Using Facebook to Optimize Your Blog’s Content
At some point in your life you might have wondered if Facebook has become nothing but a tool to procrastinate socially. Though this is not far from the truth, there’s one thing I find really interesting and useful about Zuckerland.
I have so many friends contacts on this particular social network that I started to become almost too careful with what I post in there. My grandmother, along with my former creative directors, teachers and coworkers are there. Most of these contacts are people who I do care about but with whom I don’t feel I should share everything that’s going on with my personal life. The internet gives you so many options when it comes to self-expression (e.g. Tumblr) that I don’t think it’s necessarily bad that you might have to have a “semi-public” life on Facebook and go elsewhere to ramble about personal matters.
I love talking to people and above all I love to know what people care about and find interesting. The fact that I have so many contacts from so many different countries, backgrounds and cultures is perfect for this purpose. In a matter of hours I can find out what my mini global audience finds interesting/funny and what it doesn’t. So I started to use this “feature” to determine what I should post on my blogs and what I shouldn’t. Since I speak two languages fluently, I can even choose what audience I want to reach with my Facebook publications.
If people start liking and interacting with the content I know that I might have a winner. If people simply ignore it I know that maybe the content is not as relevant as I thought it was. So I don’t publish it anywhere else.
I hope you found this tip useful. Try it yourself, you’ll be surprised!
But please don’t tell my contacts that I’ve been using them as lab mice.
