My favorite underrated fantasy series is Fablehaven, and part of why its my favorite is that the two main characters are living two totally different sub-genres of Fantasy despite being siblings and part of the same story. Like Kendra is getting kissed by fairies, and going on picnic dates by the naiad pond with her unicorn boyfriend, and casually getting invites to have tea with the fairy queen. Meanwhile Seth is running for his life from some army or another because once again he accidentally made yet another deal with some evil or morally grey entity who wants at least his servitude if not his soul.

fablehaven book 1: omg fairies are real!!! and our grandma turned into a chicken!!!

the rest of the series: man gets melted by acid in front of a young girl. a 12 year old boy witnesses his sister commit suicide. girl gets betrayed by her crush and has to watch him kill all of her friends. people get betrayed again and again and again. boy accidentaly kills a family friend because he wanted to help someone. girl gets kidnapped multiple times and her entire family thinks she's dead. a married couple reunites thanks to timetravel, but then she sacrifices herself and he has to go back to his time and live with her knowing how she'll die. children are used as tools to fight monsters.

my favorite thing about underrated books and small fandoms is that i cant make a post saying “has this already been done” cuz ive seen all the content related to it and im making the post knowing full well it hasnt, in fact, already been done >:)

Y'know. Middle grade fantasy is great. Middle grade fantasy knows what the people want. I want to read more middle grade fantasy. Just like when I was a kid
