F-14D Tomcat, BUNO 163414, Tail Code AD, Modex 163, Operator: VF-101 Grim Reapers, Unit Markings: VF-101 Grim Reapers, Location: Atlantic Ocean off Virginia aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), Photo Date: 7 March 2005, Photo by Stephan de Bruijn airhistory.net/photo/287326/1…
This totally bodacious VF-101 Grim Reapers F-14D Tomcat (Modex 163) was photographed in flight over the Atlantic Ocean off Virginia aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt on March 7, 2005. Classic late-era Tomcat carrier action from the Atlantic Fleet replacement squadron in the final years before retirement!

F-14D from VF-213 Black Lions, at AMARC. One the Tomcats slated for refurbishment under the Maverick Act. She will fly again.

My D memory: 1st time I saw 1 was on Nimitz in W291. They came out from Mugu for some CARSUIT work. Up on Vulture’s Row when one went into full burner for a cat shot. MFG, my entire body cavity was resonating from the sound wave. They tore up the non-skid on the flight deck. 😮

Funny quick F-14D story from a buddy. The D could definitely handle the Viper.
