This was probably the dumbest idea she’d ever had. Well, maybe not the dumbest, but one of them.Hyojin had known something was up with Acacia for a while and she was dying to find out. They weren’t the closest of friends- in fact, they had only met a few months ago- but Hyojin wasn’t stupid and she knew people well enough to tell when something was suspicious.Hyojin’s first guess would have been that Acacia was a drug dealer. It would have been the perfect job for her, really. Who would expect a girl with a cute face like hers to be selling drugs? She probably wasn’t the mastermind behind it, but she could be a middle man. Whatever Acacia was getting herself into, Hyojin was certain that it was criminal. Why? Well, the other woman kept a pretty low profile, she seemed to be a bit on edge lately (suggesting that she might have been close to getting caught), and... honestly, Hyojin just kind of had a hunch. She had to be sneaky to figure it out, though. Unfortunately her memory absorption only worked when she was touching the other person. Worse was that it often took for-fucking-ever when she wasn’t touching their head or their face to get a direct link. It was a huge drawback, but she hadn’t figured out how to change it yet.Trying to not seem too suspicious, she decided that the best way to go about this was to just ruffle the other girl’s hair. Seemed innocent enough, right? They were hanging out at Hyojin’s apartment when she decided she might as well try it. There was a movie on in the background and Acacia had just said something kind of funny, so the timing was nearly perfect- distraction and incentive. She reached up to ruffle Acacia’s hair, laughing as she did so.If this was something serious and Acacia found out that she knew, Hyojin could be really fucking herself over here. After all, if this was about drugs or armed robbery or something, she would be putting herself right in the middle of danger if she was caught with knowledge of the situation. She didn’t like the idea of being on the run from criminals, but fuck it. She needed to know.Almost immediately she found what she was looking for. Acacia was part of some small criminal organization- it seemed that they were mostly about theft. Not petty theft, though. Most of what she glimpsed from Acacia’s memories were grand burglaries. And... oh shit. She hadn’t expected that Acacia had some sort of powers, too. Teleportation? That’s what it seemed to be. And it looked like her partners had their own little powers, too. Now not only was she putting herself in danger of some criminal organization, but of some goddamned criminals with dangerous abilities. As if that wasn’t bad enough, she realized, soon, that she’d fucked up in her moment of shock. She’d accidentally leaked some of her own memories to Acacia- the most immediate ones of her new found knowledge of what the other girl did for a living. Thankfully, she shut herself off before that and quickly pulled away. But it was probably too late. Acacia likely now not only knew that Hyojin had some sort of memory related mutation, but she now also knew that Hyojin had used it to find out what kind of criminal activity she had been up to. With that kind of knowledge, she could easily get them caught. She knew the faces and names of all of Acacia’s accomplices. She knew exactly what they were capable of, where they liked to hang out, where they lived. She knew nearly everything from just those few moments of contact and, if Acacia was less forgiving than Hyojin hoped she was, Hyojin might have just dug her own fucking grave.
