t have to question how powerful I am. You will know first hand. Got it?”
“Got it,” she smirked.
After grabbing a towel from the kitchen to wrap your hand up, you went back into the room. Cas was just coming in and descending the stairs.
“Well there’s our little handsome angel,” Rowena smiled.
“Where’s Dean,” he glared off into the room.
“They went to find Gabriel,” you stated, holding your hand with a towel.
“What happened to you?” His eyes furrowed.
“Accident with my knife,” you shrugged before showing him the wound. “It’s nothing.”
He laid his hand on it, making it quickly heal with his grace.
“Thanks.”
“You’re welcome,” he replied. “So you made contact and gave them the address?”
His words made Rowena raise her brow with a smug look.
“Yeah, Cas knows,” you rolled your eyes. “They think it was a spell that we got it from.”
“And Gabriel?”
“He’s probably there now, but who knows what he will tell them if they manage to find him,” you sighed. “He backed out of our deal.”
“If you have any other ideas on location,” Rowena interjected. “Then we would know for sure where our feathered trickster is.”
He glanced down at the table where your knife still laid open with your blood on it.
“This,” he said while picking it up. “This knife is spelled with his grace.”
“That’ll do,” she smiled as she grabbed it.
“What?” You looked at him confused.
“The reason why such a weapon has been able to be used against the creatures you have fought is because he spelled it with archangel grace,” he sighed with hesitation. “Among other things.”
“Other things?”
“Memories.”
“What?” You tried to laugh, thinking he was saying an awful joke, but he wasn’t. He was dead serious.
“No way,” you looked into his eyes for some sort of clue that he was lying. He wasn’t. “Give them back!”
He looked at you with hesitation, worried about your reaction.
“Please Cas.”
Rowena held the knife back up to him, allowing him to grab it with one hand and lay his other hand on your head. In an instant you remembered the boy in the woods. The boy who gave you the knife. Dean. You had met Dean. As the memories flooded back, there was another one right after.
You started cleaning up the cabin after you were left all alone. Celeste would kill you if her parents knew and you left it trashed. As you were almost done, you heard a familiar voice behind you.
“Eventful night I see?” Gabriel smiled.
“No thanks to you,” you huffed. “No thanks to me either. Some other hunters came and saved the day. I’m not ready yet.”
“You will be,” he picked up a chocolate bar off the table, and started pulling back the wrapper with a smile. “Just takes time.”
“At least the one was cute,” you giggled to yourself, holding the knife he had given you in your hand.
“Aw, I know that look,” he smiled as he took a bit of the chocolate. “What’s his name?”
“I don’t even know,” you shrugged. “But he was sweet. There was something about him that just felt, I don’t know. Safe?”
“Green eyes? Spikey light brown hair? Too big for him leather jacket?” He smirked with his brow raised.
“Oh so you know him?” You laughed.
“I do indeed,” he sat down the chocolate bar on the little table next to him. “Sorry about this kid.”
“Sorry about wha-“ he held up his hand to your head. From that moment all memory of that night was gone.
“So uneventful night?” He raised his brow to you.
“Yeah,” you smiled with no memory. “There was no monster. You gave me a dead end.”
“Maybe next time,” he smiled.
“Where did this knife come from?” You saw it in your hand.
“You just found it,” he replied. “You should keep it on you. Might come in handy.”
“Yeah,” you nodded. “Maybe I will.”
Cas lowered his hand down as you felt rage boiling under your skin.
“Son of a bitch,” you growled. “That dickbag.”
You tossed the knife into the bowl in front of Rowena.
“There use it, burn it. I don’t give a fuck,” you said in a huff before walking out. There was no way you could just stick around at the moment when you felt like this. Like you want to kill something. Particularly an archangel.

