Homework, short story.
Cramming a short story(a part of it only, ofc) for my homework. I'm not posting the full version so just ask me if you want to read it in full :> ---
Kate looked outside, only to see an unusual scene just a few blocks away. The trees seemed to have bore unusual fruits. They were huge and seemed to have different colors and shapes. This, though, did not satisfy her curiosity which was why she had to open the window. An unwelcome stench entered her room.
It was the scent of decay, of rotting flesh.
Trying not to puke, Kate used both her hands to cover her nose and mouth. After smelling this, she saw that there was blood dripping down the objects hanging from the trees and the trees were actually stained by the same crimson liquid.
The scent of decay would not go away.
Kate quickly got off her bed, searching for the scent spray for the room. She immediately closed the windows and drew the curtains. “None,” she thought, “I want none of what’s outside.”
Meanwhile, the rest of the neighborhood was terrified. They saw the bodies much, much closer. Three people were beheaded. One of them lost an arm, and another lost a leg. Both body parts were seen on the ground. The horrifying event seemed to have taken place in the park just a few steps to the right of the playground.
Nobody came to the playground that day.
Sleep, Kate felt, was something she did to escape the reality that she was alone. She had stopped going to school, and going outside altogether. She missed the ice cream she used to buy seven years ago and wondered if the vendor was still the same. Back then, she knew the sound the ice cream truck played from meters away and she could still tell every time it passed by her house.
“It hasn’t passed by yet…” A worried Kate said to herself.
