endless iconic f1 moments - seb on the grass
sebastian vettel wins the 2011 italian grand prix. the red bull driver was on pole position but was passed by ferrari’s fernando alonso, who made a fantastic start from fourth on the grid. the safety car was deployed after an accident at the first corner, and when racing resumed vettel took his chance to retake the lead. alonso pushed vettel to the edge of the track and the german was forced on to the grass. vettel kept his nerve and made the move stick into the next chicane. he went on to win the race. it was his first victory in italy since his maiden win with toro rosso in 2008.
endless iconic f1 moments – shanghai drama
lewis hamilton wins the 2011 chinese grand prix. the mclaren driver was third on the grid but almost had to start from the pit lane after his car developed an engine problem before the race. he made it out of the garage with only 35 seconds to spare before the pit lane closed. at the start of the race both mclaren cars jumped sebastian vettel to run first and second. teams ran a mixture of two and three stop strategies through the race. vettel retook the lead after beating jenson button in the pits; the brit almost stopping in the red bull pitbox by mistake. hamilton’s strategy dropped him behind his rivals but he used his fresher tyres to overtake fernando alonso, felipe massa, button and nico rosberg. he caught and overtook vettel with four laps to go, and won the race. it was the first time a driver had won the chinese grand prix multiple times.
today is canadian gp day so you all know what we are watching today: the race of the century, canada 2011
so after this race and during the break I decided to hold a marathon of watching the 2010s F1 seasons. mainly because I haven’t watched those when they were happening and I really want to see it all.
is it possible to do in four months? not likely. will I try? absolutely.