Castiel didn’t want to say anything, but he also couldn’t risk the memory spell breaking when it was used to find Gabriel. Spells are delicate things after all, easily broken. Y/N leaving in anger was what he had feared, but he had a feeling that she would be back as soon as she had time to process everything. He had wished that he could explain why he had done it, but his brotherin were known to keep secrets, even from heaven. He tried to believe it was for good intentions, but only Gabriel would give his reasons. He just hoped that they could find him.
“Well there goes a happy camper,” Rowena glared over to Cas. “What now?”
“Find Gabriel,” he instructed. “Let her be. She needs time and after we find him, she’ll need answers.”
She recited the spell, the chess piece moving rapidly along the map. It was right in the same area that Y/N had said, Central City, Colorado. The boys were headed in the right direction.
“I guess all we do now is wait and see what the Winchester’s find,” Rowena sat back down with her book, opening to her last page.
Castiel sat patiently staring at the map intently, making sure that the piece did not move. Hours had passed, but he would not move. Rowena had gotten up to make tea, when Castiel saw it start to shake again. It darted all around the board. He was moving fast, but to what? Suddenly the piece stopped, just right outside of Lawrence.
“Well that’s interesting,” she smiled as she went to reach for her phone to call the Winchester’s , but Cas gripped her wrist.
“If he’s there, he’s there for one person.”
“You have her number then?” She glared at him.
After a few moments he watched as the piece moved again on the board, back towards the Winchester’s.
“ She’s already taken care of it.”

With the anger and knowledge of everything that day had shown you, you made the quick decision as you left to go home. Everything about your life was more and more lies covered up and you just wanted an escape. You had even contemplated packing up everything and leaving, to hide away forever from it all. Maybe go overseas? Then the thought of Dean came to mind and how you couldn’t bear to never see him again. Fucking Winchester’s. If this was a cosmic joke, someone really had it out for you.
Driving had always calmed you down and it did somewhat, but you weren’t turning around. Not to sit with your hands tied to do nothing. It was just the road, your baby, and you at peace. The way it was meant to be. You were just a few miles from your house when all of the sudden you saw Gabriel in the backseat of your car.
“What the hell?” You quickly pulled over along the deserted country road. “Gabriel!”
“Hi to you too,” he sat there gripping his side.
The sight of him led you to punching him square in the jaw. No remorse to his already inflicted pain.
“What the hell?”
“My memories Gabriel! My fucking memories!” You seethed.
“So that cat is out of the bag,” he groaned as he adjusted himself. “Let me guess the Winchester’s little boyfriend Castiel?”
“You have some nerve showing up here!”
“I’m hurt,” he yelled as he showed you his wound. “I need help.”
“Go fuck yourself,” you turned around back to the steering wheel, hoping he would just vanish.
“If I showed you why, would you help me then?”
“Doubt it.”
He gently laid his hand on your head, a memory now flashing before you. Not one of yours though. His.
Your mother was sitting in a rocking chair, cuddling you. Humming the tune she so often did.
“Special child there,” Gabriel stated.
“Is she…” you mother started to say.
“Just like your sister? I’m afraid so,” he stated as he brushed your skin with his hand.
“They will be after her,” you mother looked up to him.
“They will,” he nodded. “I can hide her. I can hide both of you.”
“But what about-“
“You’ll have to leave this all behind,” he interjected. “Everyone behind. My brothers are already aware of what is coming. It’s too late for them, the pieces have all been placed. But they don’t know about her. We have to protect her or else all may be lost for everyone.”
“Do it,” she softly replied with a tear rolling down her cheek. “Protect her. Keep her away from the darkness, there is no light to be found on the other side. Be her guardian angel.”
“With my life,” he solemnly spoke.
A tear rolled down your face as the memory disappeared fading into another.
A young librarian looking woman stood by Gabriel’s side, watching as your mother packed up her belongings. She must have been an angel or something, since it appeared that they were gone unnoticed by her.
“Your messing with Fate there Gabriel,” she warned. “I do not like it and neither will your brothers.”
“It’s their battle. Not mine.”
“They will not give up so easily, especially if they find out what you are doing.”
