I think maybe the memories erased/different incarnation type thing so Carmilla feels drawn to her but she's like "nah this can't be her she's different"

See, I kind of see that one as being more likely, if any of the whole Laura-is-Ell-in-some-form-or-maybe-Ell-is-Laura's-doppelganger theories are likely. But I just really, really, really love the idea of Laura completely having manipulated her audience and Carmilla.
