Addie couldn't help but smile as the underclassmen in the hallway moved aside for her to make her way to her locker. They weren't scared of her or anything, they were just being polite. The boys wanted her, and the girls wanted to be her. They would come to her for fashion advice, and when they had troubles with their friends, saying that she had to know the secret to lifelong friendships. After all, her and her two best friends had been together basically their whole lives. And now, they'd part ways. After 18 years, they only had about a year left together.
Her smile faltered a bit at the thought, and she glanced down and her plain baby blue sundress and strappy white heels. She didn't know how she'd make it without them. Who would she call when she got a new dress or purse? Who would she text to save her during a bad date, as she'd done so many times this summer? She knew they would all only be about an hour away, but she knew that she wouldn't see them very much. And who knows where he'd go.
A smile came back to her face as she came upon her locker, Rachel and Katie already waiting for her. They commented on her dress and shoes, her new Michael Kors purse she'd gotten the day before. It was like they hadn't seen each other in months, when they'd had lunch and went shopping 3 days ago. But as the three of them fell easily into conversation, she couldn't keep her eyes from darting around. Where was their fourth? He was normally here before her.
Jungkook had been a transfer student a year and a half ago, coming into the school just after Christmas break. Addie had found him interesting, a foreign boy whose family had moved here, and so she'd invited him to have lunch with her and her friends that first day. She wasn't aware of how close they'd all get, even though she was sure that her friends still annoyed him most times. He'd been accepted into their little clique. Addie had had some classes with him last year, but a part of her was hoping she'd have every class with him this year. Not only was he fun to hang out with, but he was smart and could help her. Had he not gotten back from Korea in time for the first day back?
"Hey! Are you even listening?" Katie snapped her fingers in front of Addie's face. "Rach said we have something for you. Come on." She looked around one more time, then followed her two friends. It was a good thing she didn't need any books for homeroom this year. With all the talking she hadn't even thought to get into her locker. She followed her friends to the end of the hallway, where they stopped in front of a small supply closet.
"You have something for me in there? Seriously?" She was confused to say the least. Rachel looked around before giving Katie a small nod. Before Addie even had time to be skeptical of her friends, Katie was opening the door to the closet and shoving Addie into it. As graceful as she was in heels and in dance, suddenly being thrown somewhere had her tripping, almost falling. But something caught her arm. She turned around in time to see Katie give a sly smile as she closed the door.
"I know you can hear me, and I can hear you guys," Katie spoke from outside the door, and Addie could tell she was leaning against it. "I have the key, and I won't go to class and neither will you guys if it comes down to it. You aren't coming out until you start officially dating."
Now Addie was thoroughly confused. Dating? 'You guys'? What did she- oh. Someone had caught her when she was pushed inside. She turned around and was face to face with Jungkook. She had to admit, she was glad to see him. But this was such a tiny space.
"Hey." She took a step back, a tiny one, and her back was against the door. Her white purse slipped down her arm and into her hands, folded in front of her. She tried to make the awkward go away. "I was beginning to get worried you hadn't made it back. You never get here after me."