“Then I’ll hide. I’ll become something else. Gabriel will be no more.”
“You can try,” she looked at him with seriousness. “But Fate has a way of always coming true.”
The memory faded away in a cloud, the night sky gleaming through the windshield was all you could see.
“Was, was that Fate?” You turned to him.
“Yeah, I have to say, she’s kind of a big bitch,” he chuckled, but groaned immediately after due to his pain. “So what do you say? Are you going to help me?”
You sat there in hesitation. It made sense finally why everything had happened. It was all to protect you. All the secrets, the lies. It was all for you. You were meant to be with them all this time, but it also meant danger for everyone. A risk that you knew that none of you would ever take, but now? You didn’t want to lose them. They were family.
“No,” you shook your head. “I’m not going to be the one to save you. You have to do something else for me.”
“What?” He groaned.
“You know what,” you glared at him. “The Winchester’s. You have to help them, but they can’t know about this. About any of this.”
“And how do you suppose I do that? Especially after I just killed Loki’s son? I’ll have a target on me.”
“Go to them, ask them for help. A couple of demigods should be no problem for them with an archangel by their side. Even an injured one,” you glared. “They’ll want to make a deal and this time, you keep it. You will help them with their mom. You will stop hiding and stand up for what is right.”
“You drive a hard bargain,” he groaned again. “But alright. I guess I’ll be seeing you soon.”
He snapped out in a blink, leaving you alone with your thoughts. The tears rolled down your eyes, imagining everything that your mother had given up, it was to protect you. All the fights, the warnings. “Why would a sane person go towards the darkness when there was no light to be found on the other side?” She would always say to you. She knew what was on the other side and after years of fighting against her, here you were. But she was wrong, because for the first time in a long time, as your glance caught your reflection in the rearview mirror, you could see the light.

Did you ever really need somebody? And really need 'em bad. Did you ever really want somebody? The best love you ever had.
It had been four days since they arrived back. Sam was busy hounding a million questions out of Bobby about demons and going through lore while Dean kept himself busy trying to salvage what he could from the wreckage. You stayed off to the side for the most part, watching and listening to them while you worked on your own car and muddled through possible cases. There was something they weren’t telling Bobby and you, and by the way he was acting, there was something Dean was keeping from Sam too. What it was, you didn’t have a clue, but it had to be big the way that Dean kept silent.
“Hey, figured you needed a drink or something,” you stated while offering Dean a beer while he was crutched down to take off the broken fender.
“Thanks,” he replied while standing up, taking it from your hands.
He popped off the top, almost emptying it in one large gulp before pulling it away and wiping his mouth off with his sweaty forearm. The sweat poured down him and glistened off his sun touched skin. You would be lying if you said that it wasn’t a complete turn on at the moment where it was a little hard not to stare.
“Was there anything else?” He asked as he tipped it back again, taking another large sip.
“Just wanted to see how you were doing out here,” you replied with a tight smile. “Didn’t know if you needed help.”
“I got it,” he said as he handed you back the empty bottle and went back to his spot on the ground. “Why don’t you go see if Sam wants help? The boy could use it.”
“Yeah, I don’t feel like going through books I’ve read 100 times before,” you rolled your eyes. “He’s not going to find what he wants in there. Nothing about a yellow eyed demon.”
“So you know about Azazel huh?” He scoffed. “Guess Bobby filled you in.”
“Something like that,” your words trailed off with your thoughts. Azazel. You had a name now.”I mean, you probably know more than me about him.”
“Nope,” Dean popped off his lips, stopping you from finding out anything else.
You weren’t going to take his ‘Nope’ for an answer. Even more now you knew he was hiding something. You just had to try harder.
“I’m starving so I’m going to grab some burgers. Want one?”
“You really have to ask that,” he laughed while looking up to you, a little grease on the side of his freckled clad nose.
“Wasn’t sure if you had enough grease to last ya there on your face Winchester,” you chuckled before walking away.
