A little angsty and a little fluffy, okay maybe a lot of angst idk I don’t really read much angst let me know though :)
Kenda was sitting in a hammock with Bracken in the Fablehaven yard. In the distance, she could hear Seth playing with the saytrs. It was a warm summer day and Bracken was visiting from the fairy realm for a whole week and Kendra couldn’t be happier.
At some point, Kendra must’ve fallen asleep because she woke to the sound of thunder. Then she was falling in a pit of darkness for what felt like forever then out of nowhere Kendra hit the ground hard. Looking around she was in the yard hearing the thunder again she looked up to see the sky was dark, and Bracken was gone, so were Seth and the saytrs. Kendra got up as fast as she could and looked around trying to find where everyone went.
“Bracken!” she called out “Seth? Where are you?”
Kendra ran around the yard. The sky, still thundering in the background. With no luck in the yard, Kendra ran into the house, still no one not even Grandma and Grandpa. Her next idea was to check Warren’s cabin.
On her way to the cabin, shes stopped in her tracks do to hearing a sickeningly familiar voice.
“You won’t find them,” Ronodin said as Kendra was walking off the porch.
“Where are they,” Kendra asked turning to find him leaning against the door frame.
“You think I’ll tell you?” He said laughing, “It took you long enough to find them the first time. How will you find them now?”
“If you think that for one second-” Kendra started but Ronodin cut her off. “Now, now don’t too upset if you attack me, both Seth and Bracken will, well how do I put it, die.” He said with a sickening smile.
Then out of nowhere, there was a sharp pain in her stomach. Turning around Kendra saw it was...Bracken but it wasn’t him at all. His eyes were black and his horn was black, with her blood on it, he had just stabbed her! “He’s mine to control now and so is your brother,” Ronodin said from behind her. She was still in shock of what was happening when Seth came out of the shadows with the same black eyes as Bracken. Kendra fell to her knees blood covering her hands and stomach as she tried to stop the bleeding.
Then as her vision started to go blurry from blood loss and tears. She didn’t even notice that she hit the ground. Before Kendra was about to close eyes and let go, she saw Bracken’s eyes turn back to normal, and once he realized what he was seeing, what he had done, he dropped to her side and held her in his arms. Kendra heard something that sounded like Bracken yelling at Ronodin but she couldn’t really make out the words. Looking up at Bracken she heard him say her name as she fell into unconsciousness.
Kendra woke up with a start and fell out of her hammock. Looking around alarmed, she realized she had been having a nightmare, a terrible one at that. After tacking in her surroundings and realizing she was safe in her room at crescent lagoon.
Kendra decided to get up off the floor and walk around the treehouse to clear her mind, aka go check on Bracken to make sure nothing in her nightmare had come true.
Once Kendra got to Bracken’s room, she went in without knocking so that she didn’t wake him up. Now sure that he was safe, Kendra turned around to leave, when she heard Bracken sit up in his hammock. “Kendra? Is something wrong?” he asked, with a tired choice. “Um no, no nothings wrong I just umm.” Hoping to possibly not sound like a creepy stalker she decided the truth was the best option. “I was just checking to make sure you were okay.” He looked confused and asked, “Why wouldn’t I be? It’s completely safe here now thanks to you”
“I know, it was silly I should get back to bed and so should you. I’ll see you in the morning.” Kendra was about to leave but Bracken stopped her “No, wait, let me walk you back.” He said getting out of his hammock. “Um okay, sure,” Kendra said walking out with him. “Are you sure you’re okay?” Bracken asked as Kendra took his hand in hers. “Yeah, I’m fine,” Kendra lied, badly, and he noticed.
It was a little bit before Kendra noticed they should be at her room by now, looking around she looked over the railing at the ocean and asked “You know we’re going the wrong way, right? My room is on the other side of the treehouse.” “Oh, I know that. I was wondering how long it would take you to notice.” Bracken said leading her over to lean on the railing. “Seriously Kendra what’s wrong? Is it about Seth?” He asked looking at her with concern. “No, yes? I don’t know. I just had a bad dream that’s all,” Kendra said brushing it off about to walk away when Bracken gently grabbed her arm and asked, “Do you want to talk about it?” “I don’t know, maybe?” Kendra said not really looking at him. “You could show me,” He said offering her his hand so that he could look into her mind. Kendra thought about it and decided maybe it would help to not just keep it inside. “Okay, you can look at my nightmare,” she said taking his hand.
It was a little while before Bracken let go of her hand, but when he did there were tears in his eyes as he pulled her into a hug. “Oh, Kendra…” He said as she started crying her to. “You know something like that would never happen, right? If Ronodin ever corrupted any of my horns, that wouldn’t happen.” Bracken said. “Yeah, I...I know but nightmares aren’t realistic all the time.” Kendra sniffed out
After that, they didn’t really say anything. They just stood there. For how long Kendra didn’t know. All she knew was that he was back with her again, safe, and not going anywhere, and everything felt alright because of it.
The End~