While waiting on your order to be done at the diner, you made your way to the liquor store nearby to replenish the fallen soldiers of Bobby and the Winchester’s 2 day binge. Hell, you were the one dying but their livers were probably going to give out before then if they continued the way they were.
“Hey trouble,” a voice rang as you felt arms wrap around you from behind.
“That better be Josh or I’m going to kick someone’s ass,” you said as you pushed his arms off.
You turned to him and saw his smile, brightening up like a kid on Christmas morning.
“Didn’t know you were still in town.”
“Didn’t think I had to tell you,” you stated as you turned back around, waiting for your turn at the register.
“Well since you’re in town,” he purred out. “What do you say later tonight…”
“Isn’t there someone else that you could be asking that question?” You snapped, annoyed at how he was only thinking with his tiny brain in his shorts at the moment.
“They’re not as fun,” he grinned. “ A couple drinks and you could come back to my place. Have a good time like always?”
“Yeah well I’m busy,” you scoffed as you put the various bottles up on the counter from your basket.
After paying, you ignored him asking you to call him. He was getting attached. Like a dog searching for his bone, which was not what you had agreed to years before. Maybe in another life you would have given him more of a chance than a couple late night drunken hookups to mask your loneliness, but that wasn’t your reality. You had practically a year left, why put someone through the ache of losing you? Hurting Bobby was enough and now that John was dead, you felt the anger sitting idly in the pit of your stomach towards that yellow eyed bastard. No, you had better things to do. He had to die even if it was the last thing you did, and time was running out.
You pulled up to the house and saw Dean kicking the hell out of the spot where the fender was. You sat in silence until you saw him walking around with his hands on top of his head in defeat. Something bad had happened or he finally let reality hit him.
“I don’t think that’s the right technique to fix her Dean,” you said carrying the bags in your hands.
“Yeah, well, it’s better than the alternative.”
“Which is?”
“Nothing,” he sighed. “Forget it. You got food?”
“Extra bacon and pickles right?” You asked while holding up the greased stained bag although you knew the answer.
“Extra onion?”
“Hell no. You stink enough right now without it.”
He grabbed the bag from your hand and led the way into the house. Sam was sitting on the couch still stuck in a book while Bobby sat dozing off at his chair.
“Grub is here,” you called out, snapping their attention to you. “Burgers, fries, and even pie for after.”
Dean was already elbows deep into the bag pulling out the contents when the other two finally got up from their spots. It only took a moment of muttered ‘thank you’s’ after they grabbed their food that they all went right back to their same spots.
“You’re welcome,” you whispered in annoyance.
After eating you made your way out to the garage to work on your car. The a/c seemed to work now, but while you were here you figured you might as well give her an oil change and that to keep her pristine. You were just about to get up from pulling the drain plug when you heard Dean whistle before chuckling to himself.
“Y/N under the hood. Now there’s a sight I never thought I would see.”
You wiggled your way out and gave him a hard glare and a flip of the finger as you sat up in your spot.
“Bite me.”
He laughed at your childish comeback as he rummaged through the tool box. It was nearing dark where he should have stopped, but you could see he was just trying to distract himself from his thoughts. Your curiosity wanted more answers and getting to him was probably your best shot. Problem was that he was too damn stubborn to say more. He went to leave after picking up a wrench when an idea came to you.
“Hey Dean,” you called out while standing up.
“Yeah?” He turned towards you.
“After I’m done here, how about we get out of here for a bite and get a drink? You know for old times sake.”
You could see the hesitation in his eyes, before he gave you a nod that he was at least willing to have a drink with you. That was at least a start. Now the challenge was how many drinks does it take to make a Winchester spill their secrets?
After finishing up and cleaning yourself up you found Dean still outside, now maneuvering with the dim light of the moon and stars.
“Ya ready for that drink?” You asked as you approached.
“Just finishing up,” he stated without any enthusiasm.
You pushed your hand on top of his as he went to sand down the finish, stopping him to make him look at you.
“Come on Dean,” you stated. “She’ll be here in the morning. Go clean up a bit and let's relax for a second.”
He let out a low growl in defeat as he laid down the pad and went into the house. Dean Winchester sure was a stubborn man, but it seemed that you still had one Ace up your sleeve; he couldn’t say no to you.
After allowing Dean to drive, which took a lot of will power on your end to agree to, the two of you made it to the closet bar.
“Hey Y/N!” You heard your name being called. “The usual?”
“Make it two,” you smiled at the bartender Tony who had been serving you since you printed out your first fake ID.
The two of you sat off to the side. Dean almost immediately drinking all of his whiskey before you could take a sip.
“Jesus man,” you teased. “Let a girl catch up!”
He gave a slight chuckle as he shook his head.
“Oh darlin, I don’t think you could ever catch up to me.”
That was your opening to get to him, so you played the part of being annoyed.
“Want to bet on that one?” You challenged.
“If you feel like losing,” he laughed a little more.
“Drink for drink,” you stated back with confidence. “First one to tap out, get sick, or pass out has to do whatever the other person tells them to until the sun comes up.”
“You’re really that confident huh?” He shook his head again. “Fine. Agreed. It’s your funeral.”
You took the drink and shot it back in a gulp earning a chuckle from Dean. You wiped your mouth and gave him a wink.
“Oh baby, you ain’t seen nothin yet.”
After a pitcher and a dozen shot glasses in front of you, he was just starting to open up.
“I think the bartender has a thing for you,” Dean said while pouring himself another beer from the new pitcher after Tony sat it down.
“Why would you say that?”
“He keeps looking over here,” his eyes moving towards Tony’s direction.
“Yeah, I’m not the one he’s looking at,” you stated with a smile. “I’m far from his type.”
“Why would you say that? You’re hot,” Dean exclaimed. “I mean, if you like the whole tough and stubborn girl act you got going on.”
“Well, I’m missing a couple things he likes,” you laughed. “Broad shoulders. Big hands. The extra appendage between my legs.”
Dean has almost choked on his drink as you let the last part pop off your lips. He started chuckling to himself while nodding his head.
“Yeah, guess you’re not his type.”
“Nope, but tell me about this whole ‘you’re hot’ thing you just blurted out,” you winked while taking a sip.
Dean’s face had started to flush. Probably a little bit of embarrassment but most likely because of all the alcohol finally hitting him. He opened his mouth to speak but was cut off by a familiar voice behind you.
“You’re busy huh? Yeah I see with what,” Josh snarked, already way past hammered to arrive at the bar.
Before you could talk Dean had turned his head and cocked up his eyebrow towards him.
“You have a problem with old friends having a drink there buddy?” He stated before taking another sip.
“I do when it’s you,” Josh seethed.
“And who might you be?”
“Dean, you remember Josh from high school. You know the one you embarrassed in front of his friends when we were teenagers for talking out of his ass like usual,” you commented. “Seriously Josh, get out of here before I embarrass you.”
“Fuck you bitch.”
“What did you call her?” Dean stood up quick, scrapping the chair legs on the floor.
“And fuck you too bitch,” Josh stated with his head held high to Dean, challenging him.
Before Dean could even move you had already cocked back your arm and hit Josh in the face so hard that he knocked back into the wall. Tony was already at your side but was only quick enough to grab him before he hit the floor.
“Better get out of here Y/N before the sheriff comes looking for you,” Tony said as he pulled Josh out to the back. “I’ll cover for you what I can. I saw self defense.”
“Thanks Tony,” you replied as you laid down a handful of $20’s on the counter. “Come on Dean. Let’s go.”
Dean looked at you puzzled but followed your lead after downing the rest of his drink. When you reached your car you felt his hand on your wrist, stopping you to say something.
“What the hell was all of that for?”
“A mistake I’ve made more than once,” you answered. “That’s all.”
“Seriously? With that douche?”
“The sex was good,” you blurted with sass. “Him being an asshole made it easier not to give two shits about anything more.”
“That’s what you’ve been doing all these years? Hooking up with assholes?”
“What else? Find someone I care about that’s too chicken to stand up for himself? Someone I have given up everything for?” You blurted back, hitting him with the knife that was in your heart all these years.
“What the hell are you talking about?” He asked in confusion.
You just shook your head with a scoff and a quick laugh as you thought about your impending doom all because you were a stupid teenager in love. Most ironic part is he didn’t even know.
“Nothing,” you sighed out. “Let’s get going before the sheriff comes alright? I’m already on her bad list.”
The car ride was quiet except for the old Zepplin tape that was playing in the background. When you got back to Bobby’s you found that he was already passed out at his desk per usual and Sam was asleep upstairs.
You grabbed the remains of the bottle on the desk and took it with you as you walked back outside to the night air to the garage. It was well after midnight now. Happy birthday to you. One year left.
Swinging away at it, you sat yourself on the bench, thinking about how your chance to get out of your deal with taking down Azazel was probably ruined now that Dean knew what type of person you have become.
“You know drinking alone isn’t always that fun,” Dean said as he walked in, carrying another bottle in his hands. “I do believe that we had a bet.”
“Let’s call it a tie,” you said before drinking more down in a thirsty gulp.
“Since when do you give up so easily?” He smirked. “I remember a girl who was so stubborn and brave that she put John Winchester in his place.”
“And look how well that one turned out,” you shook your head while staring at the ground.
“You know, there was always something I never quite understood,” Dean stated as he sat next to you. “What happened that day that Bobby threatened to kill him? I mean, you were with him. Did he…”
“He didn’t do anything,” you stated firmly. “I was an idiot and put myself into some trouble. He just happened to be there.”
“So what was it?”
You let out a deep breath, contemplating telling him what had happened, but now that his dad was gone you didn’t know how he would react. You didn’t know what he would even think of the fact that you were going to die because of him.
“Doesn’t matter,” you replied. “Can’t change the past.”
“True,”Dean nodded before taking another sip. “Wish I could.”
“Don’t we all.”
“So why did you really get into hunting? You were smart as hell, you could have done something else. Something less dangerous like bungee jumping.”
His comment made you snicker with the comparison of fighting monsters less dangerous than jumping off of high places.
“It became what I know, what my family does. Yeah it’s risky, but the rewards of helping someone isn't too bad to live with,” you replied. “What about you? Ever think to give it up now that it isn’t expected of you? Maybe settle down or something?”
“Maybe, but I guess I’m like you too where it’s what I know. It’s what I’m good at.”
“You’re good at other things too.”
“Like what?”
“Well, I’ve watched you working on Baby. You’re not too bad at it. Probably could open your own shop or something,” you shrugged. “Or maybe become a legit detective to solve mysteries. Having legal access to files and a paycheck wouldn’t be a bad thing.”
“God, I’d have to have to be normal and stop scamming credit cards and hustling pool,” Dean laughed. “Give up all the fun for responsibility.”
“Not all the fun. You could still chase down the bad guys and get the adrenaline rushing. High speed chases, frisky women.”
“Names Winchester, Dean Winchester,” Dean replied in a horrible James Bond accent.
“Anyways,” you chuckled. “Tell me more of what’s going on. Bobby somewhat filled me in that Sam was at Stanford when your dad had gone missing and the two of you have been together since.”
“Yeah, I was doing a hunt alone and after not hearing anything for a while I wanted back up.”
“So what now? You two are going back at it or what?”
“Not sure,” He exhaled. “Kind of stuck at the moment. I know that he needs to go back. He was out and it was good for him, even if I want to be selfish and keep him around.”
“I don’t think it’s selfish necessarily. I mean, you could go with him and at least have a home to go to after being on the road.”
“Maybe,” Dean’s eyes and voice trailed off in his response. “Remember the last time we were in here?”
“You mean like 6 hours ago?” You laughed, knowing damn well that night he was referring to.
“Smartass,” he smirked. “No, I was teaching you to fight and Sam caught me kissing you.”
“Yeah, poor kid. Probably scarred him for life,” you chuckled while taking a drink.
“Ever think about that?”
You furrowed your eyebrows to him, wondering why he would bring that up after all these years. You didn’t want to tell him that you had worked hard to forget it, but never really couldn’t. The only thing that mustered out of you was a simple ‘why?’
“I don’t know. Maybe just reminiscing a bit,” he shrugged before taking another drink.
“Uh huh, I think you’re drunk there Winchester. You’re getting all sensitive and girly over there.”
“Shut up,” he laughed.
“Make me,” you challenged.
That was the only encouragement he needed to swiftly move his hands to ferociously tickle your sides making you squirm and giggle in your spot.
“Still ticklish I see,” he grinned while continuing.
“Dean, stop it! I’m going to piss myself, you ass!”
That of course didn’t make him stop. He kept at it, now standing in front of you as you fell back into the table with tears from laughter streaming from your eyes.
“Dammit Dean, I’m going to kick your ass!” You gasped out in between giggles.
“I’d like to see you try,” he laughed as he slowed down to a stop.
He settled his hands on either side of you, pushing up his weight as he smiled down to you beat red face.
“Made ya shut up for a second,” his grin widening with pride.
“That’s because you're a damn cheater,” you retorted.
Your phone buzzed and dinged of an incoming message, making Dean push himself back so you could get up to retrieve it.
Happy birthday Y/N! Hope you’re doing well and not with some rando! Got a case for you. Ya busy? I need to buy you a drink or two to celebrate after. -Jo
Jo Harvelle, one of your best friends that you met through Bobby had a case for you. That would have been a good thing, but you weren’t ready to leave unanswered questions just yet
Thanks. Might be a few days before I get out there. Working on something. Get another hunter on it just in case. We’ll get together soon. -Y/N
You finished typing and slapped your phone shut before setting it down on the table. You had noticed Dean was watching you the whole time while pretending he didn’t care. He obviously did though, where the shifting of his feet told you he was going to ask the question.
“So was that a guy or something?” He asked before nervously taking a sip from the bottle.
“Why would you think that?”
“What other type of texts do people get at 3 AM?”
“That’s very telling of you there Dean,” you laughed while jumping off the bench to stand.
You made him wait anxiously as you slowly moved and stretched yourself out before giving him an answer.
“It was a new case by the way, not a hookup text,” you stated while grabbing the bottle from his hands and putting to your lips to take in a deep swallow.
“So you’ll be leaving huh?” Dean’s eyes darkened as he watched the liquid move down your throat.
“Not right away,” you shrugged while handing him the bottle. “What about you? Leaving as soon as Baby is all fixed?”
Dean stayed silent, a battle of choices clearly happening within his thoughts.
“I mean, with what happened to your dad, I’m sure you’re going to go after that demon,” you pondered out loud, hoping he would take the bait. “I’m sure you have some plan or know how to track it.”
Dean stayed silent, now purposefully keeping his gaze away from yours. You waited a moment to say anything, but the silence was deafening.
“Whatever,” You huffed out as you started to walk past him back to the house.
His hand gripped your arm tightly, making you stop to look up to him. His eyes were searching for something, but he just looked completely lost.
“Y/N, I-“ he mumbled, still looking for the right words of whatever he was about to say.
“You know what? I think it’s getting late.”
He nodded his head while lowering his hand off of you.
“Goodnight Dean.”
“Goodnight Y/N.”
You couldn’t find sleep though as you laid on your bed, trying to figure out how to crack him. He was good, but you were better at keeping secrets. He’d spill soon enough.
Your phone had chimed again. Jo now curious as to what you were doing.
Are you on a case? Need back up? I’m sure I could sneak from my mom for a day or two. We will make it a girls trip! -Jo
Poor Jo, stuck in the hunters world, but not allowed to join in on the fun. You’d thought about taking her along once or twice, but Ellen would murder you.
Nah, more like boy trouble. Blast from the past is back and he’s not giving any details on what brought him back. - Y/N
It’s not THE blast from the past is it? The one who you grew up with that you’re still goo goo for? :) -Jo
The very same. Still as gorgeous as ever. Still as frustrating too. -Y/N
Well then you obviously have to stay. Maybe you’ll get laid for once by someone that isn’t a complete Douchebag. -Jo
That one guy from Pittsburgh wasn’t bad. -Y/N
Uh huh, what was his name? - Jo
Jo had you there. You couldn’t even argue it. No point in ever learning names. No point in ever telling her their names either. Dean included. It was better to leave it alone. Only after a drunken night did you spill how you almost lost your virginity to the only guy you ever cared about, only to have him leave forever and you losing it to some dickwad behind the bowling alley.
Bite me Jo. I’m off to bed. I’ll leave tomorrow night to help you if things don’t move along here. -Y/N
Good luck! -Jo
The morning sun had risen when you awoke to the sound of one of Bobby’s best up junkers leaving the property. Turning your head to the clock, it read 10 AM. Guess you really needed the sleep. Walking downstairs you saw Bobby staring out the window with a coffee in his hand just for you.
“Mornin,” you yawned as you grabbed it.
“You had one hell of a night.”
Your brow cocked up as you took a small sip.
“What do you mean?”
“You ain’t foolin me Y/N,” Bobby stayed firmly. “Sherif was already calling asking if you were still in town. Described you and Dean. I told her you were soundly sleeping with your bible next to your bed.”
“Great,” you mumbled before taking another sip. “Where is the dynamic duo anyways?”
“Headed towards Ellen’s ,” his words almost making you choke.
“What, why?”
“She left a message on John’s phone that she had a way to help,” Bobby stated with a shake of his head. “I hope they know what they’re getting into.”
“So they know about the roadhouse then?”
“No, but they will,” Bobby stated while walking away, stopping momentarily to look back to you. “By the way Y/N, watch what you do with Dean. That boy has been through enough already. I don’t know what he will do when he finds out that the clock is ticking.”
“Already handling it,” you rolled your eyes as you sat down the cup on the counter.
“Sure ya are,” you could hear the sarcasm dripping as he continued to walk away. “Just be careful and happy birthday.”
With the roll of your eyes you pulled out your phone, texting Jo that you were on your way.
You hurried to gather up your things and get dressed. Bobby was sitting silently at his desk reading lore as you walked past him to the door.
“Where ya going off to now?” His question making you stop. “Thought we would at least have our family dinner tonight. I was making your favorite.”
“A case just came up,” was the only thing you offered.
“Just running off again then? Not going to stick around for a day or two?”
“Bobby,” you sighed as you turned back around to the doorway to the living room. “I can’t stay cooped up here. You’re right, the clock is ticking. There’s still more out there that I have to do and I can’t be here if Dean and Sam are. You were right, I can’t get them attached.”
The lie you were spilling to him broke your heart a little as you saw the hurt in his eyes that you were leaving so soon. He wouldn’t approve of you following Sam and Dean. It had to be done.
“So you’re running away,” he shook his head.
“What do you want me to say? I have 365 days left. There’s only one ending to this, we’ve looked.”
“Just give an old man tonight with ya,” his eyes pleading. “After that you can run off and do what you’d like.”
“Fine,” you sighed in defeat, feeling your heart break for him. He had been the only person in the world that you really considered to be family and you knew that was true for him as well. “Just tonight. And I hope you don’t burn the steaks this time.”
He smiled back with a wink in his eye as he moved to the kitchen, leaving you alone with a feeling of guilt. Whatever Ellen knew, you just prayed that it had something to do with helping them find the demon. To find your one shot of getting out of your demonic deal. 365 days left. It was now or never.
